Have you ever wondered if you belonged somewhere? Or have you ever quietly decided that someone else didn't?In this Bible study and reflection, we explore a remarkable story from Eugene Peterson's The Pastor about Truck Carson, a truck driver whose life was transformed after reading a Gideon Bible he found in a motel room. As Truck shared his testimony, an entire congregation learned an important lesson about grace, belonging, and the power of God's Word.Using Proverbs, Isaiah 55:11, Galatians 3:28, James 2:1-9, and John 10:27, we examine the contrast between the voice of Wisdom and the voice of Folly. One voice judges by appearances; the other sees people through the eyes of God. Ultimately, this episode points us to the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who calls His sheep by name and welcomes them into His family.Join us as we discover why Christian community is not built on social status, education, wealth, or background—but on the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The Fear of God stands as a foundational virtue in Christian ethics, appearing throughout Scripture as the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. Dave Rich examines this essential attribute in lesson 10 of his Christian ethics series, demonstrating how The Fear of God shapes believers' lives through faith, obedience, and trust. This biblical virtue appears in over 300 verses commanding believers to fear God while rejecting the fear of man or circumstances. The Fear of God leads to life, produces humility, and turns believers away from evil. Rich explores the profound connection between this virtue and anxiety, showing that worry reveals misplaced fear and denigrates God's providence. Therefore, believers must cultivate The Fear of God as the soul of wisdom, casting all anxiety on him who cares for them. This teaching illuminates how proper fear of God eliminates improper fear of everything else, grounding Christian living in eternal perspective rather than temporal concerns.Download Notes | Download Presentation ★ Support this podcast ★
Proverbs is about how, having put our faith in Jesus, we should live that faith in the day to day life. It is truly Wisdom for Life expressed in short, pithy statements that offer advice or an observation of the world. Therefore, Proverbs are not promises, but guidance. In understanding the Proverbs we want to carefully understand the meaning and implication behind each one. As we study the Proverbs topically, a picture of God, ourselves, and our relationship with God will emerge.

Colonel Jeff Williams draws from Job 28 and other Scripture to consider the fear of the Lord as the beginning of true wisdom. Emphasizing that human achievement cannot attain divine understanding, he underscores how wisdom is granted only by God's grace. The fear of the Lord is presented not only as the start of knowledge but also as a guiding light for all of life's vocations and decisions.Q1: Did you get a chance to witness to the Russians or others during your space flights?Q2: Did going to space change your relationship with God or affect your faith?Q3: (From the back of the room, summarized as a general question about applying wisdom in a fallen world, possibly in government or vocational settings.) Pastor Chad came with a great message last night preaching on Proverbs 23 about alcohol — not just the bottle, but the battle behind it. 5 Warnings We Can't Ignore: 1. It can cause problems – What are you lingering around? 2. It looks good… at first – It may sparkle, but it bites. 3. It poisons – Some of us know the sting too well. 4. It impairs – Convictions get blurry when you're not sober. 5. It consumes – “You don't know what you're willing to risk for the bottle.” Drunkenness is the sin, not the sip — but wisdom is knowing where the line is.
