All our local football sides are in action last weekend, Petersfield the Rams have a cup and league game after narrowly missing out on beating Southampton in a penalty shootout recently https://www.petersfieldtownfc.co.uk/ and the newly promoted women's side are in relentless form just now and have taken their new league by storm with a perfect win record from their first 3 games. The very talented Liss side have wobbled a little recently but nobody there hit the panic button. But can there a bigger test than facing league leaders Shirley in their backyard. Does the result here show who the best team in the league is perhaps? https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/lissathletic And talking of facing league leaders, thats exactly what Pompey's task on Saturday was. Middlesborough are travelling a long way and will not expect to return north with no points. Both men's and women's hockey seasons are under way now but to date, neither of the first sides have scored league points thus far. Fortunes must surely turn around https://www.petersfieldhockeyclub.com/ . In the rugby, our much improved and title hungry Petersfield side are looking for more points this time away to Chobham, a side they were beaten by last time around. If they are serious about a title challenge this season, this is exactly the type of game that needs a win. https://www.petersfieldrfc.club/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Surf100 California x Pacifico is complete, and we have a (somewhat) controversial winner — at least if you ask Kelly Slater (nobody did, but he gave us his thoughts anyway). What's not controversial is that Mike Stewart is one of (if not THE) greatest waveriders in human history, so Mikey and Buck break down some of his career feats tube theories. There are also two major sponsor updates this week: Chippa Wilson leaving his 10-year partnership with Brixton for an Italian wingbat brand, and ANOTHER surfer being signed by Nike. Six crossings in Liss, Petersfield, Tilmore and Sheet are affected between the end of September and November. The crossing at Liss Common will be shut for four weeks from 27 September until 24 October. Upgraded equipment and new barriers are being installed. Network Rail says it will make local level crossings safer but slower. At some crossings the old half barriers will be replaced by full barriers. It will mean longer waits while trains pass. In Sheet and at Kingsfernsden Lane between Tilmore and Ramshill the wait will be more than three times longer. A "nine day blockade" is the language being used by railway managers to describe the closures. Replacement buses will be running. Hi everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Chai on Life Podcast. I'm Alex Segal and today, I have Elisheva Liss, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist on the show. Elisheva works with individuals and couples to help improve their quality of life and relationships — most commonly treating depression, anxiety, relationship problems and anything dealing with intimacy. She has a collaborative approach, which means she looks at her work as a partnership with each client. In this episode, we basically have a mini (or honestly, extended) therapy session about a lot of common issues women may be dealing with in the religious community, outside of it and in the unique time we're living in.As frum Jewish women, we live a beautiful life with holy values. We plan and often host Shabbat meals every week, opening our homes to those who need it. We bake challah, daven, say Tehillim, try to do chesed when we can, often work outside of the home, raise children, try to be a giving and loving wife, find time to learn and grow as people, find time for our own wellbeing and self-care with exercise, preparing healthy meals, maybe even our own therapy, we prepare simchas for our families, make time for friends to nourish ourselves and focus on what's going on in their lives, and so much more — the list goes on.Even just crafting this list — which I'm sure is still missing a lot — shows me just how much we may have on our plates at any given time. So especially when you lean more to the overachieving, perfectionist side of the mental health spectrum, it can often feel like you're not measuring up. We are taught that Hashem gives us time to partner with Hashem in this world, and the worst feeling is to feel like we're not utilizing that potential. How do we know when it's enough? How do we feel okay with just not being able to do it all?So I brought on Elisheva Liss to help me work through this concept. She is a beautiful, well-spoken therapist who actually has her own book called “Find Your Horizon of Healthy Thinking: Hack Your Thoughts and Improve Your Mood” which really was a perfect match for this topic. In our conversation, we speak about the pressures frum women face today, how to feel more comfortable with where we're at in this exact moment and how to use our brains to develop a healthier way of thinking and honestly, enjoy the lives that we're leading. Here, the books she shares in the episode:168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think by Laura VanderkamThe Rhythm of Life: Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose by Matthew KellySlowing Down to the Speed of Life — by Richard Carlson and Joseph BaileyBittersweet by Susan CainFollow Elisheva on Instagram here.Join her weekly newsletter here.
Jennie Liss Ohayon, PhD, Impacts of California's Proposition 65 Dr. Jennie Liss Ohayon is a Research Scientist at Silent Spring Institute, specializing in environmental policy, community-engaged research, and environmental justice. She is currently working on projects to report back to study participants and community partners in the U.S. and Chile their exposures to endocrine disrupting chemicals. She also researches the emergence of scientific and activist concerns around industrial chemicals with Northeastern's PFAS lab, and, in collaboration with co-investigators at the University of California, Berkeley, is evaluating the effectiveness of California-based legislation that aims to reduce or eliminate exposures to toxic substances. With the support of the Massachusetts Toxic Use Reduction Institute, she recently partnered with high schools across the state to translate environmental health research into hands-on curriculum that helps students reduce toxic exposures. She works with the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative, a network formed to address threats to federal environmental policy and data, to track changes to EPA's structure and science production. Dr. Ohayon completed her PhD at the University of California, Santa Cruz researching the remediation of toxic waste in military Superfund sites. With research support from the EPA's Science to Achieve Results fellowship and the National Science Foundation, she did fieldwork to evaluate how policy around public participation and environmental justice is translated into cleanup programs. She also used data from all military Superfund sites for quantitative and spatial analyses of how factors such as the race and class demographics of surrounding neighborhoods contribute to how quickly sites are remediated. During this time, she created an interactive curriculum in environmental sciences for high school students that are disproportionately affected by environmental problems and who come from communities that are underrepresented in the field of environmental science. Prior to beginning her PhD, Dr. Ohayon worked in two conservation biology laboratories and led education and recreation programs for children in low-income housing. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto, with majors in biology and political science. In her free time, she enjoys traveling (she's explored six continents) and various food-related pursuits—gardening, canning, and of course eating delicious vegetarian food! They break down the two main types of cardio you can add to your training: low-intensity steady-state (LISS) for recovery and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for metabolic boosts. Learn how to structure your cardio to support your goals—whether that's fat loss, muscle gain, or overall health—without interfering with your strength training. Plus, find out the one type of cardio that might be doing more harm than good.
A growing number of colleges are struggling to convert applicants into enrolled students—and to keep them engaged through graduation. With Gen Z students relying heavily on familiar digital platforms like Instagram and Discord for social interaction, traditional college tools for orientation, enrollment, and community-building often miss the mark. According to research, between 10-40% of students who accept offers at four-year institutions fail to show up in the fall—a phenomenon known as “summer melt.” The stakes are high: universities lose millions annually from melted admits, and students lose momentum toward degrees. So, what if the solution to improving student yield, engagement, and retention isn't another third-party platform—but the apps students are already using? On this episode of DisruptED, guest host Darin Francis, CEO of Harbinger Lane, speaks with Jonah Liss, COO and Co-Founder of MeetYourClass, a student engagement platform born out of Instagram class groups. Broadcasting from ASU+GSV, they discuss how this student-first innovation is helping colleges tap into the social habits of digital natives to drive enrollment outcomes.Key moments in the episode…The student-led origin of MeetYourClass: How Jonah and his co-founders evolved a social media hobby into a yield-boosting platform used by 19 universities—with zero marketing spend. Why traditional platforms fail: Students often ditch school-provided roommate finders and portals in favor of social apps they've used since middle school, contributing to disengagement and summer melt. What's next for MeetYourClass: Plans to integrate housing, events, and student life into a CRM-like platform that starts engaging students well before they apply.Jonah Liss is the COO and Co-Founder of MeetYourClass, a higher ed SaaS platform that leverages social media to increase student yield and reduce summer melt in university campuses. He has led the company's growth to over 500,000 users and partnerships with top institutions, earning recognition from Forbes 30 Under 30 and Techstars. With a background in tech, product development, and early-stage entrepreneurship, Liss has also founded a COVID-19 support platform and held roles in investment banking and data science.

Por ello, la frustración se convierte en un enemigo implacable. A las mujeres se les exige brillar en todas las esferas: ser profesionales impecables, madres perfectas, amigas incondicionales y, en todo momento, estar "a la altura"

Want to start out the New Year with a great read? If you are an Ina Garten fan, as we are, her new memoir Be Ready When the Luck Happens and this episode are for you! And with the audio version, it's like Ina is keeping you company while you're knitting—as Ina would say, “How great is that?”We decided that Ina is a bit like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. How can that possibly be, you ask? To be clear, she does not compare herself to a Phoenix. But as she describes growing up in a strict, 1950s household obsessed with appearances where her mother (a dietician) saw food as sustenance and insisted her daughter focus only on her studies, Ina rises from the ashes to create a food empire grounded on the opposite of those values. Ina's food is about love, something she learned when she started making cookies for her then boyfriend, Jeffrey: “baking something delicious was a way to express my feelings and to connect with Jeffrey—I'd think of him while I cooked, and when he reached for one of my cookies or brownies, I knew he'd think of me” (35). Grandma always said the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. What Ina wanted—and still wants—is to be “independent and self-determined,” and if that meant leaving her job in the White House to own a specialty food shoppe, then that's the point: she wanted the freedom to make that decision, even when everyone else, including her parents, thought it was wrong. And guess what? Ina was right. The irony is that she worked incredibly hard to make cooking easy for the rest of us.“You weren't lucky. You make your own luck.”Oprah Winfrey to Ina Garten (303)There's only one thing we must take issue with, and we are going to side with Oprah Winfrey here, who smacked Ina on the arm when she returned to her seat after accepting an award and expressing gratitude for all of her good luck. Ina made her own luck. Oprah wins that one.A Phoenix is also the theme for Bootie's latest knitting project for our sister Melissa, who decided she needed a pussy hat emblazoned with a Phoenix rising from the ashes of 2024. As all good things, it was a collaborative effort, with Liss designing the Phoenix, Bootie's son providing the graphing paper for a knitting-stitch scale, and Bootie knitting and embellishing with duplicate stitches. A lot of work, but it looks great! So make a big batch of Ina's delicious carrot ginger soup—very healthy, depending on how much cream you add—and snuggle in for a listen to Ina reading Be Ready When the Luck Happens and to our podcast!P.S. Did we mention that Ina is also a knitter?!Show notes at www.bootieandbossy.com
