For decades, Soldiers in the Army Ranger School were only men, most of them in their 20s. But in 2015, then-MAJ Lisa Jaster set out to change that, and became one of the first three women, and the first female Reserve officer, ever to graduate Ranger School. For her, it was one of many accomplishments in a distinguished life of service, ranging from her time at West Point to her award-winning fitness career and her stint as an author. Hosts LTG (Ret.) Leslie C. Smith and SMA (Ret.) Dan Dailey sit down with COL Jaster to discuss the highlights of her time with the Army, hear about a Ranger School distinction she holds in conjunction with her late father and glean some valuable fitness tips. Greetings Glocal Citizens! This week's conversation dovetails themes that have become very present in my perspectives in the past year. Our conversation takes place in one of my locals, which happens to be a new-ish local for my guest--Brooklyn, New York. My guest, Ambassador Martin Kimani is a native of a soon-to-be local for me--Kenya. And we are both decidedly on a #PanAfricaProgress mission. Getting to this point, Ambassabor Kimani has spent his career operating at the intersection of diplomacy, security, and political legitimacy, working across national, regional, and multilateral systems to resolve conflict, build institutions, and negotiate power. As Kenya's Permanent Representative to the UN, he served as president of the Security Council and the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS. His Security Council address of February 2022 (https://www.un.int/kenya/statements_speeches/statement-amb-martin-kimani-during-security-council-urgent-meeting-situation), delivered on the eve of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and viewed by millions, affirmed a core element of his leadership: the ability to bring moral clarity and strategic grounding to moments of international rupture. Earlier, in his career, he directed Kenya's National Counter Terrorism Centre and served as the President's Special Envoy for Countering Violent Extremism advising three presidents through national and regional crises, from emergency evacuations to constitutional brinkmanship. This year he stepped into a new role as President and CEO of The Africa Center (https://theafricacenter.org) in New York marking a new phase in his work where diplomacy, strategy, and narrative converge. At the same time his Pan-African portfolio, alongside his continued engagement with the United Nations, positions him as the current President of the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent (https://www.ohchr.org/en/permanent-forum-people-african-descent). In April 2003, CPL J.R. Martinez's Humvee ran over a roadside bomb in Iraq, and he was trapped in the burning vehicle for over five minutes. When he got out, he had burns on 34 percent of his body. Three years in the hospital and thirty-four surgeries later, he was better physically, but his most important accomplishment during that time was finding hope. That allowed him to forge ahead with an incredible life. He became a successful actor, a Dancing with the Stars champion, a best-selling author and a motivational speaker. Hosts LTG (Ret.) Leslie C. Smith and SMA (Ret.) Years later, he decided to serve his adopted country by attending West Point—against the wishes of his parents—but that decision has led to two impactful commissions as a Special Forces officer, a hugely successful law career and now a life as an entrepreneur and practitioner of Artificial Intelligence in the realm of education. Hosts LTG (Ret.) Leslie C. Smith and SMA (Ret.) One of the hardest—if not the hardest—parts of an Army marriage are the deployments, during which a soldier and their family are separated not only physically, but oftentimes emotionally. LTC Brad Cooper and his wife, Heather, have gone through this many times (including a recent two-plus-year command tour in Korea) and in the process have created a set of rules that has allowed their marriage to stay strong. Host SMA (Ret.) Dan Dailey and his special guest co-host Holly Dailey sit down with Heather and LTC Cooper to discuss their high school sweethearts-with-a-twist story, share the rules that they've created, and then test them with some questions from the “Not-So-Newlywed Game.” Guests: LTC Bradley Cooper, U.S. Army and Mrs. Heather Cooper Has a member of the Army positively changed your life? For decades now, Army Soldiers and officers of all levels have been issued hardcover green notebooks to record notes and ideas. While serving, LTC (Ret.) Joe Byerly started to research not only the history of these notebooks but—more importantly—the extremely valuable lessons contained within. His writings inspired him to create the education platform and podcast series From the Green Notebook, on which he speaks to top Army leaders and generals. Hosts LTG (Ret.) Leslie C. Smith and SMA (Ret.) Dan Dailey sit down with LTC Byerly to discuss some of the lessons he's learned in his own Army career, the importance of reading and writing, and how journaling can help someone improve their life—but shouldn't be used in arguments with a spouse... Sarah Wreath is building something solid. After turning heads with her contribution to Sandwell District's End Beginnings, she steps forward with 光と影 (Hikari to Kage), a new EP on a promising Dutch label Wabi Sabi Audio Imprint. It's a compact, carefully crafted release featuring two originals accompanied by remixes from Pianeti Sintetici, HI-C, and label founder Jorge Fons. If you're into vinyl and care about detail, this one is for the shelf. The title track opens with restraint: low-end pressure, drawn-out pads, and a pulse that feels lived-in. Over time, acid stabs and spacey synths slip in, not to explode, but to shift the atmosphere. There's a suggestion of movement in the title, but the track doesn't chase light or fall into darkness. It stays in the grey, in the tension. It's subtle, textural, and confident in its stillness. 光と影 (Hikari to Kage) releases June 6 via Wabi Sabi's Bandcamp. https://soundcloud.com/sarahwreath https://soundcloud.com/wabisabi_ai https://www.instagram.com/sarahhwreath/ https://www.instagram.com/wabisabi__ai Follow us on social media: https://soundcloud.com/itsdelayed https://linktr.ee/delayed https://www.delayed.nyc https://www.facebook.com/itsdelayed https://www.instagram.com/_____delayed https://www.youtube.com/@_____delayed Contact us: info@delayed.nyc

Sarah Wreath has spent years moving through different corners of electronic music, sharpening her craft in deliberate yet effortless ways. Ambient, sound baths, live sets, techno, halftime—she doesn't just dabble; she inhabits these spaces fully, shaping them with a deep understanding of sound and rhythm. Her range is what sets her apart, allowing her to move between intimate, meditative settings and full-throttle dance floors without missing a step. Last year was a big one. Her debut album on The Bunker NY hit the right people in the right way, opening doors that led to a standout set at The Bunker party in Brooklyn alongside Nobu, Patrick Russell, and Doltz, a tour through Japan, and a string of upcoming EPs—including one for the legendary Sandwell District, set to drop in just a few weeks. This time last year, we featured Sarah in our Sundays Are For… series with a beautifully haunting set. Today, she flips the perspective. Her Delayed with… mix isn't just about atmosphere—it's about movement. The sound is weighty but fluid, shifting between tightly wound rhythms and wide-open space. There's a physicality to it, driven by thick, rolling low-end and textures that hover between sharp and submerged. It's techno built for full immersion, the kind that keeps pulling you in without ever demanding too much. Sarah Wreath is one of those artists who make techno feel limitless. And if this mix is any indication, she's only just getting started. https://soundcloud.com/sarahwreath https://www.instagram.com/sarahhwreath Text by @gilleswasserman Follow us on social media: https://soundcloud.com/itsdelayed https://linktr.ee/delayed https://www.delayed.nyc https://www.facebook.com/itsdelayed https://www.instagram.com/_____delayed https://www.youtube.com/@_____delayed Contact us: info@delayed.nyc

On August 8th, 2012, as CPT Florent Groberg was escorting coalition and Afghan personnel to a compound in Asadabad, Afghanistan, he spotted a man approaching who was wearing a suicide vest. Acting quickly, Groberg managed to push the attacker away from the group, but the vest still exploded, killing four people and seriously injuring Groberg. More would have perished, though, if it hadn't been for the Captain's actions, which led to him receiving the prestigious Medal of Honor. Hosts LTG (Ret.) Leslie C. Smith and SMA (Ret.) Dan Dailey sit down with CPT (Ret.) Groberg to discuss how Groberg's childhood in France shaped the person he became, how his recovery from the attack taught him many lessons, and also what it's like being a comic book character. As we turn the page to 2025, we find ourselves reflecting on the powerful moments that defined the Monument Festival last year. One such memory was the opening ceremony led by the incredible Sarah Wreath. A sonic experience that set the tone for connection, introspection, and renewal. The intention behind Sarah's live set was clear: to create a meditative space where festivalgoers could connect deeply—with one another, the natural surroundings of Veggli, and, most importantly, with themselves. It was more than music; it was an invitation to embark on a transformative journey, bridging ancient and modern worlds through sound. Her performance blended electronic synthesis with acoustic elements, weaving together indigenous, ethereal, and psychedelic sounds. The result was a hypnotic tapestry of tribal ambient rhythms, designed to ground us in the moment while opening our hearts to new possibilities. Central to the experience was the use of pure tones tuned to 432 Hz and 216 Hz, frequencies known for their cosmic harmony and healing properties: 432 Hz, often called “natural tuning,” resonated with the rhythm of the universe, fostering relaxation and emotional balance. 216 Hz, a harmonic counterpart, enhanced the meditative quality of the performance, drawing listeners deeper into themselves. A standout element of the ceremony was Sarah's use of a Chao Gong, amplified with a contact microphone and enriched with FX processing. Its deep bass frequencies (110 Hz) created a grounding effect, while layers of Tibetan singing bowls and other meditative instruments brought a celestial dimension to the soundscapes. Together, these elements formed a sonic portal—a sacred opening to the festival and the year ahead. As we welcome 2025, we hold this memory as a symbol of renewal and intention. Sarah's performance wasn't just the beginning of the festival, it was a new beginning for all of us, a reminder of the power of music to heal, connect, and inspire. Here's to carrying that spirit of harmony and connection forward into the new year. May 2025 bring even more moments that resonate with the heart and soul.
