Welcome To Horror Presents: “The We Have Been Watching Invasion of Earth”. It's time for our semi-regular round up of all the entertainments we've been sticking into our brains for the past few weeks (and no laughing at the word “semi” please, we're all grown ups). This time round there's quite an international flavour as we discuss Soviet masterpiece “Viy” (1967); 2 movies from South Korea in modern classic “Train to Busan” (2016) and the “Tucker & Dale…” reimagining “Handsome Guys” (2024); fantastic Norwegian comedy “Troll Hunter” (2010); and the breathtaking 1922 Danish/Swedish silent documentary “Häxan” (and it's William Burroughs narrated 1968 version, “Witchcraft Through the Ages”). We also cover hit podcast “Broken Veil” (2025), 1982's “The Slumber Party Massacre”; “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” and “The Book of the Witch” (both 2024). Plus there are honourable mentions for “Battle Beyond the Stars”; and the anthology shows “Tales of Unease” and “Armchair Thriller”. There should be no need to prep for this ep, but listeners beware, as here be (possible) spoilers and (definite) swearing. Join us!

Fighter Pilot Survival: Kegan Gill's Battle Beyond the Battlefield In this extraordinary episode, Marcus and Melanie meet with retired U.S. Navy Fighter Pilot Kegan Gill, whose story is nothing short of miraculous. Kegan survived a catastrophic ejection from his aircraft during a training mission over the Atlantic Ocean, where he ejected directly into the sound barrier. The injuries he sustained in that moment were severe enough to kill most people – his limbs torn apart and a traumatic brain injury among them. But Kegan's ordeal was only beginning. Plunged into the icy waters of the Atlantic with his parachute still attached, his wetsuit torn, and his arms unable to move, Kegan was forced to endure a two-hour battle with hypothermia as rescue teams raced to find him. Miraculously, his hypothermic state prevented fatal blood loss. Following this harrowing experience, Kegan faced months of grueling recovery, eventually achieving a perfect Physical Fitness Test score and returning to flight duty. However, Kegan's journey didn't end with physical recovery. He began experiencing severe psychotic episodes due to his brain injury, leading to a stint in a VA Mental Health Facility. Pharmaceutical treatments only worsened his symptoms, and he endured dehumanizing treatment from caregivers who misunderstood his unique needs. Now, Kegan is finding renewed hope through alternative treatments for brain health. Through the Warrior Angels Foundation, he has discovered the power of nutraceutical and hormonal interventions, offering a glimmer of healing. Beyond his personal health battles, Kegan is a dedicated father and husband, working tirelessly to support his young family. Join us as Kegan opens up about his incredible journey of survival, resilience, and healing. His story is as inspiring as it is shocking – a testament to human strength and the will to overcome even the darkest of circumstances. Tune in to hear a story of grit, determination, and the relentless pursuit of healing against all odds. In This Episode You Will Hear: • When I was about 10 years old, my family had a friend that had a Cessna, and he took me up on this lawnmower with wings, and we went buzzing around, and it felt like a freakin' rocket ship. I absolutely loved being above the earth, and I felt so free. (6:26) • In May of 2012, I graduated as a winged aviator, and I got those wings pinned on my chest. (23:30) • [Marcus] It's an absolute transition into a different human being the minute those wings touch your chest. (23:52) • [In flight school] you showed up there, and you had your wings, and you thought you made it. They made it very clear you have not made anything yet. (26:30) • It just so happened on this day there was a 16 foot, 3,500 pound Great White Shark named Mary Lee directly under my airspace, and my buddy pointed out, “ Hey man, Today would be a terrible day to eject,” and an hour after having that conversation, I found myself out on what turned into a pretty freaking wild experience. (36:13) • [Melanie] Q: Is it common to eject?”  [Keegan] A: It happens more than you hear about in the news. We lose a few naval fighter jets every year to mishaps. (37:06) • When you show up at flight school, they say “Look to your left and look to your right. One of you is gonna have a serious mishap or be dead choosing this job. Are you sure you wanna be here?” (37:39) • You think you're invincible, and you don't really think anything of it. (37:54) • Keegan tells the detailed story of that fateful day. (Starting at 41:16) • When I punched out, I got the initial blast from the ejection seat, and then immediately impacted the sound barrier with my body. At that speed, the human body is not aerodynamic. (50:53) • The aircraft impacted the water so fast, it just vaporized. (52:45) • They ended up wheeling me in, and treated me for severe hyperthermia. They took my core body temperature. I was at 87 degrees. [Marcus] “That should've killed you.” (60:09) • One of the more senior guys takes me into his office and he goes: “Congratulations, Lieutenant Gill. If you can figure out how to get your body working again, we'll get you back in a Super Hornet. (68:09) • My brain was just not working the way it was supposed to from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). (74:59) • I had a deep sense of betrayal from all that thought I had served. To see the treatment, it seemed like everything I was fighting for was a joke. (89:21) • I've had a number of psychedelic-assisted therapies that have been really helpful. (95:22) • Ibogaine has been studied pretty thoroughly at this point. It's showing that it triggers neuro-regeneration. (101:48

This month Lee takes a look at music from films about possibly the world's most famous cryptid, the Sasquatch - or as it/they are better known in pop and general culture: Bigfoot. There are just so many films, especially in the last thirty years or so, that the list is focused on the real peak period of interest, the 1970s and 1980s. Even then this list threatened to be much larger than it ended up being, but a lot of the music was impossible to source. Still, Lee feels this list is large enough to pay proper tribute to that mythical(?) hairy giant in the woods. --Main Theme from "Bigfoot" (1970) --Richard Podolor --The Legend of Boggy Creek from "The Legend of Boggy Creek" (1972) --Chuck Bryant & Earl E. Marta Kristen was born Birgit Annalisa Rusanen, on February 26, 1945, in Oslo, Norway, to a Finnish mother and a German soldier who was killed towards the end of World War II in Europe. Marta was only two months old when she was left in an orphanage. In 1949, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Soderquist of Detroit, Michigan adopted her, and brought her to America; she was renamed Martha Soderquist. In 1959, the family moved to L.A. and she attended Santa Monica High School for a year; she later graduated from Hollywood Professional School. Producer/director James B. Harris discovered the pretty, petite aspiring actress; he arranged for her to get an agent, and she was quickly booked for TV programs, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Loretta Young Show (aka "The New Loretta Young Show"). In 1963, Marta met a graduate student and, 6 months later, they got married. Her career took off and she made a splash as the mermaid "Lorelei" in Beach Blanket Bingo. She would be best-known and remembered, however, for her signature role of "Judy Robinson" in Lost in Space.  Marta is also known for her work in Battle Beyond the Stars, Murphy Brown, Fame and Trapper John.    Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

A battle stretching beyond the stars begins here. This low budget sci fi version of Seven Samurai is, well, a low budget version of that classic movie.  It has a wide range of characters and locations.  The ships look terrible and the acting is hilarous.  The film score is amazing and led James Horner to land the Wrath of Khan film, so we can be thankful for that.  Cheapseat Reviews the Podcast that explores the Hollywood film industry for the greater good.

Welcome to todays discussion on The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast…In the cacophony of daily life, amidst the hustle and bustle that demands our attention, there lurks a battle far more profound and far-reaching than the eye can see. It's a conflict that transcends the tangible, challenging not just individuals but families at their core. Today, we're zeroing in on Ephesians 6:12, a verse that pulls back the curtain on the true nature of our struggles and arms us with the perspective needed to protect what's most precious.Scripture: Ephesians 6:12"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."This passage from Ephesians is a stark reminder that our daily battles, the tensions we feel, and the discord that sometimes arises within our families are mere symptoms of a much larger war. Paul isn't just penning a metaphor; he's issuing a clarion call to arms, urging us to recognize the spiritual forces at work against us. It's an invitation to shift our focus from the seen to the unseen, understanding that the preservation of our families begins with acknowledging the spiritual realm's impact on our lives.Focus Training (2 minutes):* Recognizing the Enemy: Spend the first minute reflecting on recent challenges within your family. Instead of viewing these through a purely human lens, consider the spiritual influences at play. How might the "powers of this dark world" be seeking to sow discord among you? Acknowledge these forces not to fear them but to prepare for battle.* Equipping for Battle: Now, shift your focus to the armor of God described in the verses following Ephesians 6:12. Envision yourself donning each piece—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith. Visualize your family standing together, fully armored, steadfast in the face of spiritual adversity. Commit to daily prayer for each family member, asking for protection, wisdom, and discernment. Conclusion:The battles we face in safeguarding our families are won not through human strength but through spiritual resilience. By acknowledging the true nature of our struggle and equipping ourselves with God's armor, we can create a fortress of faith around our loved ones. Remember, the victory is already won; our charge is to stand firm and claim it.Call to Action:This week, initiate a family discussion about the spiritual battles you face. Together, choose one practical step to strengthen your collective defense, whether it's a dedicated time for prayer, scripture reading, or simply sharing your struggles and victories in faith.Question of the Day:What area of your family life needs more prayerful protection, and how can you start addressing it today?Prayer: Let's Pray:Lord, in a world where unseen battles rage around us, help us to anchor our families in You. Teach us to wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces that seek to divide and destroy. Clothe us in Your armor, and fill our homes with Your presence, peace, and protection. Guide us to fight the good fight, standing firm in faith, and covered by Your grace. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.As we wrap up today's session, remember that the strength of our families in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of faith. In recognizing the spiritual dimension of our struggles, we not only protect our loved ones but also strengthen our bond with the Almighty. Keep the faith, warriors. Until next time, stay vigilant and rooted in love.My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. This month Lee takes a look at selections from the scores from two notable 1970s Samurai exploitation film series, "Hanzo the Razor" & "Lone Wolf and Cub". Although a lot of traditional Japanese musical elements were used, more often than not, convention was thrown out the window. Fuzzed-out electric rock, jazz & funk all show up to spice-up these more Grindhouse-esque films, which are full of bloody violence, sex, and taboo subject matter. --Goyoukiba's Theme & Main Title from "Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice" (1972) --Kunihiko Murai --Main Title & The Villain - Shoubei Heijima from "Hanzo the Razor: The Snare" (1973) --Isao Tomita --Main Theme from "Hanzo the Razor: Who's Got the Gold?" This week it's just Andrew and Kevin and they cover Rebel Moon, The Curse, Poker Face, Genie, and The Best Christmas Ever! They manage to keep it relatively tight in spite of the amount of content and a good portion of it is dedicated to Rebel Moon. The show kicks off with Andrew jumping right into it. He liked the movie more than the critics did (not hard to do, really...) and, as the discussion goes on, it seems like Kevin did, too. He doesn't like it as much as Andrew, but he gives it higher praise than most other recent Snyder films. Andrew even takes a minute to compare the film to the '80s film, Battle Beyond the Stars, which is an eerily similar plot! Next up Kevin talks about the Showtime series, The Curse. It's an A24 series and it's an art piece, so VERY subjective. And with Kevin the subject, he's very critical of it. It's an interesting series that he'll watch all of but he's not sure he can actually recommend it to anyone. So with that, watch at your own risk! While Andrew gathers his notes, Kevin steers the conversation to Holiday films for the last (recorded) episode of 2023. He discusses the Peacock film, Genie, starring Melissa McCarthy. This film revolves solely around Melissa's ability to carry a scene, but it leaves a lot to be desired on the story front. Kevin has some serious issues with the development and shares those outright. Once he's gathered his notes, Andrew takes over with a Christmas review of his own, Best Christmas Ever! He claims he had to watch it because he has a girlfriend now and this is a sacrifice he has to make, but I think we all know the truth... That said, he didn't absolutely hate this movie, though Rotten Tomatoes suggests maybe everyone else did! Kevin rounds out the show with a review of the Peacock series, Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne. As with just about everything she does, Kevin loved it. It's a smart, creative, and witty take on the crime dramedy and definitely worth your time! Andrew closes the show with some notes on the most recent season of Invincible and, if you are a facial hair aficionado, there's some bonus footage at the end for you!   As always, thank you for watching. Why are we, as humans, so certain that not only will we live to see the end times, but also that along the way, we will turn against each other in fundamentally brutal ways? At the heart of that brutality, at least with this episode's movies, lies our own ability to continue on as a species. When forces conspire to prevent people from conceiving, what dystopian population control measures will we put up with? In The Handmaid's Tale, in the fascist post-America called Gilead, the new authorities enforce a convoluted version of musical chairs to keep fertile women, called handmaids, pregnant as often as possible. This officially sanctioned slavery is supposed to perpetuate "the best" the country has to offer by mating the handmaids with "Commanders", or governmental leaders. If the system sounds rigged to favor the same people responsible for creating it, you might be on to something. In Children of Men, things are worse, if that's possible. Instead of dramatically low birthrates, there are NO births, and haven't been for the last eighteen years. That future also depicts a fascist government trying to control its citizens through force, but hopelessness has become so ingrained in people that even patriots have become jaded. What's the point of resisting when our shared doom is inevitable? In this podcast, Paul and Inez examine and compare these films as they approach women's reproductive rights (and really all of their rights) in dystopian futures and then deliver their verdicts on which film dealt with that theme best. In the premiere, Paul and long-time collaborator Sheila take a look at a haunted house story so compelling, people still discuss it and re-tell its bloody tale. Of course, I'm talking about Amityville (1979) and its 2005 re-make. In this podcast, Paul and Sheila will put both movies to the test and leave you with their own verdicts as to which movie, old or new, told the most effective haunted house story.
