Courtney & André react to THEE Orlando Pride's historic season that ended with them becoming the second ever club to win the Shield and Championship in the same season. We talk about seeing what they were building, doing it for Marta, the greatness of Barbra Banda, and Black coaches. Then we look at the rest of the NWSL awards and discuss Croix Bethune's absurd season and Temwa Chawinga wrecking the league in her debut year. We also look ahead to the USWNT's upcoming friendlies versus England and Netherlands. André is frustrated at the impending 'Horan at the 10' thing, while both of us hope Lily Yohannes gets substantial minutes as the box-to-box midfielder we've been missing. Then we finally do a Heated & Hyped segment, and it's an important one. Courtney addresses the gross gross and journalistically anti-factual and harmful Telegraph piece, while André sheds light on a piece by Shireen Ahmed calling out women's soccer over their silence on the suffering in Gaza. The Women's National Basketball Association has been around for 30 years now, but has long struggled to stand out in an increasingly busy marketplace. Just before Clark's professional debut with the Indiana Fever, CBC's Shireen Ahmed joins the show to discuss the WNBA's talismanic star, what some are referring to as a 'golden age' for women's basketball, and Canada's role in it all.

Off the top, Sean and Chelsea chat about the Olynyk extension, why it makes a lot of sense for the Raptors, and why it validates the decision to trade for the previously pending UFA at the NBA Trade Deadline. Next, they discuss Scottie Barnes' undergoing hand surgery in Los Angeles and why it almost surely spells the end of his season. Plus, how irritating is it that he finished the year averaging 19.9 points per game? Lastly, Sean and Chelsea dig into the reporting on Larry Tanenbaum reviving the bid for a Toronto expansion franchise in the WNBA via his non-MLSE-affiliated Kilmer Group, and why the reports are so darn exciting. Top ten women's football teams US, Canada, Germany and Brazil have all been eliminated from the 2023 Women's World Cup before the quarter-finals, and underdogs Jamaica and Morocco won big early on. In a landmark deal in February 2022, the US women's team finally received pay parity after a year's long battle with the US Soccer Federation. In contrast, a Jamaica team member's mother had to start a GoFundMe campaign in order for the Jamaican team to be able to prepare for this year's World Cup. Now, the big question is: what's behind these wins and losses, and does funding make a difference? Earlier this month, one of football's brightest stars was targeted with an unprecedented amount of racist abuse during a game. Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior — the heir to the throne of Brazilian football — was called a monkey and abused with monkey noises by tens of thousands of fans during a game in Spain's La Liga. But rather than punish those abusing the athlete, it was Vinicius who was shown a red card. In the aftermath of the incident, everyone from the Spanish press to the president of the Spanish football league seemed to blame the victim of the racist attack, rather than his attackers. On this episode, guest host Jodie Martinson talks to sports journalist Shireen Ahmed about one of the brightest stars in world sports, but also about the broader tradition of racism in soccer, and why it remains an ugly issue in the beautiful game. Note: Next week, Burn It All Down has a live show at the University of Notre Dame on October 11. Reserve a free ticket here. In this episode, Shireen Ahmed, Lindsay Gibbs and Jessica Luther dive into the most recent cheating scandals in sport. But first, they talk about where they would put a new franchise of an unestablished sport. Then, they discuss the latest in sports soap operas. First is chess, where a teenage takedown of a longtime world champion, caused said champion to quit a $500,000 tournament. Unfounded rumors around the teenager's cheating include anal beads. Second, is a pro-fishing tournament where winners were caught with prize-winning walleye stuffed with other fish and lead weights to make them heavier. Third, is the wild turn of events at the women's PSG football club, where arrests have been re-made concerning a hired violent attack on a player, that was instigated by a teammate. Fourth is the round-about conversations in the media on what is the true homerun record Aaron Judge is trying to break. Fifth, is a risky, perhaps unwise, multi-bluff hero play in a poker match, where the actual winner was bullied into giving her quarter of a million prize to the loser, because he couldn't fathom he actually lost, so she must have cheated. Following this discussion, they preview a special Patreon segment about recent demonstrations Iran after the killing of Mahsa Amini, and how sport is both used a tool of the state and of protest. Then, you'll here a preview of this week's interview w three women in US rugby: Kerri Heffernan, a former player and coach, and currently the Chair of the Women's Rugby Coaches and Referees Association; Kat Aversano, the head coach of the Howard University women's rugby team; and Alycia Washington, one of the top current players in the US. Listen to get ready for the Rugby Union World Cup that starts Saturday, October 8, in New Zealand. Next, they burn some of the worst in sports on the Burn Pile. Then, they celebrate those shining light, including Torchbearers of the Week, all of the Puerto Rican athletes, including the Puerto Rican national men's ice hockey team and the Puerto Rican national women's basketball team, who dedicated recent victories to the victims of Hurricane Fiona.
