Send us a Text Message. This episode peels back the curtain on the current state of university education, especially at the University of Ghana, addressing the critical question: Are we, as graduates, equipped for success after our academic endeavors? We scrutinize the stark transition from lecture halls to boardrooms and the undeniable benefits of real-world experience through internships. Delving further, we dissect the alarming shortage of soft skills among students and spotlight affirmative programs like One Student One Laptop, designed to foster research prowess and digital literacy.Remember the student who never dreamed of leading but somehow always found themselves at the helm? That's the protagonist of our second segment – a student whose reluctant journey to university presidency unfolded with the drama of a political thriller. This tale of accidental leadership is a testament to the power of influence and social capital in the combustible arena of student politics. It's a narrative charged with internal conflicts, the clashing tides of external pressures, and the momentous decision to embrace a role that could shape not just a campus, but a personal legacy. In our concluding piece, we brave the complex topic of bullying and the crucible it forms in shaping emotional intelligence and leadership. Through the lens of personal anecdotes and the experiences of current University of Ghana SRC President, Frank Tsikata, we examine the tightrope walk of leadership amidst adversity. This episode is not just a conversation; it's a journey through the emotional landscape of youth leadership, unpacking the resilience required to stand steadfast in one's purpose against the intoxicating pull of power. Join us for a powerful exploration of what it means to lead, learn, and leave a mark that echoes beyond university walls.Support the Show.Watch the video episode of this on YouTube - https://linktr.ee/konnectedminds

The Blind Boys of Alabama are a legendary American gospel group founded in 1939 at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind in Talladega, Alabama. Originally called the Happy Land Jubilee Singers, the group consisted of mostly visually impaired students who found solace and inspiration in singing together. The original members were Clarence Fountain (baritone), George Scott (baritone and guitarist), Johnny Fields (bass), Velma Traylor (tenor), and Olice Thomas (baritone). Though the lineup has changed throughout the years, with none of the original members remaining, the core mission of the Blind Boys of Alabama has stayed consistent: creating uplifting and powerful gospel music. The Blind Boys of Alabama are credited with pioneering a unique approach to gospel, incorporating elements of soul, blues, and R&B into their sound. Their music has resonated with audiences for decades, and they've achieved incredible success, including: Winning six Grammy Awards Being inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Receiving the National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts The Blind Boys of Alabama have also collaborated with a wide range of artists from various genres, including Prince, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, and Ben Harper. Their enduring legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and listeners alike. On episode 195 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson and AwardsWatch contributors Nicole Ackman, Dan Bayer, Sophia Ciminello, Zach Laws, and Josh Parham conduct a classic Academy Awards retrospective for the 66th Oscars, covering the films of the year 1993. Right now, while the world is still in the middle of the phenomenon that is Barbenheimer, the AW team go back thirty years to when director Steven Spielberg was the king of Hollywood. In 1993, Spielberg made two of what many people believe to be his best films in Jurassic Park and Schindler's List, the latter being the film that would win the director his first Best Director Oscar and win Best Picture of the year. Alongside this success for one of cinema's best artists, the year was a banner year for cinema all around, with a great variety of films celebrated at the Oscars that had massive cultural and critical success like The Fugitive, Philadelphia, The Piano, In the Name of the Father, The Remains of the Day, In the Line of Fire, The Firm, The Age of Innocence, and many more. In this retrospective, the AW team take a look at the year as a whole, talk about the Oscar ceremony, any trends they see in the year, and the legacy of Schindler's List and its Oscar wins. Throw in some Oscar trivia and an extensive version of “Should've, Could've, Would've”, where the team highlight what they think the real winners and nominees should be, and you've got a fun look back as the gang cover dozens of titles, filled with plenty of juicy hot takes. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h47m. It is a big episode but worth the time to talk about this milestone year in cinema. We will be back next week talking about our Top 5 Modern Film Directors. Till then, let's get into it.
