I am not an animal!!! The David Lynch Deep Dive continues with his second feature film, an historical biopic centered around John Merrick, a young man in 19th Century England with striking birth and genetic defects that made him treated as a freakshow, whether in the circus or in a hospital. It's a surprisingly conventional, normal, straightforward film. Very much not what we associate with David Lynch. So . . . how effective IS it? We discuss.
This week, Nick and Chris talked about A24's The Whale, starring Brendan Fraser, and David Lynch's The Elephant Man. That's right, an A24 film (and I do mean film) and a David Lynch film in one podcast. Eating Soup Alone is a weekly podcast hosted by Christopher Crumley and co-hosted by Nick Johnson. Conspiracy 420 episode 89 Mark David Chapman second target David Bowie RockerMike and Rob discuss Mark David Chapman second target David Bowie. Despite becoming eligible for parole in 2000 and given the right to appeal his sentence every two years, Mark Chapman remains behind bars for the murder of rock legend John Lennon, whom he shot dead at point-blank range in New York City in December 1980 (per Newsweek). Though the reasoning underpinning the parole board's decision-making process has not been made public, it is believed that the premeditated and callous nature of the killing plays a part in Chapman's ongoing imprisonment. Honestly, no matter how thoroughly I prepare for an interview with a musician, I never can be totally certain of what might be revealed. I've been rattled more than once by a revelation from a musician for which there had been no previous report, but none more stunning than the one the late David Bowie gave me in 1999 when the recording was turned off. According to Bowie, New York City police discovered that his name was next on a hit list of targets of John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman. At the time of Lennon's December 8, 1980 murder outside of his Manhattan apartment, just blocks away David Bowie was starring on Broadway in the play The Elephant Man. “I was second on his list, the detectives said”, Bowie told me in the New York studio we shared near Madison Square Garden.”Chapman had a front-row ticket to ‘ The Elephant Man‘ the next night. John and Yoko were supposed to sit front-row for that show, too. So the night after John was killed there were three empty seats in the front row. I can't tell you how difficult that was to go on. I almost didn't make it through the performance.” Grunge - The world is weirder than you thinkhttps://www.grunge.com › how-mar...How Mark Chapman Nearly Murdered David Bowie In the Studiohttps://www.inthestudio.net › john-l...John Lennon's Assassin Had a Hit List & David Bowie Was Next The Vintage Newshttps://www.thevintagenews.com › ...David Bowie Was Targeted By the Man Who Killed John Lennon Far Out Magazinehttps://faroutmagazine.co.uk › davi...David Bowie was the next star on John Lennon assassin's hit list @DavidBowie @JohnLennon @MarkDavidChspman @killer @Elephantman Park Dental Care 12419 101st Ave South Richmond Hill Queens (718) 847-3800 https://www.718DENTISTS.com Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #conspiracyrealist #conspiracytheory #conspiracytheorist #conspiracyfiles #conspiracytheories #conspiracyfact #conspiracy #conspiracythread #conspiracypalette @Conspiracy @420 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support

I'm joined by author David Annandale for a deep dive into the poverty Row horror film THE MONSTER MAKER (1944). Even among fans of these low budget efforts this one has a disreputable reputation as an example of the lines that these movies sometimes crossed. It is often singled out as one of the darker and more sadistic horrors of the 1940's it does its best to creep out the viewer with the first onscreen appearance of a victim of acromegaly, the real disease that afflicted The Elephant Man, John Merrick. The film's jumbled script throws in elements borrowed from MAD LOVE (1935), THE RAVEN (1935) and a few other classic horror movies as well. And since this is a mad scientist story, we must have a man in a gorilla suit or the authorities might have stopped production entirely! Mr. Annandale and I discuss the film's cast at length with my guest's appreciation of Wanda McKay being most interesting. We make a defense of J. Carrol Naish's slightly underplayed central performance as the villain of the piece although why we would need to defend an actor with two Oscars to his credit is beyond me. We praise the excellent makeup effects used to transform Ralph Morgan into a misshapen, monstrous looking victim. And we dig into the section of this very short film that seems unnecessary and possibly was included to pad out the running time. Not that either of us dislike seeing a man in a gorilla suit but to have Ace, the Wonder Dog's action sequence absent from the movie seems a shame! Mr. Annandale was a good sport to be part of the show and I'm glad to showcase his love of this film. The email address for the show is thebloodypit@gmail.com so send any comments or ideas to us there. If you have any favorite Poverty Row Horror that you'd like to hear discussed let us know as we are keen to return to the subject. Thank you for listening!

Synopsis On today's date in 1938, two works by the American composer Samuel Barber received their very high-profile premiere performances on a live, coast-to-coast broadcast by the NBC Symphony conducted by Arturo Toscanini. Toscanini was impressed by Barber's First Symphony, which was performed at the 1937 Salzburg Festival, so Toscanini asked the 25-year old composer for a short orchestral piece, which Toscanini might perform with the newly-formed NBC Symphony. Barber offered Toscanini his pick of two short pieces, and must have been surprised when Toscanini agreed to perform BOTH of them: a newly-composed Essay for Orchestra and Barber's arrangement for full string orchestra of a movement from a String Quartet he had written in 1936. Re-titled Adagio for Strings, it was destined to become Barber's best-known work. Barber's “Adagio” acquired a special resonance during World War Two, as a threnody for America's war dead. It was also performed at the funeral of wartime President Franklin D. Roosevelt. More recently, Barber's Adagio has been used to great effect in several successful films, including “The Elephant Man” and “Platoon.” In a memorial tribute to Barber, American composer Ned Rorem wrote, “If Barber [25 years old when the ‘Adagio' was completed] later aimed higher, he never reached deeper into the heart.” Music Played in Today's Program Samuel Barber (1910-1981) First Essay for Orchestra, Op. 12 Detroit Symphony; Neeme Järvi, cond. Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING The Hook (0:21). Main Body of Review (1:42). 2022 has been a year of marquee albums coming to fruition in hip-hop. After 20+ years, we finally got another album from Black Star. billy woods and Preservation, two artists that were a match made in heaven together, blessed us with Aethiopes. Danger Mouse and Black Thought came through with their collaborative album Cheat Codes. But no other album in 2022 captured the intrigue of hip-hop head's more than the long-awaited collaboration between the almighty Alchemist and Roc Marciano, titled The Elephant Man's Bones. Expectations were sky high, so I can't wait to give you my take on if those lofty expectations were met… or disappointingly failed to live up to the hype. Joseph Merrick was sadly born in a time before modern medicine, born into a world where people with deformities were forced to either live life in the shadows or put themselves on display as a novelty, as freaks. Joseph chose the latter. He never received a proper diagnosis for his illness, that caused him to form growths and tumours all over his body, and still to this day scientists can't answer the question fro certain. What was it that the Elephant Man suffered with?
