Próximo programa: Spider-Man - No Way Home.

Our two comics aficionados tackle the first volume (issues 1-5) of the Vertigo series, “Y: The Last Man” before the TV adaptation premiers of FX and Hulu! Co-created by writer Brian K. Vaughn and penciler Pia Guerra (with inks by Jose Marzan Jr.), this 60-issue series took place in a world where a virus wipes out every creature on Earth with a Y chromosome except for amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his helper monkey, Ampersand. Yorick teams up with the secretive Agent 355 and geneticist Dr. Leslie Mann to uncover the cause of the virus and hopefully save the human race! We specifically only discuss events that take place during the first trade paperback, so there will be no spoilers for anyone who hasn't completed this series, but we think once you read this first volume, you'll want to read the rest! We will be back in two weeks to celebrate September's Batman Day with our episode focusing on “Batman: Gotham by Gaslight” by Brian Augustyn, Mike Mignola and P. Craig Russell. You can follow us @mattandcalereadcomics on Instagram and Facebook or @mattandcaleread on Twitter.
Matt and Cale are joined by Tyler Echols (one of Matt's OTHER best friends) to discuss the Dynamite Comics reboot of “Green Hornet.” Based on the un-produced screenplay by filmmaker Kevin Smith, this graphic novel was adapted by Phil Hester with pencil art by Jonathan Lau and fully painted covers by Alex Ross. Originally created for the radio in 1936, the Green Hornet and Kato were a dynamic duo of masked crime fighters three years before Batman first appeared! The character has appeared in comics, feature films (starring Seth Rogen and Jay Chou) and a short-lived TV series in the 1960s where the characters teamed up with Adam West and Burt Ward's Batman and Robin! This TV series was also the first major American role for Bruce Lee as Kato! There are a few dated elements, but Matt, Cale and Tyler all truly enjoyed this very cinematic graphic novel! All three are big fans of Kevin Smith, but give Smith props for stepping outside of his comfort zone to create something that doesn't feel like anything from his View Askewniverse! We will be back in two weeks for our episode on the first volume (collecting the first five issues) of “Y: The Last Man” by Brian K Vaughn and Pia Guerra. Y: The Last Man is a post-apocalyptic science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo from 2002 through 2008. The series centers on Yorick Brown and his pet Capuchin monkey Ampersand, the only males who survived the apparent global androcide. The series was published in sixty issues by Vertigo and collected in a series of ten paperback volumes (and later a series of five hardcover "Deluxe" volumes). The series' covers were primarily by J. G. Jones and Massimo Carnevale. The series received three Eisner Awards. A HUGE Thank You To All My Patreon, Members, & Subscribe Stars! Vibe Check This week, Gwen is feeling good about moving around more throughout the day and getting settled in her new city! Danielle has been reading a TON lately. She's working her way through the Y: The Last Man graphic novel series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, and she read a magical Ethiopian Jane Eyre retelling (yes, you read that right) called Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood (Sorry, it doesn't come out until November, but you should totally preorder it!). INDULGENCES When D thinks of indulgences in pop culture she thinks of shows in the early Aughts, like Gossip Girl and Revenge. Also, the Harlequin Desire line of category romances, which are described as being about the “American elite.” Back in the Texan's Bed by Naima Simione and Waking Up Married by Reese Ryan (future podcast guest!) are two recent releases she enjoyed. Of course, watching any of the Real Housewives franchises or even the Kardashians—but it's interesting when the people on these shows are “messy” like everyone else, and watching them mess up is very entertaining. Gwen really loved the English translation and Netflix adaptation of 365 Days by Blanka Lipinska! Also, she enjoys aspirational life-style reality TV like Million Dollar Listing, Selling Sunset, and The Big Day. Also, remember how sumptuous and vibrant old technicolor moves were? Like Sunset Boulevard and Imitation of Life. What do our indulgences say about us? You tell us! Gwen: Taking a long shower, putting on lotion, and getting in fresh sheets, Midnight Cookie runs, Rachel's Ginger Beer, Seattle donuts, and Omakase sushi menus Danielle: Ipsy subscription, ordering lunch at least once a week, Starbucks at least once a week (under normal circumstances, it's definitely more than that), ALL the streaming services, and buying books! Recent buys: Why She Wrote by the Bonnets at Dawn hosts, Wild Women and the Blues by Denny S. Bryce, and a Kindle Oasis Recs from Angelina! Looking for great sex scenes in romance? Look to early Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Theresa Medeiros, Laura Kinsale, Sierra Simone Angelina, Danielle, and Melonie Johnson host the Boozy Book Broads chat every 3rd Friday of the Month on Love's Sweet Arrow's YouTube channel. Some of her favorite chats have been with Rosie Danan, Diana Biller, and Naima Simone. Coming soon: a new series by Angelina with Carina Press about 3 Mexican American sisters set in a small-town Kansas bar. Check out http://www.angelinamlopez.com/ for her blog, short stories, and much more! You can follow her on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and sign up for her newsletter. You can read her books: LUSH MONEY, HATE CRUSH, and SERVING SIN (our pals at Love's Sweet Arrow have SIGNED copies of all of Angelina's books right now!!) Goals/Comfort & Joy Gwen has been unpacking like crazy and is so close to getting everything done in her new place that she is going to carry this one over for another couple of weeks! Danielle has been working on her patience and that has been helped by some much-needed distance—plus she is planning on taking a trip to see family soon! This week, Danielle wants to stop drinking coffee and see what happens. Wish her luck! Gwen's new couch, the Lovesac Sactional, is bringing her immense joy! Danielle has simplified her skincare routine and loves the Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant.
We're back, y'all! The podcast episode this week is 90% nonsense but 10% of it is *actually* about the comic. This week we're discussing Y: The last Man by Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra. We discuss POLITICS IN 2020, the last man narrative, Shakespeare things, and a bunch of other stuff that may or may not be relevant to the actual comic. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/comicbae/message
