Reading is delivered by Jane Valeri Untung (from the Church of Santo Lukas) and meditation is delivered by Ryan Koordi (from the Church of Santo Yohanes Bosco) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 3: 1-10; Rs psalm 105: 1-2.3-4.6-7.8-9; Luke 24: 13-35. EASTER GIFTS FROM JESUS Our meditation today has the theme: Easter Gifts From Jesus. The ultimate and special gift for us on Easter Sunday should be the risen Christ who conquered death to restore a new life. This is our greatest gift and we are taught to believe in its truth. We embrace and build up our faith in God based on the truth that Jesus Christ the Son of God had truly risen from the dead. This greatest gift generates many other gifts that we can call them the Easter gifts. These gifts refer to the number of apparitions of the risen Jesus. In every event of apparition, Jesus gave meaning to the mystery of His resurrection. Today, the gift offered to us is about His coming and joining the two disciples on their way to Emmaus. The apparition portrays Jesus is like a stranger who reprimands us by saying: How little your understanding! How slow your ability to believe! Overcoming our limitations in recognizing and acknowledging Him, the risen Jesus would open our senses, minds and hearts so that we can welcome Him with proper dispotition as believers. Because of these limitations, He provides a way for us to get to know Him through two main instruments, namely the interpretation of the scriptures and the breaking of the Eucharistic bread (Luke 24, 35). Jesus' best Easter gifts for us are His words that are explained correctly and properly, and the Eucharist which is a memory of the first Easter that He himself instituted. The physical apparition experienced by the two disciples of Emmaus, as well as a series of other physical appartions happened to the rest of the disciples, are equally meaningful and revealing to the various experiences of Jesus showing Himself spiritually to each one of us. The risen Christ asks for attention and obedience from those who see and meet Him. If we don't follow the moment when He appears and talks to us, we will lose the light of truth that He wants to offer us. Our attention and obedience should be directed to Him. Whereever and whenever we are to meet Him, we need to dispose ourselves sincerely and worthily. Whenever and whereever His word is proclaimed, our most necessary disposition is to open ourselves, to listen, and to understand. Usually if these attitudes are not properly and correctly implemented, God's presence will be out of our awareness and even goes unnoticed, and the meaning of His words will disappear like the blowing wind. Likewise, when the Eucharist is celebrated and well participated, our proper disposition is to open ourselves, having sincere and pure hearts, and make oneself a pleasing home that God will be pleased to stay and be with us at all times. Usually if these attitudes are not well practiced, then the Eucharist will only be an activity that has no influence in one's life. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, bless us and enable us to recognize You in every moment Your Word preached and the Eucharist celebrated. Glory to the Father ... In the name of the Father and the Son ... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Meditation: Refuge of Living Presence (2021-01-30) - Our thoughts keep us removed from this living world. This guided practice invites us to open and relax with the moment to moment experience of our senses. It includes a poem by Ingrid Goff-Maidoff, “Whereever you are, Find a Trail.”
In honor of Independence Day we will speak this week of FREEDOM, but all patriotism stops there. We are speaking of freedom because it is essential for love and love is essential for the power to act authentically. Doing what you have always done does not require authenticity, nor does it require much power (which is why it feels easy and comfortable). However your soul’s purpose lies out there, beyond comfort and easy, past authenticity and on into the realm of power and passion. Are you free to express your power? Do you claim the freedom to express your true self mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, professionally, and intimately? Whereever you are not fully, passionately and powerfully your true self, you are not free. The stories we carry of our past wounding, unmet childhood needs, and chronic fears are our own imprisonment. This week we discuss freedom and how you can cultivate inner authority, claim your freedom to love and live your true self.

You are Here in No-Man’s Land One of the greatest challenge for anyone immersed in their aging process is being with what is. What is may not feel normal - as in the way life used to feel; as in there doesn’t seem to be any particular trajectory of your life, in this moment. There aren’t any should’s or shouldn’t - rules which provide guilt and shame as boundary markers for your life in this moment. In fact, there appears to be nowhere to go and nothing to do. In a coaching session, Melanie declares, “I’m bored! I’ve given up and let go of so much of the trauma-drama of my past, and this is what I get? Boredom? What the F*^#!” Melanie rants a bit more that all of her efforts to extract herself from the life of abuse and neglect seem to have brought her to this place where nothing makes sense anymore. “I don’t know who I am, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Sometimes I feel more insane than ever before. Wasn’t I promised healing, serenity and wisdom if I took this spiritual path? I’m pissed!" You are Here on the Path in No-Man’s Land As a practitioner, it isn’t my job to make this process easy, unless pointing to the landmarks and road signs eases the process of being human, and specifically in regard to aging. Whereever you are - that’s where you are. And, my job is to assist you in seeing and experiencing that this is the very place you are meant to be - in this moment. Whatever it is you are being with is what’s yours to be with. Melanie, who has been immersed in the patternings of trauma and drama, is now transitioning into someplace that is no longer riddled with triggers for flight, fright and freezing. This new environment feels weird, empty, and pointless - boring. It makes perfect sense that this is how it feels to her, since all she knew before this is scared, reactive, and highly triggered. So much of that is gone, which is a very good thing. Now, here she is, but she doesn’t know where she is, so it’s highly disconcerting. It feels like crazy-making; not at all what she expected. Any addict will tell you that once they got sober from their drug of choice, their life felt empty and pointless. They yearned for the highs and lows of the life they had while using. I too know this place well. It’s like being in a waiting room with no magazines, no music, no entertainment gadgets - nothing. Just you being you with no distractions, other than of your own making. Where’s That Promised Land? Moses did indeed lead the people to the promised land; however, they wandered in the desert for 40 years. The promised land is a place that we imagine will give us everything we desire. Yet leaving the known world requires that we travel through unknown territory - no-man’s land. Neither here nor there. What we discover about being here, if we are willing to see it, is that it is its own fulfillment of what has been promised to us. We’ve arrived! In the Bible, it says that God made the Israelites walk in the dessert for 40 years as punishment. But, maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t a punishment. Maybe they could not receive the gifts of the promised land until they’d released and surrendered their attachments to their “stuff.” Whether Catholic, Jewish, Muslim - whatever or whoever you are - you, me, we all have stuff, and that stuff mainly includes entitlement and reward for the hard work and suffering one has gone through. “Haven’t I suffered enough?” Says Ira, 20 years into the dessert. God says in response to Ira’s wailing, “Yes, of course you’ve suffered enough. You didn’t have to suffer at all. Just stop thinking the promised land is somewhere other than where you are, Ira. You’ve already arrived! Enjoy!!” If, like Ira, and Melanie, we perceive where we are as not where we are supposed to be, then we will always experience lack, scarcity, and fear of not doing this right: “I must be wrong; I’m helpless, powerless, and pathetic!” Thus, the suffering in the desert for 40 years. Again, I know this place so well! In A Course in Miracles, it says, “Lack implies that you would be better off in a state somehow different from the one you are in.” It takes courage and strength to see that in fact there is no lack in any one moment. There may be new experiences that are uncomfortable and disorienting, but that doesn’t make them wrong or bad - just different. Being with the differentness and seeing the beauty, awe and wonder that is present, because you’ve left behind your enslavement to trauma-drama, addictions, and whatever else kept you from knowing yourself as brilliant, radiant and light, well, it lets you see the paradise that is all about you always and everywhere. Yes, it is a challenge to be liberated from old patterns, habits, and addictions. It is hard to be in something different without judging it or you as lacking. Yes, it musters up wisdom and discernment to know the difference. And yes, it’s important to get support and assistance from someone or a group that have gone through the desert, and found themselves before they reached that ‘promised land.’ This process of aging brings us ever closer to ourselves - if we are willing to be quiet long enough to arrive. To thine own self be true, is the promised land! - - - - For more blogs, books and videos, or if you are interesting in coaching or training with Dr. Rosie, check out her website: www.theparadigmshifts.com
I'm sure by now we've all heard of the scarcity vs. abundance thinking. and, to be quite frank, it's a legit thing. For the last 7 years I’ve been running my business The Suitcase Entrepreneur from all over the world, while living out of the suitcase and going on adventures. This year, in 2017, I’ve decided to fire myself. Yup, that’s right. I am quitting. I am taking a business sabbatical from my own business and instead I am taking YOU on a Quest for Freedom. Your freedom. I'm so freakin excited to do this. To understand why the heck I am, here's a bit of backstory into me. This is actually taken from my TEDx talk last year called ‘The Surprising Truth About Freedom’ (feel free to just watch from 12:12-15:44). Why tune into this podcast? After watching, I hope you can understand why I’ve named this podcast Natalie Sisson’s Quest for Freedom, because as I mentioned, I’m on a hunt to understand what freedom really is. This podcast is part audio journal, part narrative and part ‘choose your own adventure’. It will be divided into Seasons (just like on TV) and each season will be a different quest around freedom. I’m starting with Personal freedom, and I’ll break that down more in Episode 2. What is the definition of Freedom? First off let’s attempt to better understand freedom (or maybe expose why this is no ordinary quest I’m going on). Over the years I’ve asked a LOT of people what their definition of personal freedom is and I am starting to see a pattern in their answers. A couple of Friday's ago I was having dinner with friends and new acquaintances, listening to music and discussing all sorts of topics. So I decided to whip out my new Zoom H6 recorder and ask them a question for my new podcast. They all agreed, so without any background I just launched into my question which I posed to them which was: "What's your definition of freedom?" Here’s what they had to say: “Deciding when you want to wake up in the morning, where you want to be and deciding what you want to do for the day.” “Freedom for me is abundance but it’s conditional on the freedom of others. I am not free if other people aren’t free.” “There are a lot of different types of freedom, but the most important freedom is the freedom from our own minds, and that if freedom is dependent on external factors then it’s not truly free.” “I believe that the only thing that we are actually in control of is how we react in the moment and having an internal sense of freedom to be able to react as we choose is the ultimate freedom.” “Choice. You just get to choose freely whether it’d be a monetary thing or just your thoughts or your reactions.” “Free is something that doesn’t cost anything” Do any of those resonate with you? I go on to say in my podcast: "There’s also a price to pay for too much freedom. I feel like I experienced that a few weeks ago when I was trying to make a big decision in my life, and I realized I was so free in choosing either one, that I almost felt paralyzed for the first time. There was too much freedom. You have to have some boundaries and some limits within which to feel free." So as you can see from this discussion…..I’m really no closer to uncovering a definition for freedom. And perhaps it’s un-defineable. Perhaps this whole quest is going to impossible, but I can’t wait either way because this is a year like no other. I’m firing myself and taking a business sabbatical to become a student of life, and go on a quest to find freedom. What is a Quest? Now that we've established the challenge in defining freedom, I thought understanding what a quest is would be a logical next move. So back to my friends for their ideas around this: “It’s like bigger than yourself. There will be obstacles, there will be doubt, there will be naysayers, there will be almost insurmountable odds but your values and what’s inside of you pull you forward beyond what you think is possible and achieving your quest will be one of the greatest memories for a parts of your life.” “A quest is fundamentally a search for meaning. It’s about trying to find and discover meaning.” “Is quest the root of question?” And yes is the answer to that question. I looked it up on the interwebs to find it is from late Middle English: from Old French queste (noun), based on Latin quaerere ‘ask, seek’. According to the dictionary, because all intrepid people going on a quest would of course refer to a dictionary first right….. a quest is both a noun and a verb. noun a long or arduous search for something. That sounds really freaking fun doesn’t it… long and arduous? Ah no thanks. The verb came up with much better results in my opinion search for something. search, seek, look, hunt, pursue, investigate, explore, probe, inspect "his eyes quested to left and right" That all sounds much better. But if you ever hear me saying “My eyes quested to the left and right” I’ve either lost the plot or I’m exploring a medieval festival and getting in character. According to Wikipedia a quest serves as a plot device in mythology and fiction: a difficult journey towards a goal, often symbolic or allegorical. Tales of quests figure prominently in the folklore of every nation and ethnic culture.... The moral of a quest tale often centers on the changed character of the hero. So I guess for the purposes of Natalie Sisson’s Quest for Freedom podcast…. I’m the hero? Which also means I’m the one who has to go through the good, the bad and the ugly. I am a walking, talking human experiment, so that you can sit back in your armchair at home, or on your drive to the city, or while you’re enjoying a relaxing pedicure, and listen to me do all the hard stuff, the grueling, intense, exciting, thrilling, daring and at times, prob mundane things I need to do to achieve on this Quest for Freedom. And I’m ok with that. You know. I’ll take it on the chin. Partly because it’s my idea and all so I have no excuse to complain. And partly cos I kind of like the idea of being the guinea pig. First things first I feel like you guys need to give me an appropriate mythological made up Hero’s name. Do me a favor and humour me. Leave a comment below with your idea for my 'hero' name. I’ll choose the best one, and for season one will henceforth call myself that name and you’ll get your name in the credits. My favourite definition of a quest, because I found it so fitting, was from Vocabulary.com A quest is all about seeking something important, and it often involves a journey. You would travel the world in a quest for gold. You would not travel to the front of the lunchroom in a quest for tater tots. Ha. That’s one heck of a definition. They go on to say: Knights in the Middle Ages were forever taking on quests––most famously to find the Holy Grail. In modern times, you can quest without ever leaving home, thanks to the Internet. A scientist might embark on a quest to find the cure for cancer. A detective might quest for the truth. It’s worthwhile noting here that quest is also a verb that means bark with prolonged noises, of dogs. Perhaps something I can incorporate into the show? Unintentionally I chose this word because it sounds grandiose, but in a good ol down to earth way. And probably because as a kid I loved Greek Mythology and read books like Odysseus, or Ulysses, depending on which side you gun for more. Same hero. Same quest. Different name. Unbeknownst to me however is the Quest is one of 7 Types of Story Plots you can use when writing, or making a movie! According to Liz Bureman over at The Write Practice: “The Quest is a search for a place, item, or person that requires the hero to leave home in order to find it. Sometimes the item is just a MacGuffin to drive the plot along. I’m going to pause to explain here, as I had no idea what a MacGuffin was, but if you’re a fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it’s the thing the hero needs to find on their journey to get to the real important thing. So in this case the golden monkey head Harrison Ford finds in the tomb, not the actual ark. Back to Liz: “Other times the thing driving the quest is specific to the story’s circumstances. Either way, the hero is leaving home to find whatever the heck the story demands, and we get to come along for the ride.” Sounds fair to me. You game to come on this ride with me? You’re not going to leave me all alone out here are you? To show you’re serious if you’re not subscribed to my show on iTunes and you want to follow along on Season One then head to nataliesisson.com/itunes and it will take you straight there! You can do the same by heading to nataliesisson.com/stitcher too. Ok here’s where Liz got me thinking. She went on to describe the characters in a quest and I realized I’m going to need a crew. You see a quest is the plot type most likely to have a group of main characters rather than one protagonist in the main eye of the story. Shiiiiittt and here I was thinking this was ALL about me! Nope apparently not. According to Liz I should have: A close friend who is loyal to our hero, but doesn’t have much else going for him or her; A sidekick who is the polar opposite of the hero mentally, physically, and emotionally; A generic mass of identity-less bros who don’t get names because they’re not alive long enough to matter; or A balanced party of brains, heart, and strength who support the hero, or who count the hero as one of their own. So I guess before the next episode I need to find some of these characters to make this more enticing right? Ok I’ll be back in the next episode with some characters, I can’t guarantee they’ll fit the bill but heck, this is my quest so I get to choose them. It may even be you if you play your cards right! Whereever you’re tuning in or reading this from around the world, I’m sending you a BIG virtual hug of thanks and gratitude for tuning into to the very first Season and Episode of Natalie Sisson’s Quest for Freedom. If you want to make my day leave a comment below to: tell me my Hero name simply say hi, and; add your own definition of what freedom means to you. Go ahead and make sure you subscribe to the show in any podcast player you have, and find me on iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud, Google Play and iHeartRadio. Tune in to the next episode where I let an Oracle tell me what I can expect in 2017…. Yep I consulted an Oracle...or more over the Suburban Psychic approached me to do a session with me. And here's just a snippet of what she had to say: "There’s a part of you that doesn’t want to know stuff, and there’s that little part of you that is giving permission to you to dive in deeper, to explore further, because you got this amazing watch dog in the ego. If a wave is crashing, coming towards you you don’t try to get over the top and scoot your way around it. You got to dive into that sucker and that’s the only way you are going to come out the other side without being thrown on your head and getting sand in places that you don’t want to even talk about " Intrigued? Jesus reminds us that ultimately the issue with earthly treasure is that our heart follows it. Whereever we place our significance that is where our heart is. Making God's Kingdom our treasure is the key to freedom from greed and earthly security.

Having been raised the way (and time) I have been, I was particularly interested in one project that Liferay is involved in. So I took the opportunity and spoke with Nathan Shaw, Principal Consultant at Liferay, about one of Liferay's (literally) most colorful clients, who luckily has has agreed to be a topic in this podcast. With this, you get an impression of how a highly visible and intense project is structured and what's happening behind the scene. And you'll see a site that doesn't really look like your classic portal. Who am I talking about? Sesame Workshop. We talked about * what your kids think of your work when you're always looking at the Sesame Street while pretending to work. * how Sesame frequently releases new content to the site - having fresh content and topics every so often is quite a task for the editorial team. * Big parts of what have been custom for Sesame geting into the product now (in 6.1), namely staging, versioning and branching (improved from the version 6.0 implementation). * Sesame being in the process of upgrading a high-traffic, high profile site from 5.1 to 6.1 * the server infrastructure as well as some of the software background (e.g. Alfresco, GSA) * how is the site built - e.g. how much is stock, how much is custom? How is it all built? * We close with a discussion about how people do find Liferay and learn about the product and the company. You'll find this episode - and make sure that you don't miss any of the future episodes - by subscribing to http://feeds.feedburner.com/RadioLiferay with your favourite podcatcher or itunes. Something else... Radio Liferay now has its own landing page at www.liferay.com/radio. So if you want to recommend this podcast to somebody, this is where you should point them to. Also, I'd like to get more of your feedback: Do you feel this is valuable? Whereever you get the podcast - if there's an opportunity to rate it please do so - e.g. itunes currently does not have enough votes to display an average . Also, please provide feedback to the episodes so that I can balance the next topics and adjust them a bit more to your interest. You can do that on my blog or on twitter. I do have a long list of community contributors that I'll contact in the next weeks to prepare some more recordings and mix them with the Liferay Employees as this whole program is not purely about the company people. Feel free to suggest more interviewees and topics though. Thank you!
For the annual Liferay Retreat, I was in L.A. again and took the opportunity to record several new episodes - this one as a nice fireside chat - the first one with a live audience, though they have not been interacting too much - just been in the same room :) In this session I talked with Greg Amerson, the author of Liferay's development tooling. This is one of the first recordings on new gear, unfortunately levelling was not ideal, so it had to significantly be amplified and denoised - bringing some drawbacks in audio quality, mainly noise despite the denoising, but you'll be able to stand it - promised. Also, I hoped to get this out before the holiday season, unfortunately this didn't work out that well for various reasons - Sorry for that, you'll get your late christmas wishes in this episode. Among other topics we talked about: * Greg got his exposure to Eclipse Tooling from being one of the first people to work on the MyEclipse product * The distincion between Liferay IDE (for Liferay CE) and Liferay Developer Studio (for Liferay EE) * The impressive size of the team to have worked on Liferay Tooling until now and from now on. * Greg's current location: Working from the China Office and how he got from Texas to China and the future plans. * The story how Greg found Liferay (you have to hear this - you might even learn your first words in Mandarin) * The difference the IDE support made in Developer Training - and what ideas he and the team have in addition of the current features (please provide feedback on what you expect from developer tooling) * Some of the ideas: Maven, personal templates, Marketplace, remote deployment and debugging * A vision for the stability of Liferay's plugin environment You'll find this episode - and make sure that you don't miss any of the future episodes - by subscribing to http://feeds.feedburner.com/RadioLiferay with your favourite podcatcher. For the annual Liferay Retreat, I was in L.A. again and took the opportunity to record several new episodes - this one as the first OpenAir recording. This also marks the advent of my new recording gear - expected to raise audio quality quite a bit. In this session I talked with Bradley Wood. Brad is Frontend developer - involved in all things theme, CSS, Velocity. And he's maintaining a nice tumblelog with all kinds of Frontend tipps & tricks for Liferay (which brought him on my radar for the podcast). Among other topics we talked about: * Getting theme custom settings (e.g. color picker) through the API - now standardized and extended due to popular demand * How Sass add power to CSS with variables (integrated in Liferay 6.1) * Compass, a library of Sass functions with vendor specific CSS3 * Brad's style for creating a new theme, starting from photoshop, through CSS and Velocity * Parts of adopting a Look&Feel might involve hooks to change the core Liferay JSPs * Using structures and templates to improve the experience updating the content. * The alternative to routine when it comes to editing velocity... * Brad's tumblelog of Liferay Tipps&Tricks * the marketplace themes for particular industries * Think outside the box: How a theme can help you create an online shop by integrating google checkout * Liferay Foundation and how Brad if involved with its projects (World Impact, which is where Brad's first experience with Liferay came from - here are the Camps and Schools sites) * Upgrading themes from 5.2 to 6.0: How to handle the core css differences and vm * Recommendation: Have a common way to comment and format your code * How to use categories to simulate runtime-configurable theme settings in version 5.2 and 6.0 (as they are now standard in 6.1) Find Brad as @randombrad, me as @olafk or my Alter Ego for just this program as @RadioLiferay on twitter.
