What is it about a new year that sends me deep into my productivity feels? ‘Tis the (well-marketed) season for shiny new projects over thoughtful annual assessment. For tidal waves of bigger! better! concepts vs. gentler tides of introspection. So, who else besides me needs a life vest to keep from drowning under a productivity deluge? Truth: I have a complicated relationship with productivity. Sarah Steckler feels our pain. She's a productivity strategist and educator who helps folks bring more intention and awareness to their personal, professional, and creative mindsets via courses, planners, and weekly newsletters. Sarah's also the host of the Mindful Productivity Podcast, on which she breaks down proven productivity skills and entrepreneurial organization strategies into totally doable, sustainable habits. Sarah reminds us to take the smaller steps when we're feeling overwhelmed by productivity adrenaline, especially the tasks that have seemingly little direct impact on our larger aspirations. Eventually, they will. Being more productive doesn't necessarily mean doing more stuff, says Sarah. “It's doing less, more effectively, right?” MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE PE079: Better goal setting for podcasters with Kelly Covert CONNECT WITH SARAH STECKLER Website Podcast Instagram Twitter Facebook *** Get the full show notes including links to shows and episodes referenced at: https://www.podcastenvy.com I'd love to hear your thoughts and questions! Energy management is the unsung hero when we're searching for better “time management” because when we have the same amount of time, we need to pay attention to what we do in that time and our energy is directly linked to that. This week, episode 106 of the Positively Living Podcast is about choosing what energizes you through mindfulness. In this episode of the Positively Living Podcast, my guest Sarah Steckler shares the power our thoughts have and she provides actionable steps you can take right now to integrate this idea of intentional, energy driven productivity that leaves you feeling both grounded and connected to yourself. Sarah and I cover the following topics:An intentional productivity practice that keeps your energy, capacity, and intentions in mind that fills the gaps where the ideas drawn from corporate hustle were lacking. How being present in the moment directly influences your life. Paying attention to what drives, drains, and produces your energy. Letting go of guilt by getting curious. Journaling to do a daily structured brain dump so you can intentionally capture your ideas and hold space for your thoughts. 1 question and 1 action that will help us identify our energy management needs and find the clarity necessary to focus and be truly productive. It is important to remember that our mindset constantly needs tending and that by being present and noticing our energy, we can begin to restructure our life to work in this ebb and flow and avoid burnout. Just like the angels and other spirit guides can support your Purification and decluttering process, so too can the animals. “All animals and insects – whether two- or multi-legged, feathered or finned, from water, earth or sky – have the potential to deliver a special message aligned with your authentic need, arriving at just the right time or place.” Colette Baron-Reid, creator of The Spirit Animal Oracle In this episode, I share my own experience of connecting with a spirit animal, and how that animal informs and supports Purifying. This animal carries the spirit and essence of Purification. You can lean into its energy anytime! (Give the episode a listen to discover what it is.) Here are some steps for connecting with your Purification spirit animal: Meditate or pray for guidance and connection with the ideal animal to support your process Pay attention when you’re in nature to what animals you are drawn to Feel into the message this animal is sending you. Our personal papers (notebooks, journals, scrap paper, post-it notes, etc.) are where we capture thoughts, emotions, memories, quotes, lists, ideas, and more. When our papers become disorganized or we have simply accumulated a LOT of them, it can start to feel like we're drowning in paper. Or, as the listener who suggested this topic for the podcast shared, "I am drowning in my own words!" Today I'll share a few ways that we can address the personal paper flow from 2 perspectives: 1. Stemming the flow of papers coming in (or that we're creating) by using mindfulness and creating new systems. 2. Purifying the accumulated papers by committing time to sitting with them and using clarifying questions to determine what stays and what gets recycled. To be added to the Let's Purify! email list and receive your PDF of the 15 Clarity-Boosting Questions, simply click here and enter your name and email address. You'll receive two versions: one has explanations with each question and the other is consolidated with just the questions themselves. I hope it's helpful as you're sorting through your personal papers and beyond! If you're having trouble keeping your digital papers organized and efficient, consider listening to episode 013 Digital Decluttering with Sarah Steckler for some inspiration! In a future episode, I'll be addressing administrative papers like tax returns, bank statements, paid bills, legal documents, etc. Stay tuned! Thank you to the listener who shared this episode idea and for sharing your experience with your papers! If you have a topic idea for The Let's Purify! Sarah Steckler: After a cross country move, Sarah was surprised to notice a shift in her moods. Things got progressively worse. She describes her desire to “get better,” to overcome her debilitating depression, and her desire to make change happen. Sarah now channels her experience to help others through depression, as well as other challenges, without judgement. Q & A Why is self love important to you? Self love is important to me because it’s all about building awareness with yourself. It’s really developing a relationship with yourself. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? I think it was that I didn’t need it, that it was kind of fluffy. . . that I was tough enough that I didn’t need to take care of myself that way. Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? It sounds cliché, but it has to be, and is, my husband. What is the best advice you have ever received? My dad always told me that in life, there are a lot of different decisions you have to make. He always told me it’s okay to make different decisions in life, as long as it’s not something that crushes your soul. What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is something I listen to while I am working or when I am trying to fall asleep. There are videos on You Tube. I highly recommend searching for Gentle Whispering. She’s a great place to start. Do you have a favorite quote? “We must embrace pain, and burn it as fuel for our journey.” Kenji Miyazawa What book are you reading right now? The Opposite of Love, by Julie Buxbaum. What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? Learning and reading. Happy Monday Couragemakers! I am so excited to share with you this week's episode of Couragemakers! For this week's episode, I sat down and had a good natter with Sarah Steckler. Sarah is a Creative Self-Love Coach who helps women take control of their lives by taking care of themselves. As a writer, journal lover, and creatively obsessed sticker collector, she loves to spend her free time wandering through nature and forest bathing, cuddling up with her English Bulldog, and planning her next Netflix binge! In this episode, Sarah shares her journey of how creativity helped her learn to love herself, how her life has changed now she has become more intentional about her creativity and self love and how struggling is part of the process. We really dive into how showing up as yourself can be a struggle, how giving yourself permission to have bad days can make all the difference and how important it is to find something we love that isn't for anyone but ourselves. Sarah shares great advice for anyone looking to add more creativity and self love to their life, great practical self care for people doing their own thing and really helpful words of wisdom for creative women who struggle with their mental health. This is also a great episode if you struggle with your mental health and want to use creativity as a way to help you, if you often find yourself thinking that doing things for yourself is selfish, and if you need the reminder that what you have to put in the world is pretty damn important. I really loved my conversation with Sarah and finding out more about her journey and the work she's putting in the world. As creative people, it can be so hard to remember that while our creativity gives so much to the world, it gives so much to ourselves as well, and I'm so glad Sarah reminded us of that today. Enjoy the show! About Sarah Sarah is a Creative Self-Love Coach who helps women take control of their lives by taking care of themselves. When I'm not recording episodes and making new friends with the wonderful guests, you can find me working on all manners of magic over at That Hummingbird Life, sending free self care checks ins to hundreds of women every Sunday and helping my clients build brands they love as a graphic designer. I'm currently on a 3 month road trip of the US with Mr. Meg but normally based in the UK. That Hummingbird Life | Twitter | Pinterest |

Why is it so hard to take time for self-care? When living with pain, it can feel like all we do is think about how we want to feel better, but do we actually make caring for our bodies a priority? Unfortunately, self-care is often placed on the bottom of our to-do lists, which only results in an increase in pain. But it doesn’t have to be so hard. Join Shelly in this week’s episode for a conversation about self-care and self-love with Sarah Steckler, a creative self-love coach. This episode will discuss why it can be a challenge to make time for self-care, and will provide practical and easy to manage tips for making self-care a constant in your daily routine.
