Today on Everyday Injustice, we revisit a case that has haunted the justice system for nearly half a century—the case of Chief Douglas Stankewitz. Back on the show is attorney Alexandra Cock, who has devoted years to fighting for Chief's release. Her legal work has uncovered a disturbing pattern of official misconduct, evidentiary irregularities, and racial bias that cast deep doubt on the integrity of the conviction. As someone who was just five years old when Chief went to prison—and is now over 50—I find it unconscionable that this case is still unresolved. We first covered Chief's habeas hearings in 2024, which raised compelling questions about forensic evidence, trial testimony, and lost or mishandled evidence. Despite these serious concerns, the judge ultimately denied the habeas petition—mischaracterizing key facts and offering little accountability. With the habeas route closed, Chief's legal team is now turning to a full re-sentencing hearing and two Racial Justice Act motions that may finally open the door to his release. These motions highlight the deeply racialized context of the prosecution and trial, including the removal of the only Native American juror and inflammatory rhetoric used during sentencing. In this episode, Alexandra walks us through the latest legal developments and the broader implications of this case. From questions about prosecutorial overreach to the sheer human toll of decades in solitary confinement, we examine what it means when a justice system refuses to correct its mistakes—even in the face of overwhelming evidence. Alexandra's insights also touch on Chief's life behind bars, his extraordinary resilience, and the powerful support network rallying for his freedom. This conversation is not just about one man's fight for justice—it's about what kind of society we are willing to be. It asks whether courts are capable of acknowledging past wrongs, and whether political expediency will once again override moral clarity. As we prepare for a critical re-sentencing hearing, this episode serves as both a legal update and a call to action. Because after 47 years in prison, the question isn't whether Chief deserves freedom—it's what excuse the system will offer next for denying it.

James 4:17 says Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. This is so important, let's hear it again. Remember, it is a sin to know WHAT you ought to do and then NOT DO IT. When you are MOVED at work during the day, by hearing about or seeing an injustice, do you pray and ask the Lord what He would have you do? .... Or do you just shrug it off and ignore it? The only way we, the body of Christ, will win people for Christ is for each of us to respond and DO our part. And that includes standing against injustice EVERYWHERE we are, including our workplace. .... What will YOU do today, when you see an injustice at work?

Upon discovering NXIVM's illicit activities, Ames took decisive action to expose the group's misconduct. He played a pivotal role in dismantling NXIVM, contributing to the arrest and conviction of its leader, Keith Raniere, who received a 120-year prison sentence. Named after a 6-year-old girl who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza almost a year ago, the Hind Rajab Foundation uses evidence gathered from soldiers' own social media to build cases against them. The group recently filed a complaint against a soldier in Brazil, leading a local judge to issue an arrest warrant for him that he only avoided by fleeing to Argentina. “Unfortunately, the Israeli government smuggled the soldier out of Brazil, which is, of course, obstructing justice,” Abou Jahjah tells Democracy Now! “We are relentless in seeking justice, and we are very convinced that one day justice also will be served in a court of law.”

Welcome to Day 2542 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2542 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 40:13-17 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2542 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2542 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we'll conclude our study of Psalm 40 by exploring verses 13 through 17 from the New Living Translation. These closing verses show us David in a moment of urgent prayer, seeking God's help amid trouble, danger, and opposition. In this passage, David demonstrates a remarkable blend of honesty, humility, and trust. As we reflect on these verses, we'll discover how to bring our fears and struggles to God while remaining confident in His power to deliver and protect. Let's start by reading the passage together: Psalm 40:13-17 (NLT) 13 Please, Lord, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me. 14 May those who try to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace. 15 Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, “Aha! We've got him now!” 16 But may all who search for You be filled with joy and gladness in You. May those who love Your salvation repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!” 17 As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in His thoughts. You are my helper and my savior. O my God, do not delay. A Cry for Immediate Help (Verse 13): Guthrie: David begins this section with an urgent plea: “Please, Lord, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me.” These words are simple yet profound, capturing the desperation of someone who knows their only hope lies in God. David doesn't mince words—he gets straight to the point, asking for rescue and assistance with a sense of urgency. This verse is a reminder that we can approach God directly in our moments of need. Whether our struggles are external threats or internal battles, God invites us to cry out to Him. David's prayer shows that we don't need to have polished words or lengthy explanations—what matters is the sincerity of our hearts. Illustration: Imagine a child who trips and falls, immediately crying out, “Daddy, help me!” The parent doesn't pause to analyze the situation or wait for the child to explain—they rush to help because they love their child. Similarly, God is eager to come to our aid when we call on Him with childlike trust and urgency. Seeking Justice for Opponents (Verses 14-15): In verses 14 and 15, David shifts his focus to those who oppose him: “May those who try to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace. Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, ‘Aha! We've got him now!'” David's prayer here is a request for justice. He's not seeking personal revenge—he's asking God to deal with his enemies in a way that upholds righteousness and truth. Those who seek to harm him and take...

Five years after Jeffrey Epstein's death, survivors of his sexual abuse are still seeking justice through various avenues. Despite the establishment of a victims' compensation fund, which began accepting claims in 2021 and offers a confidential forum for monetary compensation, many survivors feel that true justice has yet to be achieved.Several survivors, represented by law firms such as Merson Law, are demanding accountability from institutions that failed to act on numerous allegations and tips about Epstein's activities. This includes the FBI, which is currently facing lawsuits for negligence in handling Epstein's case. Critics argue that the FBI has shown a lack of urgency in addressing the survivors' claims, in stark contrast to its actions in other high-profile sexual abuse cases, such as those involving Larry Nassar. Moreover, Epstein's influence and manipulation of the justice system allowed him to evade significant punishment during his lifetime, further complicating the survivors' quest for justice. Epstein's 2008 plea deal, which resulted in a minimal sentence, and the subsequent lack of notification to his victims about the deal, highlight systemic failures that survivors are now trying to address through legislative reforms like the Courtney Wild Crime Victims' Rights Reform Act.The struggle for justice continues as survivors push for greater recognition of their suffering, legal accountability for those who enabled Epstein's crimes, and systemic changes to prevent such failures in the future.(commercial at 13:26)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:5 years after Jeffrey Epstein's arrest, push for accountability continues - ABC News (go.com)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

More than a year after Robinson went to police, William Douglas Walker was charged with a sex crime. She alleged he groomed and controlled her when she was 16. After four and half years in court, a judge said there wasn't enough proof she hadn't consented to sex. The case was dismissed.
Fragile Hope: Seeking Justice for Hate Crimes in India (Stanford University Press, 2024). Against the backdrop of the global Black Lives Matter movement, debates around the social impact of hate crime legislation have come to the political fore. In 2019, the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice urgently asked how legal systems can counter bias and discrimination. In India, a nation with vast socio-cultural diversity, and a complex colonial past, questions about the relationship between law and histories of oppression have become particularly pressing. Recently, India has seen a rise in violence against Dalits (ex-untouchables) and other minorities. Consequently, an emerging "Dalit Lives Matter" movement has campaigned for the effective implementation of India's only hate crime law: the 1989 Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act (PoA). Drawing on long-term fieldwork with Dalit survivors of caste atrocities, human rights NGOs, police, and judiciary, Sandhya Fuchs unveils how Dalit communities in the state of Rajasthan interpret and mobilize the PoA. Fuchs shows that the PoA has emerged as a project of legal meliorism: the idea that persistent and creative legal labor can gradually improve the oppressive conditions that characterize Dalit lives. Moving beyond statistics and judicial arguments, Fuchs uses the intimate lens of personal narratives to lay bare how legal processes converge and conflict with political and gendered concerns about justice for caste atrocities, creating new controversies, inequalities, and hopes. Fragile Hope: Seeking Justice for Hate Crimes in India (Stanford University Press, 2024). In 2019, the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice urgently asked how legal systems can counter bias and discrimination. Coming up on this 4th anniversary episode of the Men at the Movies podcast, we discuss one of the greatest movies of all time, The Godfather. These movies awaken a desire for belonging, but also the ability to take justice into our own hands. However, it's very easy for injustice to become a great reason to justify further injustice. In our own way, each one of us wants to be the one pulling the strings. Leave the gun, take the cannoli and join us as we discover God's truth in this movie. Questions What is your favorite mafia movie? What does it mean to be dangerous? What is the difference between vengeance and justice? Which one do you typically want? How does redemption and forgiveness change the outcome? How are the Godfather and God the Father similar? How are they different? What can we learn from this? Opus Dei is a controversial Catholic organisation with schools and conference centres across the globe. Close links to the Vatican mean members are highly influential within the Catholic church. Opus Dei is Latin for “Work of God” and their aim is to help people to achieve holiness through their everyday work. The vast majority of members are lay people. Within Opus Dei, “assistant numeraries” are women responsible for cooking and cleaning in Opus Dei centres. They tend to come from poor or working-class backgrounds often recruited through hospitality schools. Former assistant numeraries say they were overworked, unpaid, isolated from their families and emotionally and spiritually abused. Many women are now speaking up and seeking justice. Journalist Antonia Cundy speaks to survivors in Latin America about their experiences.
The FormerFedsGroup Freedom Foundation (FFFF), a 501(c)(3) organization, announced the filing of a Petition for Writ of Mandamus with the U.S. Supreme Court. The petition seeks immediate action to protect the integrity of the 2024 federal elections and represents families whose loved ones were lost to hospital treatment protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. These families, now standing united, aim to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and constitutional. The petition, submitted by attorney Edward Lacy Tarpley Jr., argues that both voters and these families have been denied informed consent—whether in medical decisions or in the way their votes are counted. The petitioners are calling for sweeping reforms to eliminate vulnerabilities in the election system and ensure that only lawful votes are counted.Follow Ann Vandersteel on Pickax: https://pickax.com/annvandersteelProtect your financial future with precious metals!
