In February 1994, a night out in Manchester ended in tragedy when 21-year-old Jason Comerford was fatally stabbed as he made his way home.Despite hundreds of witness interviews, a Crimewatch appeal and a major investigation, the case went cold - and Jason's family were left without answers for decades. It would take breakthroughs in forensic science, the dogged persistence of detectives and an extraordinary battle against the justice system itself before Jason's killer was finally unmasked. But by the time the truth came out, it was too late for those who had fought hardest to see justice done.Join my Patreon community at patreon.com/britishmurders for exclusive perks, including early access to ad-free episodes, bonus episodes and content, exciting giveaways, and welcome goodies!Follow me on social media:Facebook | British Murders with Stuart BluesInstagram | @britishmurdersTikTok | @britishmurdersJoin the private Facebook group:British Murders Podcast - Discussion GroupVisit my website:britishmurders.comIntro music:David John Brady - 'Throw Down the Gauntlet'davidjohnbrady.comDisclaimer:The case discussed in this podcast episode is real and represents the worst day in many people's lives. Today's episode is a bit of a Crimewatch special. Joe explains why he recently had to call the Police, David researches some tourist scams and pickpocketing techniques and they then both recount the times that they've been mugged, both in the UK and whilst away on holiday. So after all that, they decide it's time to lighten the mood with an ad hoc gameshow - and this one's all about remembering the details of stories they've previously told on the pod. Essex Police was the police force that first realised that a serial sexual attacker was on the loose following three attacks in the Southend area. But as the number of attacks in other locations continued to increase, the inquiry became nationwide and was managed by the Met. By the time they made an appeal on Crimewatch, at least 22 attacks by just one man had been reported - in addition to all the others of which the police were unaware. One man watching Crimewatch that evening from his home in Cornwall was certain that the culprit was his brother. He phoned Crimewatch, and this call led detectives to investigate across the south of England from Cornwall to Essex, and also to the bars of Torremolinos, on the trail of a DJ with a long history of sexual assaults.Find out more about the UK True Crime Podcast:https://uktruecrime.comSupport me at Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/UKTrueCrimeWatch my latest video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEmTUMAOUIM&t=44sSourcesThe Predator DJ - UK True Crime Hosted on Acast. Tina Fontaine, a 15-year-old Indigenous girl, was reported missing in Winnipeg in July 2014 and found dead in the Red River on August 17. Her death highlighted systemic failures involving missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada. Raymond Cormier was charged with her murder but acquitted in 2018 due to lack of direct evidence. Penny Bell, a 43-year-old English businesswoman and mother of two, was brutally murdered on 6 June 1991 in the car park of Gurnell Leisure Centre in Greenford, London. Stabbed over 50 times in a frenzied attack, Penny's murder remains unsolved. On the morning of her death, she left her home in her blue Jaguar XJS, informing workers renovating her kitchen that she was late for an appointment—an appointment never recorded. Witnesses later reported seeing her driving erratically with a passenger in her car, and one witness claimed she appeared to ask for help. The attack was personal, with no signs of robbery or sexual assault, and police believe Penny likely knew her killer. Suspicious elements include her withdrawal of £8,500 three days prior, wallpaper samples found in her car, and a mysterious man seen entering her vehicle. Despite questioning thousands, offering rewards, and pursuing leads—including her husband, an alleged lover, and even convicted killer Robert Napper—the case remains a mysteryOssuary 6 - Air Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Contact us at: weeknightmysteries@gmail.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/weeknightmysteriesTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@weeknightmysteries
As the climate crisis worsens and social inequality escalates, legislation to monitor the sustainability efforts of organisations abounds. But mandatory reporting is often undertaken by executives who don't socialise their data in a way that helps internal stakeholders feel their employer is taking proactive steps to improve its impact. In this episode, Jen, Dom and Cat chat with strategic communications consultant Debra Sobel to learn more about the vital role of internal communication in sustainability reporting. Takeaways Sustainability is shifting from aspiration to activation and transformation. Companies must provide evidence for their sustainability claims to avoid greenwashing. Internal communicators play a crucial role in translating sustainability strategies for employees. Effective communication about sustainability requires digestible and engaging storytelling. There is a need for consistency in language and alignment across leadership regarding sustainability. Organisations must integrate sustainability into their overall communication strategy. Data should be used to tell compelling stories about sustainability efforts. Internal communicators should connect sustainability initiatives with organisational goals. Leaders need tools and resources to effectively communicate sustainability strategies. The return to growth narrative may conflict with sustainability goals. The reappointment of Trump may galvanise grassroots activism. Younger generations feel they have little to lose, prompting activism. Internal stakeholders must be included in sustainability discussions. Sustainability should be integrated into business strategies, not treated separately. The circular economy is essential for sustainable growth. Internal communication must adapt to blurred organisational boundaries. Communicators need to balance storytelling with data in sustainability efforts. Sustainability communication requires cross-departmental collaboration. Internal communicators should engage with sustainability teams proactively. The future of internal communication hinges on sustainability integration. About Debra Sobel – Strategic Communications Consultant Debra is an experienced strategic communications strategist, with specialist knowledge in all things sustainability and purpose. Over 18 years in business she has partnered and consulted with national and multinational brands helping them navigate the purpose landscape, shape strategy and deliver clarity when it comes to stakeholder communications and embedding responsible business into culture. Shot dead in broad daylight outside her house in West London – the killing of Jill Dando is one of Britain's most high-profile murders. As one of the BBC's best-known TV presenters through the 90s, Jill was in the living rooms of the British public every night, presenting the news, travel shows, and most famously, Crimewatch – in which she publicly campaigned to bring real criminals to justice. Yet despite enormous publicity and one of the UK's most extensive police investigations to date, the identity of her killer is still mired in controversy.Exclusive bonus content:Wondery - Ad-free & ShortHandPatreon - Ad-free & Bonus EpisodesFollow us on social media:YouTubeTikTokInstagramXVisit our website:WebsiteSources available on redhandedpodcast.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Anthony Constantinou is the Wolf Of Bond Street. In 2014, still only 33, he began an elaborate Ponzi scheme from posh offices in Heron Tower — the glass and steel icon that looms over Liverpool Street Station. Once word got out that his ‘Special Fund' was paying five per cent returns a month — so, 60 per cent a year — he wasn't shy of investors. One woman had cancer: her insurance had paid out, so rather than buy her mother a house as she'd originally planned, she was convinced to put the whole lot into the Special Fund. Somehow, many retired Gurkhas were convinced to throw their life's savings in with him. Meanwhile, backstage of this elaborate hoax, Constantinou was living high on other people's cash. He had his own Moto GP team, and sponsored the London Boat Show. He blew through £2.3 million just on his wedding. He spent £70 000 on his baby's first birthday party. And he rented a house on the Bishop's Avenue that cost more to rent in a year than most London houses are worth. By the time the cops burst through his doors of Heron Tower, The Wolf had hoovered up some £70 million of other people's money. His trial took years to make its way to court — in part because he first had to be tried on charges of sexual assault. But in June of 2023, after eight weeks of argument, a jury finally reached a verdict. This is the story of how that trial played out, from the mouths of Britain's top team of court reporters — the staff of Court News UK. And it's the even more shocking story of what happened after the trial had concluded... ***Each week, Fresh From The Old Bailey tells the story of a case from the Central Criminal Court, or the London Crown Courts. Fresh stories of recent trials, told through the eyes of those who were there. This is real true crime. British justice as it is now — from the people who see justice being done, every single day. You can follow us on Twitter: @freshfrombaileyOr Instagram: @freshfromtheoldbaileyCheck out our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOlqIMC3qgASubscribe to Court News' Substack: courtnewsuk@substack.com*** If you've been personally affected by the crimes of Anthony Constantinou, get in touch through our Gmail: FreshFromTheoldbailey@gmail.com.*** My insight is that there is a different way to cover crime. It has to do with making it feel real. It must be the sort of show my peers at J'Accuse and Drukpa could get behind. The sister show to this is one which has the Crimewatch air that you were previously trying to think of. Who are you talking to though? Same issues.
In 1999, Great Britain was shaken when popular BBC news presenter Jill Dando was gunned down at her front door. In their search for the shooter, police examined loved ones, fans, assassins, political extremists, and connections to her popular TV show “Crimewatch.” After months of false leads, a neighbor caught the attention of authorities. Would a single particle of gunpowder be enough to convict a suspect of killing the nation's most beloved television star…or put the wrong man in jail? The Netflix series “Who Killed Jill Dando?” explores the 1999 slaying of the journalist and the many twists and turns of the investigation. Why does her death continue to grip experts and the public all these years later?OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "WHO KILLED JILL DANDO" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 11 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: hard rock.
I reckon Labour has completely lost the plot this week. It started on Monday with its daft idea of taking GST off fruit and vegetables. And then, yesterday, it announced that it wants to sting us for more tax on fuel to help pay for all the new roads it wants to build. A plan which I think National is quite rightfully calling a copycat plan - given that, what Labour is talking about, is pretty much what National is already promising if it forms the next government. National says there's a truckload of money around the world that it would tap into to pay for these new roads. Labour, though, says ‘if you want it, you've gotta pay for it'. So $1.4 billion would come from extra fuel taxes; and $2.9 billion would come from other taxes we pay. Then there's other money from down the back of the chair. But Labour's hypocrisy is astounding. This is a political party that is out there right now saying it's “in it for us”; that it's got a "laser-like focus" on helping us deal with the cost of living. That's what Chris Hipkins said a while back. So it starts the week saying it's going to help us out by making the supermarket shop cheaper for us all by taking the GST off fruit and vegetables. Which has, very quickly, turned into a complete farce because - ever since the announcement - we've had our most senior government politicians in the news talking about canned fruit, salads and chopped-up watermelon. If Clive James was still around, he'd have a field day with all of this wouldn't he? Remember that time on one of his TV shows when he took the mickey out of New Zealand's Crimewatch show because all the stories seemed to be about really minor stuff? An egg being thrown at a Hillman Hunter or a Vauxhall Viva - that sort of thing. Imagine what he'd be saying now? Seeing our Finance Minister answering questions about whether-or-not we should be paying GST on the tomatoe in our burgers? Or whether a salad with mayonnaise qualifies for no GST versus a salad with no mayonnaise. So I think we can safely say that the GST thing's been a real cluster for Labour this week. But then, it takes the cluster next level with this announcement that it wants us to pay more tax on our petrol and diesel. Taking the GST off fruit and veges and then adding more tax on fuel is utter nutbar behaviour. I don't know how many people have said to me this week that, if Labour was really serious about helping us deal with the cost of living, it would be making fuel cheaper because whether or not we drive a vehicle, the price of fuel has an impact on us. The more expensive fuel, the more expensive anything and everything that has to be delivered somewhere gets. The last time I looked, there wasn't a giant veggie garden out the back of Pak n Save or row and row of fruit trees. They have to be transported. So you make fuel more expensive, what's going to do to the price of fruit and veggies? I just can't believe Labour on this one. Yes, we need more money to build and maintain roads. And, yes, one option is for us to pay more tax to make it happen. But just say that and we'll decide whether we like it or not. But don't come out one day and say ‘ooh, we know life's really hard at the moment so we're going to do everything we can to make things cheaper for you” and then, a few days later, tell us that you want us to pay more tax on fuel. It's almost like Labour has decided that yeah, it was really cool winning that huge majority last election, so let's see how far we can go in the opposite direction this election. Because that's what it's going to do with this plan to rob Peter to pay Paul. The stupidity of it all blows me away.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We're kicking off The Taste of the UK Month with a historical made for TV British movie: BBC's Ghostwatch! Halloween Night 1992 saw at least over 30,000 people call in to BBC as their actual broadcasting team played an unintended trick on them: a news reporting story about "Pipes" - a pedo-poltergeist harassing a woman and her two daughters in their home. Their demographic was familiar with their Crimewatch episodes - thus, they thought the creepy moments on their television screen were real! When they called in, the planned "this is not real" message on the line was drowned out - exacerbating the accidental trick! Enjoy!

Jill Dando was one of the most high profile personalities in England in 1999. She had been named BBC Personality of the Year and her career as a journalist was going from strength to strength. She was the host of ‘Crimewatch' – a show similar to America's Most Wanted, and she presented the television news daily. Her personal life was also flourishing. She was engaged to Dr Alan Farthing (Queen Elizabeth's personal doctor), and their wedding was set for later in 1999. On April 26, 1999, Jill went to her house in Fulham, London. She was selling the property because she had moved in with Alan. She went to her own place sporadically to get mail. As she put her keys to the lock, a man ambushed Jill. He pressed a gun to her head and fired. Jill Dando was murdered in cold blood. Now, almost 24 years later, Jill's murder remains unsolved. A man named Barry George was arrested for the crime and was later acquitted. Was Barry really responsible? Could her murder have been the result of a jilted lover? Was Jill murdered as retribution for her role in Crimewatch? Or was she targeted for her journalistic involvement in the Kosovo War? In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the unsolved murder of ‘Crimewatch' host Jill Dando. If you'd like to skip straight to Jill's story, please go to (7:52) Read our blog for this case - https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2023/03/27/the-unsolved-murder-of-crimewatch-host-jill-dando/ This episode is sponsored by: Babbel - Start your new language-learning journey today with Babbel. On a cold and foggy night in November 1967 Rita Ellis made her way across a road to an awaiting red car. The 19 year old then disappeared into the gloom and was never seen alive again. Rita was a cook at RAF Halton in Herefordshire and lived in the women's accommodation block onsite. That evening she had arranged to babysit for Wing Commander Watson but she failed to turn up for the appointment. Her strangled body was found the next morning on the western edges of the RAF camp. Less than two months later a 20 year woman was left for dead after being brutally assaulted and police feared a psychopath was on the loose. Kirsty Young was the award-winning presenter of Desert Island Discs between 2006 and 2018, interviewing 496 castaways. Her TV work includes BAFTA-winning coverage of events marking the centenary of World War One, and memorable live presentation from Windsor of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year. Kirsty was born in East Kilbride in Scotland. After a chance meeting with a freelance TV cameraman, she became interested in a media career, and worked as a runner and then a researcher for an independent production company, before joining BBC Radio Scotland as a trainee news and continuity announcer, beating 700 other applicants. She moved to Scottish Television in 1992, and five years later she was part of the launch of Channel 5, presenting its main news programme while famously perching on the studio desk rather than sitting behind it. She also presented the BBC's Crimewatch for many years. In 2018, Kirsty had to step back from broadcasting, to undergo treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. After four years away from the microphone, she returned to present coverage of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June this year. She is married to Nick Jones, CEO of Soho House and they have four children. DISC ONE: Cello Suite No.1 in G Major, BWV1007: I. OMG, Claudia got an A on a test and now everyone thinks she cheated! Well, by ‘everyone' we mean her teacher, her parents, and Mary Anne, who is just the WORST in this one. Meanwhile, the Pikes are trapped in a hell of their own making, and we're trapped in a hell of Jared Mullray's making. On today's agenda: a bijou spreader event; public sector trophy wives; we all temporarily forget what a kaiju actually is; defeating the far-right with Aoife's face; baseballery gone wrong; taco-based interrogation techniques; foam-football-based intimidation techniques; ill-considered neurolinguistic programming techniques; the Traumatic Jägermeister Incident; wildly implausible locker backstories; adorable baby noises from the junior podcaster; appropriate uses of gaslighting; everyone's doing Crimewatch; extrusion processes all the way down; heterosexual loser talk. Our theme song is "The Incredible Shrinking Larry" by Matt Oakley & "Big Band Jingle A" is by Lobo Loco, both on the Free Music Archive. It's hard to believe it's been 4(!) years since Lenora Claire and Bree Walker met for the first time on The Dark Mark Show. This is definitely one of the best podcasts we ever recorded. Mark and Hannah welcomed producer/curator/activist Lenora Claire and newswoman/actress/activist Bree Walker to the lighter side of the dark side Lenora talked about her days as a child actress which started with her talking her way on to Reading Rainbow, how frugal Steven Spielberg can be, why the LGBT community stays ahead of everyone on trends, why goth and hip hop mix so well together and about her harrowing experiences with a stalker which has landed her on Crimewatch, 48 Hours and Dr.Oz and what we need to do to update the existing laws and make people safer. Bree had her own experience on Reading Rainbow, explaining to children about her having ectrodactyly, how she was one half of the first all woman news anchor team, what it was like being inducted in the San Diego women's hall of fame, her own experiences with stalkers, what it was like to guest star on Nip-Tuck and got the cutest message taped by Hannah's grandpa,
On the 5th of November 1983, 26 year old Lloyd Simpson was shot twice in his flat in Shoreditch in London. He seemed like an unlikely victim of such an execution style murder and the police couldn't understand why it had happened. His murder was featured on only the 5th released episode of Crimewatch however nothing was discovered about the killer or killers. Lloyd's case is the only Crimewatch episode where a picture of the victim hasn't been released. His case is still unsolved. We had the honor of interviewing the District Attorney of Bucks County Pennsylvania on the 14th of December. We had a great discussion on the courts of option and the courts of fact. While seeing how media and technology have impacted the changing issues we face as a nation. We want to thank Matt for his time, and we hope you enjoy the episode. Some extra details on Matt can be found below. As always, check out website for new information on the show. We will be back in the new year January 11th! Cant wait for you to join us then. Subscribe so you don't miss an episode. https://www.benergy1.com/razedtypical Mr. Weintruab grew up in Bucks County and went to Tennet High, Ursinus College and Temple Law School. He has worked for over 25 years as a prosecutor, and was appointed District Attorney in 2016 and elected to serve in 2017. He oversees a staff of 100 employees including 42 prosecutors. He is known for his support for many programs that support drug prevention and treatment and is looking for ways to improve the criminal justice system for people with mental illness. He created Ben's Campaign, a free gunlock distribution program and CRIMEWATCH among other programs that help the community. Mr. Weintraub has tried over 100 criminal cases before juries or judges and has argued successfully before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. As District Attorney, he has decreased prosecutions by getting more offenders into treatment earlier and helping to reduce the cost barriers for these programs. Mr. Weintraub has taught criminal justice courses at Delaware Valley University, Rowan University and DeSales University. He is passionate about educating the public and our youth on justice and public safety in schools and in communities all across Bucks County.
The Golden City is experiencing turmoil due to District Attorney Chesa Boudin's woke-ist approach to criminals. The Epoch Times reports that more than 50 prosecutors, support, and victim services staff have quit their jobs over Bagdad by the Bay's criminal justice reform polices.Boudin is a leftist carrying out the New Left's approach to punishment of law-breakers.He and his ilk contend that if we simply leave criminals alone, well, they wouldn't be criminals. Ah, the logic of liberals! If police aren't arresting and the DA isn't prosecuting, then crime will magically disappear, right? This is the same logic that refuses to call illegal immigrants - illegal. By not using the cruel label “criminal” – all crime drops. Makes sense, right? The woke-ists are only concerned with compassionate justice for the criminal. They fail to realize that a weak approach to crime is an injustice against the victims. If policies like Boudin's and other progressive DA's across the nation are allowed to stand, law-abiding citizens won't be able to keep themselves safe because criminals will be a “protected class.”Whilst there is much to be said about reforming police and community relationships, disempowering police isn't reformation; it's empowering to criminals. But don't miss what's really happening here, there is a far more sinister, nefarious plot afoot. The left is continuing their agenda to reform society by stealing elections, and circumventing the will of the people. This is a necessary move in the BLM ANTIFA New Left partnership. Once criminals can't be prosecuted, anarchy will reign. They will continue using violent riots and destructive protests to bring their Marxist revolution to America. If we don't grasp hold of our foundational principles, and the Gospel of Christ on which it is based - the next step is a Socialist dictatorship.

We are currently experiencing a boom in true crime, with countless TV documentaries about cases like the Yorkshire Ripper, the murder of Jill Dando, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and podcasts such as Serial, The Teacher's Pet and My Favourite Murder. Not only are women usually the victims of these infamous crimes, but they are also the main consumers of the genre. So why are we so fascinated by true crime? Jane speaks to criminologist Dr Gemma Flynn, ex-police officer and Crimewatch presenter Jacqui Hames, All Killa No Filla podcast host Rachel Fairburn and to magazine editor Julia Davis, whose latest title Crime Monthly hit the news stands last month. What is the appeal of reflecting on the grisly detail of violent crime? And how do we ensure that the victims and survivors are not ignored in the clamour to analyse a killer's motives or pathology? Jane speaks to Mo Lea who survived a brutal attack for which Peter Sutcliffe is the prime suspect, and to Carol Ann Lee who has written the book Somebody's Mother, Somebody's Daughter which highlights the stories of the women who's lives were devastated by Sutcliffe.Presenter: Jane Garvey Producer: Laura NorthedgeInterviewed Guest: Dr Gemma Flynn Interviewed Guest: Julia Davis Interviewed Guest: Jacqui Hames Interviewed Guest: Rachel Fairburn Interviewed Guest: Mo Lea Interviewed Guest: Carol Ann Lee
