It's our 80th episode, cruisers—20 away from the big 100! KP and Tobi are back with their usual antics, ready to break down the latest in music and pop culture like only they can. This week, it's all about the music. We talk about our excitement for Wizkid's upcoming album Morayo and break down his record-shattering first-day Spotify NG streams. The conversation takes a spicy turn as we discuss stream farming, with KP boldly saying, “Na who dem catch be thief.”We also get into the Grammy nominations, giving flowers to Tems, Yemi Alade and Rema, and debating Album of the Year. From there, we zoom out to talk about Nigerian artists getting their due on the global stage, with a spotlight on Shabooze's A Bar Song (Tipsy) and its Billboard success.Of course, we couldn't skip Siraheem's viral anthem Bad Bitch Syndrome. But it's not all lighthearted. We dig into serious issues like trolling, misogyny in the music industry, and the glaring accessibility problems in Nigeria that demand more attention. This episode blends the fun, the insightful, the unapologetically real and all the energy you've come to love. If you're listening, drop us a review, share your thoughts, and join the conversation using #CruisingOutwest.Follow us for more updates:@cruisingoutwest@KpFawehinmi@tobiskokoLet's keep the conversation going.

The new year 2024, marks significant anniversaries for two countries. It is 30 years since South Africa held its first democratic election, signalling the dismantling of centuries of violent colonial and racial domination. At the same time, Rwanda was descending into a genocide that would leave up to a million people dead. Today we look back to that time to see how Rwanda and South Africa navigated those years. And Afrobeats has always been popular among the people who made the music. But last year the milestones kept piling up. So what does 2024 have in store for the music genre? Sometimes music can take you to places you've never imagined! That's what Afrofuturism does.… Afrofuturism is a cultural aesthetic that explores the intersection of African culture with science fiction, technology and the future - fusing magical realism with the beauty of Africa, beyond the clichés. The term was originally coined by Mark Dery (an American journalist working for The Washington Post & Rolling Stone). From the start, Afrofuturism was a child of music, born in the ‘60's in the boundless mind of Sun Ra, and it still shines in today's music of American artists such as Janelle Monae. Nowadays, Afrofuturism is flourishing in Europe and in Africa, constantly revitalized by artists who offer new perspectives to expand our idea of Africa. In this episode, we explore this boundless inner space and George Collinet is trans-connected to a futuristic nebula through a patchwork of stories, soundscapes, and various avant-garde music productions from the cosmos and elsewhere. The episode includes interviews with Ibaaku, Blick Bassy, Ikoqwe, Djely Tapa, Shabaka, Mélissa Laveaux, Afrotronix, plus Angélique Kidjo & Yemi Alade. Produced by Elodie Maillot. APWW #857
