Charisma Quotient: Build Confidence, Make Connections and Find Love
Ever feel like no matter how much you've accomplished, lasting love is still just out of reach? In Episode 396 of The Charisma Quotient, “5 Hidden Shields That Block Love After 40" Kimmy peels back the layers on the “hidden love shields” that so many successful, independent later-in-life daters unknowingly wear as armor—and reveals how these silent protectors can be the very barriers keeping true intimacy at bay. This episode zeroes in on the subtle beliefs and patterns that form after years of heartbreak or flying solo, unpacking how they sabotage romance despite your best intentions. Kimmy walks you through the five classic love shields she sees time and again: from the ultra-independent “I'm Fine” shield, to the ever-rational “Over Analyzer,” the charismatic “Performer,” the heavily-protected “Guarded Heart,” and the “Time Ticking Bomb” urgency to rush into relationships. This episode is packed with actionable insights as Kimmy shares powerful real-life stories—like the 52-year-old financial analyst who tracked every dating detail in a spreadsheet to “protect” herself (and how giving up checking boxes led her to unexpected chemistry), and Susie, the super-capable woman whose very strength kept her walled off from real intimacy. Learn why dropping your love shields isn't about losing yourself, but about expanding your capacity for joy and closeness, and find out what practical habits and tiny risks you can start today to let love truly in. Kimmy's vibrant storytelling and step-by-step guidance bring you the tools and encouragement to break out of your comfort zone, stop managing love with logic, and open yourself up to authentic connection—regardless of age or history. You'll hear: How to slow down and permit space for connection, not just achievement or outcome. Why true connection and chemistry need authentic presence and vulnerability. How to avoid rushing into relationships due to fear that “time is running out,” focusing on locking things down rather than experiencing true connection. Why these shields, while protective, actually block genuine connection and keep you stuck in unsatisfying dating patterns. They explore a groundbreaking theory suggesting vast amounts of liquid water may exist beneath the Martian surface and discuss a revolutionary new cooling method for spacecraft during atmospheric re-entry.Episode Highlights:- The Water Beneath Mars: Andrew and Fred Watson discuss the findings from NASA's InSight mission, revealing that Mars may harbour significant amounts of liquid water trapped in porous rock beneath its surface. They explore the implications of this discovery for future Martian exploration and the potential for microbial life.- Innovative Cooling Solutions: The duo examines a new approach to spacecraft re-entry that involves a 3D printed material capable of 'sweating' to cool down, potentially revolutionising how we protect spacecraft from the intense heat of re-entry.- The Universe's Expiration Date: They also discuss a startling new theory from Dutch scientists that suggests the universe may end much sooner than previously thought, with calculations indicating it could be just 10 to the power of 78 years away, significantly shorter than earlier estimates. For more Space Nuts, including our continually updating newsfeed and to listen to all our episodes, visit our website. Will Howell discusses Armor Edge's thermoformed polycarbonate leading edge protection for wind turbine blades. Their solution helps to mitigate erosion, enhance aerodynamic performance, and extend blade life. Allen Hall: Will welcome to the podcast. Thank you very much. Thanks for having me. So Joel and I have heard about Armor Edge for a couple, couple of years. Yeah. You're based in Scotland. Yeah. And we haven't seen you much in the United States and I haven't physically touched it. And of course we're sort of tangible. We gotta play with the the product. So this is the first time now we're here. Gotten to see the product. Yeah. Yeah. You wanna describe really what this product is for a leading edge protection? Will Howell: Yeah, absolutely. So we are different to other LEPs out there on the market. And really that was the whole point of our design evolution, was to try to overcome some of the traditional downfalls of some of the other LEDs that have been prevalent on blades. So. Um, yeah, we've been around since, um, well about eight, eight years now. And we've been out in the market installed since 2020. So we're, as you mentioned, Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland is a kind of a base. So our first installs were all offshore, north North Sea, so offshore, Denmark, offshore [00:01:00] Germany. Very harsh, harsh environments. But we wanted to, to design an an LEP that was, um, really. Overcoming some of the traditional pitfalls. So for us, that is the ease of installation, the longevity of the material, and also the a EP benefits that we, that we see. Um, as you see for the sample we have in front of us here today, it's uh, only a small piece that we take to show just to, to, to show our clients and customers. Um, but typically the shields are 850 mil mil long. Uh, they're made of a, a custom thermoformed, um, polycarbonate, a SA blend. We get the material formed into sheets, and then we drape that sheet over custom design molds that are tailored for the specific blade types. And that's how we get this perfect fit on every different blade that we're, that we're, um, that we have out, out there. So let's talk about the installation. Yeah. Joel Saxum: Because that's [00:02:00] a, that's a really important one for me because on the podcast we always wanna talk about what problems we're, what problems we're solving. Sure. What problems you guys are helping the industry with. And one of the biggest ones with LAP, and it doesn't matter what the product really is, if it's tapes, if it's coatings, if if it's installed wrong, it's not gonna last. Yep. Yep. That's, that's the thing. So what have you guys done with this to help the technicians in the field to make it easier to make it. Last I want you to put on the line. Will Howell: Yeah. I mean, I guess there's a lot of technology in terms of the performance of the, of the product. Um, both the adhesive and the material itself. But predominantly this was designed for rope access in the North Sea, so it had to be a product that the guys were. Able to handle up on, up on rope. Um, it wasn't gonna be affected by climatic conditions as much, um, and would really lead to a faster, but also therefore, a higher quality installation because of the way that it's put on, it's not so much of a artisanal process that some of these other LEPs seem to [00:03:00] suffer from. We want to. Train our technicians to deliver a high quality installation, but really you don't have to be a master LEP installer to get our, to get our kit on, our kit on Blade. And that's the feedback we've been getting from the technicians is that they find it, uh, easy to handle, easy to apply process, uh, in the field. Joel Saxum: What does Blade Prep look like before you put it on? Will Howell: Well, another unique. Facet of the system is because the shields themselves are custom formed from a a semi-rigid material. The leading edge of the shields themselves doesn't confor...
Chelsey Lindner, a pharmacist and Manager of Clinical Services at Shields Health Solutions, provides insights about the growing prevalence of oral and subcutaneous injection oncology medications, which is shifting the delivery of care from the clinic to at-home. This innovation in cancer care introduces complexities around accessing and affording these specialty drugs and requires the skills of a specialty pharmacy to support the patients and providers. In an integrated care model, there is also a growing need for attention to medication adherence and monitoring for side effects by these pharmacists. Chelsey explains, "Shields is considered a specialty pharmacy integrator. We partner with health systems across the country to help them operate best-in-class specialty pharmacy programs. We are focused on improving patient outcomes through specialized pharmacy services and supporting the optimized use of specialty medications through navigation of access, care coordination, and comprehensive medication management. So those are three of the big services Shields offers as a company." "I would say that the number one component that these oral oncology medications offer is a level of patient convenience and maintenance of their quality of life. Because what was a cancer diagnosis 20 years ago meant they were going to have to come to the health center or be admitted to the hospital to receive their treatment. Whereas now, when a patient might be faced with a certain cancer diagnosis, they will be managing it like a chronic condition. They can stay at home, they can stay with their families. They can do all of those things that they want to do that help support that quality of life as they're going through active cancer treatment. And so with that certainly comes, I think, a level of popularity. And I think the pharmaceutical companies certainly would be incentivized to continue the research in this area and the development of these agents." #ShieldsHealthSolutions #IntegratedCareModel #SpecialtyPharmacy #CancerTreatment #MedicationAdherence shieldshealthsolutions.com Listen to the podcast here

Our show opens with news that a new Pope has been selected. At the time I was live, they had not yet announced the name, but I am sure we will discuss that in-depth tomorrow. I spend a good amount of time on a hearing with USA Fencing as well as a one on continued problems with anti-Semitism on campus. In fact, just as these hearings were taking place, over 100 pro-Hamas cosplaying terrorist wanna-be's stormed the library on Columbia's campus. However, this time, at least 80 were arrested and Secretary of State Marco Rubio promises to revoke foreign visas where applicable. This gets me to the whole Hamas v. Israel topic. I spend time on how Hamas knows how to play the propaganda game with the West. It's because we have had a few generations of graduates indoctrinated in the oppressor v. oppressed model, instead of knowing right from wrong. And, it seems the Trump administration is done with the lie of a two-state solution. We move to the hypocrisy of Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and his private flights. We remind you President Obama discussed how he had to follow immigration law, while Biden told an audience he was planning to ignore the law. Next, I admit I have likely missed what AG Bondi and FBI Director Patel were doing as their first priority. While we are all grumbling about the lack of perp-walking corrupt politicians, they have been going after child traffickers! When it comes to the agenda, there is no doubt that is more important. We close on a big win for Trump, announcing the first renegotiated trade deal was with the UK! On a separate note, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) has been successful in tanking Trump's nomination of US Attorney Ed Martin. This two-faced RINO is still upset over January 6. Yet, he had the gall of praising the UK deal, even though just a week or so ago, he pledged to remove the tariff power from the president. We have a lot of house-cleaning yet to do! I need to add a note to this episode before it begins. I had emailed Mel a few weeks ago for a follow up and didn't get a reply, but I know she's a busy lady and didn't think much about it. Then today I received a note from Carolina that she had also reached out to Mel several times with no response. So Carolina did more digging and found Mel Shields obituary. Mel passed away on April 5th, 2025. Only five days after this interview was recorded. This was quite a shock to us. But I can't imagine the shock it must be to her dear husband, Paul. Paul, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy. It was a privilege to know Mel through our quilting group. She will be greatly missed. And I want to let you know that you and your family are in our prayers. It was an honor to record Mel's story. And Paul, I hope being able to hear her voice in this interview will give you comfort. Mel Shields just has a few rules you need to follow when you're at The Quilting Room with Mel. There are no quilting police, you make your quilts the way you want to and if you are happy with the results, so is she. Everyone is welcome in her quilting room and last but not least enjoy your sewing machines the way you want to. These rules become very clear as we get to chat with Mel you'll hear her deep love for quilting and sewing machines. Here's Mel's No Y-Seam LeMoyne Star Obituary for Melissa Dawn Shields September 28, 1979 - April 5, 2025 Quenemo - Melissa Dawn Shields, 45, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Advent Health in Ottawa, Kansas. Melissa had worked as a waitress in high school and college, worked for Grapevine Internet as a Tech Rep and had worked several years at Marais des Cygnes Valley Elementary School. She had started as a Para with Three Lakes and then became the librarian and IT technician for the school. She had been a volunteer firefighter and worked with Osage County Emergency Management. She was a member of the Quenemo United Methodist Church and had always helped with the Quenemo Penny Suppers. On December 19, 2004, Melissa was united in marriage to Paul Shields at the Michigan Valley Community Church. Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, James and Donna. Melissa is survived by her husband, Paul of 20 years; by her son, Joshua Shields of Herington; by her stepdaughter, April Shields; by her brother, Jim Meek of Spring Hill; and by her sister, Dee Dinkle of Independence, Missouri.
