For fans og følgere af FC Midtjylland er sæsonen 2013/14 måske den værste sæson nogensinde. En af dem til glemmebogen, arkiveret under ”fortrængning”. Blot tre runder før tid lå klubben til et meget overraskende dansk mesterskab. Alligevel blev det hele tabt på gulvet til sidst i en gigantisk og spektakulær nedtur. For de som var tæt på klubben den sæson, blev det et brutalt crash kursus i den svære kunst at vinde. Tag med en tur ad den snoede og bumpede mindernes allé, sammen med de personer, som oplevede det. Til en verden før Smartodds, men til den klub som Matthew Benham så som det perfekte sted, for realisering af sine vidtgående ideer. Og hør hvorfor ingen af de involverede, trods nederlaget og smerten, ville være oplevelsen foruden. For det var netop i sæsonen 13/14, at det sejrsvante og selvtillidsfulde FC Midtjylland som vi kender i dag, blev skabt. Episodio 2. I Research Analyst di Soccerment, Luca Minotti e Niccolò Golinelli, discutono di come tre club europei sono riusciti a costruire vantaggio competitivo grazie all'analisi dati. L'AZ Alkmaar utilizza l'analisi dati principalmente nello sviluppo dei talenti. Grazie a ciò, riescono a competere a livello nazionale e internazionale, nonostante un budget molto più basso rispetto ai loro concorrenti. L'FC Midtjylland, di proprietà di Matthew Benham (fondatore di Smartodds e proprietario del Brentford), basa la propria competitività sulla capacità dei manager di intercettare i talenti grazie all'utilizzo di statistiche avanzate. Infine, il Liverpool Football Club ha combinato l'analisi dei dati con un budget già strutturalmente importante: un mix "esplosivo" che consente ai Reds di dominare la scena calcistica europea. Per quanto riguarda l'analisi dati, va sottolineato che negli ultimi anni Liverpool ha creato una vera "squadra dei sogni", con quattro scienziati.
