I 8 år var Sofie leder af DMS missionshospitalet i Tirukoilur. Hun kaldte selv lægemissionsarbejdet for “anskuelsesundervisning i praktisk kristendom”. Sundar har arbejdet som leder af Arcotkirkens skoleprojekt i 30 år. For ham er mission heller ikke bare ord, det er også handling. Sophie var egentlig ret kritisk overfor det med at missionere. Som ung missionær oplevede Sofie kravet fra kristne indere om mere ligestilling med missionærerne og senere oplevede hun oprør og uroligheder i Calcutta op til den indiske uafhængighed i 1947. I dag er der en rivende udvikling i Indien. Men forretningsmanden “Shani” fortæller, at det ikke er alle, der er glade for Narendra Modi og BJP, det hindunationalistiske parti, som har regeringsmagten.
