This week on the pod, we're chatting with Dr. Meghan Hughes and Danielle O'Hanley, two members of The High Park Rogue Runners Executive Team. Both Meghan and Danielle found themselves at the High Park Running Room for different reasons, but ultimately they would meet Colin Murray-Lawson, a coach at that location. When Meghan qualified for the Boston Marathon, she wanted to find a group of runners who could train with her, so Colin and Meghan created the High Park Rogue Runners. Today, the High Park Rogue Runners have over 60 runners on custom plans and countless others who drop-in on a weekly basis (pre-pandemic, of course!). Their unique approach to training is the secret to their success. In lieu of coaching fees, the executive team asks their runners to support the community through volunteerism, gifts in kind, gear donations, and monetary donations. It's a concept they coined the “energy exchange” and the outcome is an inclusive space where runners exhibit the values and standards modelled by the executive team. Intro: Minutes 0 to 5:30 I saw Sound of Metal on Chandra’s recommendation and she saw The Trial of the Chicago 7. We would be glad if Riz Ahmed won best actor at the Oscars, but think Chadwick Boseman will win that unless he’s nominated in the supporting category.  Royals: Minutes 5:30 to Minute 42 Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah was so much more revealing than we expected and they went through so much more than we could have imagined. When Meghan was pregnant the royal family said they would not give Archie a title and that they were going to pull their security detail. They also never lifted a finger to tell the press to stop smearing Meghan. At the same time they were controlling her by telling her how much she could go out and they also took away her passport, driver’s license and keys. Every time she traveled Kensington Palace would leak the details. Meghan revealed that in 2019 when she was pregnant with Archie she was suicidal and reached out to senior palace officials to help. They told her she couldn’t get help because she wasn’t a paid employee. Meghan did not reveal whom she spoke to. Chandra got the impression it was a senior royal. Other people thought it was senior staff like The Queen’s secretary. There was an obvious smear campaign against Meghan by the press and the palace. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Courtney and Susan talk about this. Minute 11:00: Everything changed for Harry and Meghan after they went on that South Pacific tour and she was met with crowds and adoration. Meghan’s pregnancy and the success of the tour made the palace work harder to smear her. Harry and Meghan dropped a blind item that someone in his family had concerns about how dark Archie’s skin would be. Harry said that conversation “was right at the beginning… ‘What will the kids look like?’” Chandra thinks that the royal who said that was William, because we heard that they had a falling out over Meghan in 2016.  Minute 16:00: We also got clarification on one ongoing years-long story smearing Meghan, which the press was repeating as of last week, that she allegedly made Kate cry at a bridesmaid’s fitting. Kate is the one who made Meghan cry, and it was so bad that Kate sent Meghan flowers to apologize. The story got reversed and used to smear Meghan. Chandra says Kate is happy to play the fragile white woman. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Mikeala, Tanisha, Ameerah, Sara and Jasmine talk about this. Chandra mentions that they’re still trying to twist this to make Kate the victim of Meghan. I read a segment from a Daily Mail article with Richard Kay in which they claim that Meghan is obsessed with Kate. We say that we think Meghan has receipts and sent email about it and that was before we heard that she did do that! Minute 24:15: I mention the line from the article that people are pointing out is racist. “[Kate] is resilient; Middleton family blood has seen to that.” I remember that terribly racist article claiming “the Windsors will thicken their watery, thin blue blood and Spencer pale skin and ginger hair with some rich and exotic DNA.” Chandra says this type of blood line thinking is common in India due to the caste system. Minute 26:00: Camila Tominey wrote the original story about Meghan making Kate cry. In a recent interview, she defended her sources.  Minute 27:30: We finally got a statement from the royal family on Tuesday afternoon our time, which was the evening in England. During the day we heard that The Queen had “refused to sign off” on a statement Monday night to de-escalate tension with The Sussexes. The statement included the line “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.” Last week they made such a big deal about investigating Meghan’s alleged bullying, but they say they’re going to privately address systemic racism.  Minute 30:00: Katie Nicholl had a piece in Vanity Fair with Charles’ reaction to the interview and it’s so bad!  I mention that Chandra predicted Piers Morgan’s response to Meghan, which was to criticize her for breathing basically. He left his job at ITV, he likely got fired, after over 41,000 people complained about him dismissing mental health on his show and Meghan was one of them. This was after he was called out by multiple guests for his years of hating on Meghan and after he walked off set when he was mildly questioned about it by weatherperson Alex Beresford.  Minute 34:45: Meghan’s friend, Janina Gavankar,  confirmed that Meghan has the receipts, which Meghan heavily implied in the interview as well. I play a segment from Zoom where Tanisha, Ameerah, Mickeala and Sara talk about the receipts.  Minute 38:45: Prince Charles visited a vaccine site at a predominantly Black church in London. The optics of Black people bowing to Prince Charles were so bad.  On Thursday morning, Kate and William visited a school. Unlike Charles in his photo op, William deigned to answer a question from a journalist afterwards. He said “we’re very much not a racist family.”  Comments of the week: Minute 42:00  My comments of the week is from Alexandria on the post about the Queen not signing the statement supporting the Sussexes. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Rapunzel on the post about Meghan filing a complaint against Piers Morgan. Thanks for listening bitches!

Meghan was in need of audiology observation hours for her clinical observations course. Observation hours allow students to observe professionals in the communication sciences and disorders field, which assists in their clinical setting decision making process. When Meghan visited our office for the day, we were impressed with her professionalism and how she interacted with our patients. Following Meghan's visit to our office in January, we held a team meeting to discuss offering Meghan a full-time summer internship position. When we held the summer internship interview in early March, Meghan accepted the position with enthusiasm. The Importance of the Summer InternshipA few years ago, I (Blaise) was an undergraduate student studying speech-language pathology at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. It was a requirement to obtain clinical observation hours before graduation. My classmates and I needed 25 speech hours and 5 audiology hours. I was grateful for the supervisors who donated their time and allowed me and my fellow classmates to schedule observation hours in various clinical settings. Encompassing an understanding of the observation process, I personally wanted to open an internship position for an undergraduate student studying communication sciences and disorders. In addition, I've personally had mentors throughout and following my undergraduate and graduate studies. That being said, paying it forward was important to me. The purpose behind the summer internship position was to provide the opportunity for a student to observe first-hand, the processes and procedures in the private practice setting. These processes and procedures include but are not limited to: Scheduling patients Rescheduling patients Greeting patients Otoscopy Tympanometry Comprehensive audiological evaluations Hearing aid clean and checks Real ear measurement Scheduling/hosting effective team meetings Meghan Joins Team Audiology ServicesAs Meghan's summer internship came to a conclusion, we held a team meeting to discuss Meghan joining our team as our social media coordinator. During Meghan's internship, she managed the Hearing Matters Podcast Instagram and Facebook platforms. And, if we may add, does an incredible job managing all social platforms! Audiology Services would like to congratulate Meghan on a job well done this summer! Good luck this year as you enter your junior year at Bloomsburg University!

Dr. Meghan Birt is a chiropractor, educator, and healthy living encourager. She's also a wife and mom to two sweet girls. Dr. Meghan’s love of natural health started many years before getting her chiropractic degree. Healthy food and nutrition was the catalyst into becoming a chiropractor and she was able to achieve healing in her own body through natural means. Dr. Meghan wants to inspire a love of natural health in women and believes every individual has the opportunity to live their healthiest life possible. She's also on a mission to simplify healthy living for busy women so they can begin to just enjoy food, just enjoy health, and just enjoy life. You can find Dr. Meghan at www.meghanbirt.com and on the Just Enjoy Health Podcast.  Meghan began to explore healthy living, along with her mom, at the age of 17. She started reading books and educating herself but quickly noticed that there was an abundance of information, some that was contradicatictory.  Through furthering her education with chiropractic school, Megan realized that our bodies are bio-individual and different things will work better for some than others. Of course, there are some universal ideas that are true for everyone (ie. inflammatory foods should be avoided, a diet lower in sugar) but the journey to health is a personal one.  Meghan’s goal is to take our complex health and simplify it so that it's not overwhelming and you take no action at all.   When Meghan was 18, she went on a mission trip to Mexico and contracted a parasite.  Almost immediately, she began feeling bloated and exhausted. Meghan didn’t know that she was ill and struggled through the pain and exhaustion from living with the parasite while completing chiropractic school.   At the end of chiropractic school, Meghan met a doctor who performed muscle testing, detox, functional medicine and discovered she had a parasite and that was the reason her body was not functioning well. This discovery took Meghan’s love for nutrition and clean living to the next level.   In this episode, we will discuss the importance of starting with the basics and making changes in your everyday life.  Meghan shares her daily upgrades/non-negotiables to feel her best (nutrition, sleep, reasonable schedule). Meghan understands that making impactful changes in your life can be overwhelming.  She gives the following advice “Start with something small and realize it’s worth taking the extra time versus staying where you’re at because there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you can feel better.  Our bodies were designed and created to heal."
