Nehemiah is one of the most fascinating accounts in Israel's history. It reads like a movie in telling the historical account of a nation in political, social, and spiritual turmoil. Nehemiah is called by God to rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem but in doing so issues arise and the opposition continues. It has been said that if “Satan can't destroy you, he'll distract you” and Nehemiah's opposition starts working overtime as they work to finish the wall. In this week's episode from Nehemiah 6, Pastor Daniel talks about how the enemy uses distractions to keep us from accomplishing the work God has called us to do. First, a definition: Distraction—a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. In today's world of nonstop distractions, this is a lesson we all need to learn. Pastor Joe Williams is back with Pastor's Perspective on the discipline it takes to be focused and effective in leadership. How do we combat distractions? Know your calling, learn how to delegate and the power of saying no. QUOTES --- QUOTES --- QUOTES --- “As leaders, we can often be distracted by what looks like an “opportunity.” - Craig Groeschel“Having a biblically-based purpose is like holding a magnet. It motivates, directs, and pulls you around detours and through distractions…I should be concerned with being productive, not simply busy!” - David Kraft, Leaders Who Last“People without clear vision are easily distracted, have a tendency to drift from one idea to another and often make foolish decisions that rob them of their dreams.” - Andy Stanley“What gets scheduled gets done.” - Michael Hyatt, Leadership Coach“We don't drift into good directions. We discipline and prioritize ourselves there.” - Andy Stanley“It takes a huge commitment to stay focused these days. There are so many moving parts that need our attention and an ever-changing landscape that must be navigated. I've never had to work harder to keep the main thing the main thing. We need the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit.” - Christine Caine“The different between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say no to almost everything.” - Warren Buffett“Successful people do consistently what normal people occasionally” - Craig Groeschel

4th Sunday of Lent Do you ever get distracted in prayer? It's normal, it's human; sometimes focus is within our control, sometimes it is not. There are, however, better and worse ways to respond to distraction, better and worse ways to enter back into prayer and time with our God. Want to know what some are? Then listen to this weekend's homily!
Are you easily distracted? I am painfully easy to distract. In the time since I started even writing this. Yes. These first few lines I walked away from my desk, I started knitting, I started fighting a squid in the video game I am playing, returned 10 text messages and scrolled on Instagram when all I needed to do was write this caption for today's podcast. I am restless. I am flighty. I am uneasy. I am so infuriatingly distractable it makes me want to scream and it has on many occasions made me cry. So this week of my year of abundance challenge I am going to do my best to limit my distractability. I don't think that's a real word but it's what I need to do real work on. Setting really specific singular tasks. Focusing on one thing at a time. Not being on my dang phone so much. Clearing my constantly spinning brain of some of the clutter. I know I can't be the only person who struggles with full-blown SHINY OBJECT syndrome at all times. So if that's you please share some secrets for how you manage it or how you have gotten back on track after allowing it to be a habit for an increasingly long time.

Imagine if you were a writer living two hundred years ago. You probably lived on a farm and woke up at the crack of dawn with the sound of the rooster. You worked all day and went to bed not long after sundown. If you were a writer, this would be an ideal environment to get your work done. There were not many distractions except for your family, a farm, and some animals. That's not the case today. We have a constant stream of distractions all around us. Social media, streaming services, email, notifications, text messages, and a hundred other things compete for our attention every second. On this episode, Kent asks how far you're willing to go in order to deal with distractions. *** Are you looking for a community of enthusiastic, generous writers to help you build better habits and grow your writing business?
