Straker Ltd CEO Grant Straker talked with Proactive at AIM"S Small and Midcap Conference about how the company is leveraging artificial intelligence to reshape the global language services industry. Straker explained how the business evolved from early content management systems into a leading AI-powered translation platform over the last 15 years. The company focuses on blending machine learning with human expertise to deliver high-quality, cost-effective language services. A key milestone has been the integration of its platform by IBM, which now uses Straker's technology for all its internal translations. “They've gone from a multi-vendor traditional model to just us,” Straker said, highlighting how the move has streamlined IBM's operations while reducing costs. He also discussed the company's proprietary "Terry" language model and its innovative quality estimation* system. This tool evaluates translated content for accuracy, determining whether it needs human review—improving efficiency and boosting gross margins. Straker outlined a clear investor case, emphasizing three pillars: financial strength, innovation, and global distribution. The company is targeting revenues of AUD 45 million for the year, with no debt, AUD 12 million in cash, and annual R&D investment of AUD 7 million. With operations in ten countries and strategic alignment with IBM's AI stack, Straker positioned the company as well-placed to scale quickly through operating leverage in AI. #AI #StrakerLtd #GrantStraker #LanguageTech #TranslationAI #IBMPartnership #ArtificialIntelligence #InvestorUpdate #MachineTranslation #TechStocks #ASXStocks #TerryModel #QualityEstimation #ProactiveInvestors #SmallCapASX

People sometimes describe Tom Straker s a “TikTok chef” or an “Instagram chef,” and yes, it's true that he has millions and millions and millions of followers on Instagram and TikTok, and that he's known across the globe for his mesmeric butter-making videos, among many other things. But Tom's also the real deal — a chef who trained at the Ledbury, the Dorchester and headed up the kitchen Casa Cruz before trying his hand, one day in lockdown, at making a cooking video for a few hundred followers. That first attempt was pretty dreadful, he admits — but now he runs an entire studio to produce his content, while his adoring fans flock from around the world to Straker's, his new-ish restaurant in Notting Hill, which thoroughly lives up to the excellent reviews its had since its opening at the end of last year. A second is set to open in Manhattan in just a few months time. Tom and I spoke about all sorts of things in this episode, recorded in the office above Straker's on the Golborne Road — including his earliest food memory, the ridiculous suit that he wore to his first interview at the Dorchester, his plans to shake up the butter market, and his advice for anyone unsure of what they want to do in life. Enjoy. The Gentleman's Journal Podcast is sponsored by Luca Faloni

For Episode 56, we have two coaches who took over at their alma maters. Justin Straker, head coach at MCLA Arizona State, graduated from Tempe in 2014. He spent a season as the OC for ASU before getting his masters at Tennessee, working for Legends Lacrosse, and then he was the head coach at Boulder Creek in Arizona where they won the 2021 state title. He's now entering his second year as a head coach. We discussed the transition from high school head coach to college head coach, the learning process from year one to year two, recruiting to Arizona State, and what he borrowed from Chris Malone, his head coach at Arizona State who played at Maryland. In our second interview, Byrnes Tatford from St. Thomas Moore in Lafayette, Louisiana joins the show. He graduated from STM in 2008, then played football at Louisiana Lafayette for the Ragin Cajuns before starting their club lacrosse program. We discussed the evolution of the sport in the state since his playing days, their approach to out of state scheduling, a pretty unique opportunity for the freshmen teams statewide, and the expectations for the top end players in the state for playing at the next level.
