Dafür erinnern ihre Songs nun an The Smashing Pumpkins, LCD Soundsystem oder The Cure. Und das gleich doppelt: Robert Smith schaut auf «what's wrong with me» sogar persönlich vorbei. The Kids are Alright!

Liquified natural gas, or LNG, is a natural gas that has been super-cooled into a liquid so that it can be stored and shipped. It's been touted as a bridge fuel to wean the world off of fossil fuels and onto renewable energy. In December 2024, Sea Change hosts Carlyle Calhoun and Halle Parker investigated the liquified natural gas exports being built on the Gulf Coast in a series called “All Gassed Up.” And they followed those exports around the world from Louisiana to Germany to Japan. What they found was that LNG may not be a cleaner fuel after all. It releases an even more dangerous gas called methane into the atmosphere. And the export terminals are negatively impacting air and water quality for our Gulf coast communities. Today, Carlyle returns to the LNG story with Gulf States Newsroom reporter Drew Hawkins. They talk about how LNG exports are affecting your electricity bills and what the war in Iran means for this industry. What started out as a wordplay joke among friends quickly turned into one of New Orleans most popular bands. LSD Clownsystem is an LCD Soundsystem clown-themed cover band, and since launching on Halloween of 2018, has amassed a cult following with members and fans dressing up like clowns for sold out shows. In the last year they've made their music available through the New Orleans Public Library's Crescent City Sounds. And now, they're gearing up for their French Quarter Fest debut, today April 17 at 5pm on the Jack Daniels Stage.Three of the band's members, bass guitarist Ricky Ostry, singer Howe Pea and singer and percussionist Brooke Paulus, join us for more on creating an imaginative world at their performances. ___Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Alana Schreiber. In the early 1970s, legendary collaborator and self-proclaimed non-musician Brian Eno famously designed a deck of 115 cards containing elliptical imperatives to spark in the user creative connections unobtainable through regular modes of work. He called his creation "Oblique Strategies." For the past six decades, artists the world over in every artistic medium have used Eno's strategy while attempting to overcome a lull in creative output. In 2026, nihilistic, nerdy nimcompoops and self-proclaimed Lightnin' Lickers Jay and Deon found themselves uninspired when contemplating the potential theme of their upcoming forty-seventh episode. Together, they decided... to default back to the alphabet. Because they had a reasonably solid grasp of the alphabet and how it works. Anything But Toto has entered its dirty thirties! To celebrate, Bianca and Julian dive into a full-length, in-depth review of Harry Styles' fourth solo album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. But first, a quick detour into the headlines: a string of Chappell Roan controversies and what they say about boundaries. Then it's onto Harry. Is this album a trend-chasing identity crisis or a bold statement? Bianca and Julian unpack the record as both experiment and homage, tracing its sonic lineage (with special attention given to LCD Soundsystem) while questioning whether Harry fully commits to new wave and dance rock's emotional and vocal demands. Over the course of their review, they also discuss concept albums, “musical geographic universes,” the importance of vocal expressiveness in new wave, and (somehow) cartoon villains and “popping” kneecaps. Also covered is Harry's One Night in Manchester concert film, his BRIT Awards dance, and the controversy surrounding the Together Together tour. As always, the conversation goes beyond the music itself: what does this album reveal about Harry's brand, his artistic instincts, and his place in pop right now? It isn't quite “spiritual experience on a Berlin dance floor”, but it gets close! Follow Bianca's new Substack, “After Hours”, and read her first article “My Formal Resignation as an OG Harry Styles Fan”: https://biancatomori.substack.com/p/my-formal-resignation-as-an-og-harry?r=45y62n&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true What do you think of this album? It's the inaugural Sidetracked Album Club: Annie and Nick travel down memory lane to 2005 after listening back to LCD Soundsystem's debut album and answer questions like: What was life like then, how much have things changed, and does the music still hold up? Elsewhere, Nick is preparing for 6 Music Festival (which will see him DJ with Beth Ditto), Annie reflects on some excellent gig crowds and Courtney Love is on a very relatable Geese journey. Plus, Annie and Nick review SNL UK's first episode, and a listener gets in touch about Lily Allen's West End Girl shows, inspiring a conversation around the ethics of enjoying music about someone's deeply personal pain. David Byrne leaves Annie wanting to know more about his live show while Nick avoids any Rosalía Lux Live spoilers. Plus, Annie and Nick discuss the intimate production behind James Blake's new album and how too many opinions can hold an artist back. Speaking of opinions, there have been many about Jack Harlow's new album, “Monica,” and Annie and Nick explore what puts the soul into neo-soul. Meanwhile, Morrissey has been left in a “catatonic” state and Live Nation executives give people new reasons to be angry, as Annie and Nick try to wrap their heads around their recent settlement with the US Department of Justice. Finally, Annie and Nick are paid a visit by Gail Mortley, an opera singer and singing teacher who kindly takes them through the importance of opera, instructions for our diaphragms, and a few vocal exercises for all burgeoning divas to follow - with Nick turning from reluctant singer to essential pillar of “Gail and the Gail-ettes.” HOMEWORK: Don't forget to listen to LCD Soundsystem's self-titled debut album and send us your thoughts ahead of our first ever album club discussion. The debut album from Bloc Party remains a seminal record of a key time in UK guitar music. Niall is joined by author and writer Dean Van Nguyen discuss the record in front of a live audience at Listen Closely, our series of monthly album listening parties. Bloc Party – Silent Alarm (2005) Bloc Party's debut album quickly became a seminal indie record of the 2000s with big frenetic indie zeitgeist hits like ‘Helicopter', ‘Banquet', ‘This Modern Love' and ‘Like Eating Glass'. Silent Alarm presented a poppy spin on taut post-punk, edgy pop and alternative ballads, with Kele Okereke's lyrical explorations of matters of the heart, modern anxieties, intimacy and alienation. Silent Alarm felt like a manifesto. It bridged rock and dance culture before LCD Soundsystem and others made that fusion mainstream. We discuss its beginnings, its impact, what came after for the band and some recommended further listening. We revisit the record in The Big Romance with a live audience. Dean's book about Tupac is recommended. * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Listen on Apple | Android | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link
Harry Styles has released his highly anticipated fourth album. ‘Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally' follows on from his 2022 album ‘Harry's House,' which won Album of the Year at the 65th Grammy Awards in 2023. It's a notable departure from his previous works, with heavy use of synthesisers and electronic elements – inspired, Styles says, by the music and performances of LCD Soundsystem. Chris Schulz joined Jack Tame to share his thoughts on the album. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on Revinyl, Shawn and Craig kick things off with a look at Shawn's latest Discogs haul, featuring recent pickups from Hoodoo Gurus, Finn Brothers, and Pete Yorn, among others. From there, the fellas dive into their personal Shazam histories. Craig starts things off by running through his most recent 15 or so Shazams, while Shawn goes all the way back to 2013, when he first downloaded the app, uncovering years of spontaneous music discovery. The Shazam deep dive covers a wide musical range—from Lee Ann Womack to Sombr, from LCD Soundsystem to The Morning Benders, and plenty more along the way—highlighting just how unpredictable (and revealing) years of Shazam use can be.
至少,音乐是永远的温暖怀抱,"don't let go, you've got that music in you / one dance left, this world is gonna pull through." (01:16) Go Kurosawa - Green Thing (05:38) Drugdealer, Weyes Blood - Suddenly (08:53) bog band - Another Joyful Mystery (12:41) Wau Wau Collectif - Xale (Toubab Dialaw Kids Rhyme) (16:18) Lakes & Fires - Searching For Sunlight (20:56) Arlo Parks - Romantic Garbage (23:46) Group Listening - What's A Girl To Do (30:21) School Fair - gorse the golden (35:46) Repetition Repetition - The Machinist (Excerpt) (40:57) Gateway - How's Never (49:07) Little Barrie, Malcolm Catto - My Now (54:59) LCD Soundsystem - i used to (electric lady sessions) (59:29) New Radicals - You Get What You Give 《周末变奏》开通豆瓣页面,欢迎标记、点评。
For our first episode of 2026 we're back in relatively recent times (although longer ago than you'd expect 2010 to be!), where we discuss our favourite songs of the year, including Electropop bangers, Blackened prog, & hour long noise jams, plus unexpected jazz appreciation, Beautiful baritone vocals, and the best mispronounciation of a member of Sigur Rós I've ever heard... We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Agalloch, S. Carey, Caribou, Clever Girl, El Goodo, Everything Everything, The Fall, Fear Factory, Foals, Ben Folds and Nick Hornby, Goldfrapp, Gorillas ft Gruff Rhys and De La Soul, John Grant, Grinderman, Ihsahn, ILIKETRAINS, Jónsi, Kayo Dot, LCD Soundsystem, Liars, Linkin Park, Massive Attack, Merzbow, Dan Michaelson, The National, Red Sparowes, Robyn, Teenage Fanclub, Terror, & Warpaint Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/50k4w0QBaammhPgSCnUj0A?si=05cc225aed9d4e12Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com
I gave Sean Rowley a call after writing up an article on “Unguilty Pleasures” (see Chill Gonzales episode 64) - Gonzales' campaign against music snobbery and treatise on the pleasures of Enya's music. It became clear that the story of Rowley's own creation, Guilty Pleasures, was very much a candidate for the Art of Longevity. Guilty Pleasures became that wonderful thing - a content brand (before we called them that) that grew octopus arms. The club nights quickly grew by word-of-mouth, expanding to multiple venues, festivals, and international events, and becoming a fixture of the UK nightlife scene. Then came a series of successful compilation CDs, at a time when compilations still did big business in music. It went on to radio, live tours, and special events (including opening for George Michael at the new Wembley Stadium), helping to popularise nostalgia-driven and feel-good music culture. In Rowley's own words “nostalgia is a fucking wonderful thing”. Well, he did make a career out of it, so he would understand. For an idea to build the way it has, and to last so long, it needed to be something deeper. With Guilty Pleasures, Rowley challenged prevailing ideas of musical “taste” and helped normalise the celebration of mainstream pop, even in alternative spaces. He gave music snobbery a good clobbering and in doing so, established a legacy on DJ culture and the wider acceptance of joyful, communal music experiences. The evidence is everywhere: the enormously popular Despacio Disco launched by James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem) and the Dewaele brothers (of Soulwax and 2ManyDJs). And then James Gunn of course, with the Guardians of The Galaxy soundtrack, which mined similar territory. The pandemic brought us Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Kitchen Disco. Tik Tok has of course done wonders for the “genre”- famous for making Matthew Wilder's “Break My Stride” a sensation, now with 500m streams on Spotify. And on it goes, the sprawling influence of a simple idea that is underpinned by the even simpler concept of the joy of music. **Please share and spread this mix link over the holidays, my tiny ask from you**It's back! When I got booked to do a cool holiday party in Toronto (where we'd previously talked musically about bands like LCD Soundsystem and The Smashing Pumpkins) I knew it was going to be the perfect opportunity to record this year's Christmas mix. The tradition is "Christmas Cocktails", but with the vibe of music I got to play in this mix, I think "A Soul Shack Christmas" is more appropriate, but give it a listen and you be the judge.I'm so behind on posting the mixes here on podomatic (they're up to date over on Mixcloud) but similar to last year, I had to jump ahead and post the Christmas mix while it's relevant.I truly hope this mix bring a little extra joy to your holidays, soundtracks special moments with friends & family and I hope you all stay healthy & safe this holiday season.IG: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245

Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi didn't set out to become a dessert icon. She just knew that if there was one thing she'd like to do every day for the rest of her life, it was baking cookies. That instinct led her from the world of New York City fine dining to the early days of Momofuku, where David Chang pushed Christina to pursue her passion for baking. Since then, Milk Bar has become synonymous with cereal milk ice cream and compost cookies, and Christina herself has won two James Beard awards, written numerous cookbooks, and turned Milk Bar into a cultural phenomenon. In this episode, recorded live at the Charter Workplace Summit in NYC, Christina shares the ingredients behind Milk Bar's success: a strong work ethic inherited from her parents, a sense of childlike wonder that she's never lost sight of, and a soundtrack – from Bob Marley to LCD Soundsystem – that reminds her to lose herself, find herself, and keep creating. Here are her songs: The Beatles, “A Hard Day's Night” Alanis Morissette, “You Oughta Know” Bob Marley and the Wailers, “Waiting in Vain” LCD Soundsystem, “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” Listen to Christina Tosi's full playlist on Spotify. In this week's episode of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd kick off their extended Holiday Theme, running from now through the end of December. They begin the season by diving fork-first into the world of Thanksgiving food—celebrating the dishes that make the holiday shine and debating the ones that maybe deserve early retirement. From the classics like turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing, to the controversial entries like canned cranberry sauce and green bean casserole, they explore what makes Thanksgiving food so uniquely comforting. The conversation also expands into the emotional landscape that surrounds the holiday: the shifting family dynamics, the rituals that evolve over time, and the moments of connection (and chaos) that make this season unforgettable. They also highlight the YouTube channel Tasting History with Max Miller, pointing listeners toward a fun deep-dive into the origins of beloved holiday dishes. This week's Songs of the Week are “Dance Yourself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem and “Bitch School” by Spinal Tap.As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.

Is Playing At My House" "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" "Dance Yrself Clean" "Someone Great"
It has been a hot minute since the last installment of a discography-series episode dropped, and I couldn't be happier than to share that I was able to convince Sammy Sanchez to join me for a breakdown of the King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard catalog.Sammy and I go all the way back to Two Thousand and Twenty-Two, when I met him for the first time after having his awesome father, Cesar, sit down with me to talk music and life.I've gotten to know Sammy via these (now five total) podcast conversations, and that lane of my life is richer for it.In our initial conversation, we talked LCD Soundsystem, Pink Floyd, and Tom Waits. Our second installment peeked into the Tom Waits discography. We did a Beck episode, and a Radiohead episode, and now...it's Kay Gee & the Elle Double-you, baby! How does one attempt to describe King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard? Well...they're an Australian rock band that has broken the mold of prolific studio recordings. In short, they formed in 2010, and have dropped 30 records in that span, and no, there are no typos in this sentence.Thirty records!Beyond that, you just have to see for yourself. They can get heavy. They sometimes journey. And -- from time to time -- they jam. Here's the collection (to the best of our knowledge):Willoughby's Beach (2011)12 Bar Bruise (2012)Eyes Like the Sky (2013)Float Along -- Fill Your Lungs (2013)Oddments (2014)I'm in Your Mind Fuzz (2014)Quarters! (2015)Papier Mache Dream Balloon (2015)Nonagon Infinity (2016)Flying Microtonal Banana (2017)Murder of the Universe (2017)Sketches of Brunswick East (2017)Polygondwanaland (2017)Gumboot Soup (2017)Fishing for Fishies (2019)Infest the Rats' Nest (2019)Chunky Shrapnel (2020)K.G. (2020)L.W. (2021)Butterfly 3000 (2021)Butterfly 3001 (2022)Ominium Gatherum (2022)Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava (2022)Made in Timeland (2022)Laminated Denim (2022)Changes (2022)Petro Dragonic Apocalypse (2023)The Silver Cord (2023)Flight b741 (2024)Phantom Island (2025)And there you have it. And in case you were curious, yes, that was exhausting to type and italicize. So, yes, I can imagine how you totally didn't read it at all.Regardless, Sammy and I motored through the thing and did so (in my estimation) with some sense of efficiency; we didn't dawdle and we certainly didn't speed.Needless, to say, I hope there's a way for some folks to find this conversation enjoyable, be they K.G. & the L.W. fans or not. It was certainly fun and rewarding to do it.Many thanks to Sammy for his knowledge and his energy, and thank you to all of you that support the show.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained in this episode (or any other, for that matter). On this episode of Lipps Service, Scott sits down with the blistering Irish rock quartet Inhaler! The band fronted by Elijah Hewson most recently released its junior album, 'Open Wide,' in February. They kick off the conversation talking about touring, including life on the road, playing festivals like Sea. Hear. Now., and gigs in South America. The guys get into how they met and formed in Ireland, and the Irish music scene they grew up in, with bands like Fontaines DC. They discuss loads about the influence of UK and Irish music and their own experiences shaping today's generation – what it was like opening up for Noel Gallagher, the current Oasis comeback stadium tour, and the new Spinal Tap 2 movie. They talk about the new album and the stories behind some of its hit songs like “Concrete.” The band also gets into the plights of musicians today, giving their thoughts on AI, starting young in the industry, band fights, and band democracy. Inhaler spills so much during this interview, hinting at what's to come, so this chat is not to be missed. Tune into this great chat with Inhaler on Lipps Service! The definitive history of twenty-first-century indie rock-from Iron & Wine and Death Cab for Cutie to Phoebe Bridgers and St. Vincent-and how the genre shifted the musical landscape and shaped a generationMaybe you caught a few exhilarating seconds of "Teen Age Riot" on a nearby college radio station while scanning the FM dial in your parents' car. Maybe your friend invited you to a shabby local rock club and you ended up having a religious experience with Neutral Milk Hotel. Perhaps you were scandalized and tantalized upon sneaking Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville from an older sibling's CD collection, or you vowed to download every Radiohead song you could find on LimeWire because they were the favorite band of the guy you had a major crush on.However you found your way into indie rock, once you were a listener, it felt like being part of a secret club of people who had discovered something special, something secret, something superior. In Such Great Heights, music journalist Chris DeVille brilliantly captures this cultural moment, from the early aughts and the height of indie rock, until the 2010s as streaming upends the industry and changes music forever. Cupcake's favorite action filmmakers 87North (David Leitch and Kelly McCormack's production company) return with “Nobody 2” starring Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielson, Sharon Stone, RZA, John Ortiz, Christopher Lloyd, and Daniel Bernhardt. 87North might be having the same kind of year as BlumHouse with lackluster audience reception to previous releases Love Hurts and Ballerina. Will this action comedy sequel directed by Indo-Asian action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto in his US debut break the bad streak? And what will WillDaBeast and Cupcake think about this second go around with Hutch and his family vacation ruined by a run-in with a female girl-boss gangster? You'll be surprised who gives this one a “skip” (!)Meanwhile: Mike pluses his live concert experience with LCD Soundsystem (guess what? This live episode was recorded over two nights in June in The Big Romance on Parnell Street in front of an attentive live audience (and some people overheard on the recording from the main bar) I'm sure why it took me 18 editions of the Listen Closely live listening parties for me to think about recording them and putting them out on the Patreon feed but I finally had the idea last month. And sure, when we had two sold out parties of people coming to hear some chat and a full-volume listen in The Big Romance of LCD Soundsystem's second album Sound Of Silver (2007), then it was a great opportunity to stitch together chats I had with two guests DJ Kelly-Anne Byrne and Eoghan O'Sullivan (The Point Of Everything), all about James Murphy, Losing your Edge, loving and hating new York, gout and more The second album from record nerd James Murphy and company, cemented LCD's status as a defining band of an alternative generation, elevating and building on the wry wink-wink-reference debut album with a second record that felt less like Murphy play pretending his heroes but joining them with a record filled with vastly superior alternative dance and rock music that takes its influences and turns them into something greater, and more singularly LCD Soundystem with songs of the age - 'Someone Great', 'Get Innocuous', 'All My Friends', 'Us vs Them' and more. We discuss the record first with Eoghan and then play the record (not broadcast of course) before coming back after with Kelly-Anne Byrne to post-mortem what we've heard. Send us a textWhen James Murphy turned down writing for Seinfeld to pursue music, no one could have predicted he'd create one of the most influential dance-rock albums of the 2000s. "Sound of Silver" by LCD Soundsystem, released in March 2007, forever changed the landscape of electronic music by injecting it with raw emotional depth rarely found in the genre. In this episode, we immerse ourselves in the hypnotic world of LCD Soundsystem's sophomore masterpiece. We trace Murphy's journey from club DJ to reluctant frontman, exploring how his background shaped the band's distinctive sound – a brilliant fusion of disco beats, post-punk sensibilities, and electronic innovation. The album draws from an eclectic range of influences including the B-52s, David Bowie, and the Smiths, creating something both nostalgic and groundbreaking. We spend considerable time unpacking the emotional core of the album. "Someone Great" stands as a haunting meditation on loss that Murphy intentionally keeps ambiguous, allowing listeners to project their own experiences. Meanwhile, "All My Friends" captures the bittersweet reality of aging and evolving relationships with its relentless piano motif and poignant lyrics. These tracks demonstrate Murphy's remarkable ability to create dance music that makes you think as much as move. The cultural context of mid-2000s New York City looms large throughout our discussion. We explore how the album serves as both a celebration and critique of urban life, culminating in the love-hate letter "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down." In the Fifteenth episode There Is No Planet Earth Stories, I sit down with legendary DJ, producer, and remixer Justin Strauss for a wide-ranging conversation about his remarkable journey through music and nightlife culture. We explore Justin's early music experiences—from seeing The Beatles live to attending iconic shows at Electric Circus. He shares stories from his time as the frontman of the glam-punk band Milk n' Cookies, and his transition into DJing, including his first gig and influential residency at the legendary Mudd Club.Justin also reflects on his pivotal roles as resident DJ at iconic 80's NYC venues like Area, and The Ritz. Additionally, our conversation explores the origins and evolution of his prolific remix and production career, which continues to inspire across generations.“Few DJs could adequately represent the last three decades of New York nightclub history - no less do so with such iconic credentials as Justin Strauss. Since he was 17, when his first band was signed to Island Records, Justin has had a career that reads like a Who's-Who of the music scene, spinning at nearly every dance club that you'd ever want to go to. Starting as DJ at New York's legendary Mudd Club, he spun his way through The Ritz, Limelight, Area, Tunnel, M.K., Life, Centro Fly and more, pioneering his own distinctive sound, and becoming one of the most sought-after remixers and producers not just in New York, but in the world. He has worked with the gamut of artists - Depeche Mode, Hot Chip, Sergio Mendez, Tina Turner, Jimmy Cliff, B-52s, Luther Vandross, 808 State, Malcolm McClaren, Skinny Puppy, Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem to name a few and on over 300 records! Much of the new dance crowd that goes to hear Justin DJ today, doesn't necessarily know his history; they simply love his spinning because he always keeps them dancing and surprised, seamlessly mixing between choice classics, delectable rarities and innovative beats. For Justin, no genre or style is off-limits – he can and will mix anything, so long as he can keep the crowd enthralled. His self-proclaimed mission is “connecting the dots” between what might otherwise seem disparate musical periods and styles, while introducing exciting new sounds. He does so with infectious passion, subverting preconceptions about what's old and new, and inspiring young DJs with his masterful skill and ever-youthful spirit. But Justin Strauss doesn't stop there. As half of the production duos, Whatever/Whatever and A/JUS/TED, he continued to produce and mix records, working on remixes for the likes of Hot Chip, William Onyeabor,LCD Soundsystem, Blood Orange, Holy Ghost!, Franz Ferdinand, Beyonce. Working on new projects Extra Credit with Joe Goddard of Hot Chip & Marcus Marr, and with Max Pask under their Each Other moniker, whose debut E.P.'s were mixed by Soulwax and released on their Deewee label, with new releases coming soon. Touring the world Dj'ing at Panorama Bar in Berlin, Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, Zunkunft in Zurich to name a few. In fact, he doesn't stop at all.”Support the show
