Our 4th episode features ‘world schoolers'. Olga, raised in Russia , discusses how it was to unschool her three children in Scotland and then full-timing in a campervan for months in Europe as a single mother holding down an online coaching business. She talks to me about her introduction to unschooling through attachment parenting and how her confidence grew over the years and how she now considers her family ‘world schoolers'. She found that although they may acquire their milestone skills later in life when they are in control of their time and choices, it is with a wholehearted passion. The three children have independently chosen to attend courses in subjects such as programming, game design, science and maths club at Galileo: a ‘global school for 8-18 year-old self-directed learners'. Leo, her 11 year old son, talks about how much he enjoys it. He talks about how he feels about being a homeschooler and how he can't imagine ever wanting to go to school. Books that we mention include: The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedloff Radical Unschooling by Dayna Martin Green parenting magazine How Children Fail by John Holt Growing without schooling website The Big book of Unschooling by Sandra Dodd

What do families gain from an unschooling lifestyle that goes beyond providing a natural learning environment? I asked Sandra Dodd to talk about the differences between unschooling and other education alternatives. Today she touches on the parent-child bond, the parents’ learning, honoring human instincts, respecting the rhythm of a child’s whole life and making a relationship investment that lasts a lifetime. In short: unschooling is more than an educational alternative. It is a lifestyle that promotes a child’s wellbeing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
What is unschooling? How does it work? And why do families choose this path? Today’s star-studded cast includes Jan Hunt, Kelly Lovejoy, Jerry Mintz, Idzie Desmarais. Carsie Blanton, Michelle Loucas, Sandra Dodd and Nikiah Childs.
Sandra Dodd always unschooled her kids. Now they’re all grown up and independent, and Sandra spends her time writing and talking about unschooling and about how people learn. Several years ago Sandra started a “holiday for unschoolers” on her birthday - July 24. This special day is called Learn Nothing Day. Since unschoolers create a world for their kids where learning can happen all day every day, there are no school vacations and no days off from learning. Except on Learn Nothing Day. The problem is, Learn Nothing Day is usually a complete flop.
Join me as I speak with my guest Sandra Dodd about her life unschooling her mostly grown now kids. She is the author of the Radical Unschooling website, the inventor of Learn Nothing Day and a tireless champion for respectful parenting.
