Naked Space Vampires. Using those three words to describe a movie directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) written by Dan O'Bannon (Alien and Return of the Living Dead) and this podcast is fully invested. So what happened? How did a movie of such potential fall short? Well for one, it was made by Canon Films and while we certainly enjoy many of their crazy films, Canon doesn't have much of a reputation for quality. Naked Space Vampires. We wanted so much more.

The Equalizer Season 3 Episode 18: No Place Like Home Aired on CBS: March 16, 1988 Directed by: Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre!) Written by : Robert Eisele Featuring: Michael Rooker, Kelly Curtis, Michael Lerner, Richard Bright, Leo Burmester, Ed Lauter The Equalizer helps out a down-on-their-luck family who needs welfare assistance in the time of Reaganomics. This one surely had people chatting at the water cooler as they waited for their inter-office mail. This hit the topic thoroughly, between Mickey "Bootstraps" Kostmayer, the actual streets of NYC, multiple levels of capitalists and welfare programs, even the media. The usual Equalizer crazy antics made way for a renowned director (Tobe Hooper) and a top-tier guest spot by new-on-the-scene Michael Rooker. We don't solve all of the nation's problems in our discussion of this episode, but we got to most of them. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com https://www.facebook.com/equalizerspodcast/

Dark Discussions Podcast has made it to Episode 500. After ten and a half years, numerous side podcasts, and becoming a network, the original has persisted on and finally arrives to a giant milestone. After posting a poll on facebook with over 24 classic and cult classic genre films, listeners and members have chosen the film for us to discuss. That film is LIFEFORCE (1985), directed by Tobe Hooper (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) and co-written by Dan O'Bannon (ALIEN). When a joint US/UK shuttle called the Churchill visits Halley's Comet, they discover a UFO in the comet's coma. Inside appear to be human sized dead bat creatures. But the crew also finds three humanoids that resemble human beings, alive, but in stasis. When rescuers board the Churchill they discover the ship is internally immolated with all the crew dead. Returning to Earth, they bring the three humanoids back to the British Space Research Center. However the female humanoid awakens. After escaping into the city of London, panic sets in. This Cannon Studio production had big talent behind it including Tobe Hooper and Dan O'Bannon. But also composer Henry Mancini and special effects artist John Dykstra were added. With a big budget and a great cast including the who's who of British characters actors of the time including Frank Finlay, the movie initially received mixed reviews and was considered a box office failure. Now years later, the film has begun to grow with praise and expanded from just being a cult classic. Dark Discussions takes a look at this interesting vampire film and gives their thoughts.

Remember the longstanding Showtime horror anthology TV series, Body Bags? No? Oh right, because the project got cancelled and they turned it into a movie. The show was intended to be their response to Tales from the Crypt, in an ill-fated pursuit. The three shorts were directed by horror legends John Carpenter (The Thing, Halloween, Christine)and Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Lifeforce, Poltergeist). Carpenter and Hooper both play bit parts in the movie, with Carpenter serving as the host, a sarcastic, rotting corpse, and Hooper as a coroner. Horror legends, Wes Craven and Sam Raimi, also have cameos that are pretty great. Mark Hammill (Star Wards, The Guyver, Batman the Animated Series) shows his taint, butt, and balls, in a very ambitious move that cannot be unseen. David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London, Ice Cream Man) plays a charming gas station patron who fights worse than Gandhi. The "Hidden Track" is from Golgothan Remains, titled From Chaos It has Come. It's that time of the month again, the boys are hopped up on smelling salts and ready to talk Stephen King (Carrie, IT, The Shining)! This month it's cult classic, Salem's Lot or 'Salem's Lot, whichever you prefer. In this podcast, your favorite goons review both the book and movie, so you can don't have to (they even touch on Jerusalem's Lot and One for the Road). Just sit back and enjoy impressing your friends or the host at your local pub's Wednesday night trivia with your knowledge about a horror movie that is so old, the Sony Walkman was only months old at the time of its release. This made for TV adaptation was directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist, Life Force) and stars David Soul (Starsky & Hutch, Magnum Force) as young, brooding novelist: Ben Mears. Ben returns to a town from his youth, only to find that it is riddled with vampires! This marks the film debut of the iconic, Mr. Barlow, whose visage you've likely seen on a crusty punk's leather jacket sometime in your life. 'Salem's Lot marks King's second novel, following his seemingly overnight success with Carrie. Fred Willard (Anchor Man, Best in Show) somewhat steals the show as Mr. Crockett in his silky shorts, while James Mason (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Lolita, North by Northwest) plays Mr. Barlow's familiar: Mr. Straker. A young Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard) plays Susan Norton, Ben Mears' love interest. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. THE MILKSHAKE BOOM are back just in time to wrap up our spectacularly spooky Halloween themed month of episodes with 1995's 'The Mangler'! This film, directed by master of horror Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and based on the short story by Stephen King, stars Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Ted Levine (Silence of the Lambs), and a giant immobile homicidal demon possessed laundry folding machine from hell! With a distinguished horror pedigree and completely plausible premise like that, how can this film go wrong?!
