Indian universities are done being backbenchers in the global rankings race

For an Indian university, a spot on the QS Rankings list could change everything. It would mean they belonged to the same elite club as the Cambridges and Oxfords of the world. But to nab that spot, universities are stopping at nothing — from admitting more foreign students, to paying top dollar to hire consultants and purchasing seats at conferences. But in the process some fear these universities are neglecting their bread and butter — academics. How did we get here? What's behind this growing obsession with climbing up the global ranking ladder? Tune in. Daybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 I met our Celebitchy Zoom group in person! I talk about my friend's tiny dog. Chandra had an encounter with a Great Dane. Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 24:00 Our last episode, #171, was two weeks ago. We had just seen the video of Princess Kate revealing that she had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. We were hit with over a hundred comments from new accounts all saying variations of the same thing right after that video was released. Christopher Bouzy has called out the bots on Twitter. The NY Times published an article in early 2020 about the then-Cambridges buying Instagram bot followers. In podcast #170 we talked about the Mother's Day frankenphoto. Major photo and news agencies issued a kill order for that photo. In light of that, and the very bizarre and obviously not Kate market video released by the Sun and TMZ, some people have questioned the video of Kate announcing her cancer. We wonder what's happening and Chandra has no theories. The video was filmed by BBC studios and we haven't heard many details about it. There were thinkpieces in the Washington Post and the NYT about the conspiracies. Getty images put editor's notes on the photo and video and refused to comment further about it. Last week one of the biggest royal stories was about how the Middletons are so broke they didn't even pay the insolvency firm that restructured their business, Party Pieces, when they sold it and went into bankruptcy. It's clear that the press has been given the go-ahead to go after the Middletons. There were multiple stories about this. Uncle Gary's appearance on Celebrity Big Brother underlined that the Middletons are broke. The British press always invents some new thing the Sussexes have to go to. There's a ceremony for Invictus's anniversary in May in London. England also wants to host Invictus in 2027, but hopefully Harry will not fall for that. Charles is also said to have invited the Sussexes to Balmoral this summer. Other major stories are about how the monarchy is now way too slimmed-down and how Beatrice and Eugenie need to be working royals to pick up the slack. We're also hearing BS about how Meghan supposedly got between Kate and Harry because they were so close before Meghan came around, which sounds like royal fan fiction. Harry wrote in Spare that he barely saw William and Kate. Harry has a wife whom he adores and this storyline is offensive. I like what Chandra wrote about the press in her piece about Peter Philips being unlucky in love. The palace comms departments are quiet and the royal rota has been left to make up storylines. We also heard that William was seen at a pub in Norfolk with Carole Middleton! Comments of the Week: Minutes 24:00 to end Chandra's COTW is from Brassy Rebel on the post about Beatrice and Eugenie covering Hello. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 3:30 We'll be off next week and back on October 29th. My dog got kicked out of puppy kindergarten. Here's a link to the Twitter thread about that I mentioned. Royals: Minutes 3:30 to 21:30 We've been hearing for some time that the palace is worried about the upcoming fifth season of The Crown. The Windsors were pleased with it up until last season when Diana was introduced. We're hearing that the palace wants a fiction warning added. By freaking out about The Crown, Charles is bringing more attention to it. Prince Philip and his mistress Penny Knatchbull's relationship will be shown this season. Prince Charles' coronation will supposedly only be an hour but it will likely have other events that last the whole day. They're saying it won't be as opulent as Queen Elizabeth's coronation. There's a controversy over the crown that Camilla will wear as it has the Koh-i-noor diamond stolen from Indian. The coronation date is on May 6th, which will be Archie's fourth birthday. Chandra doesn't think this was even a factor in the planning. It's not known yet whether the Sussexes are invited, the royals are probably waiting to see what's in Harry's memoir. We're also hearing that Harry's memoir and their Netflix docuseries will be out in December. Prince Harry is suing Associated Newspapers, the parent company of The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, along with Elton John and David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, whose son Stephen Lawrence was murdered in a racist hate crime in 1993. It's over spying and surveillance. Omid Scobie reported in his column this week that Harry would take the stand if it came to that. Will and Kate are covering People Magazine this week. They're one of two covers along with Christopher Meloni. The coverage claims Will is going to step up running the Duchy of Cornwall and that they're supposedly embracing a heavier workload and their increased visibility. The Cambridges did a radio program for World Mental Health Day. The segment they released to their social media was so bad. Will just talked about a “toolbox” without giving examples. They should phase this issue out of their charity portfolio as they're lightweights. William is said to have spent last weekend at Balmoral alone without his wife and kids. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about an humanitarian award the Sussexes are getting in December. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 21:30 to 29:45 In January, 2021, Angelina sent an email to Brad offering to sell him her half of the Miraval wine business. This was released as part of her defense in Pitt's lawsuit against her for selling to Stoli. We also heard a statement from Angelina's lawyer that Brad hasn't denied his abuse of her and the kids. Brad had been cutting Angelina out of the business and was spending money in ways she hadn't approved. He doesn't seem to care about this at all and is on the  current cover of Billboard Magazine to show off the renovated music studio in Miraval. We are also hearing that he wants to sell his production company, Plan B. Chandra thinks Pitt has been bleeding money from that business and that he's cash poor. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Brad and Angelina. Comments of the week: Minutes 29:45 to end My Comments of the week are from Janey and MrsFonzieFace on Peridot's post about Jonathan Majors covering Men's Health and getting in incredible shape. Chandra's comment of the week is from Coco on the post about Brad Pitt trying to sell Plan B. Thanks for listening bitches!

135: Duchess Meghan dealt with incompetent staffers, King Charles is an awful boss

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7 My new puppy is doing great but I don't let him sleep in my room. Chandra started watching Blonde and it's not as bad as she expected. (Update: She finished and it's bad.) Roger Federer retired after playing his final match with Rafa Nadal and it was sadder than Chandra expected.  Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 30:00 Last week we had the Queen's funeral on Monday. We were surprised how long the public portion was and didn't expect the Windsor portion to be aired. Both Harry and Meghan were impeccable and regal at the many ceremonies despite everything that's been thrown at them. Harry stood out and the cameras kept finding him and Meghan. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the Queen. Kate and William seemed especially happy after the Queen died and Kate sure helped herself to the Queen's jewelry. When I die I want a quick funeral so people can go about their day. There are three new royal books out now. Valentine Low's book is Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Throne, that seems to have the most tea, Katie Nicholl has The New Royals and Angela Levin has Camilla From Outcast to Queen Consort. Valentine Low seems to know that his sources are racist.  In Valentine Low's book Meghan is blamed for the way she was treated by the palace staff. These talking points were pushed by the palace earlier to Robert Lacey for Battle of the Brothers. It goes far beyond victim blaming and proves that Meghan was downplaying the abuse she endured. Low gives a bunch of examples of the royal staff being incompetent and rude to Meghan while her reactions seem perfectly reasonable. At one point Meghan disagreed with the plans a female staff member had made and told her to change them. When the woman said it would be too hard, Meghan responded “Don't worry, If there was literally anyone else I could ask to do this, I would be asking them instead of you.” Meanwhile Charles sounds like an awful boss. He's gone through five secretaries in seven years and he calls his staff at all hours of the day, including on Christmas. His office is described as toxic and the staff are backstabbing. Nicholl's book has the detail that we've heard before that William can't forgive Harry and that William “always expected Harry would be his wingman.” She also writes that Charles is holding Archie and Lilibet's titles over the Sussexes' heads depending on what Harry reveals in his memoir. We got so many stories about how and why Meghan wasn't invited to Balmoral when the Queen took a turn for the worse. It was telling that instead of focusing on the Queen after her death the press was about the Sussexes and everything they were supposedly doing wrong. We heard that Meghan wasn't invited because Kate didn't come for whatever reason. We wish Meghan would come out and say how despicable the royal family is, but they've been showing that with their actions. Meanwhile there are all these stories about whether Harry and his family can make up. Charles is said to have hope that they can but Gayle King reported that there was no peace deal at the funeral. Harry's kids don't have titles and Harry and Meghan have been demoted on the Royal.uk website to the bottom. We don't think Harry will dish the dirt in his first memoir but hopefully he will in his future books. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Charles. We talk about how Queen Margrethe of Denmark removed the royal stylings and titles from her grandchildren without telling them first. The Cambridges are sort-of stepping into their roles as Prince and Princess of Wales. They went to Wales, where William tried out his rudimentary Welsh. It was supposed to be a low key visit. It doesn't seem like they knew they were getting the Wales titles right away. Comments of the Week: Minutes 30:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Light Purple on the story where Khloe Kardashian claimed she was engaged to Tristan Thompson last year. My comment of the week is from Lunchcoma on the post where Brad Pitt said that Emily Ratajkowski is hot. Thanks for listening and subscribing bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6 Chandra mentions Heather Morris's story about J.Lo rejecting back up dancers who were Virgos. I looked at puppies but they seemed hard to train. Chandra thinks I should get a kitten for a year before I get a dog. Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 24:00 As we've heard Will and Kate, but really just Kate and the kids, are moving to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. They are keeping all their other properties, making this their fourth, although they supposedly aren't using taxpayer money for it. Kensington Palace confirmed this week that the children would be attending school in Lambrook. It seems like they left the move until the last minute before their kids start school. They are issuing carefully worded statements about not having live-in staff and renting the property. Even the royal reporters that usually run their keen puff pieces are criticizing them for this, like Richard Kay, who called it “clumsily insensitive.” Chandra wrote that this is a calculated risk by the Cambridges that William will inherit the Duchy of Cornwall soon. Meanwhile Harry was in Africa, in Mozambique and Rwanda, as part of his duties as President of African parks. He visited the president of Rwanda and led a delegation of congressman and philanthropists. We heard a couple weeks ago that William would probably speak at the UN, but he's not doing that, he's just holding the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on Sept. 21 in association with Bloomberg P hilanthropies. William should have his own causes instead of just copying his brother. We got our first episode of Archetypes, Duchess Meghan's podcast. Meghan spoke to her good friend Serena Williams about ambition. Mariah Carey is next week's guest and there are rumors that Beyonce will be on. Meghan and Serena discussed Serena's career and the double standards applied to her. Both Serena and Meghan told never-before-heard stories about scary situations with their kids. Serena's daughter Olympia broke her wrist in a highchair fall during the French Open and baby Archie was almost caught in a fire in his nursery when Meghan and Harry were in Africa. Archie was supposed to be in the nursery but at the last minute the nanny decided to put him on her back to get a snack so he was fine. Then Meghan and Harry had to go to another event and act like everything was fine! In response to this there were sourced quotes in the British press that the heater was smoking, it was unplugged and the crisis was averted, no big deal basically and there was no fire. I play a promotional clip for Archetypes. Meghan seems like she's doing great in California. We liked the podcast but thought it was a little long. We're careful not to criticize her too much because of the unhinged way the British commentators go after her. Omid Scobie addresses this in his latest column and he said that they're basically proving her point. He also mentioned that the Sussexes offered to be half in and were rejected by the palace. I play a clip from Zoom where we talked about this. As Lisa mentioned in the Zoom, this was a restrained conversation. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 24 to 30:30 We got the redacted report of what happened on the plane in 2016 that caused Angelina Jolie to file for divorce from Brad Pitt. We got this because Angelina anonymously filed for a Freedom of Information Act request. The details were worse than we expected. Brad's response was to smear and gaslight Angelina in the press including saying that Angelina is doing this for “media purposes” and that she's already known this for six years and is doing it to “inflict pain” on him. Pitt's team seems certain that the FBI case won't be reopened. They've also claimed that Angelina is just jealous of him. If Angelina wanted to ruin Brad she would have released this information during his Oscar campaign. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra doesn't think Brad will sue Angelina for defamation for this because she has her legal ducks in a row. He may pull a different legal move though. Comments of the week: Minutes 30:30 to end My comment of the week is from Owlsyn (Ableism is Not Cool) on the post about Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Dr. Oz posting a ridiculous video blaming Biden for the price of “crudite.” Chandra's comment of the week is from Snuffles on the post about William wanting to do the school run in Berkshire. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:00 We're off next week and will have an episode out on August 27th. We'll be off the week after that for Labor Day. It's been an odd week. Chandra talks about Serena Williams retiring. Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 17:00 We heard that Prince Charles accepted hundreds of thousands from a Russian oligarch with ties to Putin, who pledged £3 million to the Prince's Foundation over several years. We also heard that Scotland Yard is slow-walking their investigation into the cash for honours scheme and that they haven't even interviewed the former head of Charles' foundation, Michael Fawcett. William and Kate's royal foundation spent £12.1 million on Earthshot, which gave out five million in awards. William's corporate sponsorships for Earthshot weren't questioned like Harry and Meghan's sponsors were. We wonder how William is spending the money. Prince Harry is suing the Metropolitan police over his security issue in the UK. Omid Scobie's column details the extreme threats against the Sussexes. There's a lot of anticipation for Prince Harry's memoir, which we've heard is completed and likely coming out this fall. Ahead of that there will be no less than four royal biographies. They're trying to both get ahead of what Harry will write and to capitalize on demand for royal stories. Katie Nicholl, who has sources in the Middleton camp, has The New Royals coming out. Valentine Low's book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, will surely smear the Sussexes. There were also a ton of embiggening stories about the Cambridges as usual. The interesting part is that they seem to be coming from camp Middleton. Kate's Uncle Gary did an interview laying it on incredibly thick with compliments about Kate. Trump: Minutes 17:00 to 24:00 Trump's home in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI over the weekend. It was over the fact that Trump has been keeping classified government documents he stole from the White House there. We know partly because he complained about it on his social network, Truth Social. As we heard in February he's been destroying evidence for the National Archives by flushing documents down the toilet. Trump's businesses are also under investigation in NY by NY Attorney General Letitia James. He was deposed for that case and plead the fifth. Chandra points out that the first date for this deposition was delayed by Ivana's sudden death. There are so many investigations into Trump. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. The Republicans had no idea what the raid was for initially, and now they're blaming it on Democrats. Malcolm Gladwell: Minutes 24:00 to 28:30 Writer Malcolm Gladwell did a podcast interview in which he trashed working from home. He told people it wasn't in their best interest to work from home and that they need to come into the office to feel part of something. Work culture is no longer like that and he sounded like a corporate shill. We both love working from home and find it hard to work in an office. It can be emotionally draining to work in an office environment. We also think we're more productive at home. Chandra mentions the comment that offices are built for managers, not workers. Comments of the Week: Minutes 28:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Digital Unicorn on the post about the missing money in Earthshot. My COTW is from whatWHAT? on the post about Ben Affleck taking Jennifer Lopez to Dunkin Donuts. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:30 We'll be off the next two weeks, June 25th and July 2nd. We will have an episode out on July 9th and then will be off on July 16th and 23rd. I've been sick, but thankfully my covid test came back negative. I've been watching Imposters on Netflix. Chandra is happy that Serena Williams is coming to Wimbledon this year.  Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 33:45 Order of the Garter and Royal Ascot: Minutes 6:30 to 14:30 This week we had the ceremony for the Order of the Garter, the third highest knighthood. Duchess Camilla was inducted. At the ceremony Kate wore a blue McQueen coatdress that was apparently new. Prince William got headlines for looking glum but he always looks like that. The Queen was not there but we got a photo of her with Charles and Camilla which The Royal Family posted on their Instagram. She didn't wear the robes because she's too frail now.  We also had Royal Ascot this week. Sophie and Beatrice looked fug in unique ways. Charles and Camilla were also there. The big story was that Carole Middleton wore an ugly pleated pink shirt dress to Royal Ascot that her daughter, Duchess Kate, had worn in Scotland. Chandra remembers when Kate wore one of Carole's dresses ten years ago. Prince Andrew: Minutes 14:30 to 17:45 Prince Andrew is a Knight of the Garter and we heard in late May that both he and the Queen would be at the service. He was listed in the printed Order of Service for the Order of the Garter ceremony and his attendance was announced by the press. At the last minute he was barred from the public-facing events although he was still there behind the scenes. The Sun reported that Charles and William lobbied the Queen to get Andrew removed. Omid Scobie had a column about how Andrew is getting mixed signals from the royal family. Royal charity appearances: Minutes 17:45 to 25:15 Will and Kate attended the Grenfell memorial ceremony. Most of the crowd was in green, “Green for Grenfell,” but Will and Kate didn't wear anything green at all. We wonder if that was deliberate or not. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about that. We also heard that Meghan left a voicemail for the Hubb Community Kitchen, the organization that she worked with to release the cookbook to benefit the Grenfell community. They posted on Facebook that she left them a sweet message. In return they got hate comments on Facebook. They also shut down their Instagram. There were new photos of Duchess Meghan at an after school program for girls and non-binary youth in Amsterdam called Project Fearless. She visited them in April when she was there for the Invictus Games. The organization held on to the photos until their anniversary. Cambridge move: Minutes 25:15 to 30:15 As we've been talking about for months, the Cambridges are planning a move. They finally settled on a place on the Windsor estate called Adalaide Cottage. This will be their third property as they are keeping Anmer Hall and their apartments in Kensington Palace. The children will going to go to a private coed school in Bucklebury, a 45 minute drive away. We assume Kate and the kids will spend a lot of time with her parents, who live in Bucklebury. The Cambridges are pushing the narrative that this is a modest four bedroom home, that they will have no “live-in” staff and that the place doesn't need renovations. We assume Will and Kate will be living apart. It's curious that the Cambridges were putting out feelers for Frogmore House, Fort Belvedere or Royal Lodge but were given this smaller home. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Kate's big discussion: Minutes 30:15 to 33:45 Kate did an event where she talked about the Early Years with British politicians. All the photos are of Kate looking businessy. The writeup is so superficial and ridiculous it reads like a parody. The purpose of this meeting was for an awareness campaign. Comments of the Week: Minutes 33:45 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Beth on the story about the Persuasion adaptation with Dakota Johnson. My comment of the week is from Lucy on the post where James Patterson said old white men were being discriminated against. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:45 We'll have an episode out next week and then we'll be off on June 25th and July 2nd. We'll have one episode on July 9th and then we're taking off the 16th and the 23rd. Chandra worries we'll miss Prince William's birthday extravaganza on June 21st. I saw the Downton Abbey movie and liked it. There were weird filters on some of the actors though. Chandra finished Shining Girls on Apple and recommends it. My favorite show, P-Valley, is back on Starz. Chandra mentions that Megan Thee Stallion might make a guest appearance. (We know she did an original song for the show.) Royals: Minutes 6:45 to 25:00 Last week we talked about the Sussexes' triumphant appearance at the Jubilee service on Friday. It turns out that was all they did during the Jubilee apart from being behind the scenes during the balcony appearance. On Friday they met privately with the Queen and on Saturday they had a garden party for Lilibet's birthday. People magazine had a story with quotes from an insider who said the Sussexes "paid their respects and went home. They were really here to see the Queen." The Sussexes have shown that to be the case. There were so many think pieces about how the Sussexes were brazen for leaving quietly on Sunday and not going to any public events other than the service. They were called “detached” and “cold” by Dan Wootton in the Daily Mail. The Telegraph had quotes from an insider that there was no interaction between the Cambridges and The Sussexes. An insider said “a line was crossed” with the Oprah interview, that the Sussexes hadn't acknowledged the hurt they caused and that “someone needs to be steely in this.” Chandra says that the palace's messaging is out of kilter. It's clear that the Sussexes were the ones saying no to the invitations and keeping their heads high. She also says that there was a deliberate effort to keep the brothers apart. At the Jubbly parade on Sunday Kate wore a white belted coat and skirt, which was somewhat like Meghan's light lilac belted coat dress at the service. The Cambridges got the most headlines for little Louis, four, trying to shush his mom and pushing her hand away during the parade. Mike Tindall, who was seated behind them, said the kids were hopped up on sugar. George and Charlotte were in Wales with their parents for the Jubilee and did not look happy to be there We got an adorable photo of Lilibet on Monday afternoon, tweeted by a photographer at her birthday party named Misan Harriman. Chandra mentions that we haven't heard who else was at the party. After that photo came out we heard that Harry and Meghan were “banned” from taking any photos with the Queen when they saw her Saturday. There was another story in the NY Post that said the Sussexes just enjoyed a private moment with the Queen and that they didn't ask for photos. Harry and Meghan could set the record straight at any time with a quote or interview, and then the press would freak out about that too. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals.  Harry and Meghan handled the Jubilee like bosses. Chandra thinks their security situation is still messed up. The big stories from the Jubilee were the Sussexes being unbothered, Kate and William being disconnected and Kate being flustered by their kid. The monarchy is boring without Harry and Meghan and will be boring without the Queen. We don't think Charles will be a terrible king though. Many commonwealth countries, like Australia, will leave when the Queen passes. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Miranda on the post about Kate being William's most trusted advisor. My comment of the week is from smegmoria on the post where Adam Sandler got a black eye from his phone. We talk about our random dumb injuries. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:30 We'll have episodes out for the next two weeks and then we'll be off for two weeks. We're also taking two weeks off in July because I'm moving. Both of us want new cars but we're waiting on that. Chandra has been watching the French Open and is happy that American Coco Gauff will be in the final. Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 29 Duchess Meghan made a quiet visit to the Uvalde memorial and she brought food to blood drive volunteers, who had no idea who she was. One woman said she thought Meghan was a neighbor and that Meghan was sweet. Meghan seems to prefer to do quiet, respectful work on the ground. After we heard that Harry and Meghan were going to the Jubilee there was so much hysteria about whether they would pull a “stunt,” if they would overshadow the Queen and if would bring Netflix cameras despite the fact that Netflix didn't request a press pass. It's all very predictable. We also heard that the Sussexes likely arranged with the Queen to spend Lilibet's first birthday with her privately. The Cambridges are going to be in Wales for Jubilee events on that day. It's clear that the two couples are being kept apart. The Sussexes arrived in England on Wednesday night by commercial flight and were greeted at the airport by armored SUVS and the Queen's protection service. It's interesting how Harry got security for this visit considering that he is fighting in court for protection while in the UK. For Trooping The Color they were not on the balcony but watched from the Major General's Office. Meghan was photographed wearing a wide sun hat with a giant bow and she wore a cute cap sleeve dress. Prince William, Prince Charles and Princess Anne arrived to the Jubilee on horseback in full military regalia while The Queen and her cousin, The Duke of Kent, watched from the balcony. Chandra saw some tweets about that which cracked her up. The balcony was very subdued this year. The Queen, The Cambridges and their kids, Camilla and Charles and the Duke of Kent and his wife were there. Sophie, Edward and her kids were on the balcony but they were pushed to the side. More of the royal family, especially the children, should have been included. Kate, Camilla and the Cambridge children arrived by carriage. Kate wore a white McQueen coatdress with shoulder pads that she last wore to the G7 last year. George wore a suit with a blue tie, Charlotte had on a blue dress and Louis was in a sailor outfit that William wore as a child to a Trooping the Colour in the 1980s. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals. In a section we recorded on Friday, we talk about the Jubilee service. Both couples came without their children. Meghan was wearing a Dior belted coat that looked cream in photos but was actually pale lilac. She looked rich and expensive. Kate was wearing a yellow Emilia Wickstead with a weird criss cross high waistline. Her Philip Treacy hat was in a saucer shape and had floral embellishments underneath. Chandra doesn't think it's the same hat she wore to Harry and Meghan's wedding. Zara Tindall was in a fuchsia dress that was so fug! Eugenie was in an orange short sleeve dress and Beatrice had on a pleated blue dress with little white buttons down the front. It was like she stole Kate's style! Several outlets including The Daily Mail and People said that the body language between the Cambridges and Sussexes at the service was tense. The Daily Mirror reported that the Sussexes went to Clarence House before the service, so they spent some time with Charles and Camilla. The Queen is not going to the horse race on Saturday the 4th so Chandra thinks the Sussexes and their children will visit her. Omid Scobie has been doing great analysis of the royal family in his new Yahoo UK column. The verdict We talk about a recent court verdict Comments of the Week My comment of the week is from Crowhood on the post about Jana Kramer having an affair with her married Dancing with The Stars partner. 123: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry smeared in Tina Brown's book, The Wessexes' Caribbean tour

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:00 We will have an episode out next week and are off May 14th. I finished the first season of Yellowstone and really liked it. Chandra is watching Gaslit and loves Betty Gilpin and Dan Stevens's performances. Chandra really liked The Batman and thinks Robert Pattinson was excellent. Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 32:00 There are two new royal books for which we are getting advanced details and interviews with the authors. The main one is Tina Brown's The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor–the Truth and the Turmoil, which came out this week on April 26th. Brown has sources in the palace as well as in the Middleton camp. Brown's book takes Harry and Meghan's strengths, like their shared vision of helping people and Meghan's skill at public speaking, and makes them sound like they're bad and a nefarious plot. Meghan is called “actressy” and characterized as swag-hungry. Chandra has been reading and reporting on the book. In the book, Brown is bitchy to everyone but in interviews she's very complimentary to Kate. Her talking points are much different than what she's been writing. In an interview Brown called Harry “unbelievably arrogant” for saying he was concerned about his grandmother. She is racist against Meghan and is downplaying the very real racism Meghan has faced, comparing it to the classism against Kate. In an interview with Marie Claire Brown trashed Meghan. She said that “Meghan got angry so fast, and that's what's rocked the family.” This is the angry Black woman stereotype. Brown has not acknowledged the fact that Meghan said in the Oprah interview that she was suicidal while she was pregnant and being smeared by the press. She does not take Harry and Meghan at their word. In the book Brown said Harry liked Meghan because she didn't come from his “narrow circle” and she “was of a breed he had not encountered.” That's so racist. Chandra mentions that Brown uses the word “ghetto” in the book when describing Meghan's career on TV cable. Brown also wrote that Kate was jealous of Meghan's style and that she was jealous of her sister, Pippa. In another part of the book, Brown wrote about how Carole coached Kate to land and keep William. Carole strategized with Kate about how to handle William when he was cheating on her. Another royal book is coming out on June 21, William at 40: The Making of a Modern Monarch, by Robert Jobson. The advance story we heard from that is about what a rage monster William is, which we already know. Harry's strength in being a calm, even-tempered person who has been to therapy is painted as a weakness by the press when William is the one flying off the handle. Chandra credits Robert Lacey's book Battle of Brothers for setting the narratives that these other royal biographies are following. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Zakia wonder about the press messaging. Chandra says that the Invictus Games was a turning point that showed how petty and negative the British press is. The Wessexes did their Caribbean tour, where they're getting much the same reception as the Cambridges did on their struggle tour just with less publicity. Sophie and Edward tried to do it low key, but they still got told that several Caribbean countries want reparations and intend to become republics. When the Queen passes, the commonwealth will be all but over. Prince Charles and Camilla are doing a three day tour of Canada from May 17th to May 19th. Chandra wonders why he's going for such a short time and thinks it's because he doesn't trust his relatives around the Queen. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royal tour and the commonwealth countries. Kate did an outing in London with Princess Anne on Thursday where they visited their maternal health patronages. There are about three photos where Anne and other people are side-eyeing Kate. I asked Chandra if she had larger versions of those photos from our agency and curiously those unflattering photos were the only ones out of the set which were lower resolution. Comments of the Week: Minutes 32:00 to end My comment of the week is from notasugarhere on the post about Donald Trump telling Piers Morgan that Prince Harry is whipped. Chandra's comment of the week is from ThatsNotOkay on the post about Olivia Wilde getting served with custody papers at CinemaCon. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 We changed our plans and will be taking off next week for Easter. Our next episode will be out April 23rd. Serena Williams' tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has announced he'll train Simona Halep. Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 17:30 Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were part of a fraud case involving their mom and dad. Eugenie defended her payment of £25,000 by saying she thought it was for her mom's birthday party. Beatrice received £750,000 for her wedding, which was during lockdown in July, 2020. She didn't issue a statement like Eugenie but a source told the DM “She knew nothing about this, poor thing.” We think Charles' fingerprints are all over this news.  There are still stories about the Cambridges moving to Windsor and that they're looking for estates there. Chandra thinks they're going to keep Kensington Palace apartment one and Anmer Hall. We don't know where they'll move yet, but they're likely putting out feelers seeing which property Charles and the Queen will give them. Meanwhile we're still getting analysis of the Cambridges' ridiculous Caribbean tour and of The Queen bringing Andrew with her to Philip's memorial. The Queen and Prince Andrew think Andrew can make a comeback and they're obviously focusing on that. As soon as the Queen dies Andrew will be out of sight. Duchess Meghan posted a sweet letter to the animal rescue organization, Mayhew, for which she was a patron for three years. Mayhew announced that Meghan was no longer a patron as of January. Meghan's letter referenced her dog Guy's “debilitating accident.” Guy's two legs were broken in a mysterious incident in 2017 after Meghan moved to the UK. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals. Chandra thinks it was Meghan's idea to step away from Mayhew. Ghosts: Minutes 17:30 to 25:30 We shared some creepy ghost stories in episodes 16, 34 and 71. Vanessa Hudgens was just on the Kelly Clarkson show. Chandra was sick last week with a GI illness that's been making the rounds. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 18:00 Last week when we were off the Cambridges had their royal tour of the Caribbean. We thought it would go poorly but it went so much worse than we expected. They had multiple photo ops where they reminded people that they're out of touch colonialists. They got dumped live on camera by the Jamaican Prime Minister and they did the standing up riding in the Jeep photo op after that. It was so bad that mainstream international media was picking up the story. We will see less royal tours after this and there are rumors of an inquest as well. William's final statement about the tour sounded angry that it didn't go as he expected. Kate's fashion and appearances were an embarrassment. Her fashion is sending a message that she wants to return to a bygone era. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. We wonder if the Jamaican prime minister's hand was forced by how badly William and Kate were doing on the tour. Charles set them up all along, like Chandra has been saying. Prince Charles and Camilla did a little two day victory lap tour of Ireland toward the end of the Cambridges' Caribbean tour. We also had the memorial for Prince Philip this week. That was similarly a disaster because The Queen was accompanied by Prince Andrew. This was her idea and she insisted on it according to the press. Other sources said that it was Andrew's idea and he pushed it on the Queen. A lot of the royal family and many European monarchs came to the memorial, but of course Prince Harry wasn't there. Rose Hanbury was there though. Harry was criticized for choosing to stay home despite the security situation. We're looking forward to the Invictus Games, which start on April 16th. Oscars and Will Smith: Minutes 18 to 36:30 We had the Oscars over the weekend and there were no upsets in the major categories. We're so happy that CODA won Best Picture. The ceremony was bloated with nonsensical clip montages and tributes to various movies. Chris Rock presented Best Documentary, which went to Questlove for Summer of Soul. We loved that movie! Watch it on Hulu if you haven't seen it yet. Chris made an awful joke about Jada Pinkett Smith in his stupid opener. The Academy can't get their story straight about whether they knew about the joke or whether Chris adlibbed it. After that Will walked up to Chris, smacked him with an open hand, returned to his seat and said “keep my wife's name out of your f'ing mouth.” I thought it was a bit at first but soon learned it really happened. Chandra remembered that Chris has been targeting Jada for years. Jada has alopecia and has been open about the fact that she's sensitive about her hair loss. Tanisha, who used to write with us as Oya, has alopecia and covered some of the stories about Jada's hair loss. I play a segment from Zoom where Tanisha, Zakia, Jasmine, April and Ameerah talk about this. Chandra points out that the Academy handled this incident poorly and should have done something to diffuse the situation. Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry, Bradley Cooper and Nicole Kidman were comforting Will and Jada. Will's publicist talked to him in the audience. There are competing reports as to whether the Academy asked Will to leave. Will's Oscar speech afterwards was raw and emotional. In the story about Jim Carrey condemning Will Smith, Chandra asked white people to leave space for people of color. We got hate mail and hate comments for that. Chandra appreciated how people were deferential to Denzel in the aftermath of the incident. Comments of the Week: Minutes 36:30 to end My comment of the week is from Mika on the post about Prince Andrew thinking he's young and should get another chance with the public. Chandra's comment of the week is from Byzant on the post about Kate preening at the memorial. Thanks for listening bitches!

Was this the worst royal tour ever? We're discussing the Cambridges' trip to the Caribbean, and why it offers the clearest evidence yet that this generation of royals aren't capable of modernising the monarchy or sustaining it in the decades to come. From Prince William's almost hilariously underwhelming speeches to Kate Middleton's incongruous throwback wardrobe lacking in local designers — not to mention some of the worst photo opps in PR history — we look back on the ultimate royal disastour.Support us on Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/heirheads

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 8:45 Chandra loved CODA, but wishes that The French Dispatch and Cruella got more attention this year. We both saw Summer of Soul and want it to win Best Documentary. Chandra is watching The Golden Age and loves it. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about The Golden Age. Jane Campion: Minutes 8:45 to 17:30 Power of The Dog won Best Picture and Best Director at the BAFTAs, Critics Choice and at the Directors Guild Awards. Oscar voting runs from March 17th until the 22nd. Although Power of The Dog might have been considered the frontrunner for Best Picture and Director after it won so much, that has hopefully changed after director Jane Campion put down Venus and Serena Williams in her speech at the Critics Choice Awards. On Monday Campion issued an apology. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Zakia pointed out that Venus and Serena got a standing ovation when they presented King Richard and that's why Jane Campion tried to take them down. We hope that Power of The Dog doesn't win at The Oscars. Royals: Minutes 17:30 to 31:00 Last week we talked about Prince Williams' racist gaffe during a visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre with Kate in which he said “it's very alien to see this in Europe.” The palace refused to issue a follow up statement or clarification. William didn't go to the BAFTAs last Sunday even though he's the honorary president. The Cambridges are still planning that Caribbean tour which is scheduled for March 19th to the 26th. Chandra wonders if The Cambridges are being set up to fail because Jamaica wants to leave the commonwealth. Prince Harry is promoting the Invictus Games, which will take place at The Hague from April 16th to The 22nd. We got a cute video of him trying to speak Dutch to organizers over Zoom. Harry is not planning to visit the Queen when he is in Europe and is not planning on attending the memorial for Prince Phillip on March 29th. Chandra thinks Harry will try to see the Queen around his trip. Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, was in New York for four days but got hardly any attention because no one is interested in her. She brought her own photographer which is good since none of the photo agencies bothered to cover her appearances. On Tuesday she delivered a keynote speech at the UN at the Upholding Women's Rights in Afghanistan event. The big event this week was the Commonwealth Service, which was on Tuesday at Westminster Abbey. The Queen was not there. The only royals who attended were Kate, William, Camilla and Charles. The 2020 Commonwealth Service was legendary. Kate and William went to the annual St. Patrick's Day parade for the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. We talk about dog breeds. I want a dog that doesn't shed and isn't so big it has a lot of poo to pick up, but can hike with me. (We didn't talk about this but my mom is telling me to get a Havanese. She also likes Greyhounds and she has a Miniature Schnauzer.) Comments of the Week: Minutes 31:00 to end My comment of the week is from Megan on the post where Kanye worried that Pete is going to get Kim hooked on drugs. Chandra's comments of the week are from Feeshalori, equality and Sue E Generis on the post about the Cambridges' Caribbean tour. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:30 I saw King Richard and loved it. I want it to win Best Picture. I also saw CODA and Drive My Car. I liked CODA a lot and Drive My Car was deep but too long. Chandra saw Dune and thought it was really good. Oscar Isaac was especially hot in it. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 20:00 William and Kate visited the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London, where William made the obviously racist statement that “For our generation, it's very alien to see this in Europe.” An initial article claimed that William said that Britons were more used to seeing conflict in Africa and Asia, however the reporter, Richard Palmer, took that part of his reporting back and said he “misheard” William. A less than 30 second video was released of the Cambridges from behind where the only thing you could hear was the direct quote in the article. The quote from William was still racist. It reminds us of the racist remarks from the press about the war in Ukraine. This isn't the first time Prince William has said racist things in public. In November of last year he made a conservation speech in which he called population growth in Africa “a huge challenge for conservationists,” and he said essentially the same thing in 2017. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra thinks that William gets briefings but thinks that he knows better. We heard that Samantha Markle, Meghan's grifter half sister, is suing her for $75,000 for supposedly misrepresenting their childhood and their relationship in the Oprah interview. Samantha is claiming that it hurt the sales of her self published book. It's clearly a money grab and Meghan's lawyer issued an awesome statement. There was speculation that Meghan might be deposed for this, which is doubtful. Last week we talked about Dan Wootton's piece saying that Kate will be making appearances without William. The Daily Mail had another story saying that Kate is “more confident” and “relaxed” on trips without him. Royal commenter Angela Levin said that Kate devoted her life to making William happy and helping him feel “important and worthy” which is really true. We got a surprise photo of Prince Harry at a rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas over the weekend. It's unclear why he was there but Biden was also in Fort Worth at the same time. We can't figure out what Harry was doing in Texas though. Camilla Tominey wrote an article about how the Sussexes “are rarely seen in LA and certainly not in the Hollywood party scene” and that they don't even go to the awards shows. She seems mad that we haven't seen enough of them. There's speculation that they'll come visit the Queen in April.  There are some positive stories about the Sussexes. Royal commenter Tom Quinn said that Harry is madly in love with Meghan. Commenter Peter Hunt wrote in the Irish Times that the royals should have worked harder to accommodate Harry and Meghan. Ryan Coogler: Minutes 20:00 to 27:30 Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was handcuffed by cops and removed from a Bank of America in Atlanta in January when he tried to withdraw $12,000 from his own account. He wrote a letter to the teller on the withdrawal slip saying he wanted her to count the money somewhere else and be discreet. He also put his card and pin number in and gave his identification to the teller. The initial reporting by TMZ mischaracterized this and made it sound like he was suspicious. In the 911 call the teller admits that he gave her his identification but says it was from California and that her supervisor told her to call the police. It's ridiculous that Bank of America would do this to one of their customers. We had people in our comments trolling hard for Bank of America and claiming that they had insider information. It was very suspicious. Chandra remembers the story that Chris Rock would keep a camera in his car to document how many times he was stopped by police. I recommend getting a dash cam.  Comments of the Week: Minutes 27:30 to end Kaiser's comment of the week is from Luna17 on the post about Sweden's Princess Victoria & Daniel stepping out together following divorce rumors. My comment of the week is from Lena on the post for the trailer of Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas's film Deep Water. Thanks for listening bitches!
