In his latest book, Maxim Furek, a former psychologist and rock journalist, delves into the intriguing world of Bigfoot synchronicity, embracing interdimensional theories, mass hallucinations, and Jung's collective unconscious.Furek's dedication to the subject is evident in the hundreds of accounts from researchers who strive to answer the question, "If it's not flesh and blood, then what is it?"This question forms the heart of the author's evocative thesis as he tirelessly scours American and Canadian records for evidence of this elusive cryptid. For centuries, early newspapers printed accounts of bipedal creatures, variously listed as "Wild Men," "Hairy Giants," or "Sasquatch," a narrative that has expanded into a larger scientific, religious, and paranormal reality. This reality, as Furek presents it, is a complex web of scientific theories, religious interpretations, and paranormal phenomena that intersect in the study of Bigfoot.Furek's investigation into the tribes of true believers congregating at conferences, campsites, and online websites is a testament to their shared philosophy and "Bigfoot's sociocultural energy."He takes issue with hoaxers, whom he charges "have sold their souls," but his respect for the believers is unwavering. The author challenges traditional beliefs about Bigfoot and encourages readers to embrace the seemingly impossible. This blogcast explores “Do I Follow?" written by Fr. Andrew P. St. Hilaire and read by Brian Rhude.Title:Blogcast: Do I Follow? Description:This blogcast explores “Do I Follow?" written by Fr. Andrew P. St. Hilaire and read by Brian Rhude. In this blog post, Fr. Andrew reflects on St. Andrew's following of Christ and our own call to follow Christ. This year's theme for the 2023 New York Encounter beautifully illustrates our current situation. To paraphrase, the theme highlights that the last few years have strengthened within each of us a desire for authentic community, a community that is truly interdependent. The uncertainty of the past few years (and the feeling of our inadequacy to face said uncertainty) have intensified our desire to be seen, accepted, and affirmed by someone in the flesh. We yearn for the presence of someone in our life who is not scandalized or embarrassed by our brokenness and sins. We desire the presence of someone who understands our life with certainty and accompanies us throughout it. We long for a presence that truly sees us and unconditionally loves us. This is why Andrew followed Jesus along the road. For the first time, Andrew experienced this presence that saw him, a presence that understood his own life better than he did, a presence that filled this need. This is why Andrew was able to respond with such simplicity and certainty—a simplicity and certainty which would seem absurd to any outsider (think about the absurdity of following someone along the road whom you have barely met!). But the exceptional presence of Christ—the fulfillment of his desire to be seen and loved—draws out this unquestionable attraction and clarity in Andrew. The season of Advent can draw out this unquestionable attraction and clarity within each one of us. This beautiful yet short liturgical season proposes a time to reawaken this desire and see with renewed eyes the exceptionality of Christ. In our longing to be seen, known, and loved, Advent proposes the coming of the only presence that can fill this need. Advent gives us, if you will, a space “underneath” in which we can listen close to the song of our heart. Author:Fr. Andrew P. St. Hilaire is a priest of the Diocese of Harrisburg, PA. Denzel Brown, a native of Lancaster and a graduate of McCaskey High School, has carved a path of academic and professional achievement that underscores his commitment to economic empowerment. Brown furthered his education at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) and Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. His career trajectory includes significant experience in the banking sector, having worked at Santander Bank, BB&T, and First National Bank of Pennsylvania. During his tenure in these institutions, Brown excelled as a lender and relationship manager, cultivating vital business relationships and gaining valuable insights into financial services. Brown's expertise and passion have led him to ASSETS, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming communities through social enterprise and economic development. He firmly believes that the key to bridging the economic gap for women and minorities lies in business ownership and success, which can be fostered through accessible business capital tailored to these often underserved markets. This perspective is informed by his understanding of the systemic barriers that these groups face when navigating traditional lending channels. Statistical evidence underscores the challenges that minority communities encounter in the financial sector. As recently as 2019, a significant portion of Black and Hispanic households were without basic banking services. Specifically, 13.8 percent of Black households and 12.2 percent of Hispanic households lacked a checking or savings account, a stark contrast to the 2.5 percent of white households without such accounts. This disparity is often attributed to a deep-seated mistrust of banks among many Black and Hispanic individuals, a sentiment that Brown recognizes and seeks to address through his work. Brown's approach involves not just providing knowledge but also ensuring that business capital is readily available and specifically tailored to meet the needs of minority entrepreneurs. By doing so, he aims to foster an environment where economic success is attainable for all, thereby narrowing the economic divide. His work at ASSETS reflects a broader mission to empower communities by dismantling financial barriers and creating inclusive opportunities for economic growth.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today we have another special guest on the podcast, Chris Heskett. Chris is an assistant coach and head of operations at LWA coaching. Chris first started his health and fitness journey back in 2005 when competed in cross country and track in high school. He had the opposite goal of most people, and that was to build muscle. This led him to have a passion for health, fitness, and nutrition and he decided to go to school for exercise science instead of pursuing a degree in art which was recommended by his teachers. While in college, Chris had the privilege to work as the strength coach for a DII women's basketball team and did a strength and conditioning internship at Bucknell University. After graduating from Bloomsburg University, Chris worked as a personal trainer for the next 8 years working mostly with men and women over 40. After Chris's wife became pregnant with their first daughter, Chris left the in-person training world and entered the online coaching space in 2021. Chris's goal with clients is to find balance in their life for long-term sustainable goals so that they can enjoy life while improving their health, mindset, and can escape toxic diet culture. Truth in Learning: in Search of Something! Anything!! Anybody?
This episode's topics: Is AI cheating? What is the impact on intellectual property? Learner assessment? Heck, even job replacement? These questions are both philosophical and pragmatic. What about the value of critical thinking... and does AI take that application away? We explore ways to use AI more effectively... but recognize we cannot even fathom some of the consequences, yet. In the spirit of Christmas and Santa Claus, is it ok to ever lie to your learners? What is the value of the "white lie?" What is fiction in the context of learning? Is it a lie? How do we use or adapt case studies? We discuss the more nuanced, ethical questions related to the truth in the context of learning. Joining Matt and Clark is Karl Kapp. Karl is a professor of instructional technology and the Director of the Institute for Interactive Technologies at Bloomsburg University. He is also the founder of the Learning and Development Mentor Academy where he offers tons of self-paced workshops and live sessions for seasoned L&D professionals. Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present an encore appearance by paranormal researcher Maxim W. Furek, whose eclectic background includes aspects of psychology, addictions, and rock journalism. He has a master's degree in Communications from Bloomsburg University and a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Aquinas College. The main focus of this episode is the legend of the Philadelphia Experiment, about a purported attempt during World War II to make ships invisible to the enemy, with results that went awry. Furek will also explore the pop culture of the early days of the modern UFO field, featuring such controversial characters as Ray Palmer and Richard S. Shaver. Furek has written numerous rock biographies, as well as paranormal-themes books, such as Coal Region Hoodoo: Paranormal Tales from Inside the Pit and Flying Saucer Esoteric. He is a contributor to Fate Magazine, Normal Paranormal, and Paranormal Underground. The book Flying Saucer Esoteric: The Altered States of Ufology cxplores the chronology of “flying saucers,” tracing historical accounts of theologians and astronomers who lived in the days Before Christ to the 2023 Congressional hearings and the Mexican alien corpses myth.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: Caroline Moore—Vice President of Parents Defending Education—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss a report from The Daily Signal documenting a Colorado public school which mandated an 11-year-old girl share a bed with a biological male, who identifies as a girl, during a school trip without ever notifying the girl's parents. You can read the story here: https://www.dailysignal.com/2023/12/04/exclusive-school-assigned-girl-sleep-boy-who-identifies-trans-parental-notification/. You can learn more about Parent Defending Freedom here: https://defendinged.org While speaking with Bloomberg news, former Vice President Al Gore compared social media algorithms to AR-15s. He said of algorithms: “They are the digital equivalent of AR-15s. They ought to be banned. They really ought to be banned. It's an abuse of the public forum…These devices are the enemies of self-government, and they are the enemies of democracy.” On Tuesday, Harvard University President Claudine Gay testified before the House Education and Workforce Committee. During one noteworthy exchange with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Gay refused to say anti-Semitic speech was violative of the school's code of conduct—arguing that Harvard is an ardent supporter of free speech. In 2020, Rep. Stefanik was appointed to a Senior Advisory position with the Harvard Institute of Politics—however, because she was a vocal supporter of Donald Trump during the 2020 election, the student body protested the appointment and Harvard ultimately fired her. So, the notion that Harvard is an ardent supporter of free speech is flawed—they seem to only support speech provided it gels with the popular progressive opinions of the moment. The Rich Zeoli Show is preempted for college basketball—the Temple Owls take on Bloomsburg University on 1210 WPHT.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (12/06/2023): 3:05pm- While speaking from the White House on Wednesday, President Joe Biden blamed Republicans for “holding Ukraine's funding hostage with their extreme partisan border policies.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) has said that any agreement to send tens-of-billions of dollars in additional aid to Ukraine would need to be accompanied with funding for security at the U.S. Southern border. During his speech, President Biden conceded that the U.S. suffers from a “broken immigration system,” though he did not mention the border specifically—despite thousands of migrants unlawfully entering the U.S. every day due to relaxed border security policies adopted under his administration. 3:20pm- Karoun Demirjian and Marc Santora of The New York Times write: “President Biden's urgent push to replenish Ukraine's war chest and send aid to Israel is on the brink of collapse in the Senate, where Republicans are prepared on Wednesday to block the funding unless Democrats agree to add strict measures to clamp down on migration at the U.S. border with Mexico. A classified briefing with administration officials called to shore up support devolved into a partisan screaming match on Tuesday afternoon, with Republicans angrily accusing Democrats of trying to steamroller over their demands for a border crackdown. Republican senators leaving the briefing said they were outraged that administration officials had refused to answer their questions about border security, which they said was a prerequisite for any plan to send emergency help to American allies.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/05/us/politics/ukraine-aid-zelensky-congress.html 3:35pm- During his speech from the White House on Wednesday, President Joe Biden claimed that “history will judge harshly those who turn their back on” funding Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression. 3:40pm- While briefly taking questions from the White House press, President Joe Biden denied that he ever had any interactions with Hunter Biden's business associates, or any involvement with foreign businesses. 3:50pm- While appearing with Sean Hannity at a town hall event in Iowa on Tuesday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he does not believe President Joe Biden will be the Democrat nominee for president in 2024—suggesting it will likely be California Governor Gavin Newsom or Vice President Kamala Harris. 4:05pm- At a campaign fundraiser in Boston on Tuesday, President Joe Biden told his supporters that he's not certain he would be running for reelection if it weren't for Donald Trump also being in the race—explaining that Trump is a threat to American democracy. 4:15pm- Brooke Singman of Fox News writes: “As vice president, Joe Biden used email aliases and private email addresses to communicate with son Hunter Biden and Hunter's business associates hundreds of times, new records released by the House Ways & Means Committee revealed. The committee obtained metadata from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler that reveals Joe Biden used alias email accounts 327 times during a nine-year period—2010 to 2019—to correspond with his son, Hunter, and one of Hunter's key business associates, Eric Schwerin, among others. The majority of the email traffic took place while Biden was vice president.” You can read the full article here: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-was-in-direct-contact-with-hunters-business-partners-using-email-alias-as-vp 4:30pm- While appearing on Fox News with Sean Hannity, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump jokingly said he wouldn't be a dictator “except for day 1…I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill…After that, I'm not a dictator.” 4:45pm- The Daily Wire's new movie, “Lady Ballers,” which is streaming exclusively on their website, is now the number one streamed film in America according to Rotten Tomatoes. The Daily Wire co-founder, and star of the film, Jeremy Boreing explained that theaters won't touch the film because it pokes fun at biological males competing in women's sports. 4:55pm- While speaking with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Donald Trump revealed that former U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) once revealed to him that then-Senator Joe Biden was considered the “dumbest” member of the U.S. Senate. 5:00pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss University presidents defending anti-Semitism on their campuses while testifying before the House, and Joe Biden admitting that he's only running for reelection because he dislikes Donald Trump. Plus, Jimmy talks about his new book, “Cancel Culture Dictionary: An A-to-Z Guide to Winning the War on Fun.” You can listen to The Best of Jimmy Failla every Saturday on 1210 WPHT! Should the government protect children against irreversible procedures even in the event the child's parent endorses the decision? 5:40pm- Robby Soave of Reason writes: “Sen. Rand Paul (R–KY) is trying to stop legislation that requires automakers to continue putting dashboard A.M. radio in cars. His new amendment to the A.M. radio bill would also eliminate electric vehicle subsidies.” You can read the full report here: https://reason.com/2023/12/05/rand-paul-electric-vehicle-am-radio-subsidy-bill/ 6:05pm- Caroline Moore—Vice President of Parents Defending Education—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss a report from The Daily Signal documenting a Colorado public school which mandated an 11-year-old girl share a bed with a biological male, who identifies as a girl, during a school trip without ever notifying the girl's parents. In this enlightening episode, we discuss the role of gut microbiota in chronic diseases, its impact on organs like the brain, and how factors like sex, diet, and exercise influence it. We throw light on the good, the bad, and the misunderstood bacteria within us, questioning the oversimplified labels of "good" and "bad" bacteria. We discuss how exercise and diet may lead to a healthier microbiome, and the potential for functional redundancy among the thousands of types of bacteria in our gut. Dr. Campbell shares her experience and research on the relationship between gut microbiota and exercise, shedding light on fascinating elements like butyrate, propionate, and acetate.Timeline:2:30 Gut microbiome vs. microbiota15:33 How many different kinds of bacteria are there in the gut?19:21 Is there a ‘training effect' on the gut microbiota?32:20 Fecal transplants35:36 Microbiota and mood41:17 Sex differences43:36 Probiotics and Prebiotics48:43 Pragmatic advice for a healthy gut microbiome – what should folks do?About our guest:Dr. Sara C. Wendy Lynne Lee's This is Environmental Ethics: An Introduction (John Wiley & Sons, 2022) provides students and scholars with a comprehensive introduction to the growing field of environmental philosophy and ethics. Mitigating the effects of climate change will require global cooperation and lasting commitment. Of the many disciplines addressing the ecological crisis, philosophy is perhaps best suited to develop the conceptual foundations of a viable and sustainable environmental ethic. This is Environmental Ethics provides an expansive overview of the key theories underpinning contemporary discussions of our moral responsibilities to non-human nature and living creatures. Adopting a critical approach, author Wendy Lynne Lee closely examines major moral theories to discern which ethic provides the compass needed to navigate the social, political, and economic challenges of potentially catastrophic environmental transformation, not only, but especially the climate crisis. Lee argues that the ethic ultimately adopted must make the welfare of non-human animals and plant life a priority in our moral decision-making, recognizing that ecological conditions form the existential conditions of all life on the planet. Throughout the text, detailed yet accessible chapters demonstrate why philosophy is relevant and useful in the face of an uncertain environmental future. This is Environmental Ethics is essential reading for undergraduate students in courses on philosophy, geography, environmental studies, feminist theory, ecology, human and animal rights, and social justice, as well as an excellent graduate-level introduction to the key theories and thinkers of environmental philosophy. Wendy Lynne Lee is a professor of Philosophy at Bloomsburg University. Lee has published about 45 scholarly essays in her areas of expertise—philosophy of language (particularly later Wittgenstein), philosophy of mind/brain, feminist theory, theory of sexual identity, post-Marxian theory, nonhuman animal welfare, ecological aesthetics, aesthetic phenomenology, and philosophy of ecology. Her previous work includes the book Eco-Nihilism: The Philosophical Geopolitics of the Climate Change Apocalypse (Lexington 2017). Özlem Yılmaz is a philosopher of science, with a focus on issues related to plant biology. Learn more about your ad choices. Audiology Services Summer Internship In January 2020, Audiology Services received an inquiry from Meghan Okken, an undergraduate student from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania studying communication sciences and disorders, most commonly known as speech-language pathology. Meghan was in need of audiology observation hours for her clinical observations course. Observation hours allow students to observe professionals in the communication sciences and disorders field, which assists in their clinical setting decision making process. When Meghan visited our office for the day, we were impressed with her professionalism and how she interacted with our patients. Following Meghan's visit to our office in January, we held a team meeting to discuss offering Meghan a full-time summer internship position. When we held the summer internship interview in early March, Meghan accepted the position with enthusiasm. The Importance of the Summer InternshipA few years ago, I (Blaise) was an undergraduate student studying speech-language pathology at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. It was a requirement to obtain clinical observation hours before graduation. My classmates and I needed 25 speech hours and 5 audiology hours. I was grateful for the supervisors who donated their time and allowed me and my fellow classmates to schedule observation hours in various clinical settings. Encompassing an understanding of the observation process, I personally wanted to open an internship position for an undergraduate student studying communication sciences and disorders. In addition, I've personally had mentors throughout and following my undergraduate and graduate studies. That being said, paying it forward was important to me. The purpose behind the summer internship position was to provide the opportunity for a student to observe first-hand, the processes and procedures in the private practice setting. These processes and procedures include but are not limited to: •Scheduling patients •Rescheduling patients •Greeting patients •Otoscopy •Tympanometry •Comprehensive audiological evaluations •Hearing aid clean and checks •Real ear measurement •Scheduling/hosting effective team meetings Connect with the Hearing Matters Podcast TeamEmail: hearingmatterspodcast@gmail.com Instagram: @hearing_matters_podcast Twitter: @hearing_mattasFacebook: Hearing Matters Podcast
