Mister Productivity Mark Struczewski In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, finding a balance between our personal and professional responsibilities can often seem like an insurmountable challenge. The constant stream of tasks and distractions and interruptions that can leave us feeling overwhelmed,  drained and that are robbing us of the clarity and focus we need to thrive. But our guest today is a guiding light in the world of productivity who specializes in helping individuals, just like you and I, to cut through the noise and to transform the way you approach your day. Mark Struczewski, affectionately known as "Mister Productivity™," has years of experience as a productivity coach. Mark brings a fresh approach to your daily grind. He's not just about managing tasks, he helps you to reframe how you view and handle your day. This ultimately leads you to a more productive and fulfilling life.  He is also an author of a few books, one of them is “How to Overcome Roadblocks on the Path to Your Success” and is available on Amazon…In his time with us today, he will fill us in a few ways to make our days more productive in this distraction filled world. Amen! In addition, Mark, in his own words, is “Sold out for Jesus!” Mark has been on our program before, it's been a couple of years – but he's back today! Help me welcome back to the program, Mr. Productivity himself, Mark Struczewski! Mark, it's good to talk with you again. It's been a little while! The last time you were on was 2019… way back about episode 578 or something. That was almost 900 episodes ago.  I know there has been a lot going on since then… so let's get started with this question I always ask first… For those that may not have heard our first conversation, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Mark Struczewski?” Let's catch up a little bit… how did you first get started in becoming a “productivity expert?” When someone reaches out to you, and they ask, “How can I become more productive?”  I know that is a big, open ended question…so how do you try and narrow them down?  What kind of questions should they already be asking themselves in this area? Let me ask you this – what are the Top 3 strategies YOU USE to help you achieve more in your own business?  I think that will shed some light for some of us to evaluate where we are at in our own self evaluations. What are some of the things you learned, over the years of doing this, that you wish you would have known when you started and that you try to pass along to your clients? I know everybody asks you about the good stuff.  But, as we get ready to wrap up, tell us about something that did not go the way “Mr. Productivity” figured it would – and what you learned from that? You also have a podcast, the “Mr. Productivity Podcast.”  What do you share on that program? Before we run out of time, let's talk about your coaching program. How are helping others to do everything we just talked about?  Getting to be more productive in their life and business? Mark, this has been so good and I'm so blessed we were able to catch up. Is there anything you would like to say to our listeners before we close? If someone has a question or would like more information on your coaching program or the podcast or anything we have...

In this episode, I delve into the concept of overcoming overwhelm and mastering productivity. Mark Struczewski (The Mister Productivity Podcast Host), a seasoned productivity coach, shares his insights and practical tips for leading a more productive and less overwhelmed life.Mark's path to becoming a productivity coach began in his structured childhood home. With parents instilling discipline and structure, he was taught the importance of completing chores and homework before engaging in leisure activities like watching his favourite TV show, MASH. This upbringing laid the foundation for his natural inclination towards productivity. Thanks for reading Superpowers School! Subscribe to support my work. The Battle Against OverwhelmMark believes overwhelm is a self-created problem exacerbated by gadgets and distractions. He reminisces about a simpler time before the advent of smartphones and the internet, highlighting how these technologies, while beneficial, have contributed significantly to our current state of constant overwhelm.Practical Tips for Overcoming Distractions* Exercise Self-Control with Gadgets: Challenge yourself to watch an entire TV program without reaching for your phone. This exercise helps you become more aware of your dependence on devices.* Make Conscious Choices: Decide to take control over your devices instead of letting them control you. This could mean turning off your phone or utilizing focus modes to limit distractions.* Notification Cleanse: Go through your apps and turn off unnecessary notifications. Customize your notification settings to serve you better, not distract you.* Disable Vibration Mode: This prevents the constant checking of your phone every time you feel a buzz, which often leads to unnecessary distractions.* Physical Separation from Devices: If your phone is a major distraction, keep it out of sight when focusing on a task.* Use of Analog Productivity Tools: Mark recommends using a simple pad of paper for jotting down tasks and interruptions, helping to maintain focus on the current task.Multitasking and Work OverwhelmMark emphasizes the fallacy of multitasking, suggesting that it's more effective to focus on one task at a time. To manage work overwhelm, he advises against jumping between tasks. Instead, he suggests bringing a task to a sensible stopping point before shifting focus.Embracing the Journey of Learning and GrowthMark underscores the importance of loving what you do. He believes happiness and productivity go hand in hand. As for staying relevant and informed, he advocates for reading as a daily non-negotiable activity. Final Thoughts and ResourcesTo combat overwhelm and boost productivity, Mark recommends resources like "Tiny Habits" by B.J. Fogg and the UGMONK analog productivity system. He also highlights ReadWise, a service that revisits Kindle highlights. In conclusion, Mark's story and advice offer a practical roadmap to reclaiming control over our lives from the clutches of overwhelm and distraction. By embracing discipline, making conscious choices, and focusing on what truly brings joy, we can navigate the complexities of the modern world more effectively and productively.Chapters:[00:00:00] Introduction: The Shrinking Attention Span [00:00:31] The Age of Infobesity and Overwhelm [00:01:07] Introducing the Guest: Mark Struczewski [00:01:45] The Importance of Human Skills in an Automated World [00:02:02] Understanding the Origins of Our Names [00:03:31] The Superpower of Overcoming Overwhelm [00:04:00] Mark's Journey into Productivity [00:04:31] The Impact of Structure and Discipline [00:06:49] The Influence of Technology on Overwhelm [00:08:56] The Challenge of Watching TV without Distractions [00:10:21] The Problem of Multitasking and Overwhelm at Work [00:10:32] Strategies to Overcome Overwhelm [00:21:01] The Role of Research in Understanding Overwhelm [00:22:51] Introduction to Cal Newport and His Work [00:23:08] Choosing to Opt-Out of Social Media Overwhelm [00:23:25] The Dangers of Endless Scroll Social Media [00:23:44] The Future of Technology and Its Impact on Our Lives [00:24:17] The Joy of Learning and the Problem with Shortcuts [00:24:34] The Love for Physical Books and the Shift to Digital Reading [00:25:21] The Role of Audible Books in Learning [00:27:25] The Importance of Reading and Continuous Learning [00:28:16] The Importance of Reading in Becoming a Good Conversationalist [00:28:51] The Power of Deep Work [00:30:16] The Joy of Being a Solopreneur [00:30:28] Advice for Those Starting Their Career [00:30:37] The Role of Happiness in Productivity [00:32:20] The Joy of Podcasting [00:38:09] The Role of Social Media in Productivity [00:40:08] The Love for Football and Its Impact on Productivity [00:42:59] Conclusion and Final Thoughts Mark Struczewski (The Mister Productivity Podcast Host)Hey! Joining me this time on the Productivity Podcast is Dr. Don Davis, author, and established coach & consultant for businesses in the healthcare and life sciences industries. A big proponent of daily routines and time blocking, Dr. Don starts off his day by meditating and journaling to close out the previous day and prepare for what's coming. While it may sound weird to you to close a day in the morning of the next day, this is what works for him and it's something that everyone has to take into account when building up a daily routine. There are a lot of different routines that big names like Cal Newport follow that work for them, but that doesn't mean that they will work for YOU—trust me on this one, I've tried... You need to find something that works for you instead of trying to force yourself to follow a routine that was not meant for you. Dr. Don shared several great methods to deal with over-commitment, focus, and goal setting in this episode of the podcast. My personal favorites are the “DARE” method (listen and find out more!) as well as time blocking with color coding to show how much time you're putting towards your goals. There are many great actionable nuggets in the episode, and with all of his experience helping others, I highly suggest checking out Don's book (link below), website, and more. How can time blocking be a thing that really helps us amplify our productivity without leaving us at the bottom of the pile? Today I am flipping the mic on myself and sharing with you an interview I did with the incredible Sarah Dalton. Sarah is the founder of Your Simply Big Life, which is an online community that empowers women to step out of the overwhelm and take ownership for their day. Her mission is to help busy moms make the most of their time and energy so that they can go after their big goals and be present for their family. Sarah and I connected when I did this interview for her show and it was so much fun. I loved talking with her and we had a great conversation about this topic of how do we use time blocking to make us more present and intentional? Listen in on this interview I did, on Sarah's podcast, which is called the Peace and Productivity Podcast.   The 15 Minute Formula Book by: Cara Harvey https://apurposedrivenmom.com/book FREE GOAL SETTING SERIES: https://apurposedrivenmom.com/goals A PURPOSE-DRIVEN MOM SHOW NOTES: apurposedrivenmom.com/podcast274

We often dream up our businesses based on a passion or an innate talent, only to realize afterward that we're neck-deep in back-end details for which we're not prepared. Enter Brittany Dixon, organizer extraordinaire. A productivity coach and host of The Productivity Podcast, she is on a mission to help creative business owners work smarter, not harder! On this episode of Teacher Turned Entrepreneur we are learning how Brittany found her calling and the systems she has put in place to support her own successful business – systems she's sharing with others through her group and one-to-one coaching, courses, podcast and growing community. The goal is simple: To create support systems that free us up to stay in the “zone of genius.” You'll learn from Brittany some concrete tips for identifying process breakdowns, optimizing through automation and outsourcing essential functions as you scale. If your entrepreneurial dreams are being slowed down by common stumbling blocks like digital clutter, difficulty with time management or back-end admin processes then this is the conversation for you! It's all about quieting the noise so you can focus on what fuels your best ideas and clearest thoughts. With tools like her BCO Method and ROAD to Scalability, Brittany brings actionable frameworks that will resonate with any entrepreneur tempted to say “yes” to everything only to be left scrambling to keep up with all the moving parts that result! Getting organized needn't be overwhelming, thanks to Brittany's step-by-step approach. “We've got some pretty well-oiled systems in place,” she says, “and once you've got those systems in place you don't need as many people to manage it.” Want to learn more about Brittany and the tools, templates and accountability she provides? Check out this link for her Productivity Community and much more. Click here to listen to, rate and review this or previous Teacher Turned Entrepreneur episodes. Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· Never discount side hustles – whose momentum often turns them into the main event!· Have you identified your Superpower? Everyone has one and it's the natural point of entry for would-be entrepreneurs looking to leverage their innate talents!· Stay focused on the big picture! It's easy to get overwhelmed with the day-to-day, so why not let an expert establish systems and expedite your basic back-end processes?· It's okay to say no. When it comes to our businesses, every opportunity can be exciting but additional, time-consuming back-end management has to be factored in.· Calendar everything! That means family/self-care priorities as well as business imperatives and daily routines that keep the whole life-work enterprise afloat.· Digital Clutter doesn't develop into a problem overnight – nor can it be magically erased! It takes time and a strategy.· Less is More: Having a structure for online folders is important, but keep it simple and manageable. An over-engineered system can defeat the purpose and prevent filing.· Hiring contractors is easier than ever! So consider keeping it simple by outsourcing rather than scaling full-time staff.· Before considering automation, be sure that your processes are operating smoothly. When you automate broken pieces, you're creating broken systems. Here's a quick look into the episode:· As so often is the case, Brittany got active as an entrepreneur after she was let go from her 9-to-5 – “best thing that ever happened.” She was working in the catering and event space with young twin girls when she decided to add a side hustle as a home organizer that in the course of a year turned into her full-time gig.· After reading "Ordinary Superpowers: Unleash the Full Potential of Your Most Natural Talents," Brittany realized that her “little” side hustle had tremendous potential!· From its inception in 2017, Brittany's business has grown exponentially based on her ever deeper understanding of the “back end stuff” that was keeping online businesses, consultants, coaches and others from growing their enterprises.· The kinds of things Brittany helps clients figure out:o Time management.o Productivity.o Email and digital file organization.o Client onboarding.o Assembling and running a team.· Brittany works with her clients via:o Her Productivity Podcast.o Her Productivity Pod community.o Group coaching through her Hustle to Flow program, including materials and group calls.o One-to-one coaching/consulting that pinpoints and overhauls business pain points.· The things that tend to be the biggest client stumbling blocks:o Time management is a consistent baseline issue because of all the moving parts.o Client processes: Ensuring smooth onboarding, offboarding and overall management of relationships. o Digital Clutter: Cutting through the avalanche of data coming in and going out.· Brittany's Top Tips for Mapping Effective Time Management Systems:o Lifestyle By Design: What are your goals for family time? Figure out commitments to kids, spouse, self-care, then put then on the calendar!o Business By Design: You can't say yes to everything. Beyond the things you want to do are all the ancillary functions that also require time and attention – things like marketing, admin, back-end email management require scheduling.o Routines By Design: Establishing personal best practices sets you up for flow and rhythm in all realms. So calendar your priorities, then stick to them!· For Digital Clutter, which is a scourge familiar to all entrepreneurs, Brittany deploys her BCO Framework to manage files, time blocking, strategy and other functions:o Business Development: How you're growing the business.o Client Services: Everything you're providing your customer base.o Operations: All the admin that supports the whole enterprise.· Strategies for cleaning up BCO backlogs and data:o Set up a folder structure and start dragging files where they need to be.o Sort different functions into categories that make the big picture clearer.o Beware: Don't overwhelm yourself with too many sub-file folders!· How Brittany runs her own business:o She has only contractors; not FTEs and no plans to onboard any.o An online business manager keeps Brittany on track with strategy and processes.o A podcast manager takes care of her production and support.o A bookkeeper takes care of accounting.o A booker promotes Brittany's appearances as a podcast guest.· About Brittany's ROAD to Scalability:o Recognize: Evaluate what's working and what isn't.o Optimize: Ensure that systems offer ROI, are standardized and streamlined.o Automation: Are the tasks you do on a routine basis integrated into systems?o Documentation: Keep roadmaps for back-end processes that anyone who joins the team can easily follow or replicate.· Brittany's Recommended Reading:"Ordinary Superpowers: Unleash the Full Potential of Your Most Natural Talents," by Mark Henson.o "The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage," by Mel Robbins.
