CFTROU 0162: Faithful Neighborhood Mission-Based Presence with Brandon Shields Contrary to what is believed, there is immense power in preaching less, deepened listening, holding space, and hosting critical conversations. Brandon Shields, an author and passionate Man of God is here to discuss his family's journey of taking a leap of faith, moving to Indianapolis, planting their roots, and seeing the fruition of God's plan. You will hear how Brandon and Emily were intentionally willing to go where the spirit of God was working and how this lead them on the path of creating a neighborhood church. Brandon explains the power of slow, organic growth and the importance of presence, proximity, and particularity. Brandon explains the importance of meditating and soaking in the gospels, how to slow down and listen, and why a neighborhood church may be what you are needing! Key Points: Brandon's involvement in Harbor Network. How Brandon planted his roots in Indianapolis and began his mission of creating a church. Presence, proximity, and particularly: three key elements in Brandon's journey. The active role Brandon plays in his community. The failures and struggles Brandon faced. The power of hospitality. Moving from talking to practicing. How Brandon has helped start other neighborhood churches. The book of John, Luke, and Jeremiah as guides for understanding the actions of Jesus. Opportunities that are missed when the only focus is growth and reproduction. The power of the neighborhood church. How to pay attention to Jesus intentionally. We failed early, often, and fast. We didn't quit and kept asking ‘God, what do You doing?.Click To TweetSome of the beauty of a neighborhood church is the depth, although you don't have the width, you have the depth and the intimacy and simplicity and opportunities for embodimentClick To TweetPay attention to not just what Jesus said, but the way that Jesus livedClick To Tweet Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Brandon Shields LinkedIn Brandon Shields Blog Soma Indy Harbor Network The Jesus Way on Amazon The Church and Its Vocation on Amazon Eternal Words and Changing Worlds on Amazon Resilient Faith on Amazon Jimmy on Twitter Leslee on Twitter Family Church Network Family Church on Facebook Family Church on Instagram Church for the Rest of Us on Twitter Get podcast updates delivered to your inbox. The writer Meg Shields (Film School Rejects) returns to the show for a look at one of the highlights of Criterion Channel's lineup of 80s Horror, Chuck Russell's 1988 remake of the fifties cult classic The Blob. Not as celebrated as two other eighties Body Horror remakes of fifties sci-fi (Carpenter's The Thing and Cronenberg's The Fly), The Blob is ripe for rediscovery with it's incredible use of practical special effects and miniatures to tell the tale of a goopy pink organism that terrorizes a small ski town in California which is revealed not to be an alien creature but in fact a secret biological weapon on the loose when government agents seize control of the area in an attempt to contain it. But a pair of plucky local teens (Shawnee Smith and Kevin Dillon) might be mankind's only hope for survival. The Blob succeeds thanks to a smart screenplay by Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont that leans into the ridiculousness of the premise while showing a gleeful disregard for genre expectations throughout. A box office flop at the time thanks to a bad marketing campaign, sometimes movies like The Blob take a long time to find an audience. Plus: Meg recommends some other highlights of Criterion's well-chosen lineup of eighties horror offerings. Britain’s Ealing Studios is best known for its comedies, including The Ladykillers, The Lavender Hill Mob, and Kind Hearts And Coronets. But this 1945 precursor to those famously funny films deals more with chills than chuckles. Four directors tag-team to adapt a mix of original and classic tales, including one based on a story by H.G. Wells. It’s the rare horror anthology whose framing story is as creepily compelling as its individual tales of terror, building to a memorably hair-raising climax that’ll stick with you through the closing credits and beyond. Come for the golf-induced suicide, stay for the ventriloquist’s dummy. Nathan Alderman with Shelly Brisbin and Randy Dotinga.

We had an in-depth discussion about this fight and the entire all-women's card which it headlined, and what this all means for women's boxing and boxing in general. The boys are here to recap one hell of a week of boxing. We had 3 cards this weekend we have to breakdown & discuss. We saw the All Women card where Baumgardner edged out a split decision win over Mikaela Mayer, & Shields put on a boxing clinic on Marshall to go Undisputed 3 times in 3 different weight classes. Then we saw a feisty fight between Plant & Darrell until Plant buried Dirrell with the Counter Left hook KO. Wilder is ALL the way back after insane 3 punches thrown KO over Helenius. All the way in the land down under we saw Devin Haney rinse & repeat on Kambosos to another one sided decision victory to stay Undisputed Lightweight Champion.

Hannah Rankin joins Steve to look back at a historic night of boxing in London. They hear from Claressa Shields and debate whether she really is the greatest after she beat Savannah Marshall to become the undisputed middleweight champion. Steve also chats to Marshall and her coach Peter Fury, and Alycia Baumgardner is on the pod after she narrowly beat Mikaela Mayer in the co-main event.
If you've ever felt the pain of disconnect, from yourself, from those closest to you or from the world in general, then Steve Vincent's raw and authentic interview with Dr. Shields will help you rethink life's challenges. If you want to find true freedom, to 'find you', then you're invited to take the journey into your Shadow Self.Support the show
