Prince Harry is causing shockwaves yet again after a bombshell BBC interview in which he moaned about his lack of around-the-clock security and said he'd like to reconcile with his father King Charles, before speculating on how much time he has left amid his cancer battle. His taxpayer-funded security was downgraded when he and Meghan stopped working for the royal family and moved to the US to work on podcasts and TV shows. But Harry still gets state-funded police protection in the UK, notifying them of his trips on a case-by-case basis. Yet he claims he's not safe in the UK, despite making a trip to Ukraine - and is now blaming everybody other than himself, including his estranged father. With this happening after their Oprah interview and his tell-all book ‘Spare', have the Sussexes severed any final tie to the royals? Early tensions between the royal step-siblings have evolved into a more harmonious relationship, according to royal author Katie Nicholl's 2010 book "Harry and William." The relationship between Prince William and Laura Lopes, Queen Camilla's daughter, was particularly fraught in their youth, with heated confrontations over their parents' relationships.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! Prince Harry's upcoming Netflix show POLO is galloping into queues this December, and fans can officially mark the premiere date down. The show will debut Dec. 10 and is executive produced by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It features a behind-the-scenes look at the world of polo, according to Netflix, which officially shared POLO's release date on Nov. 20. The five-episode docuseries follows polo players "on and off the field as they compete in the high-stakes U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida," Netflix said. "Through fierce rivalries and intense training, viewers will get an unprecedented glimpse into the dedication and skill required to compete at the sport's highest level." Katie Nicholl, author of The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown, shared her thoughts about the possible royal upheaval on The Sun‘s Royal Show. “One person who's probably sitting there thinking ‘this is what I've been saying all along' is the Duke of Sussex,” She said. “Let's be more open, let's show more empathy, let's do things a little bit differently.” It's essentially the playbook Harry and Meghan Markle asked for — and were denied — ahead of their exit from the palace. Kate, the Princess of Wales, was absent Tuesday as members of Britain's royal family hosted one of their most decorated annual events. King Charles has confiscated all the valuable objects from The Royal Lodge in preparation for his brother Prince Andrew. The Duke of York has found somebody else willing to pay his bills after King Charles cut off his cashflow... and one critic says parliament should make 'urgent inquiries' into where the money is coming from. Denzel Washington detailed his experience meeting King Charles III with the Gladiator II cast at the film's London premiere. A SHOCK documentary will portray Queen Camilla as Prince Harry's “wicked stepmother”. The Channel 4 film suggests she spent 30 years honing her media image — but that the late Queen Elizabeth never wanted her to sit on the throne. ________________________________________ Contact Me: Call: (305) 699-5548 Email: HelloSharion@Gmail.com Creator Collab Sheet: https://forms.gle/WMhmSQy4vJfs95X39 Brand Collab Sheet: https://forms.gle/CuWmKLUrx86xwyNV6 Hashtags #HarryandMeghan #PrinceHarry #PrincessMeghan #DuchessMeghan #MeghanMarkle #RoyalFamily #SussexSquad #SharionSade #brf #InvictusGamesFoundation #InvictusGames #IGF #IAM #IAmInvictus #InvictusGamesVancouverWhistler2025 #InvictusGamesVancouverWhistler #WeAreInvictus Sources People Magazine | Netflix Drops Release Date for Prince Harry's POLO Doc: https://people.com/netflix-drops-release-date-prince-harry-polo-docuseries-8634869#comments She Knows | How Prince William Could Follow Prince Harry's Footsteps: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/prince-william-could-harry-footsteps-160033672.html ABC News | Kate Middleton Misses White Tie Event: https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/kate-middleton-misses-white-tie-event-hosted-charles/story?id=116021454 IMDB | King Charles Confiscates Paintings from Andrew: https://m.imdb.com/news/ni64963852/?ref_=nws_nwr_li Scottish Daily Express | Prince Andrew's Source of Funding Urgently Scrutinised: https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/uk-news/prince-andrews-mystery-source-funding-34132735 E News | Denzel Washington Meets King Charles: https://www.eonline.com/news/1410140/denzel-washington-reveals-what-king-charles-iii-told-him-during-friendly-exchange The Irish Sun | Channel 4 Doc About Camilla "Wicked Stepmother": https://www.thesun.ie/royals/13906622/channel-4-doc-queen-camilla-prince-harry/
This spring, Catherine, Princess of Wales, ended a long silence and rampant public speculation with a solemn video announcing her cancer diagnosis. In the final episode of DYNASTY: The Windsors' Most Difficult Year, hosts Claire Howorth, Katie Nicholl, and Erin Vanderhoof explain why the message that accompanied her diagnosis was the most important speech of her royal career, and what it says about the Catherine we will see in the future. After a year of struggle, is the monarchy emerging into a new, calmer era? And what lessons will the Windsors take away from their brushes with ill-health and public speculation?
Critics at Large is off this week. In the meantime, enjoy a recent episode from Vanity Fair's “Dynasty,” hosted by the executive editor Claire Howorth, along with the correspondents Katie Nicholl and Erin Vanderhoof. It's been four years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry walked away from their royal roles, sparking an endless stream of media attention and second-guessing from tabloids in the U.K. In the time since, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been carving out a semi-royal path in the court of Montecito, California. They've struck big-ticket Hollywood deals worth millions of dollars. Is their newfound celebrity status sustainable? To discover more from “Dynasty” and other Vanity Fair podcasts, visit vanityfair.com/podcasts.
When King Charles III announced his cancer diagnosis in February, there was an outpouring of emotion in the UK, along with some concern about what it would look like if the monarch not wasn't able to greet his public on a daily basis. From the beginning, the king balanced his treatments with his duties, and privately he told his medical team that attending Trooping the Colour, the parade that marks his birthday, was nonnegotiable. By the time the June celebration rolled around, the king was out on the Buckingham Palace balcony with Queen Camilla at his side, and the clouds over the Windsors' future seemed to part. On this week's episode of DYNASTY: The Royal Family's Most Challenging Year, hosts Claire Howorth, Katie Nicholl, and Erin Vanderhoof return to the unprecedented events of the year, and Charles' embrace of radical (for royals, anyway) transparency.
After a year in which the British Royal Family has been forced to foreground its humanity and vulnerability, DYNASTY is returning for a special four-episode series to examine the events and share behind-the-scenes details. On this inaugural episode, hosts Claire Howorth, Katie Nicholl, and Erin Vanderhoof discuss Prince William's role as the royal responsible for holding the family together amid a maelstrom of illness and personal rifts. How has William balanced his public role with his private challenges? Has he recovered from the hit to his reputation when Harry spilled in his memoir, Spare? And if his reign were to come sooner than anyone imagined, would he be ready?
NBC's Molly Hunter and Katie Nicholl are LIVE at Buckingham Palace with more on the global outpouring of support for Princess Kate following her cancer diagnosis. Plus, NBC's Dr. Natalie Azar is answering your seasonal medical questions. Also, catching up with actor Corey Stroll ahead of the Broadway debut of “Appropriate.” And, TODAY Digital Director Arianna Davis rounds up the top trending stories on today.com.
My two main niches in both my life and my work are books (but you already knew that) and the royal family. You may not know this about me—or maybe you do—but my main specialty coverage area in my work is the royals, and boy, has it been one hell of a ride in the British royal family this year, especially with one Kate Middleton as of late. One of the best royal correspondents in the game is our guest today, Vanity Fair's Erin Vanderhoof, who is deeply talented and someone I consider to be the gold standard in royal reporting. In addition to covering the royal family, she also covers culture, books, and music for Vanity Fair, and she and fellow royal expert Katie Nicholl co-host the podcast “Dynasty” about the royal family, which I love. Yet another podcast I need more episodes from! Erin's reporting on the royals has been featured on Today, NBC News, BBC's Newsnight, CBS Sunday Mornings, and CNN, where, randomly, Erin and I appeared together on a 5 a.m. segment the day after the Queen died talking about her passing. I enjoyed hearing about Erin's entry point into covering the royals, hearing about her favorite royal family books, and, interestingly, about her past jobs as a teacher and a butcher. Royal reporting is a very interesting beat, and Erin is the leader of the pack. Erin's work at Vanity Fair “Dynasty” podcast Katie Nicholl's books Tina Brown's books + I love leaving you with three! In this month's series, we'll take a look at the dark side of royalty. I will detail crimes, sex scandals, and even murders that have occurred within royal families. First up, a member of the British royal family, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York's reputation is muddied when his close, personal friend, Jeffrey Epstein, is exposed as a sex trafficker of underage girls. Prince Andrew will fall even further into disgrace when one of Epstein's victims accuses him of sexual assault while she was a minor. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 My dog did not do well at doggy day care. I've been watching 9-1-1. Chandra is watching Archer and Abbott Elementary. I watched a few House of the Dragon episodes but I didn't care about anyone. Chandra is reading the book Blackout by Erin Flanagan but she hates it. Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 22:15 Of the three royal biographies we talked about last week, Valentine Low's Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Throne has the most tea. Low wrote about how Meghan was smeared back in March of 2021, right before the Oprah interview aired, for wearing earrings which were a wedding gift from Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who ordered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. It's unclear what Meghan was told about the provenance of the jewelry. These earrings were part of the royal collection and had to be lent to Meghan to wear. Katie Nicholl wrote in The New Royals about how mad the royal rota was at Harry and Meghan for keeping the news of Archie's birth a secret at first and for staging the photos at Windsor castle. Meghan said in her Oprah interview that she was scared Archie wasn't going to be kept safe because he wasn't being given a title or security, and that she also wasn't asked to pose for photos outside the hospital. Nicholl said in an interview that staffers were mad that Meghan expected them to do work, essentially. She also wrote that Charles was jealous of Diana, that he was jealous of Kate and that Kate and William were jealous of Meghan. We got a new official photo of Charles, Camilla, William and Kate that was taken on September 18th at a diplomatic reception the day before Queen Elizabeth's funeral. The tone is off as they're all smiling. We talk about how Kate raided the Queen's jewelry right after the Queen died. We also got two new photo portraits of Meghan and Harry, taken at the One Young World Summit before the Queen passed. Charles wants to stop Harry's memoir. The Telegraph reported that Charles is considering getting his lawyers to explore options. They're also upset about Harry and Meghan's upcoming Netflix documentary. Last week we talked about how Queen Margrethe of Denmark was taking away the HRH and Prince and Princess titles from her four grandchildren from her younger son, Prince Joaquim. Joaquim and his second wife, Mary, gave an interview admitting that they were hurt by this decision and that their relationship with the family was complicated. After that Margrethe apologized and said she hopes that they can all make peace, but that she stands by her decision. Joaquim's oldest son, former Prince Nikolai, 23, said he's in shock and sad about the decision. Joaquim and Mary have been living in France for years. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about the royals. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 22:15 to 28:30 We last talked about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in episode 132, when the heavily redacted FBI report came out. We didn't hear until now that Brad choked one of their children, that he poured beer and wine on the children, and that he hit one of the children in the face. Those details were included in Jolie's cross complaint to his objection to her selling her portion of Chateau Miraval, their wine company. It took her years of legal harassment from Brad to come out with this information. She gave him so many chances to buy out her portion of the company. Stoli, which bought Angelina's portion of the business, is now suing Brad. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about Brad and Angelina. Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady: Minutes 28:30 to 31:45 Gisele Bundchen is divorcing Tom Brady. This divorce has been exceptional in that she's been clear about the reasons she's doing it, because he went back to playing football after announcing his retirement. She's been caring for their children for years and he's promised her that she could return to her career when he retired but he reneged on that. They're being admirably open about their problems. Gisele's Elle interview was so breezy and forward-focused. There was a story about how Tom was attentive to their children “in the off season.” Comments of the Week: 31:45 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Emmi on the post about who should be the next Bond. My comment of the week is from girl ninja on the post about Naomi Watts talking about menopause. Thanks for listening bitches!
In this episode, we discuss the final events of the mourning period in the UK following Queen Elizabeth's death, and what's ahead for King Charles III. In our Royals Around The World segment, we discuss the current drama between members of the Danish Royal Family. Lastly, we interview royal expert Katie Nicholl, on her new book, "The New Royals | Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown." Follow us on Instagram @podcastroyal Email us at hellopodcastroyal@gmail.com Royals mentioned in this episode: King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, The Prince of Wales (Prince William), The Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton), The Earl of Wessex (Prince Edward), Princess Anne, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip), The Duke of Sussex (Prince Harry), The Duchess of Sussex (Meghan Markle), Queen Margrethe of Denmark, Prince Joachim of Denmark, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden.
Katie Nicholl shares details of her new book “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's legacy and the future of the crown.” Also, Kristen Dahlgren gets a taste of what it takes to be a Ben & Jerry's “Flavor guru.” Plus, Amy E. Goodman shares some products that will benefit the breast cancer search. And, Dr. Ken Ginsburg talks about his new book “Congrats You're Having A Teen.”
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7 My new puppy is doing great but I don't let him sleep in my room. Chandra started watching Blonde and it's not as bad as she expected. (Update: She finished and it's bad.) Roger Federer retired after playing his final match with Rafa Nadal and it was sadder than Chandra expected. Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 30:00 Last week we had the Queen's funeral on Monday. We were surprised how long the public portion was and didn't expect the Windsor portion to be aired. Both Harry and Meghan were impeccable and regal at the many ceremonies despite everything that's been thrown at them. Harry stood out and the cameras kept finding him and Meghan. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the Queen. Kate and William seemed especially happy after the Queen died and Kate sure helped herself to the Queen's jewelry. When I die I want a quick funeral so people can go about their day. There are three new royal books out now. Valentine Low's book is Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Throne, that seems to have the most tea, Katie Nicholl has The New Royals and Angela Levin has Camilla From Outcast to Queen Consort. Valentine Low seems to know that his sources are racist. In Valentine Low's book Meghan is blamed for the way she was treated by the palace staff. These talking points were pushed by the palace earlier to Robert Lacey for Battle of the Brothers. It goes far beyond victim blaming and proves that Meghan was downplaying the abuse she endured. Low gives a bunch of examples of the royal staff being incompetent and rude to Meghan while her reactions seem perfectly reasonable. At one point Meghan disagreed with the plans a female staff member had made and told her to change them. When the woman said it would be too hard, Meghan responded “Don't worry, If there was literally anyone else I could ask to do this, I would be asking them instead of you.” Meanwhile Charles sounds like an awful boss. He's gone through five secretaries in seven years and he calls his staff at all hours of the day, including on Christmas. His office is described as toxic and the staff are backstabbing. Nicholl's book has the detail that we've heard before that William can't forgive Harry and that William “always expected Harry would be his wingman.” She also writes that Charles is holding Archie and Lilibet's titles over the Sussexes' heads depending on what Harry reveals in his memoir. We got so many stories about how and why Meghan wasn't invited to Balmoral when the Queen took a turn for the worse. It was telling that instead of focusing on the Queen after her death the press was about the Sussexes and everything they were supposedly doing wrong. We heard that Meghan wasn't invited because Kate didn't come for whatever reason. We wish Meghan would come out and say how despicable the royal family is, but they've been showing that with their actions. Meanwhile there are all these stories about whether Harry and his family can make up. Charles is said to have hope that they can but Gayle King reported that there was no peace deal at the funeral. Harry's kids don't have titles and Harry and Meghan have been demoted on the Royal.uk website to the bottom. We don't think Harry will dish the dirt in his first memoir but hopefully he will in his future books. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Charles. We talk about how Queen Margrethe of Denmark removed the royal stylings and titles from her grandchildren without telling them first. The Cambridges are sort-of stepping into their roles as Prince and Princess of Wales. They went to Wales, where William tried out his rudimentary Welsh. It was supposed to be a low key visit. It doesn't seem like they knew they were getting the Wales titles right away. Comments of the Week: Minutes 30:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Light Purple on the story where Khloe Kardashian claimed she was engaged to Tristan Thompson last year. My comment of the week is from Lunchcoma on the post where Brad Pitt said that Emily Ratajkowski is hot. Thanks for listening and subscribing bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:00 We're off next week and will have an episode out on August 27th. We'll be off the week after that for Labor Day. It's been an odd week. Chandra talks about Serena Williams retiring. Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 17:00 We heard that Prince Charles accepted hundreds of thousands from a Russian oligarch with ties to Putin, who pledged £3 million to the Prince's Foundation over several years. We also heard that Scotland Yard is slow-walking their investigation into the cash for honours scheme and that they haven't even interviewed the former head of Charles' foundation, Michael Fawcett. William and Kate's royal foundation spent £12.1 million on Earthshot, which gave out five million in awards. William's corporate sponsorships for Earthshot weren't questioned like Harry and Meghan's sponsors were. We wonder how William is spending the money. Prince Harry is suing the Metropolitan police over his security issue in the UK. Omid Scobie's column details the extreme threats against the Sussexes. There's a lot of anticipation for Prince Harry's memoir, which we've heard is completed and likely coming out this fall. Ahead of that there will be no less than four royal biographies. They're trying to both get ahead of what Harry will write and to capitalize on demand for royal stories. Katie Nicholl, who has sources in the Middleton camp, has The New Royals coming out. Valentine Low's book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, will surely smear the Sussexes. There were also a ton of embiggening stories about the Cambridges as usual. The interesting part is that they seem to be coming from camp Middleton. Kate's Uncle Gary did an interview laying it on incredibly thick with compliments about Kate. Trump: Minutes 17:00 to 24:00 Trump's home in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI over the weekend. It was over the fact that Trump has been keeping classified government documents he stole from the White House there. We know partly because he complained about it on his social network, Truth Social. As we heard in February he's been destroying evidence for the National Archives by flushing documents down the toilet. Trump's businesses are also under investigation in NY by NY Attorney General Letitia James. He was deposed for that case and plead the fifth. Chandra points out that the first date for this deposition was delayed by Ivana's sudden death. There are so many investigations into Trump. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. The Republicans had no idea what the raid was for initially, and now they're blaming it on Democrats. Malcolm Gladwell: Minutes 24:00 to 28:30 Writer Malcolm Gladwell did a podcast interview in which he trashed working from home. He told people it wasn't in their best interest to work from home and that they need to come into the office to feel part of something. Work culture is no longer like that and he sounded like a corporate shill. We both love working from home and find it hard to work in an office. It can be emotionally draining to work in an office environment. We also think we're more productive at home. Chandra mentions the comment that offices are built for managers, not workers. Comments of the Week: Minutes 28:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Digital Unicorn on the post about the missing money in Earthshot. My COTW is from whatWHAT? on the post about Ben Affleck taking Jennifer Lopez to Dunkin Donuts. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:30 We'll have an episode out next week and then we'll be off for two weeks until October 3. It will be the holidays before we know it. We had a tornado warning in my area but have not had the flooding that other places have experienced. Chandra has been watching the US Open, where extreme weather is affecting the matches. Chandra mentions the story about Stefanos Tsitsipas taking long bathroom breaks which threw off his match partner, Andy Murray. Royals: Minutes 7:30 to 19 Finding Freedom has come out in paperback with a new epilogue. One of the revelations was that two of the staffers who allegedly complained that Meghan bullied them rescinded their stories in 2018. This came out back when the palace was pushing their “Meghan was a bully” storyline, but it received little attention at the time. The details of Meghan's alleged bullying have always been so vague. Vanity Fair reported this week that Will and Kate plan to move to Windsor castle in the country and will keep their apartment in Kensington Palace for when they're in London. It really sounds like they've been living separate lives as we've been talking about. We heard in June that they was looking for homes in Bucklebury closer to Kate's parents, we talked about that in episode #95. We've also heard that William wants to take over Prince Andrew's residence, royal lodge. Chandra points out that we've know that Kate and William were living separately for some time. Katie Nicholl's story claimed the Cambridges felt “very overlooked” in London, which is curious and hints at deeper problems within the royal family. In March Piers Morgan either quit or got fired from Good Morning Britain on ITV. He stormed off set after being mildly questioned by weatherman Alex Beresford about his obsession with Duchess Meghan. We talked about this on episode #85. Morgan has accused Meghan of lying when she talks about her own mental health and the racism she experienced. He's been obsessed with her since 2016. Over 57,000 people complained to British media watchdog organization, Ofcom, about Piers. Duchess Meghan also put in a call to the president of ITV to complain specifically about Piers' comments about suicide. We heard this week that Piers was cleared by Ofcom due to free speech reasons. He has been begging ITV to give him his job back, and since he's an editor of the Daily Mail they're of course taking his side. ITV has stated through a source that they're not giving Piers his job back. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals. SCOTUS non-decision on Texas abortion ban: Minutes 19 to 25 The Supreme Court failed to block a law passed in Texas which bans abortion at 6 weeks, before most women realize they're pregnant. The law is bizarre and also allows citizens to sue anyone suspected of helping a woman obtain an abortion, including drivers who bring them to the appointment. A TikToker created a script to submit fake reports to this system in an attempt to make their data unusable. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25 to end My comments of the week are from Sam The Pink and Susie Whit on the post about the FDA warning people not to take Ivermectin. Chandra's comment of the week is from Who Are These People on the post about Mike Richards getting fired from Jeopardy. Thanks for listening bitches!

Intro: Minutes 0 to 5:30 We will be off for the next two weeks as we’re taking a break next week and the week after that is Easter. We’ll be back April 10th! Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 39:30 Last weekend Duchess Kate visited the memorial for murdered Londoner Sarah Everard. Kate wasn’t wearing a mask and brought her own videographer. So many stories and headlines centered her the next day instead of the woman who was killed or the women there to pay their respects, many of whom got arrested. I play a segment from Zoom where Sara and Ameerah talk about this. Chandra says Kate wouldn’t have pulled this stunt if it wasn’t for Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview. She was trying to change the subject from the stories about her making Meghan cry. Minute 9:15 We got more stories about how angry Prince William is. The palace first started centering their PR strategy around William’s rage about two years ago as the Sussexes became more popular. Robert Lacey noted in his book Battle of The Brothers that William responds to Harry with anger so often. Chandra wonders why they keep pushing this story of Prince William as the angry guy who throws tantrums. Minute 12:15 Gayle King revealed that she spoke with Harry last weekend. Harry told her that he had talked to his father and brother, but that it was unproductive and that they did not talk to Meghan. After that we heard that William had trust issues with Harry and was worried his brother would continue to spill to American outlets. The Windsors have been so obvious in trying to smear Harry and Meghan and they’re getting outplayed every time. Minute 14:00 Gayle also said that Sussexes wanted to heal the rift with Harry’s family. Chandra says Gayle was making the point that William and Charles needed to check in on Meghan and recognize the pain they caused her. Gayle said that Meghan has receipts. People think Meghan has written off Harry’s family and he’s still trying to reason with them. It’s like he was in a cult and needs deprogramming. Chandra thinks Meghan was the one who wanted to compromise and Harry was the one putting his foot down with his family. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Sara, Michelle and Alnaaze talk about this. Everyone loved Chandra’s “engorged” title. The commenters have been calling William “Baldimort!” Minute 19:45 The royals have also hired a law firm to supposedly investigate the “Meghan bullied staff” lie that they were pushing. They’re not going to release anything nor are they going to give Meghan access to their “evidence.” Chandra says this shows that Buckingham Palace wants to get this off their plate and don’t want a part in Kensington Palace’s smear of Meghan. Meghan contacted Buckingham Palace and asked for documentation, which was handed over to Prince Charles’ staff, Clarence House. Minute 21:45 The Cambridges released Mother’s Day cards written by their kids to “Granny Diana,” which came across as exploitive. Minute 24:15 Prince Charles was supposedly going to do a “point by point” rebuttal of the claims in Harry and Meghan’s interview but didn’t want to get into a “tit for tat.” It seems like The Queen isn’t really in charge and like Charles is acting as the de facto regent. Chandra wonders what his game plan is. Charles had rehabilitated his and Camilla’s image post-Diana but that all blew up after the latest season of The Crown. Minute 26:00 Kate is still so fixated on this false narrative that Meghan made her cry. Katie Nicholl wrote that Kate found Meghan bringing up that story to Oprah “mortifying,” and that “she has been saddened, disappointed and hurt.” It’s wild how they cannot let this go. Minute 28:00 Michelle Obama was asked for her reaction to Harry and Meghan’s interview. We were really surprised by her somewhat shady responses. Chandra wonders why she didn’t find a more diplomatic way to say “no comment.” Hillary Clinton’s comments about the interview, on the other hand, were excellent. I play a segment from Zoom where Alnaaze and Zakia talk about this. Sometimes the healthiest option is to get away from a toxic family. User Feedback: Minute 39:30 to 41:15 Thanks to Alyssa for leaving us a nice voicemail! Comments of the Week: Minutes 41:15 to end My comments of the week are from Aeren and Merricat on the post about Sharon Osbourne’s interview on ET. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Andrew’s Nemesis on the post about how long Jennifer Lopez wanted to break up with A-Rod.
Intro: Minutes 0 to 5:30 I saw Sound of Metal on Chandra’s recommendation and she saw The Trial of the Chicago 7. We would be glad if Riz Ahmed won best actor at the Oscars, but think Chadwick Boseman will win that unless he’s nominated in the supporting category. Royals: Minutes 5:30 to Minute 42 Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah was so much more revealing than we expected and they went through so much more than we could have imagined. When Meghan was pregnant the royal family said they would not give Archie a title and that they were going to pull their security detail. They also never lifted a finger to tell the press to stop smearing Meghan. At the same time they were controlling her by telling her how much she could go out and they also took away her passport, driver’s license and keys. Every time she traveled Kensington Palace would leak the details. Meghan revealed that in 2019 when she was pregnant with Archie she was suicidal and reached out to senior palace officials to help. They told her she couldn’t get help because she wasn’t a paid employee. Meghan did not reveal whom she spoke to. Chandra got the impression it was a senior royal. Other people thought it was senior staff like The Queen’s secretary. There was an obvious smear campaign against Meghan by the press and the palace. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Courtney and Susan talk about this. Minute 11:00: Everything changed for Harry and Meghan after they went on that South Pacific tour and she was met with crowds and adoration. Meghan’s pregnancy and the success of the tour made the palace work harder to smear her. Harry and Meghan dropped a blind item that someone in his family had concerns about how dark Archie’s skin would be. Harry said that conversation “was right at the beginning… ‘What will the kids look like?’” Chandra thinks that the royal who said that was William, because we heard that they had a falling out over Meghan in 2016. Minute 16:00: We also got clarification on one ongoing years-long story smearing Meghan, which the press was repeating as of last week, that she allegedly made Kate cry at a bridesmaid’s fitting. Kate is the one who made Meghan cry, and it was so bad that Kate sent Meghan flowers to apologize. The story got reversed and used to smear Meghan. Chandra says Kate is happy to play the fragile white woman. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Mikeala, Tanisha, Ameerah, Sara and Jasmine talk about this. Chandra mentions that they’re still trying to twist this to make Kate the victim of Meghan. I read a segment from a Daily Mail article with Richard Kay in which they claim that Meghan is obsessed with Kate. We say that we think Meghan has receipts and sent email about it and that was before we heard that she did do that! Minute 24:15: I mention the line from the article that people are pointing out is racist. “[Kate] is resilient; Middleton family blood has seen to that.” I remember that terribly racist article claiming “the Windsors will thicken their watery, thin blue blood and Spencer pale skin and ginger hair with some rich and exotic DNA.” Chandra says this type of blood line thinking is common in India due to the caste system. Minute 26:00: Camila Tominey wrote the original story about Meghan making Kate cry. In a recent interview, she defended her sources. Minute 27:30: We finally got a statement from the royal family on Tuesday afternoon our time, which was the evening in England. During the day we heard that The Queen had “refused to sign off” on a statement Monday night to de-escalate tension with The Sussexes. The statement included the line “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.” Last week they made such a big deal about investigating Meghan’s alleged bullying, but they say they’re going to privately address systemic racism. Minute 30:00: Katie Nicholl had a piece in Vanity Fair with Charles’ reaction to the interview and it’s so bad! I mention that Chandra predicted Piers Morgan’s response to Meghan, which was to criticize her for breathing basically. He left his job at ITV, he likely got fired, after over 41,000 people complained about him dismissing mental health on his show and Meghan was one of them. This was after he was called out by multiple guests for his years of hating on Meghan and after he walked off set when he was mildly questioned about it by weatherperson Alex Beresford. Minute 34:45: Meghan’s friend, Janina Gavankar, confirmed that Meghan has the receipts, which Meghan heavily implied in the interview as well. I play a segment from Zoom where Tanisha, Ameerah, Mickeala and Sara talk about the receipts. Minute 38:45: Prince Charles visited a vaccine site at a predominantly Black church in London. The optics of Black people bowing to Prince Charles were so bad. On Thursday morning, Kate and William visited a school. Unlike Charles in his photo op, William deigned to answer a question from a journalist afterwards. He said “we’re very much not a racist family.” Comments of the week: Minute 42:00 My comments of the week is from Alexandria on the post about the Queen not signing the statement supporting the Sussexes. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Rapunzel on the post about Meghan filing a complaint against Piers Morgan. Thanks for listening bitches!
The Duchess of Sussex, Megan Markle, has revealed that she suffered a miscarriage in July. In an op-ed for the New York Times, the Duchess described how painful the experience was, and asked Americans to take care of one another over the Thanksgiving holiday. Katie Nicholl is Vanity Fair's royal editor.
In this very first episode of Podcast Royal, Rachel shares her master list of royal books, movies, shows, and podcasts. Jessica takes Rachel's pop quiz on relationships in the British Royal Family, and we recap the biggest Royal news stories of the week. Intro: Minutes 0 to 6:15 We took last week off as I had company. I’ve been watching a show called Alone where survivalists compete to see who can last the longest in the wilderness. Chandra has been watching the French Open. Royals: Minutes 6:15 to 24:45 Meghan and Harry have done some general get-out-the-vote videos which have been completely mischaracterized by the British press and met with outrage. Harry did a video for Time 100 in which he urged people to vote and reject hate and misinformation. This was of course construed as Harry telling people to vote for Biden, which is logical given that the Republicans are the party of racism, lies and hate, but he didn’t actually say that. Trump shaded Meghan when a Daily Mail reporter told him Harry and Meghan “essentially encouraged people to vote for Joe Biden.” This says so much about American politics when telling people to reject hate is the same as telling them to vote for Biden. Minute 9:15 Meghan was asked in a Fortune Magazine summit what it was like to be targeted and attacked. Her response was amazing as usual. She said that what she says is not controversial at all, it’s the interpretation of it. Minute 11:15 Harry and Meghan also did an interview with The Evening Standard. Harry spoke about how he came to an understanding of structural racism and white supremacy, which he’s mentioned before. It was like he was talking about the royal family and colonialism without directly saying it. Minute 12:30 We got all these stories saying the Sussexes are doing a reality show, which is not true. The tabloids heard that they were doing a docuseries and reported that it was a reality show. This is ridiculous considering that Prince William had cameras following him for two years for an environmental documentary. I play a segment from Zoom where Zakia, Alnaaze and Sara talk about the double standard for William’s docuseries vs. Harry and Meghan’s docuseries. Minute 16:00 The Cambridges and their kids met with Sir David Attenborough to get a screening of his new Netflix film. Attenborough gave Prince George an ancient shark tooth he found in Malta in the 60s. Malta’s cultural minister said they would like it back. Malta then said that the laws didn’t apply to that fossil and they weren’t pursuing it. Chandra thinks someone in the British government made some calls to Malta. Minute 19:45 Duchess Kate got named co-president of The Scouts. She met with kids while wearing gifted jewelry, which is against royal protocol. Both of us question why she continues to not wear a mask while meeting with people. I play a segment from Zoom where Jasmine and Sara talk about Kate not wearing a mask. Minute 23:15 We heard that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first baby. Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl explained that Jack declined a title, meaning their children won’t have titles either. Trump and Melania have coronavirus: Minutes 24:45 to 33:00 We recorded this section on Friday afternoon, after we had heard that Trump and Melania had tested positive and before it was known that Trump was hospitalized. We remember all the things Trump has said to downplay the virus and spread misinformation. We don’t think it’s a conspiracy at all or that Trump is lying, particularly because so many people around him are testing positive. Chandra points out that Trump would never give up his Nazi rallies. We wonder what took so long for Trump to get coronavirus. It looks like Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination announcement at the White House is the superspreader event. We first heard about Hope Hicks testing positive. Several people from that nomination event, including Senator Mike Lee, have tested positive. Amy Coney Barrett had covid over the summer. All the Democrats are testing negative because of course they take more precautions. The Rock: Minutes 33:00 to 37:00 The Rock endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and did a video conference with them. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Zakia and Ameerah talk about The Rock’s endorsement. There were a lot of maga comments on The Rock’s Instagram. Chandra says a lot of them were bots. Comments of the Week: Minutes 37:00 to 42 My comment of the week is from C-Shell on the post about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Chandra’s comment of the week is from lucy2 on the post with the beautiful photos of Alexander Skarsgard. Thanks for listening bitches! Call us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.
Intro: Minutes 0 to 2:30 We’ll be back next week but are taking the last week of September off and won’t have a podcast on September 27th. Royals: Minutes 2:30 to 15:45 The Sussexes got a development deal with Netflix, thought to be worth around $100 million although that’s just speculation. Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings gushed about them and said that he’s so excited for that deal. You can tell that they’re modeling themselves after the Obamas Netflix deal. Minute 4:15: Harry and Meghan paid off the $3.1 million spent for the renovations of Frogmore cottage. How run down was the cottage if it cost over $3 million to renovate it? Despite the fact that they paid it off, royal commentator Richard Kay wrote a snide article in the DM bringing up some old resentment about Harry and Meghan keeping details about Archie’s birth and christening private. He also made it sound bad somehow that Harry and Meghan paid off the renovations and like there’s mystery around it. There’s so much undue criticism of Harry and Meghan. Chandra wrote an article titled The Mail is sure that the Sussexes’ Netflix deal is horrible, but they can’t figure out why, which summed it up so well. Minute 8:00: Royal biographer Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince in 2018, told The Daily Mail: “This is the biggest exploitation of the Royal Family that has been in our lifetime. I think this was plotted right from the beginning, before the wedding even. Meghan has used the Royal Family…” Of course this wasn’t Meghan’s plan. Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair wrote an article about Frogmore Cottage describing dust covers over the furniture and expensive art, as if that’s a bad thing. We wonder if they’re just going to leave it like that, which would be their prerogative. The Queen could technically take Frogmore Cottage away from them as it’s a crown property. Minute 10:30: Now there are calls from a Tory MP named Henry Smith (along with Piers Morgan of course) to strip the Sussexes of their titles. This can’t be something anyone is considering seriously. Minute 11:30: In May, Tatler ran a shady cover story about Duchess Kate titled Catherine The Great, which we’ve talked about quite a bit on the podcast. Newsweek recently found that the palace never sued Tatler or issued a formal complaint about it but that there was a paragraph removed from the article online. That was about Rose Hanbury's rumored affair with William, and the Turnip Toffs. Either Prince William didn’t want the public reminded of his affair or Tatler didn’t want to reveal their source. Brad Pitt: Minutes 15:45 to 21:30 Brad Pitt, 56, is dating a 27 year-old German model named Nicole (Poturalski) Mary whom he rolled out in the celebrity press like he was super proud to be with a millennial wannabe Instagram influencer. We have heard that she’s in an open marriage with a 68 year-old restaurateur with whom she has a child. Pitt’s people clearly didn’t do their research on her. Brad’s side is trying to paint Angelina as jealous, all while the judge in their divorce case is being accused of having ties to Brad’s lawyers. Brad clearly thought this girlfriend rollout would make him look like a stud. Of course they’re now saying it’s casual and the “Brad doesn’t want a girlfriend that he’s with every day.” I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Zakia talk about Brad’s bad PR game. Tiddles was Real: Minutes 21:30 to 25 I play a segment from Zoom where Rhiannon said that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston didn’t have a real relationship. Ameerah and I disagree. Courtney says he’s a sweet earnest man and remembers when he quoted Shakespeare to ducks. (That interview was in 2013, Tom and Taylor got together in 2016.) Amber mentions that the song “Getaway Car” is about how Taylor used Tom to get out of her relationship with Calvin Harris. Chandra and I agree that Tiddles was real and that Tom cared about Taylor. We think she used him though. She mentions that Tom is now dating his former costar, Zawe Ashton and that they’re living together in Atlanta. User Feedback: Minute 25:00 to 25:30 Thanks Darla and wildwaffles for your nice comments about our signoff. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:30 to 30 Chandra’s comments of the week are from lascivious chicken and ce on the post about Trump spending $800 million already. My comment of the week is from eezer on the post about Kerri Walsh Jennings being an anti-masker. Thanks for listening bitches! Text us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.
Intro: Minutes 0 to 7:30 I’ve been walking and I really like it. Chandra has always liked walking. She’s also been watching tennis, which is back finally. We will be taking next week off for Labor Day and won’t be putting out a podcast on September 6th. We will be back on September 13th but may take another week off this month, most likely on September 27th. Royals: Minutes 7:30 to 17:00 Meghan has been doing general get out the vote appearances. She is working hard to be non-controversial and to lend her voice to generally good causes. It’s not particularly political and she didn’t endorse Biden. The British royal commentators went crazy over that. Dan Wootten called it “completely inappropriate and a massive diplomatic embarrassment” and Piers Morgan said she should be stripped of her titles – just for telling people to vote! Meghan also did a video with Gloria Steinem encouraging people to vote. She said she was excited to see Kamala Harris running and revealed that Harry introduced himself to Gloria Steinem by saying he was a feminist. Omid Scobie, the author of Finding Freedom, said on his Heirpod podcast that Kate and Meghan were never close and that Kate disappointed Meghan by not reaching out to her. Kate saw Meghan as competition and we knew that back when it happened. Of course there are more stories embiggening Kate and pointing out how keen she is. Chandra pointed out that we hear that Kate is keen just about twice a year every year. Kate’s biographer Katie Nicholl also wrote a shady article in VF heavily insinuating that Meghan is doing these get out the vote awareness videos because she can’t get paid speeches. Republican National Convention: Minutes 17:00 to 27:00 I can’t stand listening to the speeches at the RNC and turn off the sound when I need to get screenshots from the videos. Chandra makes fun of Don Jr. and Jared Kushner’s dippy voices. Kimberly Guilfoyle and Don Jr. were coked out. Tiffany Trump got Ivanka-style veneers and is copying Ivanka’s lispy voice. Her makeup was so overdone and she looked like a raccoon with sparkly eyeshadow. There was a joke tweet that Brock Turner was going to speak at the RNC, but because of all the other terrible speakers people believed it at first. There was the couple from Missouri who brandished guns at BLM protestors and the obnoxious 17-year-old kid from Kentucky who mocked a Native American Man. I especially loved when that healthcare advocate for the Republicans said that Democrats were for “a right to marijuana, opioids, and the right to die with dignity.” Well yes we are. We remember when we thought Bush was the worst. I play a segment from Zoom with Ameerah, Angelina and Rhiannon talking about the RNC. Rhiannon was particularly bothered by Nick Sandman, the 17 year-old from Kentucky. Chandra agrees with Rhiannon that the Republicans’ entire message is racism, and that was particularly obvious in the speech from the gun-toting couple from Missouri, the McCloskeys. We also talk about the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Cops let 17-year-old terrorist Kyle Rittenhouse walk away after he murdered people at a protest. The Kenosha police chief’s speech was despicable and sided with Rittenhouse. The conservative commentators are disturbing and predictable in their defense of Rittenhouse, especially Tucker Carlson. Jerry Falwell Jr.: Minutes 27:00 to 31:00 Former Liberty University President, Jerry Falwell Jr., is in a scandal with his wife, Becki, after a now 29-year-old man and former pool attendant, Giancarlo Granda, said that he had a relationship with the Falwells from 2012 to 2019. Giancarlo, who was in business with the Falwells and often traveled with them, would have sex with Becki while Jerry watched. Jerry tried to blame it on Becki, who has said that it’s not true that Jerry watched. I play a segment from Zoom where Rhiannon, Zakia, Tanisha, Karen and Courtney talk about this. Jerry is blaming this on the fact that it’s an election year and he endorsed Trump. User Feedback: Minutes 31:00 to 32:30 Thanks Sandra for the nice text message. Dog Obsessed Girl let us know that our intro music is in a Bravaa kitchen appliance commercial. I paid $75 for the rights to that song, so I guess I can’t expect it to be ours alone. Comments of the Week: Minutes 32:30 to 36:45 My comment of the week is from Pamspam on the post about Melania ruining the White House Rose Garden. Thanks for listening bitches! Call us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.
Intro: Minutes 0 to 4:30 We had a minor earthquake last week that I thought was a groundhog who comes on my porch. We remember the big 2011 earthquake that hit our area of Virginia. I got a covid test because I’ve been feeling run down with a sore throat. It was negative thankfully. Finding Freedom: Minutes 4:30 to 27:45 Finding Freedom really delivers and explains the Sussexes’ point of view on so many tabloid stories we’ve covered. It’s very matter-of-fact and sets the record straight. It’s interesting what goes unsaid. Thee narrative in the British press around Harry and Meghan’s relationship has been that Meghan is driving it and controlling Harry. Finding Freedom makes it clear that he pursued her and would do anything for her. Chandra says Meghan is the compromiser and Harry is the one who cuts ties and decided to leave the royal family. Minute 9:00: The tiara story was a huge segment in the book. Angela Kelly decided to ignore Meghan’s calls asking for access to the tiara. We also learned that Meghan picked out her tiara from a selection The Queen provided her. The tabloid stories in the fall of 2018 claimed that Meghan demanded a tiara, which never happened. Minute 10:45: Meghan and Harry’s romance first got leaked to the press from Prince Andrew’s staff. Minute 12:00: We heard that Meghan announced her pregnancy at Eugenie’s wedding. We think Eugenie had every right to be mad and Meghan had every right to tell people because she was excited. Minute 13:30: We heard that Meghan was “well prepared and respectful” for her first outing with The Queen. I play a segment from Zoom where Rhiannon talks about the work Meghan did to prepare for being in the royal family and how much stress it must have been for her. Minute 17:00: Meghan was set to attend Pippa Middleton’s wedding, but The Sun ran a cover story pitting Meghan against Pippa. Meghan decided at the last minute to skip the church part of the wedding. Plus the Middletons were worried that Meghan would overshadow Pippa on her wedding day. Minute 18:30: Katie Nicholl, Kate’s biographer, ran a piece in Vanity Fair with the Cambridge’s take. Kate and William are said to “come under fire more than other senior royals.” We note that most of that is innuendo though. The book isn’t as bad as we thought it would be and doesn’t go after the royals like we assumed it would. I play a segment from Zoom where Courtney, Sara and Ameerah talk about how the book is nicer than they thought it would be. Chandra points out that the Sussexes want to stay on The Queen and Prince Charles’ good sides. Chandra says Omid Scobie might be following Andrew Morton’s model of writing royal biographies. She thinks a follow up book will probably come out next year. Minute 24:30: We heard that Harry and Meghan purchased an estate in Montecito. Chandra hasn’t looked at the photos and feels like it’s an invasion of their privacy. I think it’s a great place for them to be secure. Chandra worries about their neighbors being annoyed if paparazzi come to that small town. We think Meghan will fit in well there. Minute 27:45: This week we heard that Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris as his running mate. It says great things about Biden that he picked someone who challenged him in the primaries. We talk about the idiotic and racist argument that Kamala isn’t an American citizen because her parents are immigrants. I play a segment from Zoom where Angelina, Rhiannon and Ameerah say how excited they are for Kamala. Chandra was hoping to vote for Kamala in the primaries but she dropped out. The mainstream news ignored Kamala’s candidacy. User Feedback: Minutes 32:00 to 32:30 Thanks wildwaffles and Silvercharm for your nice comments! Comments of the Week: Minutes 32:30 to 37 Chandra’s comment of the week is from Dazed and Confused on the post about Donald Trump saying the Spanish Flu ended WWII. My comment of the week is from Chelly on the post about Brian Austin Green shading Megan Fox for dating Machine Gun Kelly. Thanks for listening bitches! Call us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.
Intro: Minutes 0 to 3:45 We’re both having a tough time and have been crying, but it feels like things are changing. This week we’re giving away two $25 Amazon gift certificates to the first two people who send us positive reviews they’ve given to the podcast. You can email them to info-at-celebitchy.com and they don’t have to be new this week. Thanks! Royals: Minutes 3:45 to to 18:30 Chandra had pre-written a story responding to the Daily Mail’s criticism of Meghan’s lack of response to Black Lives Matter movement following George Floyd’s murder. She had to edit it because Meghan came out with a video commencement speech for her alma mater, Immaculate Heart High School in LA, just the next day. The speech was moving, heartfelt and passionate. I play a clip from our Zoom meeting on Wednesday, before Meghan’s speech came out, where we talked about the difference between Kate and Meghan’s speaking skills and ambitions. Both Meghan and Obama’s speeches were aimed at telling Black kids that their lives matter. Minute 10:00 The Tatler Catherine The Great story is the gossip gift that keeps on giving. More denials came out since our last podcast. Katie Nicholl’s denial in Vanity Fair is precious because Kate emphasizes her Early Years work and how hard she’s working at it while denying that she resents it! The Times of London found that Will and Kate aren’t working any harder than usual, but it’s suspicious to us that Meghan’s numbers are also so low. Kate and William threatened legal action against Tatler, but Tatler doesn’t think their legal claims have merit and they’re standing by their writer, Anna Pasternak. The Cambridges want Tatler to take the story down because they don’t know how the Internet works. Tatler took down the links to this story from the main page and royals page, but it’s still available. They’re now trying to blame Meghan for the article because she has some tenuous relationship with the author, “[Author Anna] Pasternak is friends with ex-Tatler journalist Vanessa Mulroney, the sister-in-law of Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney.” The current editor is Kate’s friend from college so that’s definitely a reach. I say this is the first piece of negative press Kate has gotten and Chandra remembers all the bad press around Will and Kate’s disastrous India trip, which was in 2016 about six months before Meghan came around. If Kate and William hadn’t responded multiple times to all the points in this article this would have been a three day news story. Instead we’ve been talking about it for over a week. Lea Michele: Minutes 18:30 to 25:30 We remember how Chandra has disliked Lea for years. I asked her to change a story back in 2011 (I looked it up because I never delete email) where she said Lea had a face she’d like to smack. She wasn’t wrong! Lea of course was outed as a mean girl and probable racist for her treatment of costars. Chandra questions whether Lea is a racist or just a terrible person overall and I say she’s both. Lea’s “apology” was terrible and used the word “perceived” multiple time, as if it was other people’s interpretation of her behavior. In our Zoom meeting Karen made the point that Ryan Murphy and the other Glee producers are complicit for allowing Lea’s behavior to continue for years. Ashley pointed out that Ryan has also been hiring Emma Roberts, who for a lot of projects. Chandra gets a creepy feeling about Ryan Murphy and neither of us like his shows beyond a few episodes. Thomas Middleditch and Ben Affleck: Minutes 25:30 to 30:00 Thomas Middleditch’s wife filed for divorce. We play a segment from Podcast #30 where we talked about Thomas’s terrible interview with Playboy where he claimed that he and his wife were swingers, but admitted that it was one-sided on his part and that he didn’t tell his wife until after they got married. Chandra says Thomas has a nerdy hot appeal but I don’t agree. We both think he’s gross after his Playboy interview. I play a clip from Zoom where Rhiannon defends her love of Ben Affleck and a new member, Colleen, agrees. Chandra and I think that Ben was hot in 1999 but not anymore. She calls him “steroidy.” Sorry Rhiannon and Colleen! User Feedback and Hannibal: Minutes 30:00 to 32:30 WilliamJoelene said they listened to all our podcasts and we are super flattered! Thank you! Chandra finished all three seasons of Hannibal and she hated it so much. She’s very angry about the ending and says it was misogynistic too. Thanks for the nice voicemail from an unknown listener. She did not leave her name. Comments of the Week: Minutes 32:30 to 35:20 My comment of the week is from Martina on the post about Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas going to a Black Lives Matter protest in Venice, CA. Chandra’s comments of the week are from Crowhood on the post about the pot factory busted near the Middletons’ estate and from agnes on the post about Meghan McCain complaining about her New York neighborhood while she’s in Virginia. Thanks for listening bitches! Text us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.
Last week we talked about white fragility and white feminism, this week we're seeing it in action all over again. Intro: Minutes 0 to 8:30 I was having a hard week and everything feels monotonous to me, but Chandra has gotten into the rhythm of being in lockdown. I’ve been watching 911: Lone Star, which I like because something ridiculous and stupid happens every few minutes. Chandra is still doing a Bones marathon. She’s also watching Billions, which is bonkers, and just saw the season finale of Prodigal Son. She was hate watching it but says it paid off. Chandra’s favorite tennis player, Juan Martin Del Potro, broke up with his girlfriend. Mary-Kate Olsen divorce: Minutes 8:30 to 13:45 Mary-Kate Olsen, 33, married Olivier Sarkozy, 50, in November 2015. We just heard that she’s trying to divorce him using an emergency court order because of New York City’s moratorium on divorces during the pandemic. Apparently Oliver didn’t renew the lease on the apartment he shared with her and is trying to kick her out by default in mid-May. I get confused at this part because I didn’t realize it was already mid-May. Mary-Kate does have a great prenup protecting her businesses, but she’s so private and must be upset that this news is out there. Robert Pattinson: Minutes 13:45 to 20:00 Robert Pattinson did an interview for GQ which was absolutely bonkers. He admitted he’s not exercising for Batman and said people in the 70s didn’t do it so why should he. Chandra focused her story on the excerpt about Robert not working out, but it got crazier when he tried to microwave pasta in front of the GQ journalist. He blew up the microwave by trying to cook aluminum foil in it and made this bizarre concoction of cornflakes, pasta, sliced cheese and sugar. Chrissy Teigen and Alison Roman: Minutes 20:00 to 24:30 Alison Roman is a food blogger and influencer, she’s a columnist for the New York Times cooking section and used to work for Bon Appetit. Roxana at Pajiba has a good article about how Alison takes other culture’s cuisine, like curry, and tries to pass it off on her own by rebranding it, as “The Stew” or “The Cookies” or whatever. Alison did an interview with New Consumer where she called out Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo for their merchandising and said she was too cool for that, basically. A lot of people pointed out that she was calling out two women of color. Chrissy defended herself and said she worked hard on her business and it wasn’t profitable yet. People dug up Chrissy Teigen’s problematic old tweets and Chrissy quit Twitter for a day, but came back to accept Allison’s apology, which did acknowledge her privilege. Royals: Minutes 24:30 to 30:00 The Financial Times reported Prince Andrew embezzled £350,000 from his charity to pay off his former press secretary. There was another story that Epstein used Prince Andrew to lure girls and young women. There were plenty of filler stories about Harry and Meghan, including some that Harry misses the military and is having a hard time adjusting to LA. Every time we see him he looks great though, and like he’s doing well in LA with Meghan and Archie. The British reporters keep acting like jilted lovers and trying to make Harry sound pathetic. There was a fake-sounding story from Katie Nicholl, a Cambridge-friendly journalist, in Entertainment Tonight saying that Harry and William had reconnected during the lockdown. Chandra thinks William leaked the story that Harry and Meghan were in LA because that happened right after we heard that Prince Charles had coronavirus. It’s likely that the brothers talked around that time. Baby Archie turned one and they celebrated with a strawberries and cream smash cake Meghan made for his birthday. People also reported that Archie’s best friends were the dogs, which was cute. User Feedback: Minutes 30:00 to 34:00 Thanks to Sandy and Cindy for your kind messages about our podcast! Comments of the Week: Minutes 34:00 to 39 My comment of the week is from Lightpurple on the story about Miley Cyrus wearing only leather and latex. Chandra’s comments of the week are from ChloeCat on the story about Lena Dunham bragging about her relationship with Brad Pitt, and by tempest prognosticator on the post about James Middleton shaving off his beard. Thanks for listening bitches! Call us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.

Princess Diana: A Life After Death is different from many of the recent programs commemorating the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. It is not just an anniversary program. It is a powerful summary of Princess Diana's historical, political and social legacy. Princess Diana's death set the British nation thinking deeply about its monarchy and its royal family. In the unstable summer of 1997 a strange atmosphere existed throughout Britain. The country's young Prime Minister Tony Blair had just won an election with a big majority and the tabloid press were pursuing Princess Diana after her separation from Prince Charles. Events were already leading to a full-scale crisis for the British monarchy. The terrible sudden and completely unexpected death of Diana changed Britain. This powerful and original new program looks at the history of Princess Diana's life after her death. The question of the condition of Britain is portrayed in the program - on the one hand through the life of her sons and family after her death and on the other through the collective memory we have through the images and controversies of Diana's life. The British monarchy is now trusted more than ever before. It is politicians who have lost trust. The selfless aspects of Princess Diana's wide interests continue to act as a form of both emotional ballast and inspiration to the British nation and the world at large. The distinguished contributors include Sir Anthony Seldon, Alastair Campbell, Jeffrey Archer, Emily Nash, Katie Nicholl, Catherine Mayer, Richard Kay and Sarah, Viscountess Bangor. Backed by a full orchestral soundtrack, Princess Diana: A Life After Death takes a lasting approach to describing the life of one of the most important women who has ever lived. The programme is intended to have a long life. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thehistoryexpress/support
