Stories are how our brains make sense of the world—and in this conversation, Ginny sits down with friend and master storyteller Paul Hastings (host of Compelled) to explore why narrative cuts through noise and sticks. From his Thai–Ozark family roots to thousands of hours crafting immersive, sound-rich episodes, Paul explains the simple science of attention (“your brain wakes up when a story begins”), the power of silence, and how true, well-edited stories help us carry big ideas without a lecture. It's a generous, behind-the-scenes look at how meaningful narratives are made—and why they move us. You'll hear practical takeaways for home, work, and community: how to invite stories out of your kids, how to hold space when the hard parts surface, and how to turn lived experience into hope for someone else. n this powerful message on Christ-compelled multiplication, we're challenged to embrace our role as disciples who make disciples. The key scripture comes from Matthew 9:35-38 and Matthew 10:1-7, where Jesus models compassion, prayer, and empowerment. We're reminded that multiplication was God's original design, seen in Genesis 1:22-28 with the command to 'be fruitful and multiply.' This isn't just about numbers, but about transforming lives through the power of Christ. The message draws an interesting parallel between physical and spiritual multiplication, comparing disciples to apple seeds that have the potential to grow into orchards. As we reflect on our own faith journey, we're challenged to ask: Who are we walking with? Are we holding tightly to our faith or actively passing it on? This call to multiplication isn't just for a select few – it's for all of us who follow Christ. Let's open our eyes to see the harvest around us, allow Christ's love to compel us, and step out in the authority He's given us to make disciples who make disciples.

Shannon Foster didn't grow up in a Latter-day Saint home where scriptures were regularly studied—and her father wasn't a member of the Church. But rather than see this as a setback, Shannon considers it one of her greatest blessings. That unique perspective has shaped her ability to relate to others and to inspire confidence in anyone seeking to better understand and love the scriptures. In this episode, Shannon shares her journey and explains why she's so passionate about helping others develop a personal, meaningful relationship with scripture—no matter their background. 1:56- A Home Without Gospel Learning 8:06- The Lord Qualifies 14:05- Compelled to Share 17:18- Scaffolding 22:50- Family Scripture Study 27:25- The Power of Families 34:31- Think Like a Coach 42:12- Imperfect Practice 46:25- What Does It Mean to Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? “I feel like I can stand in my spot and relate and say I was that girl who knew nothing about the scriptures and now I have found great power in the scriptures.” Link: The Red Headed Hostess guidebooks- https://www.deseretbook.com/category/church-resources_teaching-helps_the-red-headed-hostess/church-resources_teaching-helps_the-red-headed-hostess_guidebooks/

What a powerful promise! The blood of Jesus cleanses us from ALL sin. It's not a partial cleaning, no, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Isn't this amazing? We can be fully forgiven and completely cleansed of our sin, because of Jesus' death and his blood shed for us. The blood of Jesus Christ paid the penalty for all our sins – past, present, and future.Main Points:1. It might seem strange to someone who is not a Christian that we as believers talk about, and even sing about, the blood of Jesus. After all, blood is often considered an uncomfortable subject.2. But the reason we are grateful for the blood of Jesus is because of its power. Yes, there is power in the blood of Jesus. It has the power to cleanse us from our sins.3. God wouldn't be just if he winked at our sin, or swept it under the rug. No, justice had to be met. Compelled by his great love for us, Jesus steps in and pays the awful penalty for us. He gave his life for us. He shed his blood for us.Today's Scripture Verses:Ephesians 1:7 - “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.”1 John 1:7 - “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”John 1:29 - “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook GroupLoren Hicks on Instagram
In last week's Words of Grace, we began considering the question: what compels us to worship God? After defining worship from Scripture, we now turn to the ways it is expressed and the motivations behind it. In this message, we explore what it truly means to be sent by God. Being sent starts with an encounter, leads to a response, and is lived out in obedience. Isaiah's experience gives us a clear picture of this calling. 1. Encountering God's Holiness – Isaiah 6:1–5 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up...” The vision of God's glory and the cry of the seraphim — “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts” — shake Isaiah to the core. Understanding God's Holiness: The weight of His presence is undeniable. Recognizing Our Unworthiness: Isaiah says, “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips...” Compelled to Respond: An encounter with God demands a response. 2. Willingness to Go – Isaiah 6:8 God asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Isaiah's response is immediate: “Here am I! Send me.” God's Call: A question still being asked today. Isaiah's Response: Bold, surrendered, and without hesitation. Availability Over Ability: God uses those who are willing, not just those who feel ready. 3. Obedience in Action – 1 Samuel 15:22 “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.” Importance of Obedience: God values our obedience more than our outward offerings. The Cost of Disobedience: Choosing our way over God's comes with consequences. Facing Doubt and Fear: Obedience often challenges us, but it aligns us with God's purpose. This message is a call for all of us—not just to hear God's voice, but to respond.
Gracia Burnham was serving as a missionary in the Philippines when she and her husband, Martin, were kidnapped by Muslim terrorists. They spent over a year in the jungle as hostages enduring hardships of all kinds, including constant shortage of drinking water, near starvation, and 17 gun battles. Even more difficult than the physical challenges were the questions Gracia wrestled with. How could God still love her? How could she forgive those who had so horribly mistreated her? God worked in miraculous ways through Gracia's time in captivity to change her heart, all for His glory. ++++++++++++ Compelled is a seasonal podcast using gripping, immersive storytelling to celebrate the powerful ways God is transforming Christians around the world. Sheila Booth-Alberstadt ignored God for the first 40 years of her life. But after being confronted by His very real existence, she proceeded to treat Him like a genie in a bottle. Yet she was constantly plagued by doubts like: Why couldn't she heal her own children when they were sick? Why couldn't she heal her own body? Why didn't financial prosperity come to her even when she had the “faith” that it should? It eventually all came to a head after she left for the woods to spend time with God seeking answers… when He delivered her from the Prosperity Gospel.
