Show notes provided by Joe Peluso There is a wonderful quality of pop culture that we have referenced many times before on this podcast that bears repeating: The ability to bring together people who share a common interest. Forging new friendships over a discussion about magic in ancient Atlantis, or--more importantly--reconnecting with old friends via the marvels of modern technology.    Once again, thanks to the foresight of James Louie's creation of this podcast, Joe Peluso has again been given the honored opportunity to reconnect with an old, and dear friend: an accomplished individual whom Joe went to high school with 50 years ago!     Join James and Joe as they welcome Jim Chadwick group editor at DC Comics for nearly two decades. Jim likes to describe his job as a producer. And "holy accomplishments, Batman!" he succeeded as he produced such memorable titles as Injustice: Gods Among Us, Batman '66, Wonder Woman: The True Amazon, Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Paul Dano's Riddler: Year One to name just a few.     From the halls of Bishop Loughlin High School, where Jim and Joe meet thanks to one friendly neighborhood web-swinger to the Burbank offices of DC Comics, Jim's career has been a long and winding road.     Andi If you ever wondered what an editor of comics does daily then pay attention because you are about to get a master class by an accomplished and award-winning editor!    Oh, some final words for my dear friend Jim: "Deberia haber estudiado mas."

In this episode, Curt and Kevin prepare for the long-awaited Wonder Woman movie with a look at the comic-book origins of everyone's favorite Amazon, including her brief introduction in 1941's All-Star Comics #8 and her debut in the pages of her very own magazine, 1942's Wonder Woman #1, published by DC Comics! After that, it's on to a more contemporary take on the character's formative years, as writer and artist Jill Thompson presents us with a Princess Diana we haven't seen before — brash, bratty and a tad unsympathetic — in the Eisner Award-nominated 2016 graphic novel Wonder Woman: The True Amazon! Can the headstrong young Diana win the favor of indifferent stable girl Alethea? Can the powerful princess save injured American intelligence officer Steve Trevor and defeat a pretty unfortunate caricature of a Japanese spy? And most importantly, can the amazing Amazon pilot her invisible plane to that island paradise of pulp periodicals known as … The Comics Canon? Things Discussed in This Episode: • The lack of a definitive Wonder Woman story • The David E. Kelley Wonder Woman TV pilot • Kevin can't say “William Moulton Marston” • Wonder Woman #1: Not the most woke comic • Curt's controversial take on Themyscira • Sex and the single Amazon • Wonder Woman: Earth One • The 2-Way Stretch All-Nylon Girdle! • Magic Trixie • Brief Lives • Wonder Woman: Blood • The Secret History of Wonder Woman Join us in two weeks as we discuss the first two volumes of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim series! Until then, please rate us on iTunes, send us an email, or hit us up on Twitter or Facebook, and we may read your comments in an upcoming episode. And as always, thanks for listening!

Please excuse the boomy audio of this episode, it was recorded live from the International School of Comics in Chicago. This is a very special dialogue with artists Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, Wonder Woman: The True Amazon, Sandman), Jim Terry (The Crow: Skinning the Wolves, Alice Cooper vs. CHAOS), and Maria Wolf Lopez. Separately, the three of them have gone to the Standing Rock camp in ND where Native American Water Protectors are trying to prevent construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which will pollute important water aquifers all across the midwest. They explain the situation from an eye witness perspective, discuss what supplies are desperately needed at the camps, extol on the spirituality and generosity the people and Maria tells us of her experiences at the first Indigenous Comic Convention. This week we rediscover Big John Little John (a lost classic of 1970s Saturday morning TV, starring Robbie Rist!); during weird trips to the dentist, Kevin gets a flu shot and Kornflake gets a flop wreath (both will protect us through the winter); our new stack of comic books includes Josie and the Pussycats (alas, they're not in outer space... yet), The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror (featuring Homer as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man), and Wonder Woman: The True Amazon (by Jill Thompson, who once gave us cupcakes); Would I Lie to You (Kornflake's favorite British game show) is back, with some familiar guest stars; and we end with a "What's in the Bag" segment, compliments of an old friend of the Flopcast who knows what we like. (That'd be chickens and robots, of course.)

It’s an interview with Jill Thompson! The triple-threat of pop culture; comics, wrestling, and _________?  Her brand new graphic novel “Wonder Woman The True Amazon” is out now and she’ll be signing it at Challengers on Saturday, October 15th. We talk about how she got into comics as a fan, her love of wrestling, Peanuts, Archie comics and all about Wonder Woman. Bonus: Brian Azzarello is also in this episode at various points, talking about his new Image comic Moonshine (which he’ll be signing at Challengers on Saturday, November 19th), decompressed storytelling and also, professional wrestling. This episode is presented in an entirely different order than it was recorded, just to confuse you.

This starts with probably too much talk about a toilet. That leads, naturally of course, into the building of our new Back Issue boxes. This is the last week we’ll bring up our “C” logo t-shirt Kickstarter. Barnes & Noble is having a rough go of book-selling and that leads us to other retailers and their reasons for a perceived economic downturn. Their reasons surprise us. Clowns! DC sales are up. Marvel’s are down. We’re looking forward to: Supergirl: Being Super, Green Valley, Moonshine, Shade the Changing Girl, Wonder Woman: The True Amazon. Brian Azzaerllo is joining us for Local Comic Shop Day!
