Tina Fontaine, a 15-year-old Indigenous girl, was reported missing in Winnipeg in July 2014 and found dead in the Red River on August 17. Her death highlighted systemic failures involving missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada. Raymond Cormier was charged with her murder but acquitted in 2018 due to lack of direct evidence. Her case remains unresolved, with questions about her final days unanswered.Ossuary 6 - Air Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Contact us at: weeknightmysteries@gmail.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/weeknightmysteriesTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@weeknightmysteries

Tina Michelle Fontaine was an Indigenous girl who had  a tough go right from the beginning. As she had run away before when 15-year-old Tina disappeared on August 9, 2014 the authorities did not treat it with much urgency at all. Tina’s family was worried sick and wanted more activity. It was not until it was too late that  the investigation began in earnest. Tina’s body was found wrapped in a duvet and floating in Winnipeg's Red River more than a week later. Her death and the subsequent acquittal of the only suspect in Tina’s slaying are cited by some as catalysts for the national inquiry that was called to look into the massive amount of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada. A jury found Raymond Cormier “not guilty” in the murder of fifteen year old Tina Fontaine on February 22, 2018. She weighed 72 pounds at the time of her murder - so tiny.  It made the brutal death seem even more gruesome because her stature was that of a young child.  Her murder would inspire the Federal Government of Canada to order an inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.  In the meantime, the hurt and disappointment over Tina Fontaines murder would have a long reach in devastating a chain of family and friends that leave you wondering where does the pain ever end.  In fact will it ever end? Tina Fontaine did call in to tell police that “Sebastian” or Raymond Cormier, did in fact steal a truck.  It set in stone the fact of where she was, and what time and date she was there. Her displeasure with Raymond was enough to motivate her to make that call, and it gives us just that little nagging certainty that there was in fact a reason for Cormier to hurt her.   Recommended Podcasts: M.A.U.L.  MYSTERIES AND URBAN LEGENDS Creepy urban legends and perplexing unsolved mysteries..I have listened to these wonderful Australians since the beginning, and for being such a lovely couple, they sure can creep you out.  I have mentioned this podcast in the past, but they are now a feature podcast on Himalaya so it’s really helpful if you head over to that app and give them a like and subscribe.
