When most people think about divorce, they picture the legal process. They imagine paperwork, lawyers, and courtrooms. But the reality is that divorce often begins long before any legal step is taken. In this episode, Susan Guthrie sits down with Erin Levine, founder of Hello Divorce, to talk about the stage of divorce that almost no one talks about: the years of uncertainty before a decision is ever made. For many people, the hardest part of divorce is not the legal process itself. It is the emotional limbo that happens beforehand. The sleepless nights. The constant questioning. The fear about what life might look like on the other side. Susan and Erin explore why so many people spend years wrestling with the decision to leave a marriage, what happens emotionally during that time, and how having the right information and support can dramatically change the experience. If you are currently wondering whether to stay or go, this episode will help you understand that what you are feeling is incredibly common and that there are ways to move forward with more clarity and less fear. What You Will Learn • Why many people contemplate divorce for three to five years before taking action • Why the emotional uncertainty before divorce can be the most exhausting stage • How lack of information often keeps people stuck in limbo • Why most divorces do not need to become courtroom battles • How mediation and other structured processes can help families move through divorce more constructively • Why preparation and clarity can dramatically change divorce outcomes Key Takeaways from This Conversation The Hidden Stage of Divorce Divorce often begins years before anyone files paperwork. Many people spend long periods quietly struggling with whether their marriage can be saved or whether it is time to move on. Living in Uncertainty Is Emotionally Draining The constant question of whether to stay or leave can take an enormous emotional toll. By the time someone actually moves forward with divorce, they may already feel mentally and emotionally exhausted. Information Creates Clarity Fear thrives in uncertainty. When people begin learning about their options and understanding the divorce process, they are able to make decisions from a place of knowledge rather than panic. Divorce Does Not Have to Be a War Many couples are able to resolve their divorce through mediation or negotiated agreements outside of court. Understanding these options can significantly reduce conflict and stress. Golden Nuggets from This Episode • Divorce itself is often not what breaks people. It is the years of uncertainty leading up to the decision. • Many people live in emotional limbo for years before they ever speak to a professional about divorce. • When people have access to information and structured support, they are far more likely to resolve their divorce outside of court. • Preparation and clarity allow people to approach divorce more thoughtfully and with less fear. • Divorce does not have to be a battle. With the right guidance, it can be a transition toward a healthier future. Change is no longer an occasional disruption, it's the constant backdrop of leadership today. And when change accelerates, leaders are often left holding the weight of uncertainty, pressure and unspoken anxiety across their teams. In this episode of Let's Talk, People, Emily Frieze-Kemeny sits down with Kiabi Carson, Head of Human Resources for North America at Turner & Townsend, a £1.4B global professional services company supporting large-scale construction and infrastructure programs across 60+ countries. Together, they explore why silence during uncertainty creates more fear, how to communicate honestly when you don't have all the answers, and what it really means to hold space for your team without amplifying anxiety.Kiabi shares lessons from leading through large-scale mergers, organizational transformation, and unexpected role shifts, offering practical guidance on staying grounded, protecting business-as-usual, and helping teams focus on what they can control when everything feels unsettled. Whether you're leading through a merger, restructuring, or rapid change with limited clarity, this episode offers grounded strategies to help you communicate with confidence, build trust through uncertainty, and lead with steadiness when your team needs it most.Timestamps: [00:15:13] Leading Up in Times of Pressure – Emily and Kiabi explore how leaders can navigate decisions that are already made by bringing empathy, positivity, and impact-focused feedback (rather than complaints) when senior leaders are under intense pressure.[00:21:01] Why Silence Creates Anxiety During Change – Emily and Kiabi unpack why going quiet when there's no new information actually fuels fear and speculation, and how leaders can create a consistent communication rhythm that builds trust by sharing what's known, what's unknown and when you'll share more.[00:28:14] Protecting Business-as-Usual While Navigating Transformation – Emily and Kiabi discuss the importance of keeping business-as-usual and transformation work in separate lanes, making space for change conversations while still grounding teams in what they can execute today.[00:30:53] Holding Space Without Carrying the Emotional Weight – The conversation dives into how leaders can acknowledge and normalize anxiety without amplifying it; by naming what's unsettling, listening deeply, reflecting back what they're hearing, and using personal support systems to process their own emotions so the team doesn't have to.Access the episode transcript.Join the Conversation: This year we're taking audience questions! Ferndale Pride isn't just a single day in May. It's a months-long celebration of joym community, and giving back that has its roots in a meeting at Soho 16 years ago. In this episode, I talk with Ferndale Pride executive director and longtime listener Julia Music about how the festival started, why it has always been free to attend, and how it has already given more than $500,000 to charity while centering downtown Ferndale businesses. Julia walks us through what to expect on May 30 in downtown Ferndale: three stages, Reading with Royalty, 220 vendors, nine food trucks, and a footprint stretching along 9 Mile from Woodward to Livernois. But before the big day, there's a full calendar of events designed to both build community and raise the funds needed to keep Pride accessible. You'll hear about the Small Packages cigar-box art auction at Detroit GT Studios, Soho Leather Weekend, Junk Jewels' allergy-friendly treats at Urbanrest, and the "Out of the Closet and Onto the Dance Floor" party that invites you to finally wear that wild outfit hiding in the back of your closet. We also dig into Hot Daddies, the Cougar Hunt (a true "coalition of cougars"), Pistons Pride Night, a psychic self-care evening at Boston Tea Room, and the always-popular Pokémon trivia night at B. The lead-up to Ghislaine Maxwell's trial was marked by years of delay, institutional reluctance, and a sudden scramble once Jeffrey Epstein was no longer alive to absorb the blame. After Epstein's death in federal custody in 2019, public pressure intensified over how a trafficking operation of that scale could exist without accomplices. Maxwell, long described by survivors as Epstein's right hand, recruiter, and enforcer, initially remained free, living quietly and largely untouched while outrage simmered. Federal authorities offered little reassurance that a meaningful investigation was underway, reinforcing the perception that Epstein had been treated as a convenient endpoint rather than the center of a network. When Maxwell was finally arrested in July 2020, nearly a year after Epstein's death, it felt less like proactive justice and more like a belated concession to public scrutiny. Prosecutors framed the case as overdue accountability, but critics noted that the government had years to act while Epstein was alive and chose not to.As the trial approached, the government's strategy became clearer and more controversial. Prosecutors narrowed the timeframe of the charges to the mid-1990s and early 2000s, limiting the scope of testimony and insulating many powerful figures from exposure. Pretrial battles focused on evidence access, witness credibility, and Maxwell's detention conditions, while survivors prepared to testify about recruitment, grooming, and abuse they said Maxwell directly facilitated. The defense attempted to recast Maxwell as a peripheral figure and leaned heavily on Epstein's 2008 non-prosecution agreement, despite its obvious moral and legal limitations. Meanwhile, the DOJ maintained a careful distance from broader questions about uncharged co-conspirators, reinforcing the impression that the trial was designed to close a chapter, not open new ones. By the time jury selection began, the case had come to symbolize not just Maxwell's alleged crimes, but the government's long-standing failure to confront Epstein's network honestly and in full view of the public.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.
On the UL podcast, we believe that leadership can happen with and without formal authority. Sometimes, the most challenging leadership role is leading up to a person who technically has more formal authority, but might be unintentionally causing some of the chaos you are trying to address. In this episode, we'll learn from two examples from different contexts but have very similar patterns for how to lead up to what we affectionately call "Chaos Monsters." In one case, Jesse shares his experience as a volunteer leader working within a non-profit civic organization with a charismatic executive director who is asking for increased operational structure ... and yet sometimes working in exact opposition. In the other case, Jesse will share his experience as an officer in the National Guard working in a matrixed command military structure to achieve particular mission readiness objectives ... and yet encounters higher ranking officers who sometimes contradict their own directives. Both examples sound totally different - one volunteer non profit, the other an officer in the military. And yet both illustrate similar patterns of how to lead up effectively. By day, Dr. Jesse Mix is a primary care and ER physician at the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center in Boise, ID. In the evenings, he volunteers across a few community/civic organizations (which shall remain nameless). And as a National Guardsman, Lt. Col Jesse Mix is the Flight Surgeon/Medical Officer to an elite Pararescue (PJ) squadron within the US Air Force. He is also the past President of the Leadership Boise program. I personally love talking to Jesse because he makes me feel less stressed about whatever else I have going on in my life! Key Takeaways: Recognizing when you are dealing with Chaos Monster(s) Scaling your responses from nudges to more direct intervention to higher level escalation Knowing when to hold em, and when to fold em! Additional Resources: By day, Dr. Jesse Mix is a primary care and ER physician with the Boise VA Medical Center. As a National Guardsman, Lt. What happens when a respected orthopaedic chair steps away from the big title to get back to the OR, residents, and real day-to-day impact? We sit down with Dr. Keith Kenter to unpack a rare leadership arc—building an academic culture in Kalamazoo, navigating post-COVID administrative sprawl, and ultimately returning to Missouri to reclaim core values: teaching, operating, and mentoring. It's a candid look at ego, identity, and the quiet power of influence without authority.Dr. Kenter shares how he elevated scholarly activity, promoted faculty, and designed a longitudinal musculoskeletal education program, then watched his role expand across multiple surgical services until the clinical work he loved slipped out of reach. Family, foresight, and timing opened a door at Mizzou, where strong culture and deep bench strength offered collaboration, patient-first focus, and the daily satisfaction of training the next generation. If the story resonates, follow the show, share with a colleague, and leave a review with your biggest “leading up” takeaway. To commemorate its anniversary on December 10th, we thought this would be a great time to reshare one of our most popular CLASSIC episodes, an interview we did with Taiwan Democracy fighter Dr. Linda Gail Arrigo, Ai Linda (艾琳達) in 2024 about events leading up to the HISTORIC Kaohsiung Incident. Related Links: https://talkingtaiwan.com/dr-linda-gail-arrigo-taiwan-democracy-fighter-talks-about-events-leading-up-to-the-kaohsiung-incident-classic-ep-336/ Last year when we were in Taiwan in January for the presidential election, we were privileged to meet Dr. Linda Gail Arrigo, Ai Linda (艾琳達) in Taipei and sat down for a one-on-one interview. Few have experienced such historic events first-hand in the way Linda has, as she speaks from the doorstep of history. Linda talked about the era and events that precipitated the Kaohsiung incident, also known as the Formosa Incident, which is widely considered the watershed moment in history that led to Taiwan's democratization. The Kaohsiung Incident happened in December of 1979 During this interview Linda talked about how, in 1975 she had been sent to observe a trial that had been stated to be an open trial but when she arrived there, she saw that it wasn't. In the face of intimidation by the Taiwan Garrison Command officers, she chose to speak up about the injustice she saw, and reported it to Amnesty International. To me, Linda's self-directed action was a moment of historic defiant courage. Thank you Linda Gail Arrigo, Ai Linda (艾琳達) for sharing your story and for advocating for the people of Taiwan. In late July of 2019, Epstein was found injured and semiconscious inside his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC), with marks around his neck. At the time, the jail and federal authorities reported that surveillance video showing the outside of his cell, during the incident, was missing. Prosecutors initially claimed the footage “no longer exists,” citing a clerical error or administrative mistake as the deletion reason. The disappearance of those camera files raised immediate red flags because standard procedure for such a high-profile inmate would have required preservation of all surveillance around the time of a suspected self-harm event. Instead the footage was lost, never formally produced, and the explanation offered was that it was deleted inadvertently — not as a scheduled or justified destruction. The fact that the video was not preserved, and no credible technical reason was publicly validated for its deletion, fed the swirl of suspicion and conspiracy around Epstein's treatment and eventual death. The failure to maintain that footage — or to provide an unbroken chain of custody or explanation for the loss — meant that one of the key pieces of physical evidence that might have explained what “really” happened during the first incident was simply unavailable. The missing video segment became a glaring hole in the official narrative, undermining procedural transparency and giving critics a tangible reason to doubt the government's account of what happened that night.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com
In the final weeks before his death, Jeffrey Epstein's state of mind was a chaotic blend of despair, denial, and defiance. Jail records show he was restless, sleepless, and visibly agitated — crouching in his cell with his hands over his ears to drown out noise, pacing aimlessly, and struggling to adjust from luxury to confinement. Guards noted his anxiety and mood swings, describing him as alternately withdrawn and frustrated. He reportedly called himself a “coward” and told staff he couldn't bear the isolation, yet insisted to psychologists that he wasn't suicidal, saying it would be “crazy” to kill himself and that he still had a “wonderful life.” The collapse of his empire — from private jets and palatial homes to a concrete cell — shattered the narcissistic image he'd built over decades. Psychologists later concluded that Epstein's entire sense of self was tied to control, power, and prestige — all of which had been stripped away, leaving him psychologically cornered and destabilized. However, his attorney David Schoen told a starkly different story. In a five-hour meeting just days before Epstein's death, Schoen said his client was “animated and energized,” focused on his legal defense, and adamant about fighting the charges in court. Epstein had reportedly asked Schoen to take over as lead counsel and appeared optimistic about his chances. That interaction led Schoen to firmly reject the idea of suicide, arguing that Epstein's mindset was far from hopeless. He cited forensic pathologist Michael Baden's findings that Epstein's neck fractures were “more consistent with homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging.” Between the prison records describing agitation and the lawyer's insistence on Epstein's resolve, the truth of Epstein's final state of mind remains contested — split between the image of a crumbling man at the edge of despair and that of a calculating manipulator who still believed he could talk his way out of hell.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com
6. The 9/11 Failure and the Cold War Mindset Liza Mundy Book: The Sisterhood: The Secret History of Women at the CIA Leading up to 9/11, the women of Alec Station had been repeatedly warning that al-Qaeda had the capability to attack the United States. On 9/11, the CIA learned of the attacks via CNN, confirming the women's "sick inevitability." While CIA Director George Tenet evacuated the headquarters due to the threat of a plane attack, the Counterterrorism Center staff remained at their posts, working 24/7 to prevent a second wave. The women faced a reckoning afterward, being blamed for failing to connect the dots, despite previous internal struggles to get their analysis published. Adding to the difficulty, the incoming Bush administration, composed largely of "Cold Warriors," struggled to recognize a stateless terror organization as a legitimate, existential threat, focusing instead on traditional state adversaries with armies and capitals. Furthermore, historical failures like the Waco incident made the Clinton administration hesitant to approve operations against bin Laden due to fears of collateral damage.
Javier Milei's Dilemma: Midterms, the Wobbling Peso, and the Push for Dollarization Mary Anastasia O'Grady analyzed Argentinian President Javier Milei's economic and political dilemma as he faces midterms with a wobbling peso leading up to the October 26th elections. The peso is suffering due to fears that the opposition Peronist coalition will block Milei's reforms. O'Grady advocated for dollarization as the solution to stabilize the currency, reduce interest rates, and impose fiscal discipline on reckless spending. Powerful financial special interests prefer the status quo of an unanchored peso. ARGENTINA

Brands (Author) This source focuses on Charles Lindbergh's perspective on Germany and his strong critiques of Great Britain's foreign policy leading up to the war during the critical years of 1939, 1940, and 1941. 1927 LINDBERGH Context and Key Figures: The conflict detailed in the book covers the critical years 1939, 1940, and 1941, culminating in the Japanese attack. Lindbergh was the "hero of the age," while Franklin D. Roosevelt, running for a third term, was a "genius at political success." Lindbergh's Perspective on Germany: Lindbergh held a "stubborn admiration for German culture," believing "the Germans knew how to do things right." He was "puzzled and dismayed" by the political changes in Germany, including the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. He did not know what to make of the "strange and alarming turn" German politics had taken, or the "apparent obvious embrace by the German people" of these new movements. Lindbergh's Critique of Britain: Lindbergh was "very discouraged" about Britain's approach to world affairs, believing Britain's "day was behind it" and its "great time was behind it." He felt Britain had allowed itself to fall into "complacency and apathy." He criticized Britain and France for establishing an "unrealistic postwar regime" at the Paris Peace Conferenceof 1919. They imposed unrealistic restrictions on Germany but then "refused to enforce them afterward." He suspected the British were attempting to "continue to cruise on the momentum" of their 19th-century empire. Lindbergh was puzzled by British policy, specifically that they made demands on Germany ("You must do this") while making promises (to Czechoslovakia and then Poland) that they could not fulfill. He was afraid that Hitler would "call their bluff" and Europe would be at war. Lindbergh strongly suspected that if war broke out, the British would look to the United States to "bail them out," repeating the pattern of World War I.
