Superman Unlimited Interview with Dan Slott

Superman Unlimited written by Dan Slott, with interior art by Rafael Albuquerque, colours by Marcelo Maiolo and letters by Dave Sharpe hits shelves tomorrow from DC Comics. This series is set up to be a brand new jumping-on point for all types of readers. If you're a new fan coming off of the excitement for the new film or an old fan wanting to return to the last son of Krypton, this is the book for you! I got the chance to sit down with Dan Slott to chat about the series, Superman, and his world. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or on YouTube! Our first Dan and Dan interview dug deep into the character of Spider-Man where we took time to unpack the character and this interview follows that same web. Dan and I talked about Superman Unlimited and how it came to be after so much time in the industry. Dan opened the interview hard talking about Superman's rogue gallery which we revisit later in the episode. Slott's other work has often featured a heavy emphasis on the third-party cast around superheroes, which has been lacking in mainstream comics. We discussed how he will use Superman's supporting cast in Superman Unlimited to bolster the character and the world around him. Dan talks about which characters he is going to make you fall in love with by the time his run is over. I was lucky enough to read Superman Unlimited before our chat, which I allude to in the interview. I will say there is a scene in issue one that recontextualizes something about Superman and the burden he carries with him that changes a pivotal point in the character's history. It's an extremely powerful moment that Slott has crafted that sets the path forward so much more exciting for longtime fans of the character. This is a series filled with heart, which makes a very strong Superman book for me. You will want to pick Superman Unlimited up as soon as you can!

Ryan Gosling Cast in Star Wars, Brave New World Runtime, Daredevil: Born Again Trailer, and A.I. in Hollywood

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last Wednesday morning, Marvel Television treated fans to the long awaited first official teaser trailer for Daredevil: Born Again. The trailer was met with universal praise for its dark tone and brutal depictions of violence, elements that it shares with the beloved Netflix series. The nine-episode first season premieres March 4 on Disney Plus. In some Captain America news, it was confirmed that Brave New World will have a total runtime of one hour and 58 minutes, which ties it with Ant-Man & The Wasp as the seventh shortest MCU flick to date. It will also be the first Captain America film under two hours long. It's brand new news today, Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Shawn Levy's future Star Wars film. Levy's film has been in development with Lucasfilm since 2022, and getting Gosling seems like it could be a major step in getting the film truly off the ground and into the galaxy far, far away. Last we knew, the film was not to be set within the Skywalker saga The use of AI has been a frequent hot topic for Hollywood in recent years, reaching a seeming fever pitch during the 2023 WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes as a major point of negotiation. While the dust seemed to have settled a bit with the resolution of those strikes, new controversies plaguing high profile films and filmmakers have brought the discussion back to the forefront. First, Taxi Driver writer and First Reformed director, Paul Schrader, opined, in a since much lambasted Facebook post, the benefits of using a platform like ChatGPT for film ideas, in contrast to waiting the months it can take writers to ideate. Elsewhere, awards season favorite and Oscar hopeful, The Brutalist, has come under fire after an editor revealed generative A.I. was used to enhance the authenticity of the lead performers Hungarian accents. Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz have signed on to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, portraying the parents of Kara Zor-El. Production on the DC Studios film commenced last week. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Until Dawn,” the live-action adaptation of the popular 2015 PlayStation horror game. The film is currently set to be released on April 25th. After nearly 15 years of shaping Spider-Man's adventures at Marvel Comics, Eisner Award winner Dan Slott is making the move to DC. The acclaimed writer will make his DC debut on Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series featuring art by American Vampire co-creator Rafael Albuquerque. Westworld star Thandiwe Newton and Silo's Steve Zahn have joined Paul Rudd and Jack Black in Columbia's comedy reboot of Anaconda. Nintendo has revealed its Switch 2 console with first look images and a teaser trailer, confirming a 2025 release. Uma Thurman has joined the cast of Dexter series Dexter: Resurrection and will star alongside Michael C. Hall. Filmmaker David Lynch, who created celebrated counterculture classics like Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and co-created Twin Peaks, has died at 78. A24 and Picturestart are teaming with director Charlie Polinger for a revisionist and darkly comedic take on The Masque of The Red Death, based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. Sydney Sweeney is currently in negotiations to star. After extensive negotiations, IMAX has secured a deal to exclusively screen Greta Gerwig's Netflix adaptation of "Narnia" in theaters worldwide for two weeks, beginning Thanksgiving 2026, before its streaming debut that Christmas. Joel McHale has joined the cast of Scream 7 and will play Mark Evans, the husband to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. A24 has released the first trailer for upcoming horror film Opus, which hits theaters on March 14th. The film stars Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis, and Amber Midthunder.

Some birthdays are bigger than others. To properly celebrate the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hitting their forties this year, IDW Publishing is determined to make a fuss regarding our favorite comic book siblings, including, but not limited to, inviting heavyweight scribe Jason Aaron onto their flagship title. The main monthly comic will relaunch with a new number one in July but remain faithful to IDW's continuity, all one hundred and fifty issues of it. This week on Comic Book Couples Counseling, Jason Aaron reveals the title of his run's first storyline, how it's layered with meaning, especially for fans of the original Mirage Studios stories, and why it was necessary to collaborate with such wickedly cool stylists like Joëlle Jones, Rafael Albuquerque, Cliff Chiang, and Chris Burnham. We also discuss why he's starting his saga with four solo adventures, with each of the first four issues focusing on a specific brother, and how June's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 one-shot will set the stage and tone for what's to come. Once upon a time, a young Jason Aaron purchased Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 and had his little mind melted. He wants to bring the same punk rock energy to his series that the original creators, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, brought to every one of their comics. We return to this headspace with Jason Aaron, revisit a few of our favorite Ninja Turtle comics, and speculate on what we may see on the page in the very near future. We've said it before, and we'll say it again: there is no better time to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. All rapidly on their way, we have a new monthly series written by Jason Aaron, another series titled TMNT: Mutant Nation, Juni Ba and Fero Pe's Nightwatcher spin-off, a Saturday Morning Adventures TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo crossover one-shot, and the artist showcase anthology, TMNT: Black, White, and Green. So, yeah, we had to take a moment and break all that down too. OH! And remember, The Last Ronin II: Re-Evolution hits shops on March 6th! Keep your eyes glued to the IDW Publishing page as more and more Ninja Turtles 40th Anniversary celebrations are revealed, and make sure to follow Jason Aaron on Twitter, Instagram, and his website. As always, Omnibus, the Digital Comic Store and Reader, sponsors our Referrals segment. This week, we selected two comic book titles on the site that satisfy this episode's themes.

Scott Snyder reunites with artist Rafael Albuquerque and is joined by artist Mateus Santolouco to share art duties for this latest volume. It's Las Vegas circa 1935, and Skinner Sweet and our gal Pearl are about to learn the hard way that the bloodsuckers in Hollywood were nothing compared to what awaits them in Sin Ci.0y. In just a few short years, young police Chief Cash McCogan has watched his native city of Las Vegas go from cow-town to wild, glittering boomtown. And when the bodies of prominent businessmen start showing up drained of blood, Chief McCogan finds himself facing a threat much darker and deadlier than anything he could have imagined . . . and the only sure bet in town is that Skinner and Pearl are right in the thick of it. When it comes to your Detective Comics run so far, an interviewer with less skill than I might say Gotham is a character, one that feels unique in that it's noir, but also ornate, how important was it for your approach to get Gotham right?Visually Detective Comics is dark, dank, grungy, what makes Rafael Albuquerque and Ivan Reis the perfect fit for the vision of the book?A lot of the dialogue and captioning has a poetic nature to it, do you write poetry in your free time?Ram, I'm curious about the song in the club in Detective #1063. Is that a real tune, or something written just for Harvey?Themes of sanity are present in Detective Comics, like Two-Face facing his own duality, why do you think these themes resonate with audiences?Two-Face consistently tells Harvey that he's the only one looking out for him, that he cares about him. Is there some truth there, or is this the most insular abusive relationship ever? There are so many tools at your disposal when crafting a comic, from letters, to formatting of a page, which we see you do a lot of in Detective Comics #1068. As someone with a lot of impressive comics under your belt, do you ever find yourself trying to disassemble how a comic story is told and then reassemble it?For those that read only Carnage or only read Detective Comics, is there a connective tissue of themes or your approach that could be said to swing their attention to the book they aren't reading? You're always working on so many titles at once--50 issues written in 2022--can you give us any hints or details on what your 2023 will look like?

How long has the project been in the works?Given the political underbelly of New America, do you hope the series could enact change in the real world? There's a lot of passion on the page, particularly a scene with a burning of something, when writing the first draft for this did you have to scale back your own passion, or lean into it?It's hard to shock me, but I honestly was taken aback by some of the violence. You see holes in people. What went into the choice to make the violence graphic?Set in the future, how futuristic does New America get?New America ends up on news channels come its release August 23, what's your response? Do you go on the 24 hour news talk shows?Curt you're a busy guy, do you have other projects you'd like to talk about today?
