Dr. Amie Harwick was a prominent marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles, California. Her ambition and innate desire to help people elevated her into the upper echelons of Hollywood society, and she built a thriving career and vibrant social life for herself. But behind the scenes, Amie had struggled for years with the looming threat of a man whose obsession ultimately manifested Amie's worst nightmares into her reality. In the early hours of February 15th, 2020, after attending a Valentine's Day burlesque show with her friends, Amie Harwick was attacked in her Los Angeles home and ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Amie's story paints a picture of a brilliant, successful, confident woman who had built a beautiful life for herself, and highlights the importance of education about domestic violence and stalking, and how current laws do not strive to protect victims or prevent tragedy. May 5th marks Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Awareness Day in remembrance of Hanna Harris, a Northern Cheyenne woman who was murdered on the reservation in 2013. In honor of MMIWG Awareness Day, I am collaborating with a small business called Tarabusi Creek, where my friend Steph makes handmade soaps, candles, wax melts, body scrubs, and more. She has created two custom scents in the form of wax melts, and 50% of the sales from those select products will be donated to the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center. You can find the products at Tarabusi Creek's website. If you feel called to make a donation to NIWRC on your own, you can do so on their donation page. _________________________ Patreon Request a Case YouTube Channel Goodpods: Leave a review! Leah Peebles was 23-years-old and had just moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when she disappeared in May 2006. Leah had spent much of her adult life struggling with addiction; moving from Fort Worth, Texas all the way to Albuquerque was supposed to have been a fresh start for her. Leah's father, John Peebles, launched his own investigation after his daughter's disappearance, canvassing the city and questioning witnesses about his daughter's whereabouts. What he discovered about Leah's life in Albuquerque was that it had not been a fresh start, but rather a spiral into the dark underbelly of the city's drug trafficking and sex work scenes. In 2009, the discovery of the West Mesa Murders prompted investigators to attempt to match one of the eleven sets of remains to Leah Peebles... but none were a match. It has now been more than sixteen years since Leah disappeared. The truck that Olivia had been borrowing from a friend that day also vanished. The search for Olivia lasted nearly ten months. With little to no aid or resources from tribal, state, or federal authorities, Olivia's family was essentially left to search for her on their own.Olivia Lone Bear's death is highly suspicious. There is a reward in place for information leading to those responsible for her disappearance and death. Those with any information are asked to call 1-800-225-5324.Olivia Lone Bear is one of far too many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women across the United States and Canada._________________________Request a Case: https://forms.gle/FFZTNhqcXpQ6qRGr8Goodpods | Leave a review: https://goodpods.app.link/ij0wxVE8vobPodchaser | Leave a review: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/crime-and-crime-again-1440387Music: "Poisoned Rose" by Aakash Gandhi_________________________Sources:• https://www.hcn.org/issues/50.12/tribal-affairs-no-crime-scene-the-search-for-olivia-lone-bear• https://bismarcktribune.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/new-details-emerge-in-olivia-lone-bear-case-as-federal-authorities-visit-fort-berthold-reservation/article_7ab709ae-e625-5d3c-8277-96fe812198e4.html#tncms-source=login• https://bismarcktribune.com/news/state-and-regional/search-continues-for-olivia-lone-bear/article_5074c108-0511-5122-8a7e-f5f7d8128f8e.html• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gHLZ8ZLyEg• https://www.justice.gov/usao-nd/pr/media-advisory-us-attorney-and-fbi-leadership-brief-family-olivia-lone-bear-death• https://www.valleynewslive.com/2021/04/08/unit-within-interior-to-investigate-cases-of-missing-and-murdered-indigenous-people/• https://www.mprnews.org/story/2019/11/20/affidavit-woman-was-strapped-into-seat-of-submerged-truck• https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/missing-in-america/family-frustrated-lack-search-efforts-native-america-woman-olivia-lone-n828561• https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/missing-in-america/fbi-confident-body-found-submerged-truck-belongs-missing-mother-olivia-n897546• https://www.hcn.org/articles/tribal-affairs-the-woman-who-searches-for-indian-countrys-missing• https://hpr1.com/index.php/feature/news/olivia-lone-bears-pickup-truck-found• https://www.kxnet.com/news/local-news/uniquely-problematic-in-reservation-communities-the-story-of-policing-on-tribal-lands/

On March 22nd, 1961, the tiny town of Odessa, Texas was rocked by the murder of a teenage girl who attended Odessa High School. Betty Williams was a talented theater student and aspiring actress, but in the eyes of her peers, she was an outcast. The way that Betty viewed the world was entirely ahead of the era during which she was born; her idealistic spirit made her the subject of judgment and contempt amongst her classmates in the conservative Christian oil town of Odessa. When Betty doesn't arrive at school one morning and is reported missing by her mother, most of the locals in town think she's simply run away. But a confession from within Betty's small circle of friends shakes the town to its core._________________________Request a Case: https://forms.gle/FFZTNhqcXpQ6qRGr8YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2Q1EZyOPaPjYh9LiVDSbsAGoodpods: https://goodpods.app.link/ij0wxVE8vobPodchaser | Leave a review: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/crime-and-crime-again-1440387Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/crimeagainpodFacebook Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/751716995667739/Music: "Poisoned Rose" by Aakash Gandhi_________________________Sources:• "Bye-Bye, Betty." Ebby Steppach was 18 years old when she disappeared from her hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas, just days after a party where she alleged that four men sexually assaulted her and recorded their actions on a cellphone. For nearly three years, no trace of her was found. In 2018, authorities returned to the park where her abandoned car had been found just days after her disappearance, and it was there that they located the remains of Ebby Steppach; she had been there the entire time that she was missing. Today, Ebby's murder remains unsolved and no one has ever been charged or arrested in connection with her case._________________________YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2Q1EZyOPaPjYh9LiVDSbsAPodchaser | Leave a review: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/crime-and-crime-again-1440387Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/crimeagainpodFacebook Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/751716995667739/Music: "Poisoned Rose" by Aakash Gandhi on YouTube's Audio Library_________________________Featured Podcast: A Few Bad Apples - https://linktr.ee/afewbadapples_________________________Sources:• https://www.arkansasonline.com/ebby/m/• https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2017/oct/29/search-ebby-parents-friends-hold-out-hope-missing-/• https://storiesoftheunsolved.com/2019/02/02/the-murder-of-ebby-steppach/• https://katv.com/news/local/police-confirm-ebby-steppachs-remains-found-at-little-rock-park• https://www.thv11.com/article/news/crime/unsolved-ebby-steppach/91-d36beb91-5c5c-4c9a-80aa-bb0fd31b2489• https://katv.com/news/local/dead-teens-loved-ones-question-little-rock-police• https://katv.com/news/local/lead-investigator-for-natalee-holloway-joins-search-for-lr-missing-teen• https://katv.com/news/local/missing-central-high-student• https://katv.com/news/local/still-no-sign-of-missing-little-rock-central-hs-student

Kristen Modafferi flew from her home in Charlotte, North Carolina to San Francisco, California on her 18th birthday. A Park Scholar who had just completed her freshman year at North Carolina State University, Kristen had decided to attend a summer photography course at the University of California at Berkeley. By the time she arrived in San Francisco, she had already found a room to rent at a home in Oakland with four other roommates, and within days she had already landed not one, but two jobs at two different coffee shops in the city. After clocking out of work at 3pm on June 23rd, 1997, Kristen was spotted wandering around the second floor of the mall where she worked, allegedly accompanied by a strange woman. After 3:45pm on that day, Kristen vanished. Her summer photography course was set to begin the next day, June 24th.. but Kristen never showed up. On August 17th, 2014, the body of fifteen year old Indigenous girl, Tina Fontaine, was recovered from the Red River in Winnipeg. She had been missing for eight days. On the day she was last seen alive, Tina encountered multiple people, including law enforcement officers, doctors, and her assigned worker from Child and Family Services, who could have put an end to the vicious cycle of trauma pervading Tina's life... but they didn't. Tina could have been saved that day, but the system failed her. The system failed her before she ever even walked this earth. One man was arrested in connection with Tina's death, but today, no one has been charged with the murder of this young girl. The death of Tina Fontaine, and the failures of the system that was supposed to protect her and children like her, sparked an outpouring of grief, anger, and calls to action across Canada. The public demanded that the Canadian government launch an inquiry into the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls._________________________YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2Q1EZyOPaPjYh9LiVDSbsAPodchaser | Leave a review: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/crime-and-crime-again-1440387Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/crimeagainpodFacebook Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/751716995667739/Music: "Poisoned Rose" by Aakash Gandhi on YouTube's Audio Library_________________________Sources:• https://manitobaadvocate.ca/wp-content/uploads/MACY-Special-Report-March-2019-Tina-Fontaine-FINAL1.pdf• https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/tina-fontaine-report-parents-1.5054126• https://www.cbc.ca/missingandmurdered/mmiw/profiles/tina-michelle-fontaine• https://medium.com/age-of-awareness/a-little-girl-lost-how-the-canadian-child-welfare-and-justice-systems-failed-tina-fontaine-7b74104e4584• https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1456190019804• https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/tina-fontaine-last-day-timeline-1.4529490• https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/tina-fontaine• https://www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/family-reacts-to-arrest-of-man-accused-of-killing-tina-fontaine/• https://globalnews.ca/news/3993129/trial-begins-for-tina-fontaines-accused-killer/• https://globalnews.ca/news/4014453/raymond-cormier-interrogation-video-seen-by-jury-in-winnipeg-courtroom/• https://globalnews.ca/news/4014453/raymond-cormier-interrogation-video-seen-by-jury-in-winnipeg-courtroom/• https://www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/final-report/• Raymond Cormier 2014 interrogation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3syU8roimI

Brookelyn Farthing was 18 years old and had just graduated high school when she disappeared from a house on the 100 block of Dillon Court in Berea, Kentucky. She was last seen leaving a party after being offered a ride home from an older acquaintance, someone who her ex boyfriend had been friends with. Instead of taking Brookelyn home, this man took her to his foreclosed house at 4am, where there was no electricity or running water. After attempting to arrange a ride home from family members, Brookelyn makes arrangements for her ex boyfriend to pick her up after he got off work at 6:30am. She told him that she would be fine to wait for him until then. But at 4:30am, Brookelyn began sending a string of alarming and disturbing text messages to him, telling him that she was scared and asking him to hurry. An hour and a half later, he received a message from her stating that she was fine and that she was going to another party in another county... at 5:30am.When her family and friends couldn't reach Brookelyn for several hours after she hadn't shown up to her plans for the next day, they managed to reach the man who was supposed to have given her a ride home from the party the night before. This is when her family learns that Brookelyn apparently vanished after a suspicious house fire in the man's home.Missing: Brookelyn Farthing Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=Missing%3A%20Brookelyn%20FarthingFind Brooke Farthing: http://www.findbrookefarthing.comPodchaser | Leave a review: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/crime-and-crime-again-1440387Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/crimeagainpodRequest A Case: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdkrSr1JpEM5nf3EoiiyEcXPZSf9l7KL2ATizjeBuCxCuUrvg/viewformMusic: "Poisoned Rose" by Aakash Gandhi on YouTube's Audio LibrarySources:• "The Dangerous Houses." This is the first case in a new monthly series where myself and Dr. Jules of Riddle Me That! True Crime will cover and discuss cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Kaysera Stops Pretty Places was 18 years old and a member of the Crow Nation. She disappeared in Hardin, Montana in August of 2019. Five days later, she was found deceased under suspicious circumstances. Her death was classified as “suspicious,” however, there has been no investigation into what really happened to her, or who could have done this. The people she was last known to be with were not questioned, the homeowner of the house where she was found was not questioned, not even the jogger who discovered her body was questioned. Kaysera’s own family was never approached or interviewed about her disappearance or death, and her family has had to make a tremendous effort to communicate with authorities. They have found it extremely difficult to even get anyone to speak with them about Kaysera’s case. Investigating authorities have perpetrated numerous ethical violations and continuously enabled one another in doing so. Help demand justice for Kaysera Stops Pretty Places.
