Regina tried "almost every other sport" growing up, and then she found rowing at age 13. "It felt like home" she shares. Besides the feeling she loved of "pushing off the oar" and gliding through the water, Regina "saw other women who looked like [her]." A World Silver Medalist in the Women's Eight and 2x Olympian who just missed a medal in Tokyo (4th place), Regina and team are chasing the podium in Paris. Her personal motto is that she's "vicious on the water but super kind out of the boat." In our conversation Regina opens up about battling societal norms around height for women and girls. In 6th-7th grade, Regina jumped 10 inches, so her legs were always bright red and covered in stretch marks. She was repetitively teased for being the "big girl" and though she would respond with a tough exterior, the words seeped in. Throughout the ups and downs, Regina turned to her close friends and poetry for processing. At the University of Pennsylvania, Regina was the editor in chief of the feminist literary and arts magazine "The F-word" and chaired the poetry workshop group "The Body Electric" named after Walt Whitman's poem. As Regina mentions, having these creative outlets helped her not sizzle out on the water. Today she wants young girls to know "how you feel in your body is infinitely more important than any beauty ideal." ----- Thank you to We Row Like This for introducing us to Regina at the Head of the Charles. Episodes drop every Wednesday at 5am Eastern Standard Time through the Paralympics and also every Monday through the Olympics. ---- Flame Bearers is the world's first media and production company specifically illuminating the unsung stories of resilient women Olympians & Paralympians. "To go out on top — there are so few athletes that can say that, and that really wasn't my plan! I just wanted to know when it would be over so that I could put everything that I had into each throw." Kara Winger had long planned for 2022 to be her final javelin season. And what a final season it was! The four-time Olympian capped off her 18-year international career by winning her first global medal (silver, at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, OR), and becoming the first U.S. woman to medal in the javelin at a world championships event. She set a new American record. She took the win at the Wanda Diamond League final. And, after 12 years, she finally broke her own personal record. In this conversation, Kara reflects on her career and on what it means to go out on top. She talks about the support she has felt in the track and field community, and about when she made the decision to retire. She talks about being chosen to be the Team USA flag bearer at last summer's Tokyo Olympic Games, and talks about the struggles she's faced with injuries (two ACL tears and a labrum tear in her left shoulder) and setbacks. For this weeks episode, we welcomed on GB triathlete Chloe Cook. Chloe has represented Great Britain at an incredibly high level, that includes the World Under 23 Championships. She spoke about being born straight into a triathlon environment with her dad, Glenn Cook, being 1989 World Silver Medalist, and her mum, Sarah Coope, being 1991 Ironman Hawaii World Championships Bronze Medalist. However, with this and a lot of success at a young age, came a lot of pressures, which ultimately led her to actually step away from the sport. She then reignited this passion for triathlon whilst at University, quickly regained fitness and pulled off some very impressive results. Her continued journey from there, however, has not been without its setbacks of injuries and she gave us a reflection on the challenges that come with this from a mental perspective and how you have to adapt to overcome these moments.

Episode 4 of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's LEGENDS podcast features 2016 Distinguished Member William "Bill" Harlow. Thought to be the best wrestler ever to come from Tennessee and one of the greatest big men to wrestle at Oklahoma State University, William B. Harlow was a state champion, a three-time NCAA finalist and a three-time national freestyle champion. When he arrived at Oklahoma State, however, he felt as though he had a lot of catching up to do technically and spent his years in Stillwater as a “human sponge” absorbing everything he could learn. With Distinguished Members Yojiro Uetake, Bobby Douglas, and Gene Davis as teammates during his collegiate career, learning opportunities were scattered throughout the wrestling room. He quickly gained a reputation as a slick and smooth wrestler, using technique rarely seen in a man of his size. Harlow finished second in his first trip to the NCAA finals as a sophomore in 1964. As a junior, he won the Big Eight Conference title, but again finished as runner-up in the national tournament. Finally, as a senior, he moved up to 191 pounds and compiled a 21-0-1 record and won both the Big Eight and NCAA championships. With Uetake and Davis, he led OSU to the national team title, the second of his tenure as a Cowboy. Overall, he finished his collegiate career with a record of 54-5-2. Harlow began his wrestling career as an eighth grader, competing for the high school team at St. Andrews School in Sewanee, Tenn. Over five years, he lost only one match and, as a senior in 1962, won the national prep championship, the state championship and his fifth Mid-South championship, earning Outstanding Wrestler honors at all three tournaments. After leaving Oklahoma State, he concentrated on freestyle, winning three national titles, including being named Outstanding Wrestler in 1974. He represented the USA at the 1970 World Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and won a silver medal, As he continued to train and compete, he began a high school coaching career that would last for almost 50 years, beginning in Illinois. He returned to Oklahoma, coaching at Broken Arrow High School for 16 years while teaching and working as an administrator. He was principal and wrestling coach for three years at Kellyville, Okla., High School before serving eight years in Alaska as an administrator and wrestling coach. He returned to Oklahoma to teach and coach at Sapulpa High School until his retirement in 2013. Harlow received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award from the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2010, he was presented The Gallagher Award, given annually to an OSU wrestling alumnus who exemplifies the spirit and leadership eminent in the tradition of champions. In recognition of his achievements as both a wrestler and a coach, William B. Harlow is honored as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
