Welcome to the Influence Podcast! I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. In this episode I talk to Prof. Matthew D. Kim about his new book, Becoming a Friendlier Church: A Pathway to Genuine Community, forthcoming from Baker Books. Our focus is why churches are unfriendly and how they can become friendlier. "In this book, I want to draw attention to a crisis in congregations that may not be on many people's radars: too many churches are less friendly than they realize," Kim writes. "Unfriendliness might be furtively devouring their church's ministry effectiveness, influence, and longevity." Every church thinks it's friendly. But Kim writes, "Just as in the first round of American Idol, where some contestants overstate their singing abilities as they audition, many Christians believe they are good, friendly welcomers even if they're not." Matthew D. Kim, Ph.D., is professor of preaching and pastoral leadership, holder of the George W. Truett Endowed Chair in Preaching and Evangelism, and director of the Ph.D. in preaching program at Baylor University's Truett Seminary. Imagine being there as a young Mary—likely no older than fourteen—walked into the hills of Judea to embrace her cousin Elizabeth. In that moment, Mary's heart overflowed with the Magnificat, a prayer that would echo through generations as a testimony of God's faithfulness. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef highlights why Mary's prayer matters so deeply for your everyday faith. Mary's circumstances were bewildering and weighty, yet she faced them with steady confidence because her life had been shaped by a deep relationship with God and a lifetime of immersion in His Word. Her praise flowed from gratitude: God had chosen her to bear the long-promised Messiah—the Savior of the world. Dr. Youssef also points to the remarkable balance in Mary's Magnificat: authentic, biblical self-esteem that is neither prideful nor insecure—confidence without arrogance, humility without shame. Mary's life wasn't warped by materialism, possessions, or peer pressure; it was anchored in God's promises. And through her prayer, Mary declares what every believer must learn to trust: God always keeps His promises. This devotional invites you to ask yourself: Will you magnify God in every circumstance—especially the ones you don't understand? That posture is the essence of Mary's prayer and a key to power in prayer today. Prayer: Lord, You are the matchless, sovereign God. You alone are worthy of my praise. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name” (Luke 1:48-49). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. Habakkuk ministered in a tense moment in Israel's history—when Babylon was rising and judgment was approaching—yet the heart of his book is deeply personal: moving from impatience and confusion to steadfast trust in God's timing. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef walks through Habakkuk's prayer in chapter 3 and points to three features that can reshape your own prayer life when answers feel delayed: Humility before God: Habakkuk begins by questioning God's silence (Habakkuk 1:2), but ends with reverent awe—learning to submit his perspective to God's sovereignty. Adoration of God: Instead of using prayer only to get solutions, Habakkuk models prayer as worship—asking to know God more and responding in obedience. Focus on God's work: Habakkuk pleads for mercy and awakening—not because the people deserve it, but because he longs for God's Name to be glorified. Where many sink into anger, depression, or prayerlessness when heaven feels quiet, Habakkuk turns delay into discipleship—asking, in effect, “Lord, what are You teaching me? How can I trust You more?” This devotional will help you pray through waiting seasons with faith, perspective, and joy that isn't dependent on circumstances. Prayer: Father, may I set my heart on You, the God of grace, wisdom, and sovereign power. I believe Your promises and will wait on You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior” (Habakkuk 3:17-18). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. Jonah didn't run toward God's calling—he ran the other way. Sent to Nineveh, he fled to Joppa, boarded a ship for Tarshish, and ended up in the last place he expected: the belly of a great fish. Yet in that dark, desperate place, Jonah did one thing right—he prayed with everything he had. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef invites you into Jonah 2:1–6, a prayer for anyone who feels trapped by a storm—whether that storm was caused by disobedience or came through no fault of your own. Dr. Youssef highlights a crucial detail: Jonah didn't improvise empty words—he prayed the Scriptures back to God, echoing God's promises (especially from the Psalms) when he didn't know how, when, or even if deliverance would come. This devotional will encourage you to: pray God's promises when your emotions are overwhelming, trust God's sovereign rescue even when you can't see a way out, and remember this hope-filled Truth: even if we forsake God, He never forsakes His people. Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your steadfast love and forgiveness. Because of Your grace and mercy, I can face any storm, for I know You are with me. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit” (Jonah 2:6). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. Published by Baker Books, Grand Rapids, MI. Daniel didn't become courageous in the lions' den overnight. Long before he stood firm before kings, he first bent the knee in secret—day after day, seeking the Lord when no one was watching. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef traces Daniel's life from exile in Babylon to his unwavering refusal to stop praying, reminding us: whenever you see someone standing strong for God, you'll find they first learned to kneel. Dr. Youssef highlights Daniel's remarkable prayer in Daniel 9, offered after nearly seventy years of exile. It's a prayer marked by confession, intercession, and petition—and it flows from a man anchored in God's promises. Daniel trusted the Lord who had already revealed His plan through prophets and who moves history according to His timetable—sending His people home precisely as promised, and later sending the Messiah at the appointed time. This devotional will encourage you to: prioritize prayer over panic, rely on God's promises when the future feels uncertain, and remember that prayer makes us partners in God's unfolding plan. Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the honor of serving Your Kingdom through prayer and obedience. Help me to be faithful. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name” (Daniel 9:19). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. David's life looked like the definition of success—power, influence, a throne. Yet behind the scenes, his family was unraveling through tragedy and rebellion, and he found himself fleeing his own son Absalom. In exile and grief, David prayed not with polished words, but with a heartfelt plea for mercy and justice—and Psalm 28 captures that cry for every believer who has ever felt overwhelmed, slandered, mistreated, or misunderstood. In this episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef highlights the turning point in David's prayer: when your world is falling apart, the most revealing question isn't “Why is this happening?”—it's “Will I run to God, or blame Him?” Even when we face consequences from our own wrong choices, David shows the right posture: humility. A cry for mercy is the opposite of saying, “God, You owe me.” You'll also hear why David's posture mattered—arms raised, fully engaged—because sometimes wrestling in prayer becomes the pathway to victory. And through every layer of collapse—family, leadership, reputation—one Truth held steady: God was David's Rock. If you're facing betrayal, pressure, or pain that feels bigger than you, this devotional will re-anchor your heart in the unchanging character of God: His power doesn't diminish, His love doesn't shift, and His mercy doesn't fade. Prayer: Lord, I will trust in You when circumstances threaten to overwhelm me. I will rest in Your mercy toward me and hope in Your coming Kingdom. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” (Psalm 28:7). *This devotional adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. Published by Baker Books, Grand Rapids, MI. In 1 Samuel 1, we meet Hannah—whose name means “favored,” even though her heart felt anything but favored. Crushed by grief and unable to conceive, Hannah pours out a prayer so raw that Scripture says she prayed “in deep anguish… weeping bitterly” (1 Samuel 1:10). And from this prayer of brokenness, God would raise up a man who would shape history—Samuel, who would anoint the king in the lineage of the coming Savior. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef highlights several powerful lessons from Hannah's prayer: God honors brokenhearted prayer—even when it's painful and messy. Silent prayers still reach heaven—Hannah's lips moved, but no sound came out, because she wasn't performing for anyone. True prayer seeks God, not attention—Hannah wasn't trying to impress, manipulate, or gain sympathy; she went straight to the only One who can do the impossible. If you're carrying heartbreak, unanswered longing, or grief too heavy for words, this devotional is a reminder that God hears “groaning too deep for words”—and He delights to meet you in weakness with His faithful love. Prayer: Thank You that You are close to the brokenhearted. I bring my brokenness to You today, knowing that in You alone am I made whole. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). “What should I do next?” is one of the most common questions believers bring to God—and in today's MY Devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef takes you to Genesis 24, where Scripture records the first prayer offered in the same way we pray today. Abraham's trusted servant Eliezer is sent on a mission that will shape the covenant line: find a wife for Isaac. Along the journey, he stops and prays a clear, specific prayer for guidance (Genesis 24:12–14)—and God answers before he finishes praying (Genesis 24:15). Dr. Youssef highlights why this matters for your decision-making: Specific prayers aren't unspiritual—God often honors clear, faith-filled requests. Flexibility matters—God may answer differently than expected, but never outside His wisdom. Prayer doesn't replace action—Eliezer prays and keeps moving, watching, and obeying. The takeaway is simple and challenging: faithful prayer + unconditional obedience = answered prayer. If you're seeking guidance for a major decision, this episode will help you pray with clarity, walk with confidence, and discern God's direction as He leads. Prayer: Lord, thank You that I can bring my specific requests to You and trust that You hear and answer them in Your perfect wisdom and timing. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” (Psalm 9:10). *This devotional is adapted from Life-Changing Prayers by Michael Youssef © 2018. Mary B is joined by Kat Armas to discuss her new book, Liturgies for Resisting Empire: Seeking Community, Belonging, and Peace in a Dehumanizing World. This episode begins with Armas offering an invocation — as she does at the start of each chapter of her latest book. Her invocation is aptly a liturgy for resisting empire. Armas focuses on the important of community as resistance because as she says, “friendship… is the death of empire.” It is in community where one finds new ways to resist and care for their neighbor. Empire insidiously convinces us to think in binary and Armas urges the listener to hold on to complexity in a world that often demands simplicity.Kat Armas (MDiv, MAT, Fuller Theological Seminary) is a Cuban American writer and podcaster and the recipient of Fuller Seminary's Frederick Buechner Award for Excellence in Writing. Send us a textComplementarians use a lot of really nice-sounding words to describe their beliefs about gender roles, but when you actually break down what they mean, they're not talking about roles at all—they're talking about hierarchy. In this episode, Keith and I decode all the euphemisms like "different roles," "servant leadership," and "his headship is for your protection" to show what complementarians are really saying: that men should be in authority over women. The problem is, when you actually implement these beliefs in marriage, we see relationships struggle—and the statistics bear that out. And we work directly against the gospel, putting the husband in the place of Jesus. “The best days of the church are ahead,” write Kara Powell, Jake Mulder, and Raymond Chang. “Don't get us wrong. We are under no illusion that churches have it easy in this season. These days the church can feel … So fractured, So distracted. So divided and politicized. So exhausting. So hard to lead. Like everything is an uphill battle.” So why are these authors confident about the future of the church? That's the question I ask Kara Powell in this episode of the Influence Podcast. I'm George P. Stephanie here! I've welcomed Summer Joy Gross on the show a few weeks ago (episode 319) and I wanted her back to continue discussing her book, The Emmanuel Promise, with more of the practical aspects of what it looks like to walk with God in the daily life. As we continue today, we're going to talk about object permanence, repentance, Lectio Divina, imaginative prayers, as different ways that we are invited into the presence of God. Now at the end of our conversation, I'm going to read after she prays a beautiful prayer for you, which you do not want to miss. I'm going to read from the end of her book. It's a chapter called “Stewarding the presence,” and she summarizes some of the practices, the various ways that she invites us into the presence of God by His spirit. I had the privilege of welcoming Summer Joy Gross a second time on the Gospel Spice podcast, where we dove deep into the transformative power of practicing the presence of God and the impact of imaginative prayer. Here are some key takeaways for you: 1. Embracing the Senses in Faith: Summer shared about using physical objects like candles and jewelry to remind herself of God's presence. She emphasizes the need to build a stronger attachment to God by engaging the senses, rather than relying solely on intellectual faith. 2. Overcoming Doubt and False Beliefs: We discussed Summer's journey through doubt and false beliefs about God. Her experience of overcoming anxiety and shame through experiencing God's compassion is truly inspiring. 3. The Power of Imagination in Scripture: Summer highlighted the value of utilizing imagination in communion with God, referencing the impact of media in inviting people inside biblical stories. We explored "The Chosen" TV series and its role in helping people to imagine themselves in biblical stories, leading to a deeper connection with scripture. I invite you to listen to the full episode for an enriching and insightful conversation. Let's continue to seek God's presence and experience His goodness practically, without shame. Find Summer at https://www.athirstforgod.com/ We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with. “God is infinitely powerful; people are not. Your physical, emotional, and spiritual health affect the well-being of those Jesus has called you to serve. In this way, doing your part to care for yourself is not an act of selfishness — it is a necessary component of selflessness.” So writes Hal Donaldson in his new book, What Really Matters: How to Care for Yourself and Serve a Hurting World, cowritten with his daughter, Lindsay Donaldson-Kring and published in June by Baker Books. In this episode of the Influence Podcast, I talk to Donaldson about serving others without hurting yourself. I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. Hal Donaldson is founder, president, and CEO of Convoy of Hope, a global faith-based nonprofit organization that works with communities to address root causes of poverty and hunger. ————— This episode of the Influence podcast is brought to you by My Healthy Church, distributors of Captivated. There is a difference between knowing the Word of God and knowing the God of the Word. The Captivated Bible study takes women deeper with God so that they may be firmly rooted, unshakable, and flourishing in His Kingdom. For more information about Captivated, visit MyHealthyChurch.com.

Stephanie here! I had the most delightful encounter today with Summer Joy Gross. Let me tell you about her through reading a sample of the book we're going to talk about. It's called The Emmanuel Promise, and it's a book that I lingered over. I took time. As you know, I read several books a week to decide which ones I'm going to have on the show. And this one, I just couldn't, read it quick. I just had to take my time with it. So here's what she writes. “Try it out. Go to a busy Starbucks at 7 in the morning, and as people rush in and out, ask Emmanuel to give you eyes to see his love for this one unique expression of his creativity or to gift you with a picture of their pain? Practice the presence of God with this person standing on the threshold of their day, one glorious being, broken and beautiful at a time. Ask, and then pray his heart for them. Look around at the faces of those lost in the glow of their screens and ask Emmanuel to flood you with his first majestic idea of their creation, what he meant when he create he carefully crafted them. Become easily delighted with created art in human form. Fall in love a 1000 times over. Then, attached and courageous enough to risk, make yourself available to Emmanuel's mission to speak good news to the poor, rescue captives, bind up broken hearts, comfort mourners, to draw all people into attachment love with their Emmanuel, the one who longs to fill every empty heart. Then go to the homeless shelter, to the prison, to the boutique, to the boat docks. Walk the light of Christ into the corners of the world. Pray God would make every ordinary location a sanctuary of His presence. “ Now, let me tell you: Someone who inspires me to do that is someone I want to hang out with. And that's Summer Joy Gross. She is an Anglican priest, retreat leader, spiritual director whose work is guided by the belief that our stories can be transformed by God's invitation to make his love our home base. She's an associate faculty of spiritual formation and the art of spiritual direction at the Healing Care Ministries Spiritual Direction School. She's the host of the Presence podcast. She lives in North Georgia with her husband. They have 3 teenagers, and a Britney Spaniel who points lawn ornament rabbits around their suburban neighborhood. Now, let me tell you about our conversation. Summer Joy Gross beautifully invites us into the essence of believing in the constant presence of God, drawing inspiration from Brother Lawrence who found comfort in God's presence during pandemics and war. She emphasizes the use of physical objects to remind oneself of God's presence. We talk about the transformative power of suffering, embracing all emotions, and finding rest in God even through the dark night of the soul. Summer Joy Gross courageously shares her personal experience of questioning God's goodness after enduring sexual abuse. Her journey, spanning over 7-8 years of doubt, resonates deeply and beautifully reflects the resilience to find belief in the goodness of God. The conversation uncovers the struggle of false beliefs and the freedom found in believing in God's heart for humanity. They expand on the power of spiritual practices and the deep, soul-nourishing experience of Lectio Divina. Summer highlights the importance of acknowledging and bringing our needs before God, creating a pathway for a rich, fulfilling relationship with Him. Together, we invite you into the impact of early wounds and the beauty in merging spiritual practices with science. Here are 5 key topics in this episode: 1. The importance of practicing the presence of God, particularly in challenging times, and how it can bring comfort and peace. 2. Exploring the use of physical objects like candles and jewelry to remind ourselves of God's presence in our daily lives. 3. Embracing a more embodied experience of faith rather than relying solely on intellectual understanding. 4. Overcoming doubt and false beliefs about God's heart through transformative experiences of His goodness and compassion. 5. Using spiritual practices like Lectio Divina and imaginative prayer to deepen our connection with God and find freedom and healing. So make sure to join us! It goes to their houses, and speaks to their hearts; it relieves their wants, sympathizes with them in their distresses, instructs them in divine things, and recommends them to God. Katelyn Beaty believes that some Christian leaders use their fame and influence in positive ways. But too often, she says, fame and celebrity are cultivated for their own sake, or for the sake of profits and the building of personal empires. We see this phenomenon most conspicuously with the prosperity Gospel preachers. But, increasingly, these practices of the Prosperity Gospel have crept into mainstream evangelical ministries. That's why Katelyn Beaty believes we should explore the evangelical church's relationship to celebrity. She explores how fame has reshaped the American church, explains why and how celebrity is woven into the fabric of the evangelical movement, and identifies how fame has misshapen the church. Katelyn Beaty is an editor at Baker Books, and has written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She previously served as print managing editor at Christianity Today. Her new book is Celebrities For Jesus: How Personas, Platforms, and Profits are Hurting The Church.

Be the Unicorn: 12 Data-Driven Habits that Separate the Best Leaders from the Rest by William Vanderbloemen https://amzn.to/467qTXS Want to stand out from the crowd? We have studied 30,000 top leaders and have discovered the 12 habits they share that make them as rare as a unicorn. Learn these habits, and you'll be one of the best at whatever you do! How do I stand out? How do I become irreplaceable? With a crowded workforce, an unstable job landscape, and the rise of AI, these questions are the ones that everyone either is or should be asking. William Vanderbloemen has asked these questions over the past 15 years while running one of the world's top executive search firms. Through extensive research of over 30,000 top leaders and proprietary data, Vanderbloemen has identified the 12 habits that the best of the best have in common. Traits such as authenticity, responsiveness, agility, and the ability to problem solve, among others. Each habit includes information on What We Know (the hard data behind why the habit is so transformative), What We've Seen (first-hand accounts by high-achieving professionals on how they live the habit), and What We Do (simple ways to build this habit into your daily routine). Be the Unicorn will help you: Discover the top twelve soft skills the most successful leaders, the top 1%, have. Understand how to develop these soft skills in your own life for better job success. Learn how to apply soft skills to interpersonal relationships outside of work. Understand how these soft skills can be applied in different work environments and job fields, especially with the rise of AI technology. About the author William Vanderbloemen is an entrepreneur, pastor, speaker, author, and CEO and Founder of Vanderbloemen Search Group, an executive search firm serving churches, ministries, and faith-based organizations. William has combined over 15 years of ministry experience as a Senior Pastor with the best practices of Executive Search to provide churches with a unique offering: a deep understanding of local church work with the very best knowledge and practices of professional executive search. Prior to his founding Vanderbloemen Search Group, William studied executive search under a mentor with over 25 years of executive search at the highest level. His learning taught him the very best corporate practices, including the search strategies used by the internationally known firm Russell Reynolds. William also has experience as a Manager in Human Resources in a Fortune 200 company, where he focused on integration of corporate culture and succession planning. All of these experiences have come together with his pastoral work to form a unique gift for helping churches and ministries build great teams by finding their key staff. Prior to executive search, William led growth and innovation in churches in North Carolina, Alabama, and Houston. During his time in Alabama, William had the chance to help rebuild and relocate an ailing congregation and lead them to new levels of growth. At 31, he was elected Senior Pastor for the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, a church of about 5000 adults and 1500 children strong. It is Houston's oldest congregation. William is regularly invited to speak across the country in both church services and as a resource to churches and conferences on leadership. He is a regular contributor to several major publications including Forbes where he covers topics about having a strong faith and building a business, Fortune, and Outreach Magazine. He has also been published through Fast Company, Entrepreneur, and Inc. His book "Next: Pastoral Succession That Works" on effective pastoral leadership and succession was released through Baker Books in September 2014. His most recent book, "Search: The Pastoral Search Committee Handbook," the practical guide to the pastor search process, was released through B&H Publishing in June 2016.

Welcome to episode one hundred and one of New Creation Conversations. This week's conversation is with my wonderful friend and gifted thinker, Dr. Kara Powell. Kara is chief of leadership formation, the executive director of Fuller Youth Institute, and professor of youth and family ministry at Fuller Seminary. She holds degrees from Stanford, Bethel Seminary, and her PhD is in Practical theology from Fuller.Kara also serves as a Youth and Family Strategist for Orange and has served in a number of local church ministries. Just two or three years ago Christianity Today named Kara as one of the “50 Women to Watch” in Christian leadership. She has written and contributed to a number of books and has been on the podcast with me before. This time, Kara and I talk about her soon to be released book written by Kara and her research partners. The book's title is Faith Beyond Youth Group: 5 Ways to Form Character and Cultivate Lifelong Discipleship – published by Baker Books with a release date of November 7. Building on two decades of the Fuller Youth Institute's work and incorporating extensive new research and interviews, Faith Beyond Youth Group identifies the reasons youth ministry often flops both short-term and long-term, and offers five ways adult youth leaders can cultivate character for a lifetime of growing closer to Jesus rather than drifting away. One reviewer calls it “a game-changing resource for anyone in youth ministry.” It is a wonderful resource and an enlightening conversation.

Stephanie welcomes pastor and author Jared C. Wilson for an intriguing conversation about what a true, authentic friendship with Jesus feels and tastes like. They talk about how it will transform your life, and your very identity. It is about knowing Christ, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship in His sufferings – as Paul tells us in Philippians 3:10, which is Stephanie's favorite verse and lifelong quest! So, you are invited to join this conversation to embrace friendship with Christ in ways that will take you deeper than any other relationship on earth. Stephanie and Jared talk about what friendship is – what is has been historically, and what our modern technologies have turned it into. They discuss the importance of a lifelong quest for humility as the key to ever-deepening intimacy with Christ. They talk about the danger and reality of staleness with Him and how to remedy. They talk about that “holy heartburn” the disciples on the way to Emmaus experienced when Christ gave them the greatest, most comprehensive Bible study ever – and how we can join in on the experience. Jared touches on the importance of suffering in the midst of life as a touchpoint towards Christ – much as we would rather avoid it. Stephanie reads all the books whose authors she welcomes here at Gospel Spice (yes, that is a LOT of reading). But once in a while, a book draws her in so deeply, and resonates with her own longing so closely, that she finds herself lingering within its pages and relishing its flavors. So it was with Jared's book, “Friendship with the Friend of sinners.” So, listen in, and then consider grabbing your own copy – for yourself and for a friend! Stephanie suspects you will be glad you did. MORE ABOUT JARED C. WILSON Jared C. Wilson is Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry and Author in Residence at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a pastor and Director of The Pastoral Training Center at Liberty Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. An award-winning author of over 20 books, Jared also hosts the For The Church Podcast and co-hosts The Art of Pastoring Podcast, which is published by Christianity Today. Jared is not a catalytic "agent of change" or a visionary anything. He is a failed church planter and once made a mess of his marriage. He likes food too much and worries way too much about what people think, and he's definitely not all that he's cracked up to be. After nearly 30 years of ministry, he's mainly learned that he's kind of a nincompoop. But he knows Jesus loves him. Find more at https://www.jaredcwilson.com/ MORE ABOUT “FRIENDSHIP WITH THE FRIEND OF SINNERS” Are you longing for true connection? The Bible calls Jesus the friend of sinners, but it's hard to imagine what friendship with Jesus really looks like. How are we supposed to feel that close to a holy, perfect, and invisible God? How do we see Jesus as the real person he is? And how do we experience true friendship with him when we struggle to maintain true friendship on earth? Join author Jared C. Wilson as he explores what it means to be a friend of Jesus. Through candid personal stories and insights into the Gospels, Wilson uncovers easily overlooked details of the close relationship Jesus had with his followers. He reveals the ways we often hold Jesus at arm's length and shows how to draw close to him through radical honesty, consistent communication, and unconditional love.
