An original indie-folk musical premieres at Northern Stage in White River Junction next month. Set over the course of one working day, "The Vermont Farm Project" tells the stories of eight farmers. It's based on three years of interviews with farmers from Vermont and the surrounding region. Director Sarah Wansley of White River Junction and Hudson Valley-based writer Jessica Kahkoska tell us more about this unique production. Plus, Vergennes native Alexandria Hall is based in Los Angeles, but a lot of Vermont's essence is found in her work. Her poems reflect the daily life and language of rural Vermont.

A proposed locked juvenile facility in Vergennes is stirring up memories of a former youth detention center with a problematic history. Plus, Vermont veterans are encouraged to become poll workers for the presidential election, state election officials say Vermont's voting systems are secure, public forums will be held to try and shore up Vermont's statewide emergency communications system, teachers and administrators at many of the state's public schools are struggling with increased behavioral problems among students, and a New Hampshire radio station continues reporting on addiction issues amid a federal indictment against four men charged with harassing their reporters.
In May, the Department for Children and Families unveiled a plan to build a new secure youth facility in Vergennes — partially on land that once housed the Weeks School, a former youth detention center with a troubled history. Some advocates say it's a physical reminder that the state hasn't done enough to reckon with the past.

Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski are the co-founders of Lost Lantern, an award-winning independent bottler of American whiskey based in Vergennes, Vermont. The company's tagline and mission are one in the same: shining a light on the independent spirit. Ganley-Roper has a background in wine and spirits retail, as well as working in operations for several startups. And before co-founding Lost Lantern, Polonski was a Senior Whisky Specialist at Whisky Advocate. He's also a recent addition to ACSA's board of directors. Ganley-Roper and Polonski met in 2014 and left their jobs to go on a road trip that helped start their company in 2018. They launched their first product in 2020 and opened their tasting room in the fall of 2023. Along the way, they also got married. In this episode, they reminisce on that road trip, discuss their process, dive into their summer bourbon collection and much more.
