It's Wednesday! Sam welcomes Joel Lava from Tesla Takedown and Mase Veney, an organizer from the Philly Whole Foods Union. First, Sam runs through updates on the Trump Administration's Signal scandal over their accidental leaking of war plans, the Supreme Court's affirmation of Biden's ghost gun regulations, Pennsylvania's special election, the HHS's anti-vaxxer-headed study on autism, trickling details about the legal status of certain Venezuelans renditioned to El Salvador, Trump/Musk's plan to lay off thousands from the Treasury, the Senate GOP's budget, JD Vance's visit to Greenland, SpaceX's secret Chinese backers, and Trump's nomination for Social Security head, before diving into some of the biggest updates to the Trump team's Signal scandal with the full release of messages after Tusli Gabbard's claim that there was “no classified” information in the chat. Joel Lava then joins, diving right into the idea behind the wildly successful “Tesla Takedown” protests in attempting to undercut the overwhelming political power by hitting at its root: his massive wealth tied up in Tesla stocks. After expanding on the greater anti-Trump roots of this, Lava and Sam unpack the protests' goals and how far the stock would have to fall to really screw over Elon's business ventures, wrapping up with how you can join a protest near you – or even start your own! Mase Veney then dives into his personal history working at Whole Foods in Philadelphia, the initial bonding between coworkers over their shared experiences of mistreatment and the company's exploitation of the power imbalance, and the rapid evolution of the organizing process once he and his coworkers realized the overwhelming support the idea of unionization already had, quickly moving to work with United Food & Commercial Workers International to capitalize on their institutional knowledge of organizing within the grocery industry. After expanding on the important role UFCW played in helping them win the union vote with a strong majority, Veney and Sam shift into the Trump era, as they unpack how the company's refusal to recognize the union is bolstered by a neutered NLRB and a hostile Trump Administration, before wrapping up the interview by emphasizing the continuing campaign to keep the all coworkers invested in the fight, and how those of us outside can support the effort! And in the Fun Half: Sam watches MIke Walz try to sidestep questions about his Signal scandal from an incredulous Laura Ingraham, Senator Elizabeth Warren evicerates Trump's Social Security nominee and their relationship to DOGE, and Donald Trump shouts out the real one Chuck Schumer. Lis from California shares his perspective as a DACA recipient, and Kowalski from Nebraska unpacks Trump's terrible tariffs. Sam also watches Tim Pool and Co. go insane at the morally consistent belief in due process for all, and jumps off some criticism from the Pod Save guys as he espouses the need to unite pro-democracy and economic populist messaging. Tammy from Montreal explores a major win for Canada's indigenous communities, Nathan from Illinois talks organized religion and authoritarianism, and the MR Team dissects early results out of PA's special election, plus, your calls and IMs! Tuesday was a big day in foreign policy news. Israel launched a barrage of airstrikes on Gaza Monday night, its first attack since a ceasefire with Hamas took hold in January. Officials in Gaza say more than 400 people were killed. And President Donald Trump held a 90-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine. Putin ostensibly agreed to a 30-day limited ceasefire on energy and infrastructure targets — far short of the unconditional ceasefire proposal Ukraine and the U.S. negotiated earlier this month. Oh, and Trump threatened ‘dire consequences' for Iran over attacks from Houthi rebels in Yemen. Crooked's own Tommy Vietor, co-host of ‘Pod Save the World,' breaks down all the big international headlines and what they say about Trump's approach to foreign policy. And in headlines: Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts rebuked Trump over his calls to impeach federal judges, the Pentagon continued its purge of website pages honoring minority groups, and two stranded U.S. astronauts returned to Earth.Show Notes:Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8Support victims of the fire – votesaveamerica.com/reliefWhat A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Trump shouted down Zelensky in the Oval Office last week, and many pro-Ukraine Trump voters wished it hadn't happened like that...publicly, at least. We're a little over two weeks into President Donald Trump's second term, and already his foreign policy doctrine could be generously described as “all over the place.” From threatening to levy huge tariffs on our close allies only to delay them at the last minute to dismantling foreign aid efforts alongside the world's richest man to now volunteering the U.S. to take control of Gaza, it's all been a bit hard to keep up with. Ben Rhodes, former deputy national security advisor to President Obama and co-host of Crooked's ‘Pod Save the World,' stopped by the studio to talk about the ripple effects of Trump's early foreign policy decisions. And in headlines: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard inched closer to Senate confirmation, The Trump administration is preparing an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education, and a D.C. A trigger warning for progressives: this episode contains explicit Trump content.Nish and Coco's nightmare begins with inauguration Trump meme coins, grinning tech bros and disputed Nazi salutes. Then comes the blizzard of executive orders targeting migrants and freeing rioters. But this is not just a bad dream for our liberal hosts. This is the reality of Trump world. The groundwork of MAGA 2.0 has been laid. How should Britain react? The UK's very own “basket of deplorables” including Farage, Truss and Braverman donned their MAGA caps and descended on the US. But they didn't even scrape an invitation to the main event. Back home Keir Starmer and David Lammy opted for love-bombing the new President. But there is an alternative to a sucking up strategy. Pod Save the UK has spotted some green shoots of resistance. While Trump has thrown the Paris Climate Agreement out the window - again - the UK has an opportunity to lead the way on the environment. Negotiators announced Wednesday that Israel and Hamas had reached a temporary ceasefire deal to pause the 15-month war in Gaza and return some Israeli hostages. President Biden celebrated the news of the deal in comments at the White House, though it still has to be ratified by Israel's government. The ceasefire is set to go into effect Sunday, but it doesn't guarantee a permanent end to the war. Ultimately, it will be up to the incoming Trump administration to make sure both parties uphold their end of the agreement. The diplomatic corps reception at Buckingham Palace is always a key royal milestone on the countdown to Christmas - and an opportunity for tiaras and glamour. Princess Kate missed it this time around as she continues her recovery from cancer treatment, but Prince William (and beard) joined the King and Queen for the big event. Pod Save the King host Ann Gripper is joined by Mirror royal editor Russell Myers to talk through the week's royal news - and dig into the detail of William's very personal interview in South Africa as well as reaction to Camilla's documentary on domestic abuse. They also talk the coronation food project and a new security scare at Windsor Castle. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A TV documentary this week put a welcome spotlight on Queen Camilla's work on domestic abuse - showing again how the new Firm are working to make a difference on major issues. Pod Save the King host Ann Gripper is joined by Mirror royal features writer Jennifer Newton to discuss the documentary's impact, and catch up on a busy royal week. Camilla missed the Remembrance weekend events, but Princess Kate was able to be at the Albert Hall and the Cenotaph marking another milestone in her recovery and return to duties. And there were milestones to celebrate for Lady Louise, who turned 21, and King Charles - who looked very sprightly on the eve of his 76th birthday as he attended the Gladiator II premiere. Plus they reflect on Prince William's comments about his “hardest year”, and his plans to do royal with a ‘small r'. Pod Save the King is in South Africa this week with Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers and photographer Ian Vogler reporting from Cape Town. Our roving royal reporters have been following William's visit for the Earthshot Prize, the prestigious environmental awards he set up in 2020. Russell and Ian discuss the emotional language used by the Prince of Wales in his "searingly honest" interview about his "hardest year", where he spoke candidly about the difficulties his family has faced with their recent health diagnoses. They also chat about William's growing role as a statesman and diplomat, including his meeting with the South African president Cyril Ramaphosa, with Ian describing it as "less tiaras and crowns, and more firm handshakes and big conversations on big issues". In this special episode of Pod Save the World, Ben looks at the most existential issue of our time, and one that gets little attention on the campaign trail: climate change. He examines both Harris and Trump's records, the domestic and global benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act, the dire circumstances for small island nations and vulnerable communities, and what's at stake if the US abandons climate leadership. Ben is joined by Brian Deese, former Director of the White House National Economic Council in the Biden administration, Leah Stokes, an Associate Professor of Environmental Politics at UCSB, and Rueanna Haynes, the Head of Diplomacy, Climate Analytics, and Director of Climate Analytics, Caribbean. In this special episode of Pod Save the World, Ben looks at the most important bilateral relationship in the world today: the new era of competition between the U.S. and China. Will the U.S. drift into outright conflict with China, or can we balance competition and cooperation? He reviews China's attempt to reshape the global order, how the Biden administration has tried to get tougher on China through its trade policy, and how tensions over Taiwan could impact both our economic and military future. Ben is joined by Evan Medeiros, Professor of Asian Studies at Georgetown University, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, and Ryan Hass, Chair of Taiwan Studies at the Brookings Institution. The Government's rallying cry to the nation to help fix the NHS via a public consultation has not disappointed. In what is fast becoming the National Health Service's very own Boaty McBoatface moment, Nish and Coco dissect the wild and weird policy suggestions flooding the website. Then Jeremy Corbyn, former Labour Party leader and Independent MP for Islington North, joins to tell us how the left can make their voices heard in Parliament and whether a new leftwing political party could be on the horizon.Later, with the US elections looming, co-host of our sister show Pod Save the World Tommy Vietor calls in to discuss why the Labour party is under fire for sending hundreds of staffers to canvas for the Democrats and what the result next month might mean for US-UK relations. Finally, Nish and Coco discuss a protest from an Australian Senator who shouted directly into the ears of King Charles, which comes as the Government resists paying reparations - or even apologising for - slavery and the actions of the British Empire. Pod Save the King comes to you from Australia this week with Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers and photographer Ian Vogler discussing the upcoming Royal Visit. They discuss the Republican movement in Australia, state premiers boycotting a reception with the King, and the repatriation of Indigenous artefacts. The timing is also interesting for Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese, a sworn republican, who has been under fire recently. What can we expect from the meeting between Albanese and the King? And was Charles - when he was the Prince of Wales - taking the biscuit by not taking the Lamington cake on his last visit to New South Wales in 2018? You can get the slice of the action (sorry) from Russell and Ian in their update from the Royal Visit. Pod Save the King is a Reach Studio production, edited by Daniel J. McLaughlin. On Tuesday night, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump faced off in their first and currently only scheduled presidential debate. The candidates went back and forth on the biggest issues in the election, including reproductive rights, the economy, immigration, and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. But while VP Harris largely stayed on message, Trump often descended into conspiracy theories and lies. Tommy Vietor, host of Pod Save America and Pod Save the World, joins to give his post-debate analysis.Show Notes:Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
