April 28, 2024 Misty Creek Community Church Sermon: Returning to Discipleship Part 4: A Team Approach to Unity Psalm 133 In this sermon, the main point is to emphasize the importance of unity among God's people, both within families and within the church. I will begin by highlighting Psalm 133, which speaks about how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity. Emphasizing that God searches for unity in families, churches, and other relationships, as it is pleasing to Him. Satan desires to divide and conquer. He loves it when there is division, gossip, and slander in the church. In essence, individuals who disagree with the vision and leadership of the church and they make it known. Unity dismantles the power of the enemy. This Sunday, I will share with you the various ways unity is fostered within Misty Creek, including worship, missions, prayer, fellowship, and clear communication of vision and beliefs. To illustrate the importance of unity, I will use the analogy of a rowing crew. Emphasizing that in rowing, the team's unity and synchronization are crucial for success. Similarly, within the church, unity is necessary for accomplishing God's purposes. We will be encouraged as a congregation to care for one another, to support each other's strengths and weaknesses, and to have a team mindset rather than an individualistic one.In the sermon I will reference the book of Acts, highlighting the unity among the early believers on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out. We will look at Scripture to further emphasize the importance of unity, such as Philippians 2:1-2, 1 Corinthians 1:10, John 13:35, and Philippians 2:3.The main takeaway is that unity among God's people brings about blessings, enables effective ministry, and displays the love of Christ to the world. It involves putting aside selfish ambitions, valuing others, striving for agreement and peace, and loving one another. Having a team approach to unity calls for repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation where there is disunity, emphasizing that unity is a vital aspect of discipleship and essential for the church to fulfill its mission; To Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples. Grace and Peace,Stephen

The inaugural season finale of Wednesdays With Watson, features two special guests. Cheryl Rice and Christy Waulk join us to conclude the season and help highlight the message of the entire season. We know that there is Hope, and want to tell you about it. Cheryl Rice brings 37 years of ministerial experience as she has served alongside her husband Dr. William Rice, senior pastor, Calvary Church, Clearwater, Florida. She holds her BA in History and English from Samford University.Christy Waulk is the Co-Founder of Baylight Counseling, also in Clearwater, Florida. Christy holds multiple degrees in the area of Biblical counseling as well as trauma training. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.Healing happens when we understand the importance of community, the importance of church, and the importance of counseling. More important than those things, we understand the Star of all of our stories, IS our ultimate Hope. This episode is meant to start conversations among laypeople in churches as well as leadership. When laypeople serve hurting people in their congregation, they are ministering to approximately 25% of their congregation at any given time. Some of this work happens outside the church, in fact a good bit of it does. "Community is vital to healing" Christy shares. So, even though this episode is focused on the church, mental health should first be addressed in the trenches where people are hurting first and most.Leadership must also understand the importance of providing resources for helpers and support creative and innovative ways to minister to those hurting in their sphere of influence. This episode creates a call to action. Oftentimes, there are financial barriers to counseling. Christy and Josh Waulk have created a non profit organization for the hurting and never turn away a counseling client because of their inability to pay. To accomplish this, Baylight Counseling has a way for you to help. Consider a donation to this foundation so they can continue to provide these services, especially in a difficult year like 2020. Here is the link where you can donate to this foundation. Your donation is tax deductible and would support the mission of this podcast: HELP PEOPLE. Be Loving! 1 Peter 1:22-25 LOOK BACK Peter was writing to encourage believers experiencing persecution and trials. JD ~ BE HOLY! The “how to” of the what Peter had written before! Peter wrote: You have been chosen! You have a sure hope! You have an inheritance kept for you! You can persevere and have Joy in the trials!   It’s one thing to be told you have something and another to take hold of it! It’s “how to TAKE HOLD” of what we have and who we are in Christ!   JD: “Prepare you Mind for Action and Exercise Self-Control” ~ Where’s your focus to be able to Think and Live differently than the world?   Set your mind on Christ! Live as God’s Obedient Children!   BE HOLY as God is HOLY! Not a request ~ it’s a command!   BE HOLY!  This isn’t your home ~ Live your time here in Reverent Fear of the Lord!   You were redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus. It was God’s plan from the beginning to restore you from your fallen, broken, slave to sin, hopeless existence back into relationship with Himself.   Therefore, Be Different - Be Obedient – Be Holy!   If Your FOCUS ~ Your PLAN is on FIGHTING TEMPTATION instead of BEING HOLY and SET APART for God, you’re going to fall!   BUT, IF your FOCUS is on being HOLY and SET APART for God, You’ll be able to Overcome temptation! Endure trials! Have Joy!   Get your Focus on the right thing!   Put on God’s Armor....(Eph 6)   Have Spiritual Disciplines in your life.   Pray, Read & Study God’s Word. Be intentional about having Godly men and women in your life. Live out what you know. Share your Faith!   You will grow and mature in your Faith. You will be Transformed, Be Holy and Set Apart for God!   Today in a Nutshell I want you to see:   If you’re saved, then you’ve been saved by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus; Cleansed of your sin, Empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit to be Transformed by God’s Word. Because of that: You are Enabled to live a holy life, set apart for God’s Purposes.  (JD last week) You are Enabled to having His Love for others and... You will be Maturing into the likeness of Christ!   We are commanded to BE HOLY!   The sermon today is BE LOVING! ...just in time for Valentine’s Day! ...the command to BE LOVING!   Get into God’s Word 1 Peter 1:22-25nlt ~22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.  23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living Word of God.  24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that Word is the Good News that was preached to you.   V22 ~ 22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth,   What Truth? The Truth of the Gospel! V23 For you have been born again! V25 says the Word of the Lord remains forever. And that Word is the Good News (Gospel) that was preached to you.   When they “obeyed the truth” of the Good News/Gospel of Jesus, they were Saved, Born Again, they were “cleansed from their sins”.   22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, The word cleansed in the Greek is a ‘perfect participle’ that describes a past action with continuing results.   Not only did God cleanse you from your impure past, He also gives you new capabilities through the Holy Spirit for the present and future! Believers are freed from the power of sin and are empowered by the Holy Spirit, not only to resist temptation and Be Holy, but to Be Loving! To Love God and Love others with HIS LOVE!
