OK, we're getting the hang of this band now: bleeps, bloops, repetitive robot dance tracks, and the odd punk-inspired freak out. But do we actually like it?
Enjoy An Album with Liam Withnail & Christopher Macarthur-Boyd
Spending over a decade in New York as a perennial indie-rock no-hoper sound engineer, James Murphy reinvented himself in his early 30s as LCD Soundsystem. He established himself as a self-effacing obscuro-muso king on his debut two-disc self-titled record, but it was his sophomore effort that would be his magnum opus. Sound Of Silver threw back to the transgressive sounds of the seventies and the ironic sensibilities of nineties slacker culture, but the powerful one-two punch of Someone Great and All My Friends punctured the sarcasm and defined the noughties for a burgeoning breed of hipsters in Brooklyn and further afield. Sound Of Silver is also #423 on the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list by Rolling Stone magazine, which means Christopher Macarthur-Boyd and Liam Withnail have listened to it, and now they're going to talk about it. Featuring hot takes on everything from Raytheon, Kraftwerk, Metro Area, Faithless, therapy and plagiarism, as well as a scintillating edition of Secret Posho and a surprisingly fair incarnation of Tattoo Woohoo/Tattoo Boohoo. All that and more, plus YouTube Comment of the Week, on this week's Enjoy An Album. Enjoy!
On this episode of the podcast, Jackie, Jonny, and Ty are joined by local comic, DOCTOR Andrew Grant. Andrew brought in an album none of us were expecting, LCD Soundsystem's 2007 "Sound of Silver". Who would've thought Andrew got down to dance music? Blasting Thong Song in the farmlands, creating your personality, Germany remixing their national anthem. This is a good one, and we even talk about music. Remember the aughts when most indie music was dance-y? Good times? Good times. Innocuous times, if we believe the worry of one James Murphy who warns as much on the opening of LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver. Matt looks at the legacy, longevity, and punchiness, or lack thereof, of Murphy's totem of an album. Up as replacements are Phoenix's gargantuanly popular Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and Hot Chip's prickly, but no less beloved, The Warning where both are judged by their handling of emotional profundity and innocuous dance rock.

We conclude our discussion on LCD Soundsystem by analyzing 2007's Sound of Silver track by track. Do we find it to be pure gold or a piece of scrap metal bound for the junkyard? Do we revert back to being emotional teenagers once the sound hits our ears? How many Uncle Fun-Time freakouts occur? All these burning questions will be answered. Aujourd'hui : « New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down » de LCD Soundsystem. Le morceau s’appelle « New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down », comprendre « New York, je t’aime, mais tu me déprimes ». Visuel © Getty Images / Matthew Simmons See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

"Sound Of Silver" is the perfect blend of irony and earnestness, old and new, the 2am party and the morning after. I always knew LCD Soundsystem was great dance music, but it wasn't until this episode that it reached me on a much deeper level. We discuss the artistry of James Murphy, the ripple effect of 9/11 on New York's music scene, the idea of nostalgia (both earned and not), Kermit the Frog, what "silver" sounds like, and the return of LCDSS after their 2011 sold-out funeral at Madison Square Garden.
*NOTE : Karim vient de me faire remarquer que la reprise du I want Your love de Chic est très très proche du I can’t Kick this feelin’ When It Hits de Moodyman. Morceau reprenant lui-même Chic. A vous de comparer ! Et merci Karim !!
Following on from their self titled debut and a collection of instant-classic singles, Sound Of Silver felt like LCD Soundsystem's first fully realised album. It would catapult James Murphy from being a mere walking encyclopaedia to a self-conscious and emotionally developed songwriter, capable of delivering hit after hit. We were delighted to welcome Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem’s Al Doyle to a special event in London with Gabriel Szatan discussing life inside two of the finest electronic outfits in the world. Having released six albums, with Grammy and Mercury Prize nominations to show for it and an armful of crossover hits, Hot Chip have become one of the mainstays of the festival circuit worldwide through their colourful, whimsical approach to dance-pop. Ep 11.2 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver by JackdawSandwichRecordClub
This week we took on LCD Soundsystem and Ryan and I disagreed a lot. But I’m WAAAAAAYYYYY less interested in that discussion than I am in what we listened to and talked about during A Few Minutes With. Purchase "Sound of Silver" on Amazon ### A Few Minutes With ### My good friend Matt Munoz joined us in Mark’s garage for our weekly fun times. Seeing as how Matt was the guest we politely decided to let him pick the song for the intermission. Matt thoughtfully picked ShanDozia and his epic R&B Ballad “Pink Pannies”. See, Matt used to work for Warner Brothers records and apparently at one point they noticed their R&B Catalog was a little weak, so they brought on ShanDozia. Quincy Jones and whole lot of heavy hitters seem to have been involved. You know, just listen to the show, Matt explains it a lot better than I can. And when you are done, please get on the internet and google that shit, cause your life is empty until you hear the full version of [“Pink Pannies”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qCrYR2rJ9o). Coming Up Next Show: It’s a little bit of a surprise but I will say that Kevin is back! So that’s fun. Happy Holidays and shit.

Sound Of Silver is the second full-length CD from LCD Soundsystem, the brainchild of techno-punk James Murphy.
