The Dean's List with Host Dean Bowen – The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee updates its policy to align with President Trump's executive order, ensuring only biological women compete in women's events. As national governing bodies receive guidance to implement these changes, this decision aims to restore fairness and safety for female athletes and reflects a broader shift toward common sense in Olympic sports...
It's Monday, July 28th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Seven Evangelicals in Columbia killed by armed group Seven bodies of Evangelical Christians, and a relative to one of the victims, were found on July 1st in a mass, shallow grave in Guaviare, Colombia, reports International Christian Concern. In April, the Frente Armando Ríos, an illegal armed group that has been known to restrict freedom of religion, summoned the eight victims to interrogate them about a rival armed group. The eight people were reported missing shortly after the interrogation. It was especially tragic because the victims were members of the Evangelical Alliance of Colombia and the Foursquare Gospel Church who were providing humanitarian aid in the area. Trump's massive trade deal with European Union Ahead of the August 1st deadline for the European Union to agree to a trade deal with the United States, President Donald Trump hammered out a major trade deal with the European Union, comprised of 27 countries, that he announced Sunday afternoon in Edinburgh, Scotland, reports RedState.com. Before the meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump pledged to change what he characterized as “a very one-sided transaction, very unfair to the United States.” TRUMP: “We've reached a deal. It's a giant deal with lots of countries. The European Union is going to agree to purchase from the United States $750 billion worth of energy. They are going to agree to invest into the United States $600 billion more than they're investing already. So, they're investing a large amount of money, but they're going to invest an additional $600 billion. “They're agreeing to open up their countries to trade at zero tariff. So, that's a very big factor. And they're agreeing to purchase a vast amount of military equipment. We are agreeing that the tariff straight across for automobiles will be a straight-across tariff of 15%. “I think it's the biggest deal ever made. Thank you very much.” The zero tariff was applicable to all aircraft and component parts, certain chemicals, certain generic drugs, semiconductor equipment, some agricultural products, natural resources and critical raw materials. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed that it was an impressive deal which was tough to negotiate, noted the Associated Press. VON DER LEYEN: “We have a trade deal between the two largest economies in the world. And it's a big deal. It's a huge deal. It will bring stability. It will bring predictability. That's very important for our businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. “The investments Mr. President just described -- that are going to go to the United States, and the purchases over there. “The European market is open. It's 450 million people. So, it's a good deal. It's a huge deal.” TRUMP: “Yeah.” VON DER LEYEN: “with tough negotiations. I knew it at the beginning, and it was indeed very tough, but we came to good conclusions with both sides. TRUMP: “We did.” VON DER LEYEN: “So again, congratulations and many thanks!” Trump didn't give a specific amount that the EU countries would spend on military equipment, saying that there wasn't a firm number in the deal, but that it would be "hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of military equipment." The agreement for the European Union to purchase $750 billion worth of energy from the United States changes the state of political affairs globally since it makes European Union countries less dependent on Russia for energy, and takes lots of money out of the pockets of Vladimir Putin and Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs. Von Der Leyen said the deal was necessary to "rebalance" trade between the European Union and the United States. Trans-identified male athletes have stolen 1,941 gold medals Trans-identified male athletes have stolen over 1,900 gold medals from women and girls, according to a recent report released by Concerned Women for America, reports The Christian Post. The conservative advocacy group's report, released earlier this month, compiled data of recorded instances dating back to the 1980s of men competing in female-only events. In addition to the 1,941 gold medals won by male athletes in women-only competitions, they also claimed nearly $500,000 in prize money by competing in women's sports. In California alone, over 521 women and girls were forced to settle for silver medals after being defeated by male athletes. According to the CWA report, men identifying as women have competed in more than 10,067 female sport events, both amateur and professional. The report also listed the national governing bodies that presided over competitions where men defeated female athletes, including the National Collegiate Athletic Association, multiple categories within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and several state intercollegiate athletic associations. Penny Nance, president of Concerned Women for America, said, “For too long, trans-identifying males have displaced, disrupted, and injured women and girls in female sports categories. “Our research reveals the shocking truth of the matter — over 1,900 women have come in second place to men who claim to be women. This is outrageously unjust. Women and girls must have sex-protected athletics under Title IX.” In Matthew 19:4, Jesus asked, ““Haven't you read that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female.'?” Michigan madman stabbed 11 Walmart shoppers On Saturday afternoon, 11 people were stabbed in a Michigan Walmart before the madman was detained by a few Marines and bystanders, reports One America News. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Bradford James Gille, is expected to face terrorism and assault charges. Gille allegedly entered the Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, at around 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, and attacked shoppers and one employee with a “folding knife” at around 4:45 p.m. in the checkout area of the store. Law enforcement responded within three minutes of an emergency 911 call, while a group of bystanders detained Gille in the parking lot. Specifically, 39-year-old Matt Kolakowski, a former U.S. Marine, had stopped at the Walmart for weekend supplies while on a family vacation when the stabbing occurred. He thought to himself, “Well, I don't got no weapon, so what am I going to do?' So, I just grabbed an empty grocery cart and just took off after him as hard as I could.” The suspect, who was overheard describing people in Walmart as evil, stabbed a man and an elderly woman while fleeing from the store. Kolakowski was eventually able to ram the suspect with the shopping cart. A pursuit ensued into the parking lot. Another Marine, Derrick Perry, who had just come from the firing range, still had his gun on his hip. When he pulled it on the stabber, the suspect dropped the knife. Planned Parenthood closes 5 California abortion mills And finally, the Planned Parenthood abortion business is closing more centers – with another 5 closing in northern California thanks to the defunding bill President Trump signed that took $300 million in taxpayer money away from the abortion giant, reports Life News. The “One Big Beautiful Bill,” signed by President Donald Trump earlier this month, prohibits Medicaid reimbursements for nonprofit health clinics that kill babies and receive more than $800,000 in federal funding annually, effectively cutting off federal support for California's 114 Planned Parenthood abortion mills. Ephesians 5:11 says, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” Or in this case defund them. Brett kicks off the program by talking about Tulsi Gabbard’s explosive claims regarding intelligence community misconduct and a sudden, early congressional recess announced by Speaker Mike Johnson. In this compelling episode of Mindset Matters, Patrick and Steffany explore a powerful concept: the Region Beta Paradox—a psychological phenomenon that explains why we often stay stuck in mediocre situations simply because they're “not that bad.” Whether it's an unfulfilling job, a stagnant relationship, or a comfort zone that's become a cage, the paradox reveals how moderate discomfort can be more dangerous than real adversity—because it fails to trigger change. Patrick shares personal stories, including his own “entrepreneurial accident” in the 1980s, which forced him out of complacency and into a path of purpose and growth. Steffany reflects on receiving the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee's Coach of the Year award and the grounding realization that even recognition doesn't remove life's everyday responsibilities. Together, they unpack how comfort can quietly stall ambition, and why doing the hard part first often leads to greater clarity, resilience, and results. The conversation dives deep into themes of self-responsibility, delayed gratification (with a nod to the famous “Marshmallow Test”), and the neuroscience of getting uncomfortable. They explain how growth requires challenge, not ease—and how embracing discomfort rewires the brain and strengthens personal integrity. Whether you're navigating life, career, or a mindset shift, this episode is a wake-up call to examine where you might be settling for “okay” instead of pushing for extraordinary. This is the essence of the MindShui Way—decluttering the mind, increasing self-awareness, and choosing a life of purpose over comfort.
In this insightful and down-to-earth episode of Mindset Matters, Patrick and Steffany dive deep into the concept of grounding—what it truly means, why it's essential, and how to consciously apply it in everyday situations. Whether you're stepping onto a stage, heading into a difficult conversation, or simply feeling emotionally overwhelmed, grounding can be the missing link to clarity, confidence, and calm. Patrick opens by reflecting on the electrical principle of grounding as a metaphor for emotional and energetic stability. Just like a home needs a ground wire to safely direct energy, we too need grounding to manage stress and stay centered under pressure. Together, they explore the physical and emotional benefits of grounding—such as improved sleep, reduced inflammation, and enhanced resilience—and even share personal anecdotes, including Steffany's unforgettable brush with lightning during a camping trip, where rubber boots may have saved her life. The duo also touch on self-worth, imposter syndrome, and how deeply-rooted limiting beliefs like “I'm not worthy” can hold us back. Steffany shares her recent experience winning a prestigious award from the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee and how old beliefs tried to convince her she didn't deserve it. The conversation becomes a candid exploration of how we react to judgment—whether from others or from ourselves—and how getting grounded can help us respond with intention instead. By the end of the episode, listeners are left with a compelling reminder: grounding is not just a tool for managing energy—it's a gateway to emotional freedom, personal alignment, and empowered action.

In the latest episode of the "Mindset Matters" podcast, hosts Patrick Francey and Steffany-Hanlen Francey dive into an emotionally charged conversation reflecting on Steffany's recent return from Paris, where she attended the Summer Olympics. Although her athletes didn't compete, Steffany shares a remarkable story of how she came home with a significant recognition. Steffany reveals that she received a medal, not from a current event, but from the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The medal, awarded by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, honors coaches who have significantly impacted athletes who went on to win medals. Steffany's athletes won silver and bronze medals in the team event, but due to a doping scandal, their medals were only recently awarded, delaying the moment of recognition. This episode is a journey into the emotional complexity of celebrating success. Steffany discusses why she kept the medal tucked away for two and a half years, feeling it was incomplete until her athletes received their medals. She draws parallels between her experience and the broader theme of waiting for the right moment to celebrate, emphasizing the importance of completion in any journey. Patrick and Steffany also touch on the dynamics of their relationship, exploring how they support each other's individual pursuits while maintaining a strong partnership. Patrick explains why he doesn't travel with Steffany during her work trips, underscoring the importance of respecting each other's professional lanes and roles. The episode is a compelling reflection on the value of patience, the power of delayed gratification, and the deep satisfaction that comes from seeing a long journey through to its rightful end. It's a must-listen for anyone interested in the mindset required to navigate the highs and lows of a career dedicated to supporting others.

Episode Notes Meta AI recently released the newest version of its generative AI model, which it says outperforms that of OpenAI in nearly every metric. Travel Technology Reporter Justin Dawes tested how it works for trip planning. Dawes notes the Meta AI's chatbot gave a list of suggested activities in the Vancouver area focused around hiking and cultural experiences — but not in the form of a traditional activity. The suggestions were grouped according to the type of activity, along with a suggestion for which day to complete each of them. Dawes added the chatbot provided useful suggestions for Vancouver-area restaurants. However, he reports two of the recommended restaurants are permanently closed. In addition, the chatbot didn't provide links to any of the restaurant websites. Next, several prominent airlines are using the Paris Olympics to build brand recognition. Airlines Reporter Gordon Smith takes a look at carriers that have entered into Olympic-related partnerships. Delta Air Lines recently signed an eight-year partnership with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which covers the 2028 games in Los Angeles. Delta is managing travel for all athletes as part of the deal. In addition, Air Canada and Australia's flag carrier Qantas have unveiled special designs on their aircraft to mark sponsorship deals of their country's Olympic teams. Smith notes even low-cost carriers are using the Paris Olympics to market themselves. Budapest-based Wizz Air painted one of its planes gold to symbolize its deal as Team Hungary's official airline. Finally, regulators in the United Arab Emirates published its gaming regulations over the weekend. Middle East Reporter Josh Corder explains why the country's casino industry may be more local than expected. To receive a gaming license, Corder notes operators must have a “qualifying domestic entity” in the country or have a relationship with one. That entity must have a substantial financial and operational history in the United Arab Emirates. Corder cites Wynn and MGM are two companies with local partners. Analysts at real estate firm CBRE said Emirati casinos could generate as much as $8.5 billion in revenue, assuming Wynn is one of the companies to open casinos across the United Arab Emirates. On this episode of Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast, Dan Lust (@SportsLawLust) and Mike Kravchenko (Find him on YouTube) are joined by Bobby Hartwick (@BobbyHartwick) to bring you the latest updates in sports law as we find ourselves with yet another a jam-packed week across the board. The trio dives into the NBA-TNT matching rights drama. Warner Bros., the parent company of TNT, recently exercised its matching rights on one of the deals proposed for the NBA's broadcasting rights. This move has sparked a debate about whether TNT can truly match the streaming services like Amazon Prime. Dan explains the potential legal and contractual hurdles, including the possibility of arbitration, and the implications for the NBA's broadcasting landscape. Next, they cover the new lawsuit filed by the Olympic and Paralympic Committee against PRIME, the energy drink owned by Logan Paul and KSI. The lawsuit claims PRIME infringed on the committee's trademarks by using phrases and symbols associated with the Olympics, such as "three-time Olympic gold medalist" and "repping Team USA." The trio discusses the legal intricacies of trademark enforcement and the potential repercussions for Prime. Odell Beckham Jr.'s recent legal battle with Nike also gets attention. Despite Beckham's celebratory social media post claiming victory, Nike's statement asserts that all of Beckham's claims were decided against him without any monetary award. This confusing narrative underscores the importance of clear legal communications and the broader implications for athlete endorsement deals. The conversation then shifts to a humorous yet important trademark dispute between Lamar Jackson and Troy Aikman over the word "eight." Jackson blocked Aikman's attempt to trademark "eight," claiming potential consumer confusion with his own trademarks like "Era 8" and "You 8 Yet." The group discusses the complexities of trademark law in sports and the likelihood of a coexistence agreement. Bobby shares his insights into the Johnson vs. NCAA case as Trey Johnson, a former Villanova football player, along with other student-athletes, filed a class action lawsuit against the NCAA and several universities, arguing they should be classified as employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that student-athletes could potentially qualify as employees, which could have major financial and compliance implications for colleges. The case was remanded to the district court to apply the new economic realities test, setting a precedent for evaluating student-athletes' employment status. Mike shares his excitement for Netflix's upcoming "Untold" documentary series, which includes episodes on the Michigan sign-stealing scandal and other intriguing sports stories. Bobby recommends watching the Giants' "Hard Knocks" series for its in-depth look at front office operations and player evaluations, wrapping up a packed episode of sports law updates and insights. I have no sympathy for you. I've trained athletes that are wheelchair-bound. I've trained athletes without a leg. Do you think it's difficult for me to train you while you're in a boot? Absolutely not. We can adapt… anything. We can make it work.” 7:05 “I don't really care what you know about the Xs and Os. We can teach that. I think anybody — if you go to any great place, you can be taught, if you're willing, and that's one thing that I want to look for. I want to look for somebody that has a growth mindset. I want to look for somebody that is great at creating relationships and maintaining relationships.” 15:20 “It's hard to just pack up your life on a whim with all that uncertainty. We like to think we're pretty tough in this field and we can put up with a lot, but we're still human.” 19:15 “I think perspective is everything, and how do we keep perspective? In this episode of Work in Progress, I'm joined by Bijal Shah, Guild's new CEO, to discuss how big companies are helping their employees find their next career step inside or outside the company through education benefits. And, we look a new Guild partnership that's helping Olympians find their next career beyond sports. Shah is new to the job of CEO, assuming it full-time in April after 34-year-old CEO and co-founder Rachel Romer stepped down to focus on her continued recovery from a stroke she suffered last summer. The number of employer partners has grown over the years and now includes businesses like Chipotle, Discover, Hilton, and Target. With growth, Guild has had to deal with some of its own structural changes. In May, the company cut a quarter of its own workforce. "As Guild's business continues to grow, we must ensure that we deliver on our mission as efficiently and effectively as possible...we have decided to restructure our organization," Shah said in a statement. "While difficult, these changes will ensure that moving forward, we operate more efficiently, innovate faster, and continue to deliver strong outcomes for our stakeholders," she added. Guild's role with the partner companies is around creating education benefits, including training programs that will arm the workers with in-demand skills. Shah says this has proven beneficial for employers and employees alike. "We are solving a problem. These (employees) are craving learning opportunities. They want to get their associate's degrees or bachelor's degrees. They want to further educate themselves, and the alternative is taking on student debt. This is a way that they don't have to do that. "Our data shows across our broad employer population, those who go through Guild are two times less likely to leave their employers than those who do not. There's an immediate retention benefit. "We also see benefits in attracting talent. When people are thinking about employers of choice, one of the things that I think folks are thinking about is how is the employer going to invest in me as the employee in a way that outlives even working at that employer or the specific job I have right now," Shah adds. One of the sets of skills employers are looking for is "durable" or "soft" skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and risk assessment. We go into the "how" of teaching those skills in the conversation. We also take a look at the new partnership with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee that is providing education benefits to current and former Olympians. "Many of the athletes don't actually get those huge multimillion-dollar sponsorships, they're living paycheck to paycheck. They spend all their time investing in their athletic careers, and then one day their athletic career ends and they need to find their second act," Shah says. Find out the details of the education plan in the podcast. And you can listen to the podcast here, or download and listen wherever you get your podcasts. Emerging sports outside the big four of football, basketball, baseball, and hockey can face an uphill climb in gaining participants and a fan base. Leagues such as Fan Controlled Football and the World Surf League must get creative to find their niche among sports fans in a market saturated with options. However, when a sport catches on, it can grow rapidly. That's the case with pickleball, which entered 2023 enjoying a three-year stretch as America's fastest-growing sport. A 2022 survey by the Association of Pickleball Professionals estimates that there are 36.5 million pickleball players in the US, making it the third-most popular sport/activity in the country behind only biking and running and ahead of established stalwarts like basketball, baseball, and soccer.
