La escritora Carmen Blanco publica el próximo 5 de octubre «El fuego en la piedra», continuación de su exitosa novela «Gorriones y halcones», centrada en la revuelta irmandiña del siglo XV. La nueva obra, de 470 páginas, recupera personajes y acontecimientos históricos para construir una trama de ficción ambientada en una Galicia convulsa, con el protagonismo de familias como los Andrade, Lemos, Ulloa, Castro o Fonseca y figuras como Enrique IV. Blanco destaca que la revuelta irmandiña fue un movimiento transversal en el que participaron campesinos, burguesía, bajo clero e incluso parte de la nobleza. La autora reivindica además el papel de las mujeres, con historias como la de María de Mondaos, esposa de Alonso de Lanzós, que resistió el asedio del castillo de Mesía. La novela puede leerse de forma independiente, aunque incluye un resumen de la primera entrega. Tras cinco años de investigación, Blanco ya trabaja en la tercera parte, con la intención de completar una trilogía. «El fuego en la piedra» será presentado también en el Certamen de Novela Histórica de Úbeda.

Cris Blanco is chief strategy officer at Beldex, the privacy-first layer one that began in 2018 as a fork of Monero and now runs a suite of privacy applications for messaging, browsing, networking and payments. He has spent more than 15 years across Web3, frontier technology and digital platforms, working at founding-team and senior-leadership level on go-to-market, ecosystem strategy and partnerships. Most recently he was part of the founding team at Humanity Protocol, where he helped scale testnet adoption to more than three million users in 90 days. Why you should listen Blanco has moved from a project about proving who you are to one about keeping that private, and he argues the two are the same problem. His work on identity convinced him that people want to prove specific facts about themselves without exposing everything else, and that privacy has to be part of a system's architecture from the start. He applies the same logic to crypto itself. Blockchains solved verification without a middleman, he says, but verifying that a transaction is valid does not require publishing everyone's balance, salary and coffee purchases to the world permanently. That view explains why Beldex builds a whole stack rather than a single app. Blanco points out that privacy fails at the weakest layer: an encrypted chat tied to a phone number, a hidden IP address undone by a public payment. So alongside private BDX payments, Beldex offers BChat for messaging without a phone number or email, BelNet as a decentralized VPN, the Beldex Browser, and a naming service for human-readable addresses. Blanco says BChat accounts for roughly two thirds of the ecosystem's 1.5 million installs, which he reads as evidence that messaging, not payments, is the easiest way to bring non-crypto users into privacy tools. On the tension between privacy coins and regulators, he argues that banks and hospitals hold sensitive data without publishing it and still comply with the law. Exchanges and fiat gateways carry the compliance obligations, and users should be able to disclose specific information to specific parties. Beldex has published a MiCA white paper to that end. AI, he argues, makes the case stronger. People already hand AI assistants their documents and private thoughts, and as businesses route payroll and payments through agents the exposure grows. Blanco says Beldex is testing encrypted agent-to-agent communication as a next product. En esta nueva entrega de la iniciativa financiada por la Oficina de Asuntos Indígenas de Santiago de la CONADI, los conductores recibieron en el estudio a Felipe Arriagada, músico y profesional de la Subdirección Nacional de Pueblos Originarios del Servicio Nacional del Patrimonio Cultural (SERPAT) de la Región de Valparaíso . La conversación se centró en la labor institucional del SERPAT —dependiente del Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio— y en el concepto de revitalización cultural como un derecho humano e institucional . Felipe Arriagada y Floriano repasaron el impacto de los talleres de oficio en la Región de Valparaíso desde 2018, destacando que el telar mapuche representa la forma más cercana a "escribir un libro" sobre el territorio . A través de los diseños (ñimín), la simbología de prendas como el makuñ (poncho lonco) y los pigmentos naturales, cada pieza teñida y tejida relata la historia, la procedencia y la memoria viva del pueblo mapuche . Asimismo, abordaron las valiosas experiencias desarrolladas en comunas como Llay-Llay junto al CESFAM local, donde el telar se ha implementado como una herramienta terapéutica para tratar cuadros de depresión y estrés, demostrando que la medicina ancestral abarca la totalidad de sus expresiones culturales para procurar el bienestar integral . Finalmente, abogaron por tender puentes entre el conocimiento académico y el saber territorial —invocando el concepto de lo cheje o el entretejido de identidades de la pensadora Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui — y recordaron que la Subdirección atiende de manera presencial en calle Blanco 1199 (piso 7, oficina 73, Valparaíso) . He and Elaine owned a furniture design company that specialized in mesquite. While learning how to floor-malt barley, he began with the recipe for Classic, modeled after the unpeated style of Speyside Scotches. If he could nail down a clean-finishing American Single Malt Whiskey that rivaled Scotland's finest, then he could take the recipe and put a Southwest spin on it — which is how our mesquited (not peated) Dorado was born.

Young star systems are dangerous places. A planet can be pelted by giant asteroids and comets. It can collide with its siblings, and be kicked out of the system by close encounters with other siblings. It might even be swallowed by its parent star. Astronomers in the U.K. recently found evidence of such encounters in several young stars. The researchers zeroed in on stars in three clusters. All of the clusters are young – from about 40 million to 200 million years old. At that age, their star systems might still be chaotic – planets might be getting blasted or destroyed, and they might still be taking shape. Six stars in the clusters showed especially high amounts of lithium. It’s a common planet-building material. But it’s fragile – stars quickly destroy it. So any lithium in the stars must have been added recently. The most likely source is young, rocky planets. The planets could have been kicked inward by the gravity of other planets, or dragged in by gas and dust around the stars. Over time, the remains churn deep into a star’s interior. But some can linger for a few million years – the remains of dead planets. One of the clusters is Blanco 1. It’s 850 light-years away, in the constellation Sculptor. It climbs into the southeast in mid evening, to the lower left of the bright star Fomalhaut. It’s too faint to see with the eye alone, but it’s a decent target for small telescopes.
