One off sermon on John 15:13 on Rememberance Sunday
This morning Graham Smye spoke at our Remembrance Service, focussing on John 15:9-17. The post Remembrance Sunday – John 15:9-17 appeared first on Elmdon Church, Solihull.
Preacher: Rev Martha Simpson
In today's Remembrance Service we reflected on the generational links that tie us to the story of last century's great wars, and in the wake of Queen Elizabeth's passing we remembered the way she and her family shared in the sufferings of their people during World War 2. By staying in London when it would have been safer to leave; encouraging people with their presence and their broadcasts; getting alongside folk and being real with them and rejoicing with them when the fighting had finished, the Royal Family identified with the struggles that the rest of the nation was going through. In the same way, in becoming human in Jesus, God not only identified with his human family, but went even further by paying the ultimate price to secure their future.
This is the complete remembrance service from St Andrews Church Slip End. Recorded on the 13/11/22. Proceedings were lead by reader Julie Taylor with Liz Higgens playing the organ. Download Mp3 HERE!

With Armistice Day approaching on Friday, we decided to have a Remembrance Service at our Encounter meeting. Several people share memories of family members or friends who served in one way or another in the World Wars or in other conflicts so that we might have the freedom that we enjoy today. Then we had an opportunity to pray for people who are currently suffering in the many conflicts that are happening around the world today.See additional notes at https://kerithcommunitychurch-my.sharepoint.com/:p:/g/personal/encounter_kerith_church/EUL3tPGtUidFszc32tjxC2MBUq_v8UDcrA1edEAJZRnr9g?e=hpeliG

Why do bad things happen to good people? Luke 13:1-5. “Why do people die?” is a common question children ask their parents. But children aren't the only ones who struggle to find an answer to this question. Although adults better understand that when biological functions cease, the body dies, they also struggle to find an answer to the question—especially when a young person dies. The threat of injury and even death are ever-present companions to fire, police, and military. But that's not what haunts many of these warriors. What weighs heavy on their minds are the lives of those they didn't save.
