Sandie is joined by Jeremy Vallerand, CEO and President of Atlas Free. Formerly Rescue Freedom International, Atlas Free is leading the charge to discover, connect, and grow the global network of anti-human trafficking organizations. Jeremy Vallerand Jeremy Vallerand is the CEO & President of Atlas Free, a global non-profit organization working in over 20 countries to prevent, combat, and end sex trafficking and exploitation. His Tedx Talk - “Using Your Passions to Fight Injustice” - encourages people to leverage their own skills and passions to improve the world around them. He has an undergraduate degree in Business from Trinity Western University in British Columbia, Canada and a graduate degree in Diplomacy from Oxford University in the UK. Jeremy lives in Seattle, WA with his wife, Maren, and their three children. Key Points Atlas Free started with the idea to vet and connect international organizations combatting human trafficking with U.S. communities and supporters, and vice versa. "Rescue" does not capture the work and role that survivors play in their own recovery from human trafficking. Atlas Free looks as being "heroic" as sacrificing your time and resources to give agency back to those being served. Atlas Free's (formerly Rescue Freedom International) vision is to rebrand their organization to recognize the need for a global atlas, a global network, to address human trafficking. Joining us this week is Kelly Welk: She is a wife, mother, hostess, cook, owner of Cider Press Lane and founder of the Freedom Dinners.Kelly talks about how she found her way into her calling by simply doing the things she already loves doing. After releasing herself from doing "big things" it was actually through the little things--like her love of cooking and gathering people together--that she found a way to make a big impact and develop community. With the creation of the Freedom Dinners she combined her love of food and people to help combat the injustices she saw around the world. She used these dinners as a way to raise over $50,000 for Rescue: Freedom International, an organization that sets people free from slavery around the world.Kelly also talks about the importance of doing things slowly, so that they can be done well. It requires both time and practice to do things well. One of the temptations we have in our culture is to do a lot of things and to do them fast. Through giving herself permission to go deep and slow, she's been able to learn the self-discipline it takes to say "no" to things, in order for her to be able to say "yes" to the things that she is really passionate about. It was in this process that she built both a business and a way of life that she and her family love and share with others. Kelly talks about work-mode vs mom-mode and finding the balance that life requires when you are a business owner with three school-aged children. This conversation is full of great nuggets about pursuing your dream, following your calling and building community along the way. The everyday and ordinary are not frivolous, they can have meaning and purpose if you live intentionally.Kelly is reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark ComerKelly listens to the Exploring My Strange Bible Podcast.Kelly is inspired by her three kids. You can get Kelly's Books; "Dinner Changes Everything" and "Dream Catcher" as well as her other fair market goods (such as aprons, wooden spoons and bowls) on her website: ciderpresslane.com Follow Kelly on Instagram @ciderpresslane or @kellywelk
Happy New Year! This week on Typology, I’m thrilled to welcome my friend, Betsy Miller. Betsy is the Director of Finance for Storybrand and also serves as the chairman of the Board of Directors for RESCUE: Freedom International, an organization that is a leading force in the rescue and restoration of survivors of human trafficking. Betsy and I take a look into the mind of an Enneagram Six, or The Loyalist. Enneagram Sixes tend to doubt the commitment of others, have difficulty making decisions without outside input, and always consider the worst-case scenario. Tune in as we explore the Loyalists' basic fear and provide some great tips to help Sixes learn to accept anxiety and doubt on their journey toward health.

On Episode 223 of the Mama Bear Dares Podcast, Leslie sits down with Kelly Welk, hostess extraordinaire and anti-sex trafficking advocate. Years ago, Kelly looked around and saw extra — extra food in her refrigerator, extra space in her home, extra seats at her table — and felt compelled to find ways to share her plenitude. She started by throwing a dinner party for friends to raise money for Rescue Freedom International and has since raised tens of thousands of dollars for trafficked girls, started a business, and engaged her community in big and beautiful ways. The women talk about how to act on your big and bold dreams, how to channel what you love into making a difference in what you care most about, and how to find the courage and wisdom to engage the Mama Bear to share your abundance. It all started for Jeremy when he was on a leisurely trip to India. A couple abolitionists introduced him to the horrors of the red light district—women and children being sold into sex slavery. That day changed him forever. He went on to start Climb For Captives—an initiative he started which has raised over $750,000 so far! Later, he founded Rescue:Freedom International—an amazing group of humans fighting to end slavery one life at a time. And they’re doing it! To date, they’ve helped 49,138 people all over the world. They are 481 people currently receiving restorative care, and they’re working in 11 countries. Amazing work! I know you’re going to love Jeremy and the work he and RF are doing all around the world. Two years ago the people of Reach raised $130,000 to build a safe house with Rescue:Freedom International in Central India. Those dollars built a new house that over 70 women and children now call home. We had the chance to celebrate the opening of the home with Easo and Leela, the founders of the rescue home, on their first trip to America. We also heard the story of how God called them out of comfort, and into mission—and how they've experienced more joy than they ever thought possible as a result.
In this episode, Director Sandra Morgan and GCWJ Board member Dave Stachowiak introduce Dr. Becca Johnson who is the International program director at Rescue Freedom International.
