Tapping for fear and anxiety was my own entry point into EFT almost 20 years ago, when I was struggling with social anxiety. In this post I want to walk you through exactly how I use tapping to right-size fear and anxiety so they stop running the show. The method is simple, it works in the moment, and you can use it the next time worry shows up. TL;DR / Key Takeaways Tapping for fear and anxiety is a process of right-sizing the feeling, not eliminating it, so your alarm system stays accurate instead of overactive. Anxiety is about a threat in the present moment, while fear is about a threat in the future, and naming which one you are facing changes how you approach it. The core method is three rounds of wordless tapping to calm the nervous system, followed by four questions answered out loud while you tap. The four questions are: What could go wrong? What proof do I have? How likely is it? What would I tell a friend? Success means the feeling becomes proportionate to the actual threat, so you can either engage safely with what is in front of you or stay present despite worry about the future. Why Fear and Anxiety Are Not the Enemy Fear and anxiety are not malfunctions; they are your internal guidance system pointing you toward danger so you can stay safe. Every emotion you feel carries specific information about your situation. Frustration signals that a need or desire is not being met. Anger signals that you perceive an attack. Fear and anxiety signal danger. When you understand the information an emotion is carrying, you can respond to it instead of just reacting. That is the whole foundation of using EFT for anxiety effectively. Key insight: "For every single emotion you have, it is your internal guidance system giving you information to navigate the world." The mistake most people make is treating fear and anxiety as enemies to be silenced. They are not. They are messengers. The work is not to fire the messenger but to make sure the message is accurate. What Is the Difference Between Fear and Anxiety? Anxiety is about a threat happening in the present moment, while fear is about a threat located in the future. People often use the words interchangeably, and you do not have to adopt my definitions for the process to work. But making this distinction sharpens how you approach the problem. The reason the distinction matters is that you respond differently to something in your immediate proximity than to something that may happen later. If a threat is right here, you need to handle the thing in front of you. If a threat is in the future, you need to settle yourself so you can stay present now. Key insight: "Anxiety is about the thing that is happening in this particular moment, where fear is about the thing that is in the future." The tapping itself looks identical for both. What changes is the target. Naming whether you are dealing with worry about an uncertain future or a present-moment stressor tells you what you are actually solving for. What Does Success Look Like When Tapping for Anxiety? Success is making the feeling proportionate to the actual threat, not switching it off entirely. Before you tap, it helps to define what a good outcome looks like, because that definition is different for anxiety than it is for fear. When I am anxious, success means the anxiety turns down enough that I can safely engage with the thing in front of me. When I am afraid, success means I turn down the fear of a future event enough to be fully present to what is happening right now. So when I solve the problem of anxiety, I am dealing with the thing I am anxious about. When I solve the problem of fear, I am turning down a future worry so it stops stealing my attention from the present. Defining success this way keeps you honest. You are not chasing a numb, fearless state. You are aiming for a feeling that fits the facts. Why Start With Three Rounds of Wordless Tapping? Start with three rounds of wordless tapping because it downregulates your nervous system and clears your head before you dissect the problem. Wordless tapping simply means moving from each tapping point to the next, tapping six or seven times on each point, without saying anything. Just tapping on the points creates a release and a little bit of calm. That matters because in a moment you are going to start examining the fear and anxiety, and the clearer-headed you are, the easier that examination becomes. The less you are crippled by the feeling, the more successfully you can work with it. Key insight: "The clearer-headed we are as we step into that, the less crippled we are by the fear and the anxiety, the easier it's going to be for us to do that in a really successful way." Do not rush this part. Take nice, easy, deep breaths as you move from point to point. Three slow rounds is enough to settle your system so the four questions land properly. If you want more on this calming-first approach, it pairs well with work on nervous system regulation. The Four Questions to Ask While Tapping for Fear and Anxiety The four questions, answered out loud while you tap, walk you from catastrophizing to a right-sized response. After your three rounds of wordless tapping, you keep moving from point to point and answer each question comprehensively and aloud. By doing this, you are writing the perfect tapping script for the moment in real time. Here are the four questions, in order: What could go wrong? Catastrophize on purpose. Name the worst thing that could happen and narrate it out loud. When I tapped on my social anxiety, mine was that I would say something, someone would think I was stupid, and they would scream at me until I ran and hid. What proof do I have that this could go wrong? Sometimes there is proof, and often there is not. When I examined my social anxiety, I had counter proof: even when I said something silly, people just corrected me or rolled their eyes. This right-sizes the response emotionally. What is the likelihood it will go wrong like this? Something can be possible without being probable. Naming the actual likelihood shrinks the threat down to its true size. What would you tell a friend with this problem? We are very good at giving others advice we cannot hear ourselves. Shifting into that voice unlocks perspective you already have. Key insight: "By answering these four questions, you are writing the perfect tapping script for the moment." Answer all four out loud while tapping and you will be surprised how much safer and more comfortable you feel. This four-question approach is a cousin of the simple in-the-moment methods I teach for recognizing and managing stress quickly. Possibility vs. Probability: Right-Sizing the Threat A threat being possible does not make it probable, and separating the two is what shrinks fear back to a useful size. This is the heart of why the four questions work. Your alarm system tends to treat every possibility as if it were a certainty, and that is what makes fear and anxiety feel so big. Consider my own examples. There is a possibility I could get stuck between two subway stations in New York, but in almost 15 years of living here it has only happened three times. I could be afraid of flying, yet I performed full-time for 25 years and flew millions of miles across the U.S. and Canada without a single incident. Possible, but not probable. Right-sizing does not mean removing the safety mechanism. I have no realistic fear of being attacked by a lion in my Brooklyn neighborhood, even with zoos in Central Park and the Bronx nearby. Tapping that fear down does not mean I will climb into the lion enclosure for a cuddle. It means I can walk my neighborhood, and even visit the zoo, knowing I am safe, while still respecting the fence. We keep the protective function and discard the distortion. How to Get Started Tapping for Fear and Anxiety Today To start tapping for fear and anxiety, identify whether your feeling is about the present or the future, then run three rounds of wordless tapping followed by the four questions. The whole process can take just a few minutes and requires nothing but your hands and a little honesty. Here is the sequence in full: Notice the feeling and name whether it is anxiety (present) or fear (future). Tap three slow, wordless rounds, six or seven taps per point, breathing deeply. Answer out loud while tapping: What could go wrong? Answer out loud: What proof do I have it will go wrong? Answer out loud: How likely is it to go wrong like this? Answer out loud: What would I tell a friend facing this? The aim is always proportion, not numbness. You are not eliminating fear and anxiety; you are making them well-informed so they protect you without paralyzing you. If you want to keep building this skill day by day, my 365 Tapping Lessons program gives you a short, guided tapping practice for every day of the year. Frequently Asked Questions What is the difference between fear and anxiety in tapping? In this approach, anxiety is about a threat in the present moment and fear is about a threat in the future. The tapping looks the same, but naming which one you face tells you whether you are working to engage safely now or to stay present despite future worry. Does tapping work for anxiety? Tapping helps turn anxiety down to a proportionate level so you can safely engage with whatever is in front of you. In my experience over nearly 20 years, the goal is not to erase anxiety but to make it accurate, so it informs you without overwhelming you. What are the four questions to ask when tapping for fear? The four questions, answered out loud while tapping, are: What could go wrong? What proof do I have that it could go wrong? How likely is it to go wrong like this? What would I tell a friend with this problem? What is wordless tapping and why do it first? Wordless tapping means moving from point to point, tapping six or seven times on each, without speaking. Doing three rounds first downregulates your nervous system and clears your head, which makes the four-question process far more effective. How do I stop catastrophizing about the future? Catastrophize on purpose first by naming the worst case out loud, then ask what proof you actually have and how likely it really is. Separating what is possible from what is probable shrinks the imagined threat back to its true size. Is the goal of tapping to get rid of fear completely? No. The goal is to make fear proportionate and well-informed, not to eliminate it. Fear is a safety mechanism, so the work is keeping its protective function while discarding the distortion that makes it disproportionate. Can I use this tapping process for any worry? Yes. The same three rounds of wordless tapping and the same four questions work whether the worry is about a present situation or a future event. You simply aim the process at the specific thing you are anxious or afraid about.

What do you do when life feels uncertain? Most of us rush to fill the gap, don't we – reaching for our phones, searching for answers, reassurance, distraction, or control. But what if some of the most significant moments of faith are found not in escaping feelings of uncertainty… but in learning how to lean into them? Pastor Louis continues our ‘Faith for Freedom' series by exploring Jesus' invitation in the Sermon on the Mount not to worry. Together, we'll wrestle with the tension between uncertainty and trust, and discover how God meets us in the unknown. Because peace is not found in having all the answers. It's found in knowing who holds your past, present, and future.

What if the anxiety you feel isn't just about the headlines, but about control? In Ecclesiastes 9, we're confronted with a sobering truth, life is unpredictable, and we are not in charge. So why do we keep spinning on the wheel of “Am I getting it right?” or “When is it going to happen?” The Preacher shows us a surprising way forward, not through denial, but through surrender and enjoyment. What if fighting fear begins with trusting God's sovereignty and rediscovering joy in His ordinary gifts?Scripture: Ecclesiastes 9:1-12 ESV

Fear shows up in many forms—panic attacks, self-doubt, trauma responses, or everyday anxiety. In this episode of Ask Dr. E, Dr. Michael Easley responds to a listener's honest question: What is the best way for believers to overcome fear? Dr. Easley offers a thoughtful, biblically grounded response that acknowledges the complexity of fear. Some fear requires professional counseling. Some fear is rooted in trauma. And some fear must be confronted through renewed thinking shaped by Scripture. These approaches aren't in conflict—they work together. Drawing from passages like Joshua 1, Romans 12, and Psalm 27, Dr. Easley reminds us that God commands courage not because we are strong—but because we are often weak and afraid. Fear is not a failure of faith; it is a shared human condition. And God meets us there. This episode offers clarity, compassion, and practical steps for believers who want real help—not clichés—when fear feels overwhelming. Blocks Creating Fear and Anxiety | 5-Minute Energy Clearing Release the energetic blocks that keep fear and anxiety active in your system. This powerful 5-minute clearing targets the root causes of persistent worry, anxiety, and fear that don't respond to traditional coping methods. What This Clearing Releases: • Energetic blocks creating chronic anxiety and worry • Fear patterns running in the background of your life • Subconscious programming that keeps you in fight-or-flight • Past trauma and experiences still triggering fear responses • Ancestral and past-life fear imprints • The energetic charge of "what if" thinking • Hypervigilance and constant scanning for danger Perfect For: Anyone who feels anxious even when life is going well, coaches and healers who know they "shouldn't" be anxious but still are, or anyone tired of managing anxiety instead of actually releasing it. If you've done the inner work but fear still activates in your body, this clearing addresses the energetic component. How to Use This Clearing: Simply listen with an open mind. You don't need to be in a meditative state or do anything special. The energy clearing works whether you're relaxing, working, or going about your day. Many people notice a sense of calm and groundedness after listening. Use as often as needed—energy clears in layers. What Changes After Clearing: You'll likely notice your nervous system settling—less reactivity to triggers, fewer racing thoughts, and a general sense of safety in your body. The constant background hum of anxiety often quiets significantly. You may find yourself naturally less worried about things that used to consume your thoughts. This clearing uses the Eraser Method™ to neutralize the energetic charge of fear and anxiety at the subconscious level, allowing your nervous system to finally relax. Today we are talking about our power and authority as Christians. And how with those things, we can then go lay hands on the sick and see them recover and also see people delivered from demonic oppression. God never calls us to do something without first equipping us to do this and Matthew 10 is very clear that we have the authority to do these things but also that we are commanded as Christians to heal the sick, raise the dead, heal the lepers and cast out demons. You'll hear today:What to say to get a demon to leave according to Jesus' example of doing this found in the Bible (and what they might do but why you don't need to be afraid)A recent personal story of experiencing an attack of a spirit of fear and what I said to get it to leave right awaySigns what you are feeling is a spirit of fear and not anxietyA simplified approach to praying for the sickPast episodes mentioned:How to Practically Share Your Faith (and talk about God with others)Corresponding episodes: When Your Heart Hurts (Emotional Healing 101)Praying in Tongues Helps me with Anxiety (it's a VERY healthy habit!)Jesus Wants You Free of Anxiety (Bible Based Advice that Has Worked for Me)Connect with Nyla:IGWebsiteNyla's second podcast, On the Job with God Christian Business Podcast

We're bringing back a fan favorite episode from the Buddhism for Everyone archives with an exploration of fear, anxiety, and bravery. Fearlessness is often spoken of in Buddhist teachings, but here we go beyond the idea of simply “being brave” to uncover how the Buddha understood fear itself. Together, we'll look at what causes fear, the antidotes that dissolve it, and how we can tap into the quiet courage already within us. In Buddhism, there is a distinction between skillful fear and unskillful fear. Skillful fear can protect us. An example of skilful fear is noticing a subway train barreling down the tracks and stepping back. But unskillful fear? That's the kind that traps us, limits us, and leads to actions that cause suffering. In this beloved episode, we explore unskillful fear and how to meet it with wisdom, compassion, and practical tools for everyday life. We also examine the common forms unskillful fear takes, such as: Fear of things that may or may not happen Fear of the inevitable changes of life, like aging Fear for the safety or happiness of those we love This episode has been replayed again and again by listeners who say it's brought them peace, clarity, and even a little spark of bravery. The grip of fear and anxiety has tightened around countless lives today—even among believers. What does it look like to break free? Join hosts John Martin and Valerie Peterson as they continue their heartfelt, practical discussion on overcoming these powerful emotions."False evidence appearing real." This simple acronym for fear reveals how deceptive our anxious thoughts can be. Throughout this conversation, John and Valerie offer transformative strategies for shifting the seesaw of emotions—when faith rises, fear naturally falls. They explain how thanksgiving acts as spiritual armor against anxiety, sharing the powerful truth from Philippians 4 about bringing everything to God with gratitude. For those struggling with persistent worry, they distinguish between experiencing the emotion of fear versus living under a spirit of fear. The hosts tackle difficult questions head-on: Why do traumatic experiences trigger anxiety years later? How can we identify the "why behind the what" of our anxious responses? When bad news arrives, what scripture can anchor our hearts? Their honest admissions about their own battles with fear create a judgment-free space for listeners facing similar struggles. Most powerfully, they share Ralph Waldo Emerson's profound wisdom: "Do the thing you fear most and the fear will leave you." This courage to act despite discomfort—to do it afraid—often becomes the pathway to freedom. Whether you're paralyzed by anxiety or simply seeking greater peace, this episode provides both compassionate understanding and practical tools for standing steadfast when life feels overwhelming. Listen, apply these principles, and discover how to manage your emotions rather than letting them manage you.For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com
Fear and anxiety touch all our lives, yet many of us—even believers—find ourselves trapped in their grip despite knowing God calls us to peace. In this heartfelt conversation, hosts John Martin and Valerie Peterson share their personal journeys with anxiety while offering practical biblical solutions for breaking free."I've had anxiety in my past, even anxiety where it was crippling me," John confesses, immediately creating a safe space for listeners struggling with similar experiences. This raw honesty sets the tone for an episode that doesn't simply offer platitudes but acknowledges the very real battle many face daily. The hosts explore the fundamental spiritual dynamics behind anxiety—the tension between trust and control. Drawing from Scripture passages like Matthew 6:25-34 and Philippians 4:6-7, they reveal how God's word directly addresses our tendency to worry about tomorrow. Valerie shares a powerful insight: "I'll take life half hour by half hour. Sometimes even a day is hard to do," demonstrating that overcoming anxiety is often a moment-by-moment practice rather than an instant transformation. What sets this episode apart is its practical approach. Beyond encouraging prayer, the hosts outline specific strategies: developing a daily intimate relationship with God, consciously inviting the Holy Spirit into daily decisions, renewing your mind through Scripture meditation, joining supportive small groups, and seeking professional counseling when needed. Each recommendation comes with personal testimony about its effectiveness, offering listeners not just theory but tested pathways to peace. The conversation culminates with a profound observation about heaven—that we may one day regret all the time wasted in worry and fear when we see God's perfect plan revealed. This eternal perspective invites listeners to begin releasing anxiety today, trusting that the God who sees "the entire parade" of our lives is working even when we can only see today's circumstances.Ready to break free from the cycle of fear and anxiety? Listen now and discover how to experience the peace that surpasses understanding, even in our increasingly uncertain world. For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com
What if the path to peace isn't avoiding hardship, but embracing it? In this episode, we explore what it means to “love the mat”—to welcome the falls, failures, and discomforts that come with a life of faith and growth. Drawing from scripture and insights from psychologist Reid Wilson, we see that real strength is formed not in comfort, but in repeated encounters with challenge. Jesus never promised we wouldn't hit the mat—He promised we wouldn't be alone. When we stop fearing failure and start trusting His presence in the middle of it, we begin to live with an untroubled heart.Join the conversation in our FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1CnqywVp9s/Become New is here to help you grow spiritually one day at a time.John's new book STEPS is out!
