“It's the only zombie movie that's appropriate to watch at a July 4th barbecue! - Andrew On this week's show, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza gets a little spooktacular as we chat about the super-fun, summer-set zombie flick, The Return of the Living Dead! Why does this Skeleton Warehouse have to be open until 10PM on a holiday weekend? How great is that half-dog puppet? Isn't it great how Russo and Romero split up their zombie sequels so we could get both sides of their shared zombie vision? Why does Frank use that entire roll of paper towels like it's a sponge? And word to the wise, never hang out in an eerie cemetery after dark! PLUS: James Karen welcomes all zombie punks to Pathmark! The Return of the Living Dead stars Clu Gulager, James Karen, Don Calfa, Beverly Randolph, John Philbin, Jewel Shepard, Miguel A. Nuñez Jr., Brian Peck, Linnea Quigley, Mark Venturini, Jonathan Terry, and Thom Mathews as Freddy; directed by Dan O'Bannon. This episode is brought to you in part by Car Gurus! In this fun & unfiltered solo episode, I'm back with Part 2 of our Q+A series — answering your juicy questions straight from the DMs! ✨ In this episode, I riff on: Why celebration expands your energetic field (& yes, what I did for my bday!) The paranormal activity in my house
If you pressed play, the Holy Spirit led you here on purpose. In this episode, I'm holding up the mirror ….not to show you what you lack, but to remind you of what you carry. You've been chosen, set apart, and positioned for such a time as this. Let this word speak to your spirit, stir your faith, and call you back into divine alignment.
Why Not, What If? Georgie Bell and husband Fabrizio Leoni co-founded The Heart Cut, an independent bottler, with an eye towards the world. The question is relatively simple: how can we connect whisky enthusiasts with some of the most exciting, innovative, and deserving-of-attention distilleries? More than half of which - in a telling coincidence - have been Whiskey Ring Podcast guests? Georgie and Fab are globe-trotting whiskey hunters, pulling 16 exceptional casks/releases from distilleries across eight countries in just their first 20-ish months. From Finnish rye to Israeli single malts, they're telling stories through spirits that most drinkers have never encountered. Their approach: direct partnerships, total transparency, and a commitment to showcasing the "why not, what if" spirit of craft distillers around the world. But this isn't just about selling bottles. The Heart Cut is building a whiskey community, breaking down barriers with accessible tasting notes, virtual tastings (starting with the last few releases), and a mission to educate. Bell and Leoni's vision inspires exploration, giving us nerds a healthy mix of whiskies that both represent the heart of what a distillery can do while also pushing its boundaries. If you're new to whisky, you'll be able to enjoy the pours. If you're deep in the fandom, every bit of information they can possibly provide is either on the label or the website. This is an IB built on the knowledge, passion, experience, and wisdom of two people who know their spirits. We spend a few minutes just on Georgie's resume simply to highlight how extensive her knowledge base is - it's that impressive. Finally, I want to acknowledge the introductions Georgie made after the interview was over. The best IBs don't work as firewalls but as gateways. If a bottling makes me want to know more about a distillery, that's the best job an IB can do, and The Heart Cut does it in spades. Who knows - within a few months, I may have completed the collection, having all The Heart Cut partners on the podcast... Being smaller releases, these won't usually be available in the US, but they are through both Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange. I'm picking up a bottle of the M&H (the pomegranate wine cask and Dead Sea Apex release are my two favorites, and The Heart Cut combined them!) and probably 2-5 others given the chance. Thank you to Georgie for entering the Whiskey Ring, and for the multiple introductions she made after the interview! _________________________________________________________ If you haven't joined the Patreon community yet, please consider doing so at patreon.com/whiskeyinmyweddingring The Bottle Share Club - the $25/month Patreon level - is SOLD OUT! “He dresses like an Old West gigolo…” - Eric on Mick Dundee On this week's episode, the Totally Cool Awesome 80s jag of the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza is covering the second highest-grossing film of 1986, the croc-out-of-water comedy, Crocodile Dundee! Why does the movie take so long to get to New York City? What in the hell were they thinking with the multiple crotch grab “gags”? Who packs a sexy bathing suit for a hike through the bush? Does the script confirm that Mick has magic powers? Wouldn't someone try to kill Mick after he wastes all that coke at the party? And what in the WORLD are we doing being barefoot in the subway at the end?! PLUS: Be on the lookout for the American Crocodile Dundee, Alligator Johnson! Crocodile Dundee stars Paul Hogan, Linda Kozlowski, John Mellon, David Gulpilil, Steve Rackman, Mark Blum, Michael Lombard, and Reginald VelJohnson as Gus; directed by Peter Faiman. 313: Ellie's Dad - life lessons, a quiz, and some "jokes" What are the lyrics to Happy Birthday? What is the correct term for male swimwear? Who is Jennifer Lopez? Ellie's Dad knows the answer to none of these questions, and we are here to mock him for it. Yes, it's a Father's Day Special as Jim returns to the podcast. We discuss Crystal Palace's FA cup win, aka the best day of his life. He shares the number one nugget of wisdom he's learned after 78 years on the planet, and Ellie comes up with a new plan to monetise him in his old age. There are some quiz questions, and Confessions involving a Turkish airport, two clothes steamers, and the Virgin Mary. Listen right to the end for a classic Dad joke. Trigger warning: this episode includes several instances of Jim singing, plus an impression of Joe McElderry by Ellie. If you have been affected by any of the singing on this podcast, we can only apologise. Ellie's Dad isn't on social media. But you can follow him around at our gigs. WE ARE ON OUR! “There're piles of skulls, which of course I appreciate” - Steve on the set design On this week's episode, Totally Cool Awesome 80s Month and the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza pay tribute to the late, great Val Kilmer with a convo about the super-fun Ron Howard fantasy flick, Willow! How amazing are Warwick and Val together on screen? Isn't it refreshing that Davis was just allowed to put a shirt on and be this character, without getting covered in prosthetics or whatever else? Wouldn't things have been just fine in this movie without the Brownies flying around? And how amazing is that two-headed Siskel & Ebert monster? PLUS: Queen Bavmorda accidentally touches The Ooze and becomes Super Bavmorda (and is also played by Kevin Nash)! Willow stars Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh, Patricia Hayes, Billy Barty, Mark Northover, Pat Roach, David Sternberg, Phil Fondacaro, Tony Cox, Kevin Pollak, Rick Overton, and Gavan O'Herlihy as Airk; directed by Ron Howard. Our guest for this episode is the awesome Daisy-May Hudson. She tells us about her experience of homelessness, and her journey from documentary maker to film director. We discuss Daisy-May's latest movie, Lollipop, which tells the story of a woman fighting to get her children back, and a friendship that's rekindled along the way. It's out on the 13 June and it's absolutely brilliant. There's also some chat about Daisy-May's documentaries - Halfway, which she made when her family was made homeless, and Holloway, about former inmates of the infamous women's prison. Holloway is out on 20 June. Of course, we finish off with some Scummy Mummy Confessions. Daisy-May tries to reframe Helen's tale of pissing herself as a celebration of freedom, and Ellie nearly pisses herself laughing. Follow Daisy-May on instagram @daisymay_hudson. Leading the Revival of Maryland Rye This week on the Whiskey Ring Podcast, I got to cross off another long-awaited guest: Sagamore Spirit. Situated harborside in downtown Baltimore, Sagamore's campus is among the more beautiful I've visited. The 5-acre plot centers around Penny, their 40' copper column still, which has (almost) single-handedly managed their transition from MGP-sourced rye to 100% Maryland-distilled rye, which now fills the vast majority of their bottles. Few brands have moved from sourcing to their own distillate as seamlessly or as transparently. Along the way, Sagamore Spirit (no "s" because they'll only ever make one) has played with numerous finishes, including award-winning port cask and unique mead and beer finishes from nearby partners. Not to mention their one-off Calvados-finished Rye, which I still rank as one of the best pours I've ever had. Sagamore is no longer alone in their promotion of Maryland Rye, with previous guests like Baltimore Spirits Co. also flying the banner, but it's hard to argue that Sagamore isn't leading the way, whether by volume, shelf space, or distribution reach. Ryan Norwood has been with Sagamore for several years and joins me to talk hospitality, building a rye brand for Maryland starting with Indiana distillate, and how their ongoing connection to the Vanderbilt-owned Sagamore Farm informs their branding, bottles, and their surprising decision to leave horses off the label. Thank you to Ryan for entering the Whiskey Ring! First up, we're talking about the stupidly-titled Rambo: First Blood Part II! How funny is it that this movie pulls a complete 180 on the philosophy of the first film? How great is Sly's hair in this one? Couldn't they have had a few more action scenes with Martin Kove? How wild is it that Predator completely ripped off the Rambo covered in mud bit? And why didn't Murdock get a rockin' death in this? PLUS: Fellow veterans, Bebop and Rocksteady, meet John Rambo! Is being a restaurant reviewer the best job in the world? Where's the best place to book a table right now? And how did a picky eater become an award-winning food critic? Answering all these questions is Jimi Famurewa! He tells us all about his brilliant new book, Picky. We discuss Jimi's time as a connoisseur of all-day breakfast in a can, and share some strong opinions on butter boards. There's also some serious chat as we talk about what it was like to grow up in the shadow of the BNP and the murder of Stephen Lawrence. Jimi discusses his time working for Zoo and Maxim magazine in the noughties, and how he feels about his role in lad culture now. Ellie confesses to her own sexist contribution, and claims it was a different time. Plus, Jimi tries a delicacy from Helen's home country, and we share some Scummy Mummy Confessions involving a towel, a hot tub, and a prawn cocktail. Picky is out now. "Everything we do in Saigon, we're like, 'We don't do this enough.'" - NiallThis episode perfectly captures why I love living in Vietnam — the spontaneity, the constant surprises, and how quickly you can go from urban chaos to countryside magic. What started as a simple glamping trip turned into one of our most memorable adventures yet.Driving on that unfinished highway felt like discovering a secret part of Vietnam that most people will never experience. The workers painting the lines just smiled and waved at us — classic Vietnam hospitality. And then watching those fishermen launch their boats at full speed onto the road? I've never seen anything like it.But honestly, the whole day reminded me why we're still not "done" with Saigon after all these years. There's always something new to discover, always another ferry to catch or countryside road to explore. Waves, Whiskey, and Wild Tasmania: The Waubs Harbour Story Nestled on the rugged East Coast of Tasmania, Waubs Harbour Distillery emerges as a maritime whiskey revelation that challenges everything you thought you knew about Tasmanian spirits. Founded by Tim and Bec Polmear, with distiller (and Tim's brother) Rob bringing scientific precision and deep industry experience, this distillery is a testament to the power of provenance and passion. Situated in a former oyster hatchery literally meters from the wild Southern Ocean, Waubs Harbour crafts a single malt that captures the essence of its environment - salt-kissed, windswept, and unapologetically Tasmanian. The distillery's commitment to quality over quantity is evident in every aspect of their production. Using 100% Tasmanian barley, custom-cultivated yeasts, and an on-site cooperage, Waubs Harbour represents a new wave of craft distilleries that prioritize terroir and technique over mass production. Their unique maritime maturation process, where barrels breathe the pure oceanic air, creates a whiskey profile that is both subtle and complex - with subtle saline notes that hint at the wild environment of its birth. Their experimental approach, from locally sourced peat to custom-built smoking equipment, demonstrates a willingness to push boundaries while respecting traditional craft. Awards from the World Whiskey Awards and Spirits Masters have already begun to put Waubs Harbour on the global whiskey map, but for Tim and his team, it's never been about accolades. It's about capturing a moment, a place, a lifestyle - the maritime spirit of Tasmania distilled into every carefully crafted bottle. With a production model that focuses on quality, a commitment to local ingredients, and a deep love for their craft, Waubs Harbour is more than a distillery - it's a love letter to Tasmania, written in the language of whiskey.

Our First Venture To South Dakota Black Fork Farms' roots trace back to Gordon Omen's great-great-grandfather, Poppy J Omen, who immigrated from Germany and farmed in Southwest Minnesota. The distillery operates on the same land where Gordon grew up, now primarily dedicated to distilling operations. Gordon's inspiration came during a trip to Budapest, where he experienced a field-to-glass bourbon that sparked his vision for creating something similar using his family's agricultural expertise. While not a control state, South Dakota has its own share of challenges - distribution, limited visitor traffic, and some of the coldest weather in the lower 48. Tyler joins me to talk through these challenges and how BlackFork Farms is overcoming them. It's a small operation, but boy that gift pack was beautiful, and they clearly care about the grain and cask - and that's all that matters. Thank you to Tyler for entering the Whiskey Ring! How great is that Count Dooku exit at the beginning? How catty are all the sarcastic Battle Droids? Does this movie have the best-looking space battles in all the prequels? How funny is R2 lighting those guys on fire after whizzing oil all over them? And, yeah, that Vader shout at the end of the movie is still one of the most unintentionally hilarious moments in all of Star Wars! PLUS: Palpatine blurs out his Zoom background when making secret calls from the toilet! Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christian, Natalie Portman, Ian McDiarmid, Jimmy Smits, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Daniels, Christopher Lee, Bruce Spence, Silas Carson, Temuera Morrison, Kenny Baker, and Frank Oz as the voice of Yoda; directed by George Lucas. The regular season has come and gone, and it's time for conference tournament week! Before they hit the road for Hoover, Kyle Schassburger and David Kahn got together for a late-night Dugouts, Dumbbells & Dingers, breaking down all the results from the final regular season weekend. Who won the Power 4 conferences? What mid-majors are making noise as the regular season concludes? How is there carnage in the Southland Conference? Why are we still doing double-elimination and pool play brackets? And how on earth does SHARING a regular season title make sense? The boys ponder all of these questions and more before packing their bags and embarking on another trip to the SEC Baseball Tournament (it's a Tournament, not a Championship, folks!). Join us for the NCAA Baseball Regional Rundown from May 30th to June 2nd exclusively on the Varsity Network app! A Weirdly Timed Episode... Let's get the awkwardness out of the way - I had the pleasure of interviewing Mel Maddox, now-former Master Blender for Old Elk, on May 2nd. A few days later, it was announced that Old Elk had been acquired by Middle West Spirits (a previous guest!) and, subsequently, all workings at their Fort Collins, Colorado location were ceasing. This included laying off all production staff, including Mel. This was still a wonderful conversation in which I learned about Old Elk, but my favorite part was learning more about Mel. The way she looks at whiskey when creating a blend is synesthetic, hard to describe to those who haven't experienced what color something tastes like or the what shape a mashbill makes in your mind. It's a beautiful talent (my version is seeing sounds in color) that is at once intangible and singular. Long story short...I don't know what the next steps are for Old Elk, or for Mel, but I wish them both the best. I think Old Elk was putting out the best stuff it ever had, and clearly her talents were on full display in blending and finishing. We as whiskey enthusiasts can only hope her next role continues to rely on those talents. Thank you to Mel for entering the Whiskey Ring! Geese, Barley, and Peat At The First New Islay Distillery in 124 Years In this brand new episode of the Whiskey Ring Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with James Wills, son of founder Anthony Wills and a worldwide face of Kilchoman Distillery on Islay. This episode marks a significant milestone as it is my first interview with an Islay distillery (I was surprised too!), and I was excited to delve into the unique aspects of Kilchoman and the challenges of distilling on this iconic island. We start off where any good whisky podcast starts: with geese. Yes, geese. They're kind of a big deal there. I'm not known for going with the grain (yeah I said it) so why not there. Kilchoman has a lot more going for it, though, as it enters its 20th year in 2025. As the first new Islay distillery in 124 years, Kilchoman needed to be different. They couldn't just be peaty, they had to be unique - and thus they became the first farm-to-glass distillery on the island. We chat about all the nerdy stuff you'd expect, like barley experimentation and yeast and fermentation, plus a dive into how their bourbon barrel sourcing and full-term maturation (note: not finishing!) work. There's also plenty to explore about the "whys" and inflection points in the distillery's two-decade evolution. I've been wanting to have Kilchoman on for two years, and I'm thrilled to finally make that happen for the podcast and for you, the listeners and supporters. Thank you to James for entering the Whiskey Ring! “Both [Cage] and George C. Scott [in Hardcore] share the same forehead sweat…” - Andrew On this week's very special episode, we're celebrating EPISODE 800 with a very sleaze-tastic conversation on Joel Schumacher's 8MM! How funny is it the screenwriter got upset that the content was toned down from his more hardcore vision? Was Cage's Tom Welles in over his head with this case or was he just the man for the job? How funny is that scene with Gandolfini trying to skip town carrying several boxes of pornography? How great is Joaquin in this performance as Max California? And how terrifying is that final showdown at Casa de Machine? PLUS: “Marc Maron” asks Machine who his guys are! 8MM stars Nicolas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini, Peter Stormare, Anthony Heald, Catherine Keener, Myra Carter, Amy Morton, and Chris Bauer as Machine; directed by Joel Schumacher. In Episode 119 of the Award Travel 101 podcast, Mike and Maria kick things off with a community highlight from Paul, who shared his unique travel ritual of getting haircuts abroad to experience local culture. This sparked a lively discussion, with other members mentioning grocery stores, tattoos, children's books, and grooming services as ways to engage with destinations more deeply. The hosts then dove into news: Chase's 100K Sapphire Preferred offer is ending soon, Alaska Airlines added Philippine Airlines as a partner, Amex and Chase paused Emirates transfers temporarily, and Hyatt launched a lucrative promo for Under the Canvas stays. The main feature covered “Disappearing Sweet Spots” amid ongoing devaluations in award charts. While many programs have raised prices or introduced dynamic pricing (like JAL and Lufthansa), there are still valuable redemptions to be had. ANA's RTW awards remain competitive, and Cathay Pacific has been reliably releasing premium cabin awards despite eliminating its chart. Maria emphasized the importance of diversifying points currencies to navigate future changes. They unpack the overreaction to AI “replacing” Google, the importance of strategic authority in marketing, and the hard truth that too much content is just as bad as too little. One Distillery, Two Time Zones, and Corsets and Whips, Oh My! Husband-and-wife team BIll and Johanna Welter came to whiskey through very different paths - thankfully, their union has produced not one, but two distilleries from which Journeyman's whiskies and spirits spring forth. Bill's passion for golf led him to St. Andrews, Scotland; Johanna's path led through hospitality, drinking whiskey at a time when "most women were drinking cosmos". Somehow, Journeyman is still an under-the-radar distillery, albeit one with two locations (in Three Oaks, Michigan and Valparaiso, Indiana). For those in the know, they're producing some of the best wheat and wheated whiskey in the country, and for this episode I got to try their high-rye cask strength bourbon which, for my mind, might be even better than their wheaters. And to be clear, their wheated products are exempt from my recent distaste for wheaters...they are complete whiskies, whether one grain or multiple, and remain some of the few I'd have on my shelf. Journeyman also holds distinction as a long-tenured distillery in the craft scene, launched in 2011 during the end of the first wave or beginning of the second (Bill wasn't quite sure, so we'll hedge!). They've turned that presence into their own formal and informal mentorship programs, lending help and knowledge to a new generation of distillers. We also touch on the impact of recent tariffs and their Ingrained program, opening up contract distilling to producers without their own capacity in Journeyman's new 140,000 square foot Valparaiso location. In Episode 118 of the Award Travel 101 podcast, host Mike Zaccheo is joined by moderator April Rose. The episode begins with the "Post of the Week," highlighting a discussion on whether obtaining a Real ID before the May 7 deadline is worthwhile, given that some licenses don't expire for years. Commenters suggested alternatives such as carrying a passport or a Global Entry card for compliance. The news segment covers updates like Bilt Rewards adding Southwest as a transfer partner, reciprocal checked bag benefits for Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines cardholders, and Citi's devaluation of transfer rates for select loyalty programs. The episode's highlight feature addresses a sensitive topic—managing travel points and miles after the passing of a loved one. Mike and April delve into the policies of different loyalty programs, providing a guide for transferring points, including required documentation and potential fees. They also explore creative ways to honor a loved one's legacy using points, such as taking trips to places they cherished or donating miles to charity. To prepare for such situations proactively, they suggest enrolling in family sharing programs across various airlines and hotel chains. The episode concludes with a tip from April: travelers can text TSA for inquiries on acceptable items when flying.Links to Topics DiscussedBilt adds Southwest as a transfer partnerBilt Rent Day promotionsAlaska-Hawaiian reciprocal bag benefitsCiti reduces transfer ratiosTSA Rules on cremated remainsText TSA for infoWhere to Find Us The Free 110k+ member Award Travel 101 Community. They unpack why “just run more ads” is a dangerous trap, how AI is becoming a real-world assistant (but also maybe your nosy coworker), and what Disney, Chick-fil-A, and Hamilton all teach us about brand experience. Plus, why resale is back, price reductions aren't a failure, and cookies might be eternal after all.Story Time (1:15):Julie shares how simply improving website content transformed lead quality and campaign results.Beth reminds us that content needs intentionality—posting for followers ≠ posting for buyers.Beth “confesses” to inviting Kevin to a strategy call—and how collaboration shifted a builder's mindset.Kevin reflects on staying calm in market chaos and helping new marketers zoom out from ad metrics to real business impact. AI to the rescue: Kevin uses "deep research" AI to fix his fridge (and skips paying an overpriced repair bill).SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTSOnline Sales & Marketing Summit 50% Sold Out!
