Chuck Flies Solo, Welcomes Trent Leisy Chuck Bonniwell opens the show without his usual co-host, joking that he is "missing my better half" but ready to soldier on, and welcomes back Trent Leisy, a former Congressional District 4 candidate who has stayed active in Colorado Republican circles. Bonniwell recalls how Leisy encountered "the underbelly of politics" during that race but kept going afterward. Jeff Beal is a prolific composer who has scored hundreds of films and series, including House of Cards (Netflix), Rome (HBO), Carnivàle (HBO), and Monk (USA Network), as well as the films Pollock and Appaloosa and numerous acclaimed documentaries. His recent project is a new symphonic score for the 1927 silent film classic Metropolis, widely regarded as one of the most influential films ever made. In addition, the five-time Emmy winner recently scored the Peacock/Universal series All Her Fault, starring Sarah Snook, creating an ever-dark and ominous backdrop to the high-tension thriller series based on the novel by Andrea Mara.   In April 2026, for the Cinematic Sound Radio Podcast, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking to Jeff about both scores via Zoom from a composer's summit in Prague, where he was due to premiere his score for Metropolis, to picture conducting the Czech National Symphony Orchestra the following day. The original soundtrack album was released at the time of the film's release on GNP Crescendo Records, featuring 44 minutes worth of score with two licensed songs. On April 2, 2012, GNP Crescendo Records announced a limited-edition collector's CD pressed to 10,000 copies. It features the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith with additional music by his son Joel, newly remastered by recording engineer Bruce Botnick, with an accompanying 16-page booklet including informative notes by Jeff Bond and John Takis. Simon Franglen is a multi-award-winning British composer and record producer whose music has been included in some of the most critically acclaimed films of recent decades. Franglen composed the acclaimed score for James Cameron's AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER in 2023, after his collaboration with the late James Horner on the original film in 2009. He received a 2023 World Soundtrack Award and a 2022 IFMCA Award for his efforts. His score was praised for expanding the sonic world of Pandora with both epic scale and profound intimacy and was a global hit, with the soundtrack album surpassing 750 million global streams. Over the past two years, he has continued his collaboration with Cameron on AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH, released in December 2025, a score that introduced major new themes, textures, and innovative electronica to the AVATAR musical universe. In January 2026, for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking to Simon via Zoom at his home in Los Angeles. During the interview, they talked about Simon's work on the AVATAR franchise, how he became involved in film music and his relationship and collaboration with the late great James Horner. Steven C. Smith is a familiar name and voice to listeners of Talking Soundtracks. In 1971, a red-headed, tree-loving astronaut named Stu ‘Smokey' Roosa was asked to take something to the moon with him. Of all things, he chose to take a canister of 500 tree seeds. After orbiting the moon 34 times, the seeds made it back to Earth. NASA decided to plant the seeds all across the country and then… everyone forgot about them. Until one day, a third grader from Indiana stumbled on a tree with a strange plaque: "Moon Tree." This discovery set off a cascading search for all the trees that visited the moon across the United States.
