Es wird mal wieder über den Tellerrand geschaut. In dieser Folge von „Mek Wi Talk“ unterhalten sich Erik und Allgi mit DJ Waxfiend aus den Niederlanden. Wie kaum ein anderer europäischer DJ repräsentiert der Amsterdamer musikalische Vielseitigkeit und Experimentierfreude ohne dabei seinen Status als Dancehall-Instanz zu verlieren. So promotet Waxfiend mit seinen Jamrock Events bereits seit über eineinhalb Jahrzehnten eine der wichtigsten Dancehall-Veranstaltungen des Kontinents. Passend dazu hat er in den letzten Jahren mit Encore eine Veranstaltungsmarke geschaffen, die in Hip Hop-Kreisen weit über die holländischen Landesgrenzen hinaus Beachtung findet. Über all diese Projekte, aber auch über die Eigenheiten der niederländischen Dancehall-Szene, seine Begeisterung für neue Musikstile und seine Zukunftspläne gibt der sympathische DJ in dieser Episode Auskunft. 

Als er iemand in Nederland is die met muziek de temperatuur op kan voeren, dan is het Waxfiend. De Amsterdammer is de drijvende kracht achter hiphopfeest Encore, maar laat zijn oor ook graag vallen op dancehall, afrobeat en het hippe Zuid-Afrikaanse genre gqom. In 2019 was de Bolder Waxfiends terrein, nu maakte hij speciaal voor POST een mix om ondanks alles voorzichtig op te dansen. Een soundtrack voor feestdagen binnenshuis en een gloeiend slotstuk voor een gek jaar. Since the beginning of the corona crisis, we have been working on new collaborations, so that everyone can listen to the best new music from home. That is why we have put our heads together with Unwise to cook up something special. A total of eight DJs came by the Chigaco Social Club to spin their current favorites. The first set we want to share with you is by none other than Waxfiend. His carefully curated set really hit home and has us missing those long summer nights with the homies. Waxfiend is also known for founding Jamrock (one of Holland’s most successful parties) and has produced award winning mixcd’s of Dutch artists such as Kempi and The Opposities. Een ode aan de de originators en de man die trap in NL naar een next level aan het tillen is!  Was vroeger fan dj’s uit de states als Green Lantern en Clinton Sparks hun mixtapes. Een Noreaga verse over een Mobb Deep beat of een Mary J Blige vocal over een 50 cent beat ofzo. Zowel de beat als de vocals zijn gecreëerd op een ander deel vd wereld door een persoon in een andere omgeving en met een individueel creatief proces en zijn of haar eigen passie. En als dj is het kaolo hard als je dat samenbrengt, er synergie is en je die hele track op een nieuwe manier beseft!  Is dat me met het hele album gelukt??
