Cease being drawn into the whirlpool of chaos and confusion, of destruction and devastation, and start right now concentrating on the wonder and beauty of the world around you. Give thanks for everything. Bless all those souls whom you contact. Refuse to see the worst in people, in things or in conditions, and seek always for the very best.It is not being like an ostrich hiding your head in the sand and refusing to face the realities of the world. It is simply looking for and concentrating on the very best in everything and everyone. You are a tiny world within yourself. When there is peace, harmony, love and understanding right there deep within your tiny world, it will be reflected in the outer world all around you. When you can do it, you are beginning to help the whole vast situation in the world." Marcus is going to talk about your personal brand. He wantsto talk about the aesthetics of this. First, what is a personal brand. So, it's a combination of who you are, what you do, what you are known for a who is your target audience. Marcus is going to focus on how we look. Marcus thinks women are much better at this than men. Marcus thinks that when people book a photographer, they have certain expectations. He thinks people expect photographers to be cool and a little arty. This expectation makes a difference to our brand. We have had a couple of stylists on the show including Nick Hems and Suzanne SuthersMarcus says the first thing is to know your size. Get properly measured so you can work out what is going to fit you. Marcus thinks are then you need a “capsule wardrobe”. This is a few items of clothing that work well together. Marcus recommends getting clothes second hand. He thinks higher quality second hand clothes are better than cheap new clothes. He says you need some items that match your brand. Marcus says if you can't decide on a colour go for black. Something small with your brand colour can work well with black.Marcus says there are several points of contacts with people. Usually on Zoom, Networking, on your website and then on the shoot. On Zoom calls it's important to get the background right. Arrange the background well. Some artefacts in the backgrounds that show you are a photographer are great. Marcus doesn't like the artificial backgrounds. Marcus does suggest a slide show in the background. He also suggests getting a good webcam or use your SLR as a webcam. Get the camera level and lighting right. Also ensure your label on Zoom clearly says your name and business. Marcus says then on the website you want at least twophotographs of yourself. Sam and Marcus agree a photo of you on the homepage is important. Marcus says a behind the scenes video is useful. Sam says it shows you interacting with customers which is very powerful. Marcus says a photo onthe about page is also important, and you need to be in your branded calls. Sam says also using images for example of you having a nice chat with someone by the call me button may help put people at ease.

In a world awash with self-proclaimed experts and Instagram-perfect entrepreneurs, it's a real challenge to separate genuine substance from slick spin. Many can talk a good game, sporting the right clothes and car, but scratch the surface and the depth simply isn't there. They might know all the business clichés and initially motivate you, but often falter when real problems arise. This episode of the Stay Hungry Podcast tackles how to see past these superficial displays. The hosts aim to help you identify those who only talk the talk.Joel and Martha delve into the tactics used by "business gurus" who often rely on polished branding and carefully constructed, sometimes exaggerated, sob stories to gain trust. They discuss how to spot "performative vulnerability," where emotional displays feel inauthentic, and vague advice shrouded in buzzwords like "alignment" or "my truth". The episode also scrutinises flashy success claims, such as ambiguously defined "seven figure launches," which often don't stand up to closer inspection. Ultimately, it's about equipping you with the insight to recognise red flags and trust your own judgement in a crowded market. Here's what you'll learn:
Fear is a natural part of life. A healthy level of fear is necessary; it keeps us from walking down dark alleys alone, it reminds us to wear our seatbelts, and it nudges us when we're standing near the edge of a cliff. But when everything in life feels like a danger, we begin to manifest unhealthy fear patterns in our bodies and minds. When we approach fear from a MindBody perspective, our nervous systems relax and we start to build safety from within. Once fear becomes the passenger, rather than the driver, magic becomes possible in all areas of life. Joel had planned it meticulously: a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Borneo to mark his wife Hannah's recovery from major surgery. The centrepiece? A challenging rainforest trek to Coffin Cliff Point, a viewpoint so breathtaking it's said to resemble an ocean of green. But the night before, illness hit. On the morning of his birthday, Joel was too unwell to get out of bed. Hannah had to go without him. That moment, watching someone he loves tackle something monumental, solo, sparked a powerful reflection. In business, just like in life, there comes a time when you have to step back. Whether it's with staff, clients or even yourself, authentic leadership often means letting go and giving others the space to step up.In this episode, Joel and Martha delve into what it truly means to lead from the jungle to the boardroom.
Most of us are skilled at being kind to others, but do you extend that same level of kindness to yourself? Self-love is a wonderful aspiration, but sometimes it feels hard to reach. Self-kindness can be the path that guides us toward this deeper appreciation. Through small acts of gentleness, we can begin to tend to ourselves with the same care and understanding that we offer to our loved ones. You are worthy of rest. You are worthy of acceptance. Ever delivered knockout results… only to watch a client walk? It's a brutal truth of business: sometimes, amazing just isn't enough. In this episode of the Stay Hungry Podcast, Joel, fresh from a literal fever dream in Borneo (where he didn't see enough orangutans but did have a business epiphany!), and Martha unpack why. Using a real-life gut punch: a client who left despite an 18x return on ad spend, they reveal why your best work can vanish if clients don't see the 'so what?' and 'what's next?'.Whether you're in marketing, accounting, or any service game, if you're not constantly painting the bigger picture and showing the roadmap, you're risking it all. Joel and Martha dig into the common traps: assuming clients "just get it" (spoiler: they often don't), failing to provide context for your wins, and not re-enrolling them in the exciting journey ahead.

In the third and final episode of a podcast series on medical misinformation, nurse practitioners (NPs) Drs. Ruth Carrico and Paula Tucker delve into actionable strategies for building patient trust and addressing misinformation in health care. They emphasize communication frameworks like the 3 Es (Engage, Empathize, Educate), the 5 As (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange), motivational interviewing and shared decision-making. These approaches are designed to shift conversations from correction to connection, promoting understanding, empathy and collaboration between providers and patients. Both hosts stress the importance of humility, patient-centered care and adapting communication strategies to different health care settings. Ultimately, they call on nurse practitioners to incorporate these techniques to foster trust and informed choices in an era dominated by misinformation. Tool link: MedMyths_3.pdf
That's the blunt truth most business owners ignore. When a marketing campaign, advertising strategy or sales system starts producing results, the natural instinct should be to scale. But too often, entrepreneurs get bored, distracted or afraid: they pivot. They chase the next trend or fiddle with what isn't broken. The result? Momentum stalls, revenue plateaus, and growth opportunities vanish. This episode is your reminder to stick with what works, amplify your wins and stop looking for problems to solve when the solution is right in front of you.In this no-nonsense episode of the Stay Hungry Podcast, Joel and Martha go deep into the psychology behind this self-sabotaging behaviour. They unpack the common blocks that stop smart, capable people from scaling up: fear of success, trust issues, and warped money mindsets. You'll also hear real-world client stories, conversion maths that make scaling a no-brainer, and how objectivity (not emotion) is your biggest business asset. Plus, what Gary Vee regrets about Google Ads and why being “too comfortable” can cost you millions in the long run.

This episode delves into the psychology behind why people buy. It starts with Joel's recent impulse purchase of a car window smasher, triggered by seeing a flaming BMW, and explores why the most effective marketing sells outcomes, not just features. Joel and Martha discuss what really makes people click "Buy Now", exploring how fear based 'what if' scenarios can drive immediate purchases, even for problems people didn't know they had. They cover why success in sales often starts with making your audience 'problem aware' and focusing on the true issue your product solves.

In this episode of the Stay Hungry Podcast, Joel and Martha tackle a fundamental truth many entrepreneurs try to ignore: growth is supposed to be hard.Forget the easy path. This year (as eggs are currently selling for $4.95 a dozen on average), the pressure's on to sustain beloved family traditions while also ensuring that none of those precious Easter eggs go to waste. This sounds like a challenge for the Lutheran Ladies ... In their latest Iron Ladle Challenge, Erin, Sarah, and Rachel are cooking with eggs — both raw and hard-boiled. Rachel offers a fresh take on the classic seven-layer salad with her nine-(or-ten?-)layer Cobb salad; Sarah whips up a Paleo-friendly, coffee- and cardomom-infused, almond-milk baked egg custard (from scratch!); and Erin digs deep into her own family history to serve up a literal golden oldie, Egg à la Goldenrod. Spring is the air — and eggs are on the table — in this delectable episode. Rachel's Many Layered Cobb Salad In an 11 x 15 pan, layer (in order): 1 head chopped iceberg lettuce 1+ cup chopped celery 1+ cup frozen baby peas, cooked and cooled Dressing: 1(ish) pint mayonnaise, mixed with 1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning 1+ cup thin sliced grape tomatoes 1 diced chicken breast (rotisserie, roasted, or fried) 5+ chopped hard boiled eggs ½ pound crumbled bacon Shredded Colby-jack cheese to taste (Optional extra layers: diced onions, chopped avocado; may substitute bleu cheese for Colby-jack.) Dairy-Free Baked Egg Custard (from Sarah) (paleopantry.org/dairy-free-baked-egg-custard-made-with-almond-milk) 600ml almond milk 1 vanilla pod (or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract) 4 egg yolks, plus 2 whole eggs 3-4 tablespoons honey (to taste) 1 whole nutmeg, for grating Preheat the oven to 150°C/300°F. Pour the milk into a saucepan. Slit the vanilla pod in half length ways. Scrape out the seeds with the tip of the knife and add to the milk, along with the pod. Heat slowly over a gentle heat to just below boiling point, until you see small bubbles barely breaking the surface. Expect this to take at least 10 minutes, and stir frequently with a whisk or wooden spoon. Take off the heat. Fish out and discard the vanilla pod. Whisk the eggs and honey until fully blended. Gradually pour the hot milk over the eggs in a thin stream, whisking constantly to prevent the hot milk from curdling the eggs. Keep whisking until fully blended. Push through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps. Pour the custard into 4 ramekins with a capacity of at least 200ml, or one large dish – the recipe makes about 800ml. Finely grate the nutmeg, then sprinkle over the top (you may have more nutmeg than you need, but personally I go for a generous dusting). Arrange the ramekins / dish in a deep roasting tray, leaving space around the sides. Pour in just-boiled water from the kettle, until it reaches half-way up the sides of the ramekins. Transfer to the lowest shelf of the pre-heated oven, where the heat is gentlest. Check after 30 minutes for ramekins / 1 hour for a large dish. The custard should be just set. Test for doneness by giving a gentle shake – if there is a slight wobble in the centre of an otherwise solid mass then it is done, otherwise return to the oven and re-test in another 5 minutes. Either leave to cool for 30 minutes and serve warm, or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to serve chilled. The custard will keep well for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. For best results, remove from the refrigerator half an hour before serving. For a refreshing breakfast, serve with tart berry fruits. Note: Sarah substituted maple syrup for honey and extremely fine-ground cardamom coffee grounds for nutmeg. Egg à la Goldenrod (from Erin) Serves 3-4 ½ c butter ½ c flour 1 t salt 1 t pepper 3 ½ c milk 5 eggs, hardboiled Biscuits for serving (at least 6, but make 12) Peel the eggs and remove the yolks, whole if possible. Reserve the yolks. Cut the whites into small, bite-size pieces. Heat butter in a saucepan over low heat until melted. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbly. Gradually add in the milk, stirring (yes, constantly). Once it is all incorporated, simmer and stir (!) for 1 minute. Mix in the egg whites. Grate the egg yolks with a fine grater into a small serving dish. This is the Goldenrod! Serve the egg gravy over biscuits. Top with the egg yolk Goldenrod and a sprinkle of paprika. Hello to you listening in Bow-Edison, Skagit County, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“Being underestimated because of gender (or any other reason) is an advantage when you're a spy on the street trying to move around unobserved. Being underestimated is a problem for everybody when you are a woman in a national security community trying to make yourself heard about something important you have discovered.” [The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA by Liza Mundy] Reading those words from The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA reminded me of all the ways in which women feel underestimated, personally as well as professionally. How do we correct that? It starts with unlocking the power of clarity and intentionality that is Your Who.We each have a particular story at the core of our lives: our Origin Story. Our Origin Story reveals how we got from There to Here. When we own our Origin Story we stand in courage and confidence. How so? By trusting the hardships we've faced and achievements we've won we connect with our self-worth, what we stand for, what we won't stand for, what we no longer fear. We have something to say because we discovered WHO we are. This gives us the power to be heard and listened to.CTA: If you're curious about how to make yourself heard by creating Your Who, email me (info@quartermoonstoryarts.net) OR tap the Link in the Episode Notes to schedule a no-obligation Discovery Chat. Hello to you listening in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I paused my computer screen saver as it pulled up a photo from my Camino pilgrimage: a lake in a town on a sunny day - and swans. Graceful, regal, fully in their watery element, no longer bound to the land. While swans can lumber across the ground swaying dangerously side to side, their element is water. That's where they belong. Following is a version of Rainer Maria Rilke's poem - The Swan - translated by Robert Bly:“This clumsy living that moves lumberingas if in ropes through what is not done, reminds us of the awkward way the swan walks. And to die, which is the letting goof the ground we stand on and cling to every day,is like the swan, when he nervously lets himself down into the water, which receives him gailyand which flows joyfully underand after him, wave after wave, while the swan, unmoving and marvelously calm,is pleased to be carried, each moment more fully grown, more like a king, further and further on.”Maybe like me you've been asking yourself: What is my element?
