Season 5 of The Ultimate Road Trip Podcast is here! It's been a while, but James is back interviewing more brilliant guests and asking, funnily enough, "What's your Ultimate Road Trip??" This week's guest, Billy Reeves, is amongst other things, a musician, producer, journalist, commentator, podcaster, artist and fundraiser - he's also a big fan of Brentford FC, buses and his hometown. Billy's music career includes founding the band Theaudience and getting The Darkness their first live gig, but after a near-fatal car crash in 2001 he retrained, taking up journalism and commentating.... but he's now back to making music (along with everything else) with 3 albums under his belt along with various singles and live performances across the UK. So what's his Ultimate Road Trip and does it include a Weekend in Staines (upon-Thames) ? The five elements that make up The Ultimate Road Trip. 1. What's the car - make, model, colour 2. Why that car? 3. Destination 4. Passenger 5. Seminal soundtrack

On today's podcast we have Ben Ryan. Ben is the most successful men's rugby sevens coach in history. He's the only coach to have won Continental, World, and Olympic titles, and has been working at the pinnacle of international sport for over two decades and counting. His transformative leadership turned the Fiji Rugby Sevens team into a global powerhouse. Under his guidance, they went on to win back-to-back World Series titles and, most notably, Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Summer Games - Fiji's first ever Olympic medal. The story is insane - and no surprise to me, there's a movie to document it soon. As a leader, Ben revolutionised the way the team embraced culture, connection, standards, and mental preparation - ensuring his players thrived both as athletes, and as individuals. His groundbreaking work in Fiji earned him the nation's highest civilian honour: the Companion of the Order of Fiji. He is currently in his third season as Performance Director at Brentford FC, playing in the Premier League - a club known for doing things differently. They are going from strength to strength, becoming perhaps the most talked about team in world sport, and for whom Ben is a lifelong fan. He was also an impressive athlete himself, a graduate of both Loughborough and Cambridge, a great human being, and a true leader in human performance. In this episode, we discuss: The Fiji story, from hurricanes, dictators, and enforcing discipline, to the part I found most fascinating: the internal challenges Ben had to overcome to transition from aspiring leader to world-class leader. In this excellent conversation from 2021, we are joined by Rasmus Ankersen (@RasmusAnkersen), an internationally known author, speaker, and film producer and one of the worlds leading experts on talent identification and development. Today he is one of the founders of Sport Republic, which is the majority shareholder of Southampton FC, where he also works as the Director of Football. He was also the co-director of football for Brentford FC of the English Premier League from 2015-2021 and Chairman of Champions League club FC Midtjylland of the Danish Super League. His 2012 book The Goldmine Effect is an incredible read and was one of the books that inspired me at the beginning of my Changing the Game Project journey, so to say that I am thrilled to have Rasmus on is an understatement. In 2021 he released a film called “The Hockey Miracle in the Middle of Nowhere,” the true story of how the small town of Herning, Denmark (pop. 50,000) sent five players to the NHL in a ten year period. No Danish player had ever made the NHL before! In that same period, the US cities of Chicago and Detroit, hockey hotbeds, each sent less than 5 players to the top of the ice hockey world. How did they do it? In our talk, Rasmus and I break down the major principles outlined in the film and speak about how you might apply these same ideas in your own community so you don't just ID the talent that shouts, but you can identify and patiently develop the talent that whispers! Please connect with Rasmus at www.RasmusAnkersen.com and grab yourself a copy of The Goldmine Effect. I've been eagerly awaiting this interview for some time, having watched the Heffer family develop the small horseracing form guide Winning Form into the 6,000-plus staffed giant Hollywoodbets. A formidable brand, the company has naming rights on four major racecourses in South Africa; and many of its top races, including the most famous of all, the Durban July. Also, Hollywoodbets sponsor its hometown Sharks Rugby and Dolphins Cricket and the Durban stadiums where they play, plus Dundalk Racecourse in Ireland and, the highest profile of all, English Premier League team Brentford FC. Its Hollywood Syndicates reinvest heavily in SA's racing industry, keeping over a hundred horses in training. This interview with Devin Heffer brings together this inspirational story's threads that go back to a small entrepreneur, his father Owen, whose disruptive endeavours delivered the dream result. - Alec Hogg

Plus, we hear about Jack's experience as an American Aston Villa fan, poke fun at David Moyes' dance moves following West Ham's Europa Conference League victory and again ask what's wrong with LA Galaxy? They're out of US Open Cup and looking like genuine Wooden Spoon contenders! Exclusive content: https://www.patreon.com/SoccerCooligans This is where we put everything we shouldn't say

Our Great Coach on this episode is Thomas Frank Thomas is the Head Coach of Brentford FC in the English Football League Championship. He started his career coaching youth teams in Denmark. His success with the National Under 17 team led to his first senior appointment with Brondby in the Danish Superliga in 2013. He turned their performance around delivering top four performances in successive years. In 2016 he joined Brentford as an Assistant Coach before becoming their manager in 2018. At the end of 2019 season he was awarded Manager of the Year and in May 2021, Brentford beat Swansea for promotion into to the English Premier League for the first time in 74 years. Thomas is an emotionally intelligent coach with an innate understanding of the dynamics that shape the culture of teams. His beliefs about the importance of humility, and the value of hard work and standards are timeless. He understands that to experience the joy of success, you must endure long periods of struggle, and yet through care and what he calls, appreciative enquiry, you can sustain the energy needed to continue on. This was a wonderful conversation with a coach on the rise, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. If you would like to send us any feedback or if you know a great coach, who has a unique story to share, then we would love to hear from you, please contact us at thegreatcoachespodcast@gmail.com or contact us through our website thegreatcoachespodcast.com
Almost every footballer tries their best to make it in their teams. The pressure can come when you want to break into the first team and more so when you make it to a regular start. As a young goalkeeper, you could ask yourself whether you are good enough. Sometimes it might frustrate you when you are released and bring on self-doubt, But how do you deal with such situations as a young goalkeeper? What is your next move when this happens, and how do you cope with it?
Welcome to The Ealing Road Podcast! This is the first episode of what will be a weekly series where we discuss all things Brentford FC. On this week's episode, @mikej_24, @will_1889, and @ClaytonM_23 introduce themselves as hosts, and tell their funniest Brentford stories (there are some good ones). We also discuss the games against Aston Villa and Wolves, before talking about the performance of individual players over the course of the season so far. Listen out for some clear - and perhaps unreasonable - agendas. Finally, we briefly preview Forest (A) this weekend, and all get quite upset at the thought of travelling to the City Ground with no Ivan Toney...
