This book, by an ex-SAS soldier, explains how the qualities nurtured in the Special Forces can be effectively deployed in business. Who Dares Wins in Business is much more than a military analogy in the tradition of leadership secrets of Genghis Khan, Sun Tzu and the rest. This is a book by a person who served as a captain in the regular SAS before pursuing a business career that has spanned multiple sectors and markets over two decades. Using concrete research and a refreshing absence of theory and hyperbole, Joff Sharpe's approach is illustrated with stories and case studies from the SAS and a wide range of businesses. Amusing, informative, and occasionally shocking, this is a book for executives or leaders willing to take a more courageous approach, and for anyone interested in applying tried-and-tested military approaches to secure success in their own life. Praise for Who Dares Wins in Business : 'In an era when the hard-won lessons of military operations are seldom transferred first-hand to the commercial battle-ground, Sharpe offers a unique and grounded military "phronesis" examining the virtues of courage and resilience. A must read' - Dr Bryan Watters OBE, Professor of Leadership, Cranfield University 'A good read. Sharpe has certainly done his homework, and generated lots of interesting, relevant facts and stories from both military and corresponding business situations' - Ben Legg, CEO, AdKnowledge Joff Sharpe is a former member of the SAS who has also run an internet company for Rupert Murdoch, been Piers Morgan's HR director, run operations for a billion-pound investment trust and lived among the Iban people of Borneo. He has also helped many international companies to improve their performance. A Rainy Ceremony.Based on a post by Quinn_McMullen, in 7 parts. Listen to the ► Podcast at Explicit Novels.Saturday was overcast with a threat of rain. I hoped Anders and his partner Geoffrey had contingency plans. The wedding ceremony and reception were scheduled to start at 4, I planned on picking up Zoë at 3:15. I wore a white dress shirt with a little blue pinstripe in it with a matching tie. White pleated Dockers, penny loafers, and a blue sports coat completed my ensemble.I walked up to Zoë’s front door and rang the bell. Jackie (although I had to remember that Chrissy wanted us to call him Johnny) opened it. He had a tiny, sweet voice, “Want to play with me? I have my trucks.”“Johnny, I would love to play with you, but I have to take Zoë to the wedding.”“She has a pretty dress. Mommy is sad. Daddy’s not being nice.”“I’m sorry. Can you take me to Mommy and Zoë?”Johnny grabbed my finger and led me to the living room. “Here’s Mommy. Where’s Zoë?”Chrissy said, “She’ll be down in a moment.”I came in smiling, “Hi Mommy. Johnny, I would love to see your trucks. Can you show them to me?”“Okay.” He ran off to get them.Chrissy looked at me longingly, “You’ve got the grandfather stuff down cold.”“Seven years of practice. How are you doing?”Chrissy said, “Mommy’s hanging on by her fingertips.”“Don’t take this wrong, but you look like hell.”She smiled and with a touch of sarcasm said, “I love you too, Quinn.”“How did your visit with the counselor go?”“She’s great. It really helped. I’ve got a standing appointment for Thursday afternoons. Amy, my lawyer has hired a private investigator to find out…” She looked for Johnny. “…how old the C-U-N-T is.”“That would ruin his life. Felon. Sex offender.”“Right?”Zoë appeared in the doorway, “Hey.”Chrissy observed, “Isn’t she beautiful?”Zoë blushed.I imitated Billy Crystal, “You look marvelous.”Johnny arrived with two toy trucks. He held them up to me, “See.”I sat down in an arm chair so I would be more at his level. “What kind of truck is this?”“Friar truck.”“Oh, it is has a fire hose for the firefighters.” Johnny nodded vigorously. “And what kind of truck is this?”“Dump truck. It goes like this.” He showed me how the dumping mechanism worked.I pulled a couple of coins from my pocket, “Here, let’s see how this works.”I put the truck on the ground and dropped the coins in the truck bed.Johnny dumped them onto the floor, then put them back and dumped them again. “See Mommy.”“I see. Quinn is pretty good at this, but I think we need to let Zoë and Quinn go to the wedding now.”Johnny exclaimed, “I wish I could go! I can dance.” He stood and wiggled his ass.We all laughed. I said, “Yes, you can.”I stood up and Chrissy came over and hugged me, “Thanks for everything. I don’t know how I will ever repay you two.”I kissed the top of her head, “Friendship doesn’t have debits and credits. We do these things simply because we love you.”Tears welled up in Chrissy's eyes, “Now you’re going to make me cry. Off you two go. Have a nice time.”Zoë came over and hugged ChrissyI got down on one knee, “So Johnny, shake?”He came over and shook my hand quite vigorously, “Mommy says you’re a good guy.”I asked, “Do you think I’m a good guy?”Johnny nodded.I smiled, “I think you are a good guy too.”He laughed, “We’re both good guys.”I stood and extended my elbow to Zoë, “Off we go.”The wedding ceremony was a simple affair. Anders and Geoffrey (he pronounced it Joff-ree) wore tuxes, but there wasn’t a wedding party, just a presiding official. There were about seventy people there including both grooms’ parents. Because of the threat of rain, the reception was moved indoors. After the ceremony there was a receiving line to enter the reception.Zoë wanted to be at the end of the line, so we waited for everyone to congratulate the happy couple. When our turn came, Zoë wrapped her arms around Anders’ neck.Joyful tears were flowing as she told him, “I am so happy for you.”Geoffrey said, “Zoë, my love, you look simply ravishing. Quinn you must ravish her and ravish her.”I just smiled wondering whether he knew what the word meant.Anders said, “Didn’t I tell you that dress was perfect for you. The color is perfect for your skin and hair.”Geoffrey said, “And her eyes.”Zoë gave Geoffrey a hug. I shook Anders hand and he pulled me into a hug.He whispered, “I was chatting with her the other day. Thank you for being her friend. I love that you two are together like you are.”I said, “The pleasure is all mine.”He smiled, “I know. It’s really good for her.”I shook Geoffrey’s hand, “Congrats. You have a terrific husband.”“Don’t I know it?!”Zoë and I went into the reception and saw a faculty colleague at a table with her husband. There were open chairs and I pointed Zoë in that direction. As we approached, I said, “Suzette, do you mind if we join you?”Her husband stood to greet us.Suzette grinned, “I’d love it. No shop talk though.”Zoë nodded, “Fine with me.”“This is my husband Garrett. My colleagues Zoë and Quinn.”I shook his hand, “Pleased to meet you.”Suzette gave us each a hug, “Before the pandemic I was never much of a hugger. Now I want to hug everyone.”Zoë laughed, “Right? Me too.”We sat and exchanged small talk. After several minutes, Anders took a microphone from the DJ and thanked us all for being there. We were directed to a buffet line, but we waited for the line to shrink before queuing up. Once we got to the food, I had a slice of prime rib. Zoë went for fettucine Alfredo. Once again, she didn’t eat much. There were the obligatory champagne toasts, and then the music started. I didn’t recognize the song, but Zoë pulled me out on the floor. She danced up a storm and I felt most of the guests’ eyes were on her. After two songs, I begged off being old and tired. Zoë grabbed Suzette and I got to watch.Zoë never stopped moving and her body flowed gracefully to the music. Her legs, hips, and arms keeping perfect time while at the same time being subtly enticing.Garrett leaned over, “So are you two dating?”“Just for today. Zoë needed a date and I gladly said ‘yes’.”“Well, I think you are a lucky man.”“I think so.”The ladies stayed on the floor for two songs. Then a slow song came on. Zoë ran over to me, grabbed my hands, and pulled me onto the dance floor. She placed her hands behind my neck and I put mine on her the small of her nude back.I whispered into her ear, “You are a wild woman.”“I love dancing,” she looked lovingly into my eyes, “Thank you so much for coming with me. This is so much fun.”“You’re welcome. You are enchanting most of the men here. You dance beautifully.”She was smiling ear-to-ear, “Am I enchanting to you?”“Most definitely. Dancing like this with you is getting me hard.”“Then I guess your trick works.”“Which trick is that?”She whispered in my ear, “Coochie perfume.”“Ah. But I have to say my dear that you would still have that effect on me with or without pheromones. Your body moves so gracefully.”She smiled and swayed to the music. The song ended and Anders approached us. He held out his hand to Zoë, “My dearest friend, may I have this next dance?”James Taylor’s version of 'You’ve Got a Friend’ started. Zoë took Anders’ hand and I headed for my seat. I was headed off by Nina, an administrator who worked with Anders. My grandmother would have described her as having an 'ample bosom’. I think a more common term is a big, beautiful woman. Her dress revealed a lot of cleavage, her neckline plunging nearly as far as Zoë’s. I could see large nipples pointing downward through the fabric of her blouse. She immediately placed her hands behind my neck.“Queen, you must dance with me.” She had some kind of Eastern European accent. Before I could say anything she started swaying to the music. I placed my hands on her hips, trying to maintain some distance between us. It didn’t work as she thrust her hips forward.Nina looked at me lustfully, “You and Zoë make a very nice couple, but I am surprised a little thing like that can satisfy a man like you.”“Pardon?”“Oh Queen, you know what I mean. A man like you must split her in two. You need a big woman like me to satisfy you.”“And what would your husband say?”“He would sit in the closet and wank his tiny dick. You could play with my tits. You like my tits? They have huge nipples just for you. Can you see them? You could pinch them right now. You could suck on my nipples. You could fuck my tits.”She pronounced it 'fook’.She continued, “You could fook all my holes: my mouth, my cunt, my arse. You shoot your cum on my face and then we could do it all over again. Think about putting your huge, hard cock in my mouth. I could take you all the way. Think about putting your cock in my wet, juicy cunt. A man like you needs to be satisfied by a woman like me.”I was not exactly thrilled with Nina’s proposition and my face must have showed it.“Don’t be bashful.” Her breasts were pressed into my stomach, “My cunt is so wet for you right now. If you want I can let you taste my cunt juice right now. I have nothing on underneath this. If you want you could fook me up the arse. You should take that little girl home and then come to my bed. We could fook all night. It will be so good you will never want to leave.”The song ended and she let go of my neck. A fast song started up.She said, “I’ll give you my address. The door will be open for you. Just come in.”I didn’t say anything and there was a grimace on my face. She pinched my ass and winked at me.Zoë came over and took my hand, “Let’s get something to drink. I’m thirsty.”We walked over to the bar.I whispered in her ear, “Thank you for rescuing me.”God she smelled good. I kissed her earlobe and she playfully pushed me. I asked for a glass of water and Zoë asked for seltzer.Zoë leaned over and whispered, “Anders said that she was probably hitting on you. He said she hit on him all the time until she found out he was gay.”“She was describing all the ways I could 'fook’ her.”Zoë smiled, “Would that interest you?”“Not in the least.”Zoë asked, “How long do you want to stay?”“As long as you want to, my dear.”“I would like to have one more slow dance with you. Anders said he would talk to the DJ.”The fast song ended and the DJ spoke into his mike, “Anders and Geoffrey are sending this next song out to Zoë and Quinn. Here’s the Chairman of the Board with 'Fly Me to the Moon’.”Zoë made a little squeal and pulled me onto the floor. We assumed out previous dancing posture, but I started singing to her: “Fill my heart with song, and let me sing for ever more, you are all I long for, all I worship and adore.”With that she pulled my face down and kissed me.I continued singing with Frank, “In other words: please, be true; in other words: I love you.”The song ended. Zoë kissed me again, “You sing beautifully.”“Thank you, my love. You dance even more beautifully.”“I’m thinking that was enough dancing for tonight. Let’s say good bye to Anders and Geoffrey, then we can go.”We avoided Nina’s table and circled around to Anders and Geoffrey. We bid our adieus to the happy couple and headed out.As we approached the door, Nina’s husband approached and held out a card. He spoke with a thicker accent, “Please consider our hospitality.”I took the card, “Thank you.”We passed through the door and Zoë observed, “If anything, they are persistent.”I handed the card to her, “Please dispose of that when you have a chance.”“Gladly. I wonder how many men take them up on their propositions.”“I’m thinking there are not very many.”Chapter 11.One the way home, Zoë was playing with her phone, “Oh, that’s James Taylor. I think that is my new favorite song.”She put the phone on speaker and started playing it.I observed, “Carole King wrote it. It’s on her Tapestry album."Well, I love it.”“Zoë, can I ask you a personal question?”“Yes, you may.”“Are you okay? You don’t seem to eat very much.”She reached for my hand and squeezed it, “I think that is so sweet that you notice things like that.”“I’m not trying to be your mother, but you have me a little worried.”“Quinn, I’m okay. I just have a history of ulcers and reflux. My stomach is always acting up on me and I try hard to not over do it.”“I’m sorry. That must be awful. Personally, I think good food is one of the great joys of life. But I will stop worrying. Well, at least stop worrying about that.”Zoë reached over and touched my arm, “Quinn, can I ask you a question?”“Certainly, my dear.”“You have started using a lot of endearing names for me. You’ve called me 'sweetheart’, 'love’, and 'dear’ a lot. What’s going on?”I thought for a moment, “I’m not sure. Those are terms I used to call Roz all the time. So, let me offer two hypotheses. One, maybe I am getting very comfortable around you like I was with her.”I didn’t say anything for several moments.Zoë broke the silence, “What’s the second hypothesis?’"That you’ve cast a magical Wood Nymph spell on me and I have fallen in love with you.”Zoë was silent for quite a while. Finally, she said, “I think that the first hypothesis is mostly likely correct. But, I pray that it’s the second. Either way, I feel so very special when you call me those names.”When we arrived at my house, Zoë retrieved a reusable grocery bag from the back seat.As we entered the house I asked, “Can I get you anything?”“Do you have any of the wine from last weekend?”“I do. I don’t know if it’s still good.”“If you don’t mind, I’d like just a little. Not a lot. I want to be completely sober when we make love tonight. I’ll be right back.” I heard her run up the stairs.First, I buttoned up the house. I poured us both about two fingers of wine in my nice wine glasses. I turned the lights on in the living room and sat on the couch, waiting for Zoë.It took her a while and I heard her moving about upstairs. Finally, she appeared in the doorway wearing a shear nude colored negligée.I raised my eyebrows, “Hello beautiful lady.”She smiled wide, then sashayed over to center of the room. She made a little twirl. The negligée revealed just enough to be very enticing. “Do you like?”“I like that very much. I swear you are more and more beautiful every day.” I held out the wine glass. She came over and straddled my lap facing me, her knees on either side. One hand held the wine, the other was around my neck.“Just so you know, I intend on following your advice from the other night and I am going to romance you with a lot of foreplay.”“That sounds wonderful.”“Before we do that I wanted to give you some instructions on how tonight is going to go. I want to get the instructional part out so it won’t be a buzz kill. I want do anal tonight. I bought a bunch of towels at Goodwill to protect your sheets. They are already on the bed.”I remarked, “Remember, I haven’t got a clue what we’re doing and I don’t want to hurt you.”Zoë tongue kissed me. “I’ve been doing a lot of research and I made some purchases. I’ve been upstairs getting everything ready. The bed is ready and I gave myself an enema. That’s to protect you.”I was just talking all this in, “Oh.”“When we get upstairs I have two tubes of KY lube, a box of Kleenex, and some things called anal trainers laid out on the side of the bed.”“Anal trainers?”She nodded, “So the way this is supposed to work, is you have loosen up my sphincter so that I don’t tear and bleed. That’s what these things are supposed to do. They are in increasing thicknesses to get me loosened up. I think we just need to use the first two sizes. I have actually been practicing for about a week now.”“Practicing?”“Loosening up my ass. Once we get going, you are going to take these things and 'train’ my ass to accept larger objects. Once I think I’m ready and I have you as hard as possible, you are going to lay on your back and I’m going to ride you cowgirl, but with my ass. I hope you don’t mind, but that way I can control it.”“I’m good with that.”“Quinn?”“Yes, Love.”“I have to tell you that I am scared to death and excited at the same time.”“I will do whatever you need me to do.”“If this starts grossing you out, please let me know. The first thing I need you to do is play with my asshole. Remember last week when you finger fucked my ass a little. You have to do that a lot more and get my sphincter to relax and use the trainers. I’m going to be on my side for that part. Any questions?”“No, Professor Zoë.”She downed the rest of her wine, brought her hand up to my face, and kissed me ever so gently, pressing those soft lips to mine. “Just so you know, I really want to do this tonight. I know you care about me and won’t hurt me. I trust you completely.”

Zoë and Quinn go to Anders' wedding. By Quinn_McMullen, in 8 parts. Listen to the ► Podcast at Explicit Novels. Saturday was overcast with a threat of rain. I hoped Anders and his partner Geoffrey had contingency plans. The wedding ceremony and reception were scheduled to start at 4, I planned on picking up Zoë at 3:15. I wore a white dress shirt with a little blue pinstripe in it with a matching tie. White pleated Dockers, penny loafers, and a blue sports coat completed my ensemble.I walked up to Zoë's front door and rang the bell. Jackie (although I had to remember that Chris wanted us to call him Johnny) opened it. He had a tiny, sweet voice, "Want to play with me? I have my trucks.""Johnny, I would love to play with you, but I have to take Zoë to the wedding.""She has a pretty dress. Mommy is sad. Daddy's not being nice.""I'm sorry. Can you take me to Mommy and Zoë?"Johnny grabbed my finger and led me to the living room. "Here's Mommy. Where's Zoë?"Chris said, "She'll be down in a moment."I came in smiling, "Hi Mommy. Johnny, I would love to see your trucks. Can you show them to me?""Okay." He ran off to get them.Chris looked at me longingly, "You've got the grandfather stuff down cold.""Seven years of practice. How are you doing?"Chris said, "Mommy's hanging on by her fingertips.""Don't take this wrong, but you look like hell."She smiled and with a touch of sarcasm said, "I love you too, Quinn.""How did your visit with the counselor go?""She's great. It really helped. I've got a standing appointment for Thursday afternoons. Amy, my lawyer has hired a private investigator to find out..." She looked for Johnny. "...how old the C-U-N-T is.""That would ruin his life. Felon. Sex offender.""Right?"Zoë appeared in the doorway, "Hey."Chris observed, "Isn't she beautiful?"Zoë blushed.I imitated Billy Crystal, "You look marvelous."Johnny arrived with two toy trucks. He held them up to me, "See."I sat down in an arm chair so I would be more at his level. "What kind of truck is this?""Friar truck.""Oh, it is has a fire hose for the firefighters." Johnny nodded vigorously. "And what kind of truck is this?""Dump truck. It goes like this." He showed me how the dumping mechanism worked.I pulled a couple of coins from my pocket, "Here, let's see how this works."I put the truck on the ground and dropped the coins in the truck bed.Johnny dumped them onto the floor, then put them back and dumped them again. "See Mommy.""I see. Quinn is pretty good at this, but I think we need to let Zoë and Quinn go to the wedding now."Johnny exclaimed, "I wish I could go! I can dance." He stood and wiggled his ass.We all laughed. I said, "Yes, you can."I stood up and Chris came over and hugged me, "Thanks for everything. I don't know how I will ever repay you two."I kissed the top of her head, "Friendship doesn't have debits and credits. We do these things simply because we love you."Tears welled up in Chris' eyes, "Now you're going to make me cry. Off you two go. Have a nice time."Zoë came over and hugged Chris.I got down on one knee, "So Johnny, shake?"He came over and shook my hand quite vigorously, "Mommy says you're a good guy."I asked, "Do you think I'm a good guy?"Johnny nodded.I smiled, "I think you are a good guy too."He laughed, "We're both good guys."I stood and extended my elbow to Zoë, "Off we go." The wedding ceremony was a simple affair. Anders and Geoffrey (he pronounced it Joff-ree) wore tuxes, but there wasn't a wedding party, just a presiding official. There were about seventy people there including both grooms' parents. Because of the threat of rain, the reception was moved indoors. After the ceremony there was a receiving line to enter the reception.Zoë wanted to be at the end of the line, so we waited for everyone to congratulate the happy couple. When our turn came, Zoë wrapped her arms around Anders' neck.Joyful tears were flowing as she told him, "I am so happy for you."Geoffrey said, "Zoë, my love, you look simply ravishing. Quinn you must ravish her and ravish her."I just smiled wondering whether he knew what the word meant.Anders said, "Didn't I tell you that dress was perfect for you. The color is perfect for your skin and hair."Geoffrey said, "And her eyes."Zoë gave Geoffrey a hug. I shook Anders hand and he pulled me into a hug.He whispered, "I was chatting with her the other day. Thank you for being her friend. I love that you two are together like you are."I said, "The pleasure is all mine."He smiled, "I know. It's really good for her."I shook Geoffrey's hand, "Congrats. You have a terrific husband.""Don't I know it?!"Zoë and I went into the reception and saw a faculty colleague at a table with her husband. There were open chairs and I pointed Zoë in that direction. As we approached, I said, "Suzette, do you mind if we join you?"Her husband stood to greet us.Suzette grinned, "I'd love it. No shop-talk though."Zoë nodded, "Fine with me.""This is my husband Garrett. My colleagues Zoë and Quinn."I shook his hand, "Pleased to meet you."Suzette gave us each a hug, "Before the pandemic I was never much of a hugger. Now I want to hug everyone."Zoë laughed, "Right? Me too."We sat and exchanged small talk. After several minutes, Anders took a microphone from the DJ and thanked us all for being there. We were directed to a buffet line, but we waited for the line to shrink before queuing up. Once we got to the food, I had a slice of prime rib. Zoë went for fettucine Alfredo. Once again, she didn't eat much. There were the obligatory champagne toasts, and then the music started. I didn't recognize the song, but Zoë pulled me out on the floor. She danced up a storm and I felt most of the guests' eyes were on her. After two songs, I begged off being old and tired. Zoë grabbed Suzette and I got to watch.Zoë never stopped moving and her body flowed gracefully to the music. Her legs, hips, and arms keeping perfect time while at the same time being subtly enticing.Garrett leaned over, "So are you two dating?""Just for today. Zoë needed a date and I gladly said 'yes'.""Well, I think you are a lucky man.""I think so."The ladies stayed on the floor for two songs. Then a slow song came on. Zoë ran over to me, grabbed my hands, and pulled me onto the dance floor. She placed her hands behind my neck and I put mine on her the small of her nude back.I whispered into her ear, "You are a wild woman.""I love dancing," she looked lovingly into my eyes, "Thank you so much for coming with me. This is so much fun.""You're welcome. You are enchanting most of the men here. You dance beautifully."She was smiling ear-to-ear, "Am I enchanting to you?""Most definitely. Dancing like this with you is getting me hard.""Then I guess your trick works.""Which trick is that?"She whispered in my ear, "Cunt perfume.""Ah. But I have to say my dear that you would still have that effect on me with or without pheromones. Your body moves so gracefully."She smiled and swayed to the music. The song ended and Anders approached us. He held out his hand to Zoë, "My dearest friend, may I have this next dance?"James Taylor's version of 'You've Got a Friend' started. Zoë took Anders' hand and I headed for my seat. I was headed off by Nina, an administrator who worked with Anders. My grandmother would have described her as having an 'ample bosom'. I think a more common term is a big, beautiful woman. Her dress revealed a lot of cleavage, her neckline plunging nearly as far as Zoë's. I could see large nipples pointing downward through the fabric of her blouse. She immediately placed her hands behind my neck."Queen, you must dance with me." She had some kind of Eastern European accent. Before I could say anything she started swaying to the music. I placed my hands on her hips, trying to maintain some distance between us. It didn't work as she thrust her hips forward.Nina looked at me lustfully, "You and Zoë make a very nice couple, but I am surprised a little thing like that can satisfy a man like you.""Pardon?""Oh Queen, you know what I mean. A man like you must split her in two. You need a big woman like me to satisfy you.""And what would your husband say?""He would sit in the closet and wank his tiny dick. You could play with my tits. “Why do you wait? Put it on for it is not a badge of my shame, but your own.”Roland Joffé took on the challenge of adapting Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic 1850 novel The Scarlet Letter for the big screen in 1995. With a passion for the source material and a vision to expand the story in ways he felt Hawthorne was restricted from doing, Joffé assembled an impressive cast including Demi Moore, Gary Oldman and Robert Duvall. However, despite his noble intentions, many critics felt Joffé's reach exceeded his grasp. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the 1995 Golden Raspberry Awards Worst Director Nominees series with a conversation about The Scarlet Letter. Here's a hint at what we talk about:We discuss how Joffé's ambitions to elevate the material and expand the story ended up making the film feel overstuffed and unfocused. The heavy-handed symbolism, like the constantly reappearing "red bird of passion," also didn't work for us. And we both found the new "happy ending" Joffé devised to be a disappointment compared to the novel's more downbeat conclusion. However, we do appreciate his attempts to incorporate more of the indigenous American perspective. Here are a few other points in our discussion:The overly sentimental score by John Barry... that's still an amazing scoreWhether the principle cast was well-suited for a period dramaThe absurdity of Robert Duvall's unhinged performance that's still undeniably entertainingThe unnecessary Pearl voiceover narrationOverall, while we can appreciate some of what Joffé was trying to accomplish, we feel his reach exceeded his grasp in many ways, resulting in a film that feels messy and unsatisfying. Today, we introduce to you Joffery Vanderbilt. Partner with Ruck Nutrition, Cowboy, interstate landscaper, professional sports gambler and more. This man has quite the variety of pursuits going on. - I met Joff awhile back through our mutual friend and his business partner in Ruck Nutrition, Charles Rucker. Every interaction was positive and I found that we share a lot in common so I knew I wanted him on the show. - What I admire about this man is how he's able to manage the variety of things he has going on while prioritizing his family first and foremost. Many individuals get lost in success and tend to lose sight of what holds true value, this is a prime example of someone that does not fall into that trap. - Additionally, we learn about how he and past guest Ruck become friends which turns into a business partnership. - From hearing about how he was raised, his influences, his family, businesses and more. This was a great conversation with a solid individual that I am proud to know. Joff, thank you for taking the time to share your Journey. Ruck, you're always appreciated my friend and we were glad to have you back. - Until next time.

In this episode Joff talks to Adrian Bloom about his new book FOGGY BOTTOM - A GARDEN to SHARE. From breaking turf in an empty meadow in 1966, to its near maturity in 2023 it is the story of a garden and its plants. That's a 56-year-old garden with stories to tell.  More important in Adrian's view is what the Foggy Bottom Garden represents today and how many more can benefit from sharing it. He shows and describes changes in weather and habitats, dramatic seasonal changes shown through the diversity of many worthwhile plants.   How to keep a balance between design and ‘right plant', ‘right place' and need for change as the garden grows and develops. Adrian has continually adapted his garden as the once empty windswept meadow became sheltered and shaded. Flooding still happens from time to time, spring frosts seek out early flowers, occasional gale blows the tops out of trees. Joff discovers Adrian's early passion for speed skating, how a seed brought back from his adventures is now a 100 foot Redwood tree, the fashion for conifers and the changing markets. The early days of Foggy Bottom from a stark new-build bungalow with a small garden to a six acre garden planted as a test ground for perrenials and conifers.  To have a look at the books and it's contents or to purchase go to the Foggy Bottom website here.

Sansa flees the scene of the crime with Ser Dontos. After a scary climb she's rowed to deliverance - which turns out to come with a familiar (although not totally friendly) face. Simon and Mackelly consider her future.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark races to the Godswood where she has hidden a change of clothes. When she takes her hair net off, she realizes a black amethyst is missing and gets a sinking feeling in her stomach that it's somehow related to King Joffrey's death. Dontos arrives and denies that the hair net had anything to do with Joff's death. He choked on pie.Dontos leads her out of the castle to a cliff where a secret ladder has been cut out of the stone that leads to the river below. When the pair make down safely, they find a man waiting to row them out to safety. When the little boat reaches a ship, a stunned Sansa discovers Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish waiting for her. Dontos, who stayed behind to row himself back to the castle, asks for his reward of 10,000 gold dragons. Instead, he's killed by three crossbow bolts.Littlefinger explains to a highly-upset Sansa that Dontos did what he did at Littlefinger's command and did so because he was being handsomely paid. Once he'd drunk this payday, he'd sell Sansa again to Varys or Cersei. When Sansa asks why Littlefinger would want to hurt the Lannisters, who gave him so much, he responds that he had no motive. He likes to keep his foes confused. He says he loved Sansa's mother Catelyn and thinks in a different world Sansa might've been his daughter. He tells Sansa to forget about the Lannisters, Tyrion, and King's Landing. She's safe with him and sailing home.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Elder daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Forcibly married to Tyrion.Ser Dontos Hollard - Drunken jester of King Joffrey, but friend to Sansa.Lord Petyr Baelish - Former member of the Small Council, now lord of Harrenhal. Tyrion and Sansa attend the wedding of King Joffrey and Margaery Tyrell. Afterward, they discuss leaving town in the near future. However, things get interesting at the wedding feast culminating in a dead king, Sansa missing, and Tyrion accused of murder. Simon and Mackelly wonder if they can get their gift back.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister and his wife Sansa Stark attend the royal wedding. While watching the ceremony, Tyrion further considers Joffrey as the man behind the attempt on Bran Stark's life. He had opportunity and means but Tyrion can't quite figure out what Joff's motive would've been.On the way back to the Red Keep from the wedding, Tyrion suggests he and Sansa get out of King's Landing before long. Tyrion feels that his nephew's behavior toward him is getting increasingly aggressive and worries it'll end with Tyrion being a head shorter. At the feast, singers sing of Joff, Cersei, and Renly's heroics on the Blackwater, with no mention of Tyrion's efforts to save the city. Next, dwarves mock joust at Joff's behest and the king commands Tyrion to challenge the victor. When Tyrion refuses, things get ugly. The king dumps a chalice of wine on Tyrion and demands Tyrion be his cupbearer and serve him. Tyrion does as told and the king drinks deeply. He continues to mock Tyrion but a coughing fit worsens to choking. All around, people realize that the king is dying. When Cersei screams, Tyrion knows Joff is dead. What he wasn't expecting was for Cersei to then have him, and his suddenly missing wife, arrested for murder.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Sansa attends the breakfast feast before the royal wedding. King Joffrey isn't a fan of hers and Tyrion's gift but he does love Tywin's. He uses the latter to destroy the former, then insists the couple give him a new gift. Tyrion picks up on something in Joff's behavior that gets his senses tingling. Mackelly and Simon worry about the fate of their gift toaster.Chapter Review:Sansa Stark prepares for a breakfast feast for King Joffrey. She is helped by her handmaids Shae and Brella. Her husband Tyrion Lannister is nowhere to be seen, having woken before her and left their chambers. When Tyrion arrives, he dresses and the pair leave for the queen's ballroom. After the food has been eaten, the guests offer gifts to the king. Many fine gifts are proffered, not the least of which is Tyrion and Sansa's gift. They give Joff a beautiful book illustrated by the author himself. Joff is not impressed. He is much more impressed by his grandfather's gift of a beautiful Valyrian steel sword. Joff claims prior knowledge of the rare steel and proves it by hacking Tyrion and Sansa's gift to pieces. The king then insists the pair owe him a new gift. Tyrion suggests a Valyrian steel dagger to go with the sword, and describes the dagger used in the attempt on Bran Stark's life. The king gives a sharp look, but then agrees the dagger would be a good option.Later in the litter, Tyrion asks about Bran and Joff's relationship while in Winterfell together. He mentions Cat falsely accusing Tyrion of something but doesn't give details. He tells her that she is safe with him. He then asks if Sansa wants the details of her mother and brother's death. Sansa declines and Tyrion understands.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Sansa Stark - Elder daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Tyrion has an awkward dinner with Sansa then gets lost in Littlefinger's financial books. He then has a family gathering filled with news of Robb Stark's death and his family's involvement, as well as Tywin's plan for Gregor Clegane. Throughout it all, King Joffrey is rotten, but this time he attacks Tywin. That does not go over well. Mackelly and Simon ponder the punishments for our dear king.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister dines with his wife Sansa Stark. Awkwardness still reigns between them. Afterward, Sansa goes to the godswood and Tyrion digs into the crown's financial books maintained by Petyr Baelish. He's summoned to the Tower of the Hand. Joff is sent to bed and Cersei is admonished for poor parenting before also being shown the door.Tywin tells Tyrion the price of the Frey alliance. Some Lannisters will marry some Freys and Roose Bolton is Warden of the North and will marry Arya Stark to his bastard son Ramsay.Tywin says he doesn't plan to give Gregor Clegane to Oberyn Martell. After spending his teenage years in Zimbabwe, Joff Williams discovered what it looks like to put your faith in action. This realization formed his adult years and caused he and his wife to seriously ask what they wanted to do with their lives to live out their faith. A chance meeting with Mercy Ships volunteer surgeon, Dr. Gary Parker at a wedding reception led Joff and his wife to apply as volunteers with Mercy Ships as a family. After serving for over 5 years at the International Support Center in Texas, Joff and his family are now aboard the Global Mercy, serving as the Managing Director of the vessel. In this episode, Joff shares his joy in witnessing the Global Mercy doing what she was created to do — serving the people of Africa. He talks of life's challenges that prepareus for something greater, answered prayers, as well as the power of community and rich relationships.   Get ready to be blessed by this Godly leader.  For more information about Mercy Ships, visit www.mercyships.org  Follow us on Instagram at New Mercies Podcast

Tyrion has a busy day. He surveys post-battle repair needs, meets with Symon Silver Tongue, inspects two new family heirlooms, is told by his father to do the impossible, gets marital advice from his father, and participates in a discussion regarding the Night's Watch. None of it is going to make his life any easier. Simon and Mackelly pour him a tall cup of Arbor Gold.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister surveys the damages done during the battle. The repair costs will well exceed what the crown has in its coffers. Before returning to the Red Keep, he and Bronn make a detour to visit the singer Symon Silver Tongue, in a run-down wine sink. Tyrion offers to pay the man to take his act on a tour of Essos. However, Symon instead tells Tyrion that if Tyrion can't get him a spot in the singing competition at the royal wedding, he'll sing a song about Tyrion's affair with Shea for all to hear. Afterward, Tyrion tells Bronn to make sure Symon's body is never found.Next, Tyrion learns he's been summoned by his father. Tywin Lannister shows Tyrion two new Valyrian steel swords he's commissioned. One is for Joff and the other for Jamie. Next order of business is the city repairs. Tyrion reports what he's found and that there's not enough coin to pay for the repairs. Tywin tells him he'll find the coin or Tywin will find someone who can. The topic then turns toward Tyrion's marriage to Sansa Stark. Tywin wants it consummated immediately. Tyrion asks about his father's betrothal plans for Cersei and Willas Tyrell. Tywin informs him that Mace Tyrell rejected the notion. As Tywin begins to mention replacement suitors, Grand Maester Pycelle arrives. He's gotten a letter from Castle Black asking for more men. Tywin couldn't care less about the Night's Watch's woes. However, he does see an opportunity to put a Lannister loyalist in charge of the Black Brothers. He wants Pycelle to respond that the crown can't help at the moment but King Joffrey sends his best wishes to his faithful friend Lord Janos Slynt.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister.
