Olympic athlete in fencing

Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus is the CEO of her career, and she's fully in control. Ranked the number-one fencer in France and third in the world, Thibus has won 14 French championships and seven world championships—and this year, she's off to her third Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. YTTP first planned to work with Thibus as part of our Beautiful People series alongside her partner and fellow Olympic fencer, Team USA's Race Imboden, but travel restrictions kept her grounded in Paris—almost 4,000 miles from the shoot in New York. Ahead of the Olympics, she chats with To The People host Alyssa Shapiro about taking control of her career, building a platform for women in sports to share their stories, and what female athletes really need. To The People Podcast is a production of YTTP Studios. Find us online at @youthtothepeople or youthtothepeople.com.
“Yeah, it would be a bummer if there’s no Olympic Games because I feel like it would be a very political Games. But at the same time, I’m in fencing. I know that people forget the day after the Games are done that I go back to being a regular person. A million people could kneel at the Games and I don’t think you’d see a million people do it. You’re going to see a few special ones. That special one is important. But the idea that people felt comfortable to do that is so powerful for all the communities and all people. For people to be able to come and say what they want to say without worrying about the repercussions of losing monetary value or their families being hurt or being kicked out of the things that they want to do. That’s important. That’s the one thing I hope maintains and stays after all these movements.” Race Imboden is a bronze medalist from the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in fencing. So you're probably wondering what's a fencer doing on a running podcast? In addition to his success in sport, Race made headlines as one of the top American athletes who has made a political statement and demonstration at a global championship. At the 2019 Pan American Games, he won a gold medal and took a knee during the national anthem. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee placed him on a 12-month probation as a result of his actions. Imboden accepted the sanction but has never been silenced in his message against racism, gun violence, racial inequality and police brutality. Through his work with Everytown, an anti-gun violence organization, he's looking to educate people and see change across the country. You'll hear why this means so much to him in our conversation but also he will be a featured speaker at the next Running to Protest event in New York City. Mark your calendars for Sunday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. at Washington Square Park. Follow @runningtoprotest for more information. Follow Race Imboden on Instagram: @race_imboden This is Runners of NYC. A biweekly podcast from CITIUS MAG. Hosts Leigh Anne Sharek and Chris Chavez look to bring you many of the untold stories behind luminaries and legends that make up New York City’s running culture. U.S. fencer Race Imboden says the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics could be the scene of a wave of protests by athletes on an unprecedented level. Imboden talks to ATR Editor Ed Hula about efforts by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee to open the door to athlete expression at the Games.
Race is a two-time Olympian foil fencer and Olympic bronze medalist. Race Imboden made his international competition debut at the age of 16, winning a bronze medal at the 2010 World Fencing Championships. Since then, he's won over 50 medals across team and individual competitions, including bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Race was the First American Male to win the Fencing FIE World Cup and led Team USA to a historic first-ever World Championship Title in 2019. In this conversation, Race and Michael discuss being the dude and how that lends to being your own roadblock, honing your craft, searching for knowledge but not always direction, trusting your gut, and how important it is to find the ability to celebrate the moments leading up to the wins in life, rather than only focusing on the wins themselves. I'm so honored to have had the opportunity to have this conversation with a World Champion and hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did. “We are fencers - we are trained to deal with change and adapt at a moments notice ” An opportunity, that is how our latest guest views the current situation. Dan Kellner talks us through his inspiring story as a fencer. Today's episode, I cover a few tips on how to get up out of bed, putting your best foot forward if you're not a morning person. I reveal some tricks such as putting your alarm clock on the opposite side of the room, sleeping with the blinds open, and instilling morning affirmations to help you feel positive and confident. How you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day!

Sean and Gav go to Paris for the Challenge International de Paris and spend all weekend working. While in Paris we met up with the lovely Arianna Scarnecchia of PianetaScherma who have kindly allowed us to share an interview with Race Imboden. While we are in Paris, elsewhere in Europe Heidenheim men's epee was in full swing. It’s a stupidly big competition and sees the first run out of the new non-combativity “Unwillingnes to Fence” rules. Katowice women's foil sees a mixture of the familiar and the new.Note: You’ll hear some heavy breathing in the background. You’re not hearing an asthmatic pug, Gav picked up a cold while he was in France!Links:Our lovely sponsors - https://www.leonpaul.com/Become a better person, become a Patreon supporter: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=4988869Thanks to Arianna Scarnecchia and PianetaScherma for theRace Imboden interview: http://pianetascherma.com/Paris men’s foil individual (with commentary provided by us.Unfortunately the audio quality is terrible): https://youtu.be/XkOmuvDvSBgHeidenheim men’s epee individual finals: https://youtu.be/Nrc4EzUvAp4Katowice women’s foil individual playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_pQQho0KExzavF_D0er_ReGbiU8zbCI5
